Punjabi Sikh Wedding!

M

arriage in Sikhism religion is a kind of sacred bond in attaining a spiritual and worldly joy. The Sikh Gurus define marriage as emergence of one spirit in two bodies. The fourth Guru, Guru Ramdas originally composed the concept of ‘Lavan’, wedding song, to celebrate a kind of holy union between human soul and God (Parmatma). The bride and bridegroom then share their life, happiness and sorrow; from two individuals they become ‘Ek Jot Doe Murti’ meaning one spirit in two bodies. In the Punjabi marriage, as soon as bride, groom and the two families assembled at one place, Milnee is performed. It is a kind of meeting of parents and close relatives of Groom and Bride. The marriage ceremony takes place in Gurduwara Sahib or at the bride’s home or any other suitable place where there is a presence of Guru Granth Sahib. A priest or any Sikh (man or woman) may conduct the ceremony, and usually a respected and wise person is chosen. Appropriate hymns for the occasion are sung while, family, friends, and guests arrived. The marriage ceremony starts with the Groom, first seated before Guru Granth Sahib and brides take her place on the left. The couple and their parents are asked to stand while the rest of congregation remains

seated. A prayer is then conducted invoking god’s blessings for the proposed marriage and asking his grace for the union of the couple. This connotes the consent of the bride and the groom and their parents. The parties then resume their seats and a short hymn is sung. Upon translation, the hymn would read as follows: Call upon God for task thou wouldst have accomplished, He will bring the tasks to rights, so witnessed the Guru. In the company of the holy thou shalt rejoice and taste only nectar, Thou art the demolisher of fear; thou art compassionate, 0’ Lord, Nanak singeth the praises of the incomputable Lord. The couple is then asked to honor their vows by bowing together before Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Then the bride’s father places one end of saffroncolored scarf in the groom’s hand, passing it over the shoulder and placing the other end in the bride’s hand. Thus joined, the two will take the vows. This is followed by a short hymn.

CAST: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Amin, Yogendra Tiku, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Waluscha de Sousa, Sayani Gupta DIRECTION: Maneesh Sharma GENRE: Thriller DURATION: 2 hours 22 minutes Fan is completely out of SRK’s comfort zone. There is hardly any romance, not a single song, little to laugh about. Instead there is plenty of action, chases (on the walls of Mumbai buildings, Dubrovnik roofs and finally Delhi roads) and unbridled emotions of the very dark and serious kind – in a film that’s all about a fan’s pursuit of the star and then the star trying to hunt down the fan. And SRK takes a huge stride forward to make the twin roles of Gaurav Chanana and Aryan Khanna his very own in a way that you can’t imagine anyone else quite fitting the bill.

news magazine

Review of Fan

The entire first half goes in setting up Gaurav, at times quite heavily and tediously so. But you still enjoy it all for what the film does with SRK’s own 25-year-long stardom—how it creates a new entity of this Fan from bits and pieces of his own earlier avatars. No wonder then, the wistful channeling of SRK’s journey as the star, complete with old clips, make perfect sense here. It doesn’t irritate like the pointless homages and referencing some other recent YRF films have been prone to doing. And that, the second half of Fan, keeps people on the edge. Maneesh Sharma’s story sheds its languidness of the first half and makes people sit straight and be scared post intermission. No one knows what the psychotic, obsessed, crazy Gaurav will do to get Aryan’s attention.

www.saentertainment.ca /saentertainmentnewsmagazine

Between Gaurav and Aryan, Shah Rukh Khan excels in his stalker fan doppelganger, hands down. Gaurav is reminiscent of Shah Rukh’s Darr and Anjaam days. Khan pushing himself this way after his last few run-ofthe-mill films is a welcome change. The superstar, as the slightly blurry version of himself, delivers a superb performance. The supporting cast doesn’t have much to do in this SRK vs. SRK play. But Deepika Amin, Yogendra Tikoo, Waluscha de Sousa, Sayani Gupta and Shriya Pilgaonkar are all able wheels to carry Fan forward. Acting-wise, everyone else fades in front of SRK’s Gaurav. It is in the editing that Fan loses some crucial points. Namrata Rao could have snipped at least 20 minutes from the film and made it crisper and more racy.

