Detectives hunt for stolen vinyl Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a burglary in Neston. Jewellery and a range of music memorabilia of great sentimental value to the homeowners was stolen from inside the house on Chester High Road and a car had been taken from a garage. The music memorabilia included framed vinyl albums of Led Zeppelin One, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, The Who’s Quadrophenia and The Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers. Signed photographs of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, rare photographs of their fellow Beatle John Lennon and a signed picture of Elton John were also stolen. Cheshire Police are urging anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area around that time or has been offered any of the music memorabilia to get in touch. They are also keen to hear from anyone who saw, or has dashcam footage of, a grey Mini Clubman car fleeing the area around 22nd May. The vehicle was found abandoned in Kensington, Liverpool, a few days later. Detective Constable Kevin Cooper said: “Being the victim of a burglary is a traumatic experience and it is even more upsetting when items of great sentimental value are stolen.” Call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 71669.

DEATH OF LYNETTE BALDUCCI

Sad news reached us recently of the death of Lynette Balducci, who ran the Balducci jewellery shop on the High Street. Lynette ran the family business for many years and was a popular figure among the local business community. She died on 13th June and a packed funeral service was held at St Mary and St Helenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Parish Church, Neston, on Wednesday 11th July. Her family say that Lynette passed away peacefully. Her daughter Annette will ensure that the business continues to be in safe hands. Balducci jewellers began as a trade repairs business back in 1974 and moved to its current premises at the Cross in 1977. Mrs Balducci will be greatly missed by her family, friends and many customers in Neston and far beyond.

Waving goodbye to debut year Willaston Phil Supportersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Group is celebrating its first season attending, and enjoying, monthly concerts at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. The group are pictured flag waving prior to their departure for their last concert of the season - The Last Night of the Pops/Proms. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the charismatic Vasily Petrenko, performed a varied classical programme as well some of the traditional Last Night of the Proms music. Also, included in the programme were contributions by the Philharmonic Choir. Much enjoyment and fun was had by all and the Group excelled themselves with their flag waving. The Group travels by coach to and from Willaston, thus avoiding the need to drive to central Liverpool and find parking spaces. Next season starts in September. School celebrates NHS Big 7tea! Woodfall Primary and Nursery School enjoyed celebrating the 70th birthday of the NHS during July. The children were visited during the week by a number of parents who work for the NHS, learning about being radiographers, mammographers, nurses and psychologists. The celebrations culminated with the children dressing up as NHS workers and a Big 7tea party which was supported by parents and friends of the school. Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) visited to talk to the nursery and year 2 children about their jobs and show them around the ambulance. Emma Boylan and Angie Lopez, from the fundraising team at the Countess of Chester Hospital, visited Woodfall. All monies made on the day were donated to The Countess Charity.

After the dry spell.....

fter the dry period in early summer that caused some plant to die, many late summer perennials will be flowering less.

Plants that enjoy the dry weather in late summer include Echinops ritro or Globe Thistle. They will grow to 1.5m tall and have soft thistle shaped leaves with tall stems bearing golf ball sized blue flowers. The need support but do well at the back of borders in full sun and well drained soils. Another blue plant is the Eryngiums or Sea Holly. These are shorter plants, to 75cm tall with teazle like blue spiky flowers. They also love full sun and well drained soils. Veronicas are perennials with small and tall varieties in pink, white and blue which are good for sunny positions but need more moisture. Another good plant for sun is Verbena bonariensis which has tall stiff stems topped with heads of small purple flowers. Again, it takes up little space in the ground and lasts for weeks. Not hardy in severe winters but it will self seed. Those of you that have permanently damp soil, late summer is great for flowers. In August the purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria has tall spikes of magenta pink flowers. A quirky plant for those with damp soil and space for it to wander,try Lysimachia clethroides (up to 60cm) with its white foxtail flowers. They remind me of meerkats on the lookout! If you have an established hellebore plant in the garden, look under the large leaves and you may find small seedlings already growing. Pot them up or move them out into more space so they can grow on. Keep beans, courgettes, pumpkins and squashes well watered in summer. Once the squashes and pumpkins have grown to size the foliage should die off gradually. Keep them outside to ripen the skin and keep any foliage off the ripening pumpkins. If you would like to visit gardens look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Laskey Farm, Thelwell is open on 11th and 12th August with many interesting features including a series of pools and water features with superb poolside planting, herbaceous borders and a maze of grasses and prairie style planting. Abbeywood near Delamere is open on 12th August. This garden has a stunning exotic garden full of colour, formal gardens leading out into huge borders filled with sweeping planting of grasses and perennials.

Sunday 5th August Friends of West Vale Park Family Fun Day takes place from 1-4pm. Come along and enjoy the fun and games on West Vale Park, Neston. This yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s activities include the popular climbing wall and caving experience plus a returning favourite, the circus skills workshop. Other regular activities will include small animal corner, craft workshop, coconut shy, slide bowling and many more fun things to try out. All the activities are free and there is no admission fee. There will be a cake stall and hot drinks to purchase. Monday 13th to Friday 17th August Little Actors Theatre will be offering a summer performing arts course for 8-16-year-olds with the The Greatest Showman.
