The Geberit AquaClean range is comfortable and stylish too. And with a model to suit every style of home, it would make a perfect addition to your new spa-like bathroom.

Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?

Well known and respected local bathroom and wetroom experts, Wirral Wetrooms have announced a massive quarter of a million pound investment and expansion project. Pulling on their industry leading design skills and extensive experience, the team have planned a show-stopping new look that is set to revolutionise their Irby showroom.

The first phase of the expansion to their upstairs showroom has begun with renovations to incorporate fully functional bathrooms settings including 10 operational showers and 12 working basins and taps all with the latest digital technology. Added to this under floor heating and a working sauna so clients can really ‘soak up’ the full Wirral Wetrooms offering. Owner Dave Sergison commented, ‘Customers will literally be able to

get a live demo of all the must-have bathroom accessories. You can turn showers on, see how they perform on different settings and see for yourself how the valves and knobs work. There will be full audio visual equipment along with high-tech LED lighting throughout.’

And you can even spend-a penny by sampling the fabulous new Geberit Aquaclean! Finally, complete the picture by choosing from a selection of their stunning tiles and you really be able to create a ‘tried and tested’ space to be proud of. Heart of Irby Village Dave and the team have always supported the local community in Irby and the surrounding areas, and played a part in the life and soul of the village and love being there,

A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets? A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply.

Six ways to boost Ne High bus fairs and railway station vandalism were discussed at a recent meeting of the local councils and the MP. Members of Neston Town Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council were joined by MP Justin Madders to find solutions to some of Neston’s travel issues. A number of bus services have been cancelled in recent year and the rail service has long been a bone of contention. There was also talk about Neston’s absence from major road construction projects and traffic hotspots in the town centre. The meeting also heard from John Allcock, Chair of the Wrexham to Bidston Rail Users’ Association, that there will be improvements on the local line following the change of franchise, but that campaigning must continue to prevent slippage in proposals for more services, better connections at Shotton and Bidston, and improved trains and stations. Neston Town Council’s draft Transport Charter lists six priorities which will be campaigned for A HALF-HOURLY RAIL SERVICE WITH DIRECT TRAINS TO LIVERPOOL Although there are signs that there will be a half-hourly service on the Borderlands line under the new franchise it remains important to takes this through to Liverpool without the need to change at Bidston – and with an improved junction at Shotton. THE A540 INCLUDED IN THE MAJOR ROAD NETWORK The A540 was omitted from the draft Local Economic Partnership Transport Strategy for Cheshire and Warrington. It is an urgent matter to correct this and avoid further isolation of the town, and the dangers arising from the A540 junctions in Neston. A BUS SERVICE BETWEEN NESTON AND CHESTER 7 DAYS A WEEK INCLUDING EVENINGS This is a major weakness in public transport arrangements for Neston. This objective could also be achieved by a regular seven day and evening bus service to Hooton.

Neston rail and road AFFORDABLE FARES FOR NESTON Fares are generally higher on buses and trains from Neston. Fares for young people up to 18 are a major issue - especially as the CWaC discount card cannot be used on all buses serving Neston. A REVIEW OF TRAFFIC FLOWS IN NESTON TOWN CENTRE There have been two deaths on roads close to Neston town centre in recent years and concerns remain about the safety of arrangements, especially on Brook Street (right) and Raby Road. A FULL TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT REVIEW The above issues should not be considered piecemeal, but through a proper review of transport and traffic in Neston, such as that funded for Northwich. Christine Warner, Neston town councillor and chairwoman of the meeting said: “Neston Town Council appreciates the contribution of all those who attended this important meeting. There was broad agreement that transport and traffic are major issues for the town and that the Transport Charter is a good basis for discussion with the public.”

WORRIES OVER NESTON BUS SERVICE Neston Town Council has expressed concern over the future of bus services following the withdrawal and subsequent reinstatement of a key route. The number 22 bus was suddenly withdrawn on 5th October when the operator went under but was then taken over by Stagecoach three days later. The buses will continue to run on the same timetable, and the council is hopeful that Stagecoach could potentially reduce fares and improve the service as they are a major provider and offer ticket concessions. Phil Lloyd, Chair of the Transport Working Group, said, “This is a worrying development in local bus services and we welcome the timely action to restore the service. We look forward to discussing the future of this and other routes with Cheshire West and Chester Council with a view to establishing a stable and reliable bus services in due course”.

New operator for Neston rail line A new rail operator is taking over the line that serves Neston Railway Station. Having held the franchise for rail travel in Wales and the Welsh Borders since 2003, Arriva Trains Wales has handed over control to the French-Spanish firm KeolisAmey, which will trade under the banner of Transport for Wales Rail Services (TfW). While changes will not be immediate, passengers will see the red and white colours of the new company and can look forward to some welcome changes in the next few years according to the chairman of the town’s transport working group Dr Phil Lloyd. The main improvement is delivering the North East Wales Metro by increasing frequency on the Wrexham-Bidston line to two trains per hour from December 2021, with fully refurbished metro trains. Dr Lloyd highlighted in a briefing note to Neston Town’s councillors that other improvements will eventually include: Free end-to-end internet access available on 85% of journeys by 2024. Free travel for under 5s extended to under 11s. Half-price fares extended to 16 – 18 year-olds. Under 16s go free off peak. Seven new Community Rail Partnerships, and more than £1.25m per year invested in community activity. Disused station spaces will be transformed to meet local needs. Smart ticketing rolled out across Wales and the Borders so that customers will be able to use mobile tickets to ensure they always pay the lowest fare. More than 700 new customer information screens installed across the network and in other locations including colleges, hospitals and workplaces. These changes, when implemented, will go some way towards attaining the objectives of Neston’s Transport and Traffic Charter which is explored further in this month’s magazine. Cllr Dominic Roberts, chairman of the Neston Town Council places committee, said: “The proposed improvements to the rail services in the town are most welcome – and a just reward for the campaign instigated by the Town Council in September 2014, and for those who supported it, for a half-hourly rail service. It shows the value of being determined and ambitious in our aspirations. We look forward to working closely with TfW on its comprehensive plans for improved rail services in our town.”