@ansalmedia

The inertia of many of the sequences in the first half is unbearable. In a film where there are no songs, this is a major drawback. The cinematography is commendable in Fan. Manu Anand’s camera captures the bylines’ of Delhi with as much expertise as the orange rooftops in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The action’s glorious but stretches while the naivete of Gaurav’s parents (Deepika and Yogendra), unaware of their only child’s feelings, seems slightly unbelievable. Yet, ending with a Baazigar-esque twist, Fan makes you feel Darr all over again.

Changing fashion trends in India

y the end of the 20th century came all hype came to an end and has created a more practical and pragmatic environment and has given a more stable picture of the fashion business. In the 50s, 60s and 70s, the Indian fashion scenario was very colorless. It was exciting, stylish and very graceful. There were no designers, models, star or fashion design labels available with the country for show offs. The value of a garment was judged by its style and fabric and not by who made it. It was regarded as ever so chic and fashionable to approach any unfamiliar tailor, who could make a garment for a few rupees, providing the perfect fit, finish and style. The high society lady, who wore it, was proud for getting a good bargain and for giving her name to the end result. In 60s, tight ‘kurtas’, ‘churidars’

and high coiffures were a trend among ladies. It was an era full of naughtiness and celebration in arts and music and cinema, manifested by liberation from restriction and acceptance of new types of materials such as plastic film and coated polyester fabric. The 70s witnessed an increase in the export of traditional materials outside the country as well as within. Hence, international fashion arrived in India much before the MTV culture with the bold colors, flower prints and bell-bottoms. It was in the early 80s when the first fashion store ‘Ravissant’ opened in Mumbai. The ‘80s was the era of self consciousness and American designers like Calvin Klein became popular. In India too, silhouettes became more masculine and the ‘salwar kameez’ was designed with shoulder pads.

With the evolution of designer stores in Mumbai, the elegant fashion design culture was a trend among Indians along with their heavy price tags. No doubt that a garment with a heavy price tag was at the bottom stage of fashion. But clients immediately transformed into the high fashion fold where they were convinced that that the word ‘elegant fashion design culture’ means, it had to have a higher price tag. Garments were sold at unbelievable prices only because the designers had decided to get themselves noticed by making showy outfits and getting associated with the right shows, celebrities and events. Later, fashion shows shifted to competitive events each attempting to out-do the other in theme, guest list and media coverage. For any newcomer, the fashion business was the number one professional art that time.

In the 90’s, the last decade of the millennium, a move towards the drastic pairing down returned with ethnic wears (Today, ethnic wear market in India is accounted to Rs. 9000 crore). This led to the decline and the recession, the push to sell at any cost and keep staying in the limelight. With heavy cut throat competition and sound awareness of the client, the inevitable occurred. The price tags, which had once reached at a peak, began their downside journey. The fun and party time in the Indian fashion scenario had not ended with this, but continued. It was a point, where it reached at a certain steady level and from there, in the beginning of the 21st century, with new designers and models and some sensible designing; the fashion hype accelerated its speed. Indian fashion industry spreads its wings globally.

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

T

his is a thin style pizza crust works best when you make use of the light hand for toppings. The crust of these pizzas does not rise. It is essential for texture success that you roll out the dough to the correct size—try using a 9-inch round cake pan for reference. Ingredients needed for making Pizza 4 2 medium head cauliflower, coarsely chopped (3 cups) 41 Tbs. olive oil 4¼ tsp. sea salt 4⅛ tsp. ground black pepper 4¼ cup ground flaxseed meal 4¼ cup brown rice flour 4¼ cup arrowroot flour 42 Tbs. nutritional yeast

4¾ tsp. garlic powder 42 Tbs. tahini paste Procedure for makingPizza 4 Preheat the oven to 400°F making use of the line baking sheet with parchment paper. 4 Push chopped cauliflower in food processor and cut into very small and rice –sized bits. 4 After the cutting the vegetables then transfer itto large bowl, and toss with olive oil, sea salt, and pepper. Spread cauliflower on prepared baking sheet, and roast for 20 minutes. 4 Tossing cauliflower half way through cooking time and smoothing back out on baking sheet.

