+ FAMILY PLAN Basque pelota is one of our greatest cultural assets. This Holy Week you can enjoy a unique experience by finding out about its history and playing this game in the company of some of the great pelota players:

Enjoy the performance and dramatised tour through Bilbao and its estuary; a trip which journeys from the present to the past to discover the history of the town and its inhabitants. Throughout the journey, on foot and by boat, “Los Anfitrones” will reveal the most characteristic aspects of the city and its inhabitants, rediscovering the traces of the past left to us by those who made Bilbao possible.

EL FRONTAINER (PLAZA BIZKAIA) In the Plaza Bizkaia, there is an attractive mobile pelota court to publicise and promote the game of Basque pelota. Here you will find:

Participatory workshops: Two monitors specialised in Basque pelota will teach anyone who comes to the Frontainer how to play. Pelota Exhibition: An exhibition of the tools and history of Basque pelota. Place: Plaza Bizkaia Open all day: from 11:00 to 19:30. WORKSHOPS FOR EXPERIENCING PELOTA (FRONTÓN DE LA ESPERANZA) These workshops will demonstrate the different types of pelota and the origin and source of each type will be explained. There will be small exhibitions and the public will be able to participate accompanied by expert pelota players.

This fair, which is in its second year, offers the opportunity to discover and admire products made using traditional Basque skills and techniques. The event will be open throughout Holy Week.

“Un siglo de Cromos” (A century of football cards) This memorable exhibition reviews football cards in our country since 1911.

Located in the dock area of the old Euskalduna shipyards in Abandoibarra, the Maritime Museum offers the following programme:

“Lezama”. The Lezama facilities, the training ground of the first team and football school for reserve of young players, are the heart of Athletic.

“BOGA. El desafío con el mar” (Rowing: the duel with the sea) Through interactive videos, this exhibition gives us a tour through the world of rowing from the origins of fishing boat races in their seafaring occupations up to the present day.

The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art has prepared a photographic exhibition on religious architecture in Biscay over the last sixty years and this will be on show in the atrium of the Ensanche Building during Holy Week.

This museum contains lustrous paintings and important bronze sculptures inspired by the paintings of the maestro Benedicto.
