December Ride the Rails with St. Nick (775)687-6953 Every year, Santa briefly trades in his reindeer for historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad rolling stock. A ride with Santa aboard historic V&T Railroad equipment will help get the holiday off on the right track when the Nevada State Railroad Museum hosts its Annual Santa Train in December. Silver & Snowflake Festival of Lights (775)687-7410 The traditional lighting of the Christmas trees, both state and city, has been ongoing here in the capital city for well over 22 years. Starting at the capitol, the state trees are lit, and Santa and Mrs. Claus give out candy canes. A warm feeling envelopes as families gather to hear children sing and watch the tree and all of Carson Street spring to light. The young and young at heart all squeal with delight as Santa arrives in a classic antique fire engine, a 1927 Seagrave, compliments of Warren Engine Co. Activities include Santa and Mrs. Claus, face painting, clowns, a bounce house manned by the U.S. Navy, Cactus Jack’s Howdy and lifesized willow reindeer.