4 Combine the brown rice flour, flaxseed meal, nutritional yeast and garlic powder in a large bowl. Add cooked cauliflower, and toss to combine. Whisk together tahini and 2 Tbs. water in small bowl. Add tahini mixture to cauliflower, and then mix it well by hand to fully incorporate. Shape into compact ball. 4 Turn the baking sheet face-down. Lay the parchment paper atop on the back side and lightly coat with the cooking spray. After that, place a dough ball in the centre of the sheet and second piece of parchment on the top. 4 Press to slightly flatten, and use a rolling pin to smooth out into a

9-inch circle. Peel away top layer of parchment (reserve for next step), and use your fingers to smooth and round dough edges. Bake 18 to 20 minutes, or until edges are slightly browned and crispy. 4 Remove pizza crust from oven, and cover it w with reserved parchment. 4 Place a second baking sheet on top, right-side up. Sandwich the crust between baking sheets, flip everything over, and remove hot bakingsheet and top parchment. Top crust with desired toppings, and bake 5 minutes more, or until toppings are hot and bubbly. 4 Cut into 8 slices. After that Cauliflower crust Pizza is ready to eat!

UCMAS Math Wizards Compete to Solve Arithmetic Problems Faster than a Calculator

V

ancouver, BC – UCMAS Mental Math, provider of the leading North American educational program in Abacus and Mental Math for children, held its 3rd Annual BC UCMAS Mental Math & Abacus Competition on Sunday, April 24, 2016. The event was a great success with record participation and outstanding performance by the UCMAS students. Three-hundred UCMAS Mental Math students aged 4 to 13 from the

four BC centres in Surrey, Vancouver and Richmond took part in this year’s competition. At the competition, which tested speed and accuracy in arithmetic, the UCMAS students had eight minutes to solve as many as 100-200 math questions depending on the students’ level, using only an abacus or mental math. The math questions included arithmetic calculations of columns of figures that required students to tabulate at a rate faster than using a calculator.

“We are thrilled and proud of our UCMAS students’ skills and achievements”, said Rashmi Mehta, Director at the BC UCMAS Provincial Office. “Our Annual Provincial Competition provides UCMAS students with a unique opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency in Abacus & Mental Math skills acquired through their learning in UCMAS. Our UCMAS program instills in our students key cognitive skills such as problem solving, visualization, focus and mental sharpness that are essential for their academic and personal success.” At the Awards Ceremony, one hundred finalists and champions were presented with trophies and medals in 14 different categories. All students received participation medals and

special gifts in appreciation for their efforts and enthusiasm. The provincial and local dignitaries that were on hand to award the students their prizes were themselves recognized with commemorative plaques. With an audience of 500 guests including parents, families and friends, the dignitaries at the Awards Ceremony included Hon. Randeep Sarai, MP for Surrey Centre, Ms. Alexa Loo, City Councillor for Richmond and two-time Olympian, Mr. Nawal Tandon, Dhrishti Publications, Ms. Anita Dhir, business leader and philanthropist, Dr. Avinashi and Mrs. Veena Avinashi. How to prevent Sugar Cravings Naturally According to estimates, an average Canadian consumes 72 kg of sugar every year. Ironically, in some cases, it exceeds the weight of an average individual.