Memory walk At Campion Solicitors, we decided to do the sponsored memory walk for Alzheimer’s in our own way. So we each undertook our own unique walk. Jackie, Ann and Sophie decided to turn their dog walk into a sponsored walk and we have the lovely pictures to prove how gorgeous the dogs (and of course the owners!) are. Pam, Rachel, Jayne and Janine did their own walks and Janine’s little boy Daniel wanted to wear the same colour tee shirt as his mummy! Jayne had her picture taken by her pergola in the garden which is called Ben Nevis in memory of her mum who died last year after suffering with dementia for several years. Whilst mum was alive her grandchildren Carlene and Vicky did the Ben Nevis midnight sponsored climb for Dementia, but in memory of their lovely Nana Dot. The pergola was in the process of being built at the time so Jayne thought it fitting to give it the name of Ben Nevis! We at Campion Solicitors are always working towards becoming Dementia Friendly and have all attended the Dementia friends Information Session. This helped our team to learn a little bit more about what it is like to live with dementia and how to turn that understanding into action. We are experts in legal matters which can help people living with dementia and their families. If you would like advice on this or any other legal matters please call us on 015 342 9021.

Awards for enterprising students Neston High School is preparing its students for life in the rough, tough world of business. Pupils on the business studies course have been getting out of the classroom and using their skills in the real world. They’ve held a non-uniform day, organised a Christmas party for senior citizens and obtained sponsorship from the likes of Thornton Hall Hotel. Another group of students took part in a Dragons Den style competition organised by Manchester Airport. Over a period of 2 months they set up and ran their own small business, after securing a £100 investment from the ‘dragons’. Following some intensive market research, the product was made from inserting a string of lights in to recycled bottles and it also included some appropriate branding. The product proved very popular and the students took advantage of selling opportunities at the airport and at the school Christmas Fair. A small group of sixth form students took part in a competition organised by togethermoney.com where they were required to produce a business plan for a development project. The school recently introduced a new enterprise category to the annual awards evening held every September. New head teacher unveiled at Neston High School Keith Simpson has been announced as the next head teacher of Neston High School. He will start his position in January when the current head teacher Steve Dool retires. Mr Simpson is currently headteacher at Middlewich High School and has over 28 years’ experience in good and outstanding schools from across Cheshire Mr Simpson said: “I am humbled and excited to be the next Headteacher of Neston High School. Already I understand and feel the family and team philosophy that reverberates around the school and community is one that I will continue to endorse and support. The excellent holistic approach to the education of young people fits with my own mantra in that every child has strengths, and it is our role as educationalists to allow them to flourish and be the best that they can be. I will build upon

the present structures and ethos that Mr Dool and board members have embedded into the new build and look forward to presenting a future vision that meets the needs of our students, families and community partners.” Chairman of governors Dr Kevin Mothersdale added: “To achieve success it is vital that there is an effective partnership between the School, families and the local community – we believe that this partnership is one of our many strengths. Trustees believe that Keith’s experiences and skills will enable us to drive forward our journey of continuous improvement and deliver the vision of developing confident learners with the skills to take ownership of their learning, who are proud of their achievements and are well prepared for life in modern Britain.”

GARDENING BY JANET WEEDS

Colours before winter N

ovember is an in between month between autumn and winter but often has late colour from leaves and berries.

I love Acers and there are many that will suit small gardens. Their requirement is for a sheltered site, not in an exposed windswept location. They also need a moisture retentive and free draining soil so heavy clay will never suit them. They often grow under the canopy of taller trees and like semi shade or sun. Acer palmatum Bloodgood or Fireglow have purple leaves that turn red in autumn. Another variety with pale green leaves is Katsura and they turn orange and red in autumn. Eventually these trees can reach 4m tall but it takes time! You can grow them in pots too and brighten up darker spaces but remember to repot every few years. Colour from tree leaves comes from Malus or Crab Apples, oak trees and cherry trees. Another good plant for autumn, that is not often seen is Chinese Lanterns or Physalis alketengi franchetii. This is a perennial that gradually spreads and has boring green leaves until autumn when the orange lantern pods shine out. This plant likes any moist and well drained soil in semi shade or sunny spot and will gradually increase. Fun for Halloween decorations. Berries can be found on the easy to grow Pyracantha which have long needle like spines but have white flowers then the red, yellow or orange berries in autumn and winter. They will grow on any soil and in any situation including exposed positions. Cotoneasters are also great especially for bees as many flower in early spring but they save the best show for autumn and winter with red berries. Cotoneaster dammeri is a prostrate shrub (to 12ins high) that will drape over walls. Or for a larger shrub that can be pruned to size, try Cotoneaster lacteus. Both will grow in sun or light shade and just need well drained soil to do well. Many cotoneasters are evergreen too. Work to do in the garden is mainly tidying up flowering shrubs by pruning to shape once the leaves have fallen off so you can see the framework. Cut out long or crossing stems to negate the plant. Finish moving and splitting perennials before the frosts start. Also complete planting tulips and other spring flowering bulbs.