By: Surinder Shaun Kochhar LPN, FCN

Cont. from last issue Eat More Frequently Throughout the Day Eat your breakfast before 9.00 AM daily off day /holiday all inclusive. It will fire up metabolism in time. One of the most common causes of sugar cravings is skipping meals. When you skip a meal or leave long periods between your meals, your energy levels drop. It results in your body to crave for sugary foods to give you a quick energy boost. Try eating five to six small meals a day throughout the day. This will provide your body with a more steady supply of energy. Eat more fibre throughout the day We need to eat fibre daily. The scale is 14gm per 1000 calories. TaKe 35gm a day to keep cravings under check to eat fiber. Eat Apples An apple a day keeps the doctor away, goes the old adage. The inside of the skin of the apple have a dietary fibre named pectin which keep us feel full for a longer time. As compared with other fruits, apple have a lower Glycemic Index/Load. Go for organic apples and eat the skin too. In case of non-organic apples, the skin may not be good to be eaten as it is sprayed with around 40 types of fertilizer. In case we peel away, the skin and do not eat it, the cancer-fighting pectin is lost. The Key is EAT LOCAL ORGANIC APPLES with a tablespoon of peanut/almond butter as a snack before night sleep in case u are hungry before sleep. Have oats in breakfast Eating a bowl of freshly cooked oatmeal [not microwavable version] for breakfast is a great way to start your day off right. Oatmeal has the highest satiety ranking of any food, and eating them early in the day has been shown to reduce cravings

as well as the number of calories consumed throughout the rest of the day. This is because, unlike most other carbohydrate-rich foods, oatmeal digests slowly and thus helps keep blood sugar on at acceptable level of 10mmol during the day 2 hrs after the meal. Further, oats are a good source of many B -vitamins as well as zinc. Caution: Instant/ Microwavable oats are not a good choice as they are highly processed and germ/nutrients are lost during processing plus sugar and salt is added. A steel cut or Irish organic oats from a reputed store is what we need to eat. Cinnamon Cinnamon has extraordinary properties that can help keep sugar cravings at bay. A mere half a teaspoon [2.5gm] of cinnamon per day has been shown to be very effective at normalizing blood sugar levels and reducing food cravings. The main active ingredient in cinnamon is called hydroxychalcone, which is thought to enhance the effect of insulin. Cinnamon also appears to prevent post-meal blood sugar spikes by slowing the gastric emptying rate (GER), which means that the food remains in the stomach longer.

Cinnamon strengthen the Insulin to be more effective in blood glucose mgt regime. Beans Beans should be an integral part of any nutritional plan designed to stave off sweet cravings. Beans are loaded with protein plus fiber — a stellar macro-nutrient combo for preventing cravings. More so, beans appear to promote the release of cholecystokinin in the small intestine ,a digestive hormone that has appetite suppressant qualities. If your diet is currently low in beans, it is best to add them. Caution: Like whole grains beans cause intestinal gas. Sugar[ a part of carbohydrates] is quintessential for life . But over the optimum level rob health away. The right food and eating every 3 hours is the key. Portion control is most important. In case we do not fix our sugar cravings we are living a life which is fraught with risk and threatened longevity. Recent studies are suggesting that type 2 diabetes if not managed can lead to Alzheimer’s disease, a type of Dementia. Doctors call this Type 3 diabetes .

Latest Upcoming android phones

The concept of android phones is growing at the faster pace. There are always new android phones coming out. OEMS are preparing their 2016 line ups for the release. There are some amazing updated phones coming out in the next few weeks and months.

Samsung Galaxy S7

Every year the release of Samsung’s flagship android is a great deal. After the last year Samsung Galaxy 6 release, hope with a Samsung Galaxy 7 increases among the people that company with come up with those features in Samsung Galaxy 7 which is dropped from that device. There will be some more interesting and new quirks this time around. Features of the phone As per the report GS7 will sport another 5.1-inch Super AMOLED at 2560×1440. The curved Edge variant will be a very different device, though. This one will have a 5.5-inch curved AMOLED at the same resolution. Both phones will introduce additional always-on screen functionality like Motorola or LG have been using. The battery is un- removable, but Samsung

will reportedly bump the capacity to 3000mAh in the GS7 and 3300mAh in the Edge variant. However, some international versions of the phone might still have Exynos chips. Samsung will bring back the microSD card slot too, but possibly only on the non-Edge model. The camera might back off to just 12MP from the 16MP Samsung has used for the last two years. However, it should have better low-light performance than any sensor on the market.

LG G5

After Samsung another company rules the mobile world is LG. Another model with which is LG is coming is LG 5. The company is looking to be known for some new distinct features. One notable change — this phone is said to have a metal frame,

which LG has thus far avoided. Features of the phone There are two cameras equipped in the LG 5 on the back for capturing 135-degree ultra-wide-angle photosLG may also add an RGB color sensor to the camera module to assist with scene detection and focus. The G5 LCD is said to be slightly smaller at 5.3-inches to make room for a secondary ticker display, similar to the V10. This screen will display notifications and the time, when the display is off, and has expanded notification text and app links when it’s on. LG is expected to slim down the battery to just 2800mAh, but it will still be removable. That might not be an issue with the smaller screen and more efficient SoC. The real hardware quirk could be a so-called “Magic Slot.” This is a hardware expansion slot that can be used to add things like a 360-degree camera, audio amp, and more.

The Robin has a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of memory, and 32GB of storage (with an extra 100GB in the cloud). The 5.2-inch 1080p LCD and 13MP camera are about what you’d expect from a middle-high tier smartphone. It will apparently ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is a good start for this new company. The version that ships will be GSM only, with a CDMA variant following later. Additionally, it’s just the first set of backers getting their phones. Other backers and anyone else who wants to pick up a Robin will have to wait.

Google Project Ara

HTC One M10

HTC’s 2016 plans have been less leaky than Samsung’s and LG’s as of late, but a few less reliable reports have surfaced. What we’ve heard so far is that the upcoming HTC flagship (possibly called the M10 or O2) will again show off HTC’s uni-body metal design, but it will be closer in shape to the recently released A9. On the back will be a fingerprint sensor and a camera that is hopefully not terrible this time. Features of the phone The phone is expected to have a 1440p LCD this time, powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC. The Snapdragon 810 dragged the M9 down last year more heavily than most phones. It heated up very quickly. To counter the mediocre battery life of last year’s model, HTC is rumored to be planning a 3500mAh non-removable battery.

Next bit Robin

This is a cloud-first smartphone that relies on intelligent offloading of apps and data to the cloud. That leaves you with more local space, and the phone will reach out and grab your data automatically when you need it. Features of the Phone

The Ara modular phone was inherited by Google when it took over Motorola’s ATAP group before selling the rest of the company off to Lenovo, and it’s not hard to see why it held onto this division. Features of the phone The core of Ara will have a screen attached to a frame which accommodates a variety of hardware modules for RAM, storage, batteries, cameras, and more. Even wacky niche stuff like projectors could be attached. You will be able to build the phone you want, and upgrade it as new modules come out. To make this work, Google is developing a special branch of Android 5.0 that will support hot-swapping most of these components. Hope among these all, you can find a phone of your choice!

R. Balki talks about ‘Ki and Ka’ prejudice in society, religion with Times of India

bollywood

MAY 2016

Ankita Lokhande all set to make her Bollywood Debut soon!

A K

i & Ka an Indian romantic comedy-drama film written, directed, and produced by R. Balk released on 01 April. The film follows a young, married couple whose relationship challenges the gender roles placed upon women and men in Indian society. It stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor. R Balki initiates about talking of breaking the gender stereotype by his movie ‘Ki and Ka’. In the movie he has raised voice against the age old practices which includes prohibiting entry of Shani temple in Pune. R Balki says that owe my movie to the normalcy in my life. R Balki with his movie said that please change your religion. The director the movie ‘Ki and Ka’ promotes the slogan ‘Streeling, Pulling and samething’. He also added in his interview that ridiculous thing of forcing the people to do what the society feels right or the religion agreed to, is the most disturbing factor of gender bias that is forcing the women not to do jobs and men to prove to the society that ‘men are enough’. R Balki also added about the instances in the movie where audience will see the character of Arjun Kapoor being humiliated by his father for his choice of being a home maker. The character ‘Kabir’ is told to check his gender by looking under his pants. The award-winner director supporting Arjun’s statement that men’s choice to be a homemaker do not make them any weaker in the society and that they should be respected to not be so ‘egoless’ about themselves, has also shown few sequences where Arjun’s character of Kabir gives a tough fight to goons on the street. Even Arjun Kapoor, every now and then, has spoken about bringing end to discrimination against both the genders, but also said that this film is not only about gender-bias prevalent in society. Kareena is terrific, Arjun, endearing. But Balki’s writing is inconsistent. A few scenes leave you misty-eyed, but for the most part, the stock situations are banal. Yet, Ki and Ka is worth a ticket because it shows how there is nothing wrong with the man wearing the apron and the women wearing her ambition.

It can be of architectural designs like a special art piece, fireplace or any beautiful view. If in your mind there is any inspiration piece that you cannot purchase it right way, decorate that piece in mind and purchase when you can. • Start the decoration with the paint color : Dark color make a small room look smaller so before making a selection of color always keep in mind the size of the room. Western color themes are cactus greens, sunset reds, earthy browns, clay yellows and deep sky blues. Paint is the easiest, most affordable way to set the stage for western decorating throughout your home. • Start with small, choose several pieces of room that you like: If you are starting it with a bathroom, then start with a cabinet hardware. There are many types of cabinet knobs and hardware in old western styles equipped with a shotgun shells, equestrian style, barb wire, using Conchos western belts and other items seen in the Horse show ring. The best part about this is that all of these are available in rustic Western themes, featuring sculptures, iconic symbols, and ranch capes cowboys. Choose the style that you like the best and gradually make an addition of some quality pieces. Soap dishes and dispensers, containers for bath items, and necessities like linens, bath mats and shower curtains can all be used to enhance the western theme. Spend the most money on the things you touch like towels, rugs and bathroom accessories to create a feeling of luxury. Hang western art work or rustic signs on large blank spaces; frame the bathroom mirror with old barn wood. • Decorating the Bedroom: If you are decorating a bed room, then make use of the western style photo frames and some small knick knacks to bring the western touch to the room. Table tops and shelves give a great look to homes for wrought iron sculpture and small collectibles like spurs, Stirrups and wagon wheels. Cowhide rugs and pillows enhance the western scheme. Add character with western sculptures or items like horseshoes, stirrups and wagon wheels. • Put more concentration on the artwork: Simple way to incorporate the western décor is to put focus on the artwork. Framed artwork featuring western wildlife, pastoral ranch lives or a traditional cowboy culture put a great addition to any western room décor. • Always choose a comfort set in a color that you like the most and make it your color inspiration: If your son loves horses a cow boys then make your inspiration piece a western comforter and choose the color scheme as per that compliments it. Travel in Mauritius: Moniker of Paradise

Islands

Mauritius is a volcanic island nation situated in the Indian Ocean, famous for its beaches, lagoons and reefs. The mountainous interior encompasses Black River Gorges National Park, with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails and native fauna like the flying fox. The capital, Port Louis, blends foreign influences and offers sites such as the Champs de Mars horse track, colonial Eureka plantation and 18thcentury botanical garden.

F

or every person who is activity lover, visiting Mauritius is one of the best options. The best part about this place is just that-it is tiny. This means that you can easily travel from one end to other easily in a little more than two hours by the car. For adventure in Mauritius there are lots of choices ranging from plethora of water sports to land activities such as scuba diving, sunrise cruise, kite skurfing and many more. If you will come back without making an experience of these activities, visiting that place will be waste of time and money both. All these activities are the main attractions of Mauritius.

Activities are:

Walking with the lions: There is plenty to do at the ‘The Casela World adventure’, it is an amusement park where you explore quad bikes, Zip lines, Segway rides, safaris, Canyon and the list goes on. The best here is walking with the lions-an opportunity for you to be in close proximity to the majestic animal. One catch: these activities allowed only for the people who are aged 15 and above. The other absolute with the young one is the Petting farm where you can feed

deer and rabbits. It also houses animals such as ostriches and wallabies. Dolphin and Whale watching: Travelling South- West for another adventure of Mauritius, pods of dolphins, flipping through the water, leaving a silvery wake. The West coast of Island is fully equipped with the dolphins that rest here before heading towards the sea. You can also experience swimming with the dolphins. In most of the cruise packages include drinks, visit to the Bentiers Island and the landmark crystal Rock, which looks like giant floating rock. If you have a wish to see whales you will have to go further into the deep sea. But all depends on your luck and weather. Parasailing at the ILE Aux Cerfs – This tiny island is just a boat ride away from the main island. It offers a beautiful vistas and calm water for doing host of water activities and swimming. The most popular among all is the parasailing from the platform set in the sea. One can go tandem or opt for solo rides. Other places for parasailing are Grand Baie in the North and Belle Mare in the East.

Under water scooter- Pilot an underwater submarine scooter or ride pillion three metres deep to get a great view of the reef and discover a marine life. You don’t have to know how to swim for this. You can also take the pleasure of under-sea walk. Water sports- Sea kayaking, wind surfing, stand up paddling, tube and banana boat riding all are the attractions of Mauritius.

Cast: Neel Sethi, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Christopher Walken, Lupita Nyong’o Director: Jon Favreau Rating: 4/5 The jungle book proved to be a big blockbuster. India gives much love to Jungle Book, earns Rs 10 crore in one day Somewhere in Los Angeles in a dark jungle, where boy named’ Mowgli’ lives with the animals. These animals speak in the menacing tones of Idris Elba; hold you under their spell in the sultry voice of Scarlett Johnson and sings exactly like Bill Murray. If you are thinking to see the Hindi version of the Jungle Book then make it Irfan Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Nana Patekar. The coaching for the movie given to them by the Director’ Jon Favreau. The main attraction of the movie is the character of Mowgli that is being played by ‘Neil Sethi’. He is the only living and breathing entity. The best part about the movie is that you would consider Bagheera, Baloo, Shere Khan and party equally real by the time the show’s over. Present day technology gives an advanced look to the movie as compare to the movie’ Avatar’. The movie is totally an eye-popping spectacle where animals emote using their eyes

The Jungle Book

and jungle breathes. The movie is overwhelmed as so real – from the way they talk to their sinuous walk to even their eyes. Just like the animals, director turns the jungle into the place of the fear and yet home also. Starting from the burst of sunlight and colour in its happy moments, it seamlessly turns into a mist-filled horror with predators lurking at every corner when the mood takes it. Every little detail in this film is rendered with such precision and love that though dangerous, it has enough joie de vivre to carry you along. How the performance of the

characters of ‘Jungle Book’? The voice work is excellent all around. We hear ShereKhan before we see him and Elba brings an air of menace to the film. Khan is enjoying his cruelty and the actor expresses it in a remarkable way. Ben Kingsley’s Bagheera, also the narrator, is a statesman-like figure, Mowgli’s father figure and the voice of sense proves to be the best villain of the year. But the real winner is Murray’s Baloo. A slacker who is not above a bit of lying if it can get the job done; Baloo is the story’s comic relief. His relationship with Mowgli takes the heart of people in the theatre and Favreau lets it breathe. Dialog delivery in the movie

The fact that he gets the film’s best dialogues also helps. That brings us to Neel Sethi, our Mowgli and a difficult find if the director is to be believed. The Indian American boy has a natural screen presence and brings an infectious energy to the role.Bill Murray plays the slacker Baloo who brings the much needed comedic break. (Disney). All in all, a casting choice made in heaven. What change in the Jungle book 2016 and Jungle book 1990? The Jungle Book versions we have seen till now – the Disney film made almost 50 years ago and the classic anime show on Doordarshan in the 90’s? It matches up. The tone may be different and it may be edgier, but at heart The Jungle Book is still an adventure and a coming-of-age tale. Favreau gives us that sense of wonder, something we so desperately desire in these days of one franchise too many. The fact that he manages to do it in a story we all know so well is remarkable. And if you are a kid who grew up in the 90’s in India and are missing the ‘Chaddipehenkephoolkhilahai’ track, Disney took care of that too with this new-age anthem… However, a word of caution, do take your children but prepare them for some awe and shock. The Jungle Book is no longer cute and cuddly but a tale of survival. This time, it really is a jungle out there. But I can guarantee one thing, once you and your children do enter it, you would not want to leave.
