Spinal Decompression Therapy in Vancouver, Surrey & Fleetwood What to Know

S

Krishna Jeeja

(CEO MJ Physio)

pinal Decompression Therapy is a highly recommended therapy for people who are suffering from back pain and/or leg pain. This therapy focuses on stretching the spine to relieve pressure off the vertebrae. Once the tension is released from the vertebrae, the discs that were either bulging or herniated can return to normal. Hence, the release of pressure eases the flow of water, oxygen, and nutrients to your discs, allowing them to heal faster. At MJ Physio we own a robust decompression/ traction table for spinal decompression therapy in Fleetwood, Surrey & Vancouver locations. The table is designed so that the decompression/ traction force to the desired point by adjusting the angle of pull

Spinal traction stretches the spine to take pressure off compressed discs. This straightens the spine and eases the muscle. As per the theory, this process creates a negative intradiscal pressure that is likely to have two potential benefits: pulling the herniated disc material back into the disc and promoting the passage of healing nutrients into the disc. Indications for Decompression traction include: Indications: 4Sciatica 4Herniated (degenerative disc disease) 4Bulging disc 4Diseased spinal nerve roots 4 Muscle spasm at the neck and low back Also check out the 8 Best Physiotherapy Exercises for Low Back Pain Relief.

ehind every successful relationship is a loving partner and comrade-in-love. It is rightly said that some people are made for each other, their match is made in heaven and they eventually find their way to each other as destiny has it planned for them. You’ll know it immediately when you see them. How do we know if we have met the right person? Their relationship seems perfect — both partners are thriving in their own respective professional and social lives but somehow still manage to make enough time for each other. Has a friend ever rolled her eyes at the sheer awesomeness of your relationship but followed up with a genuine compliment about how lucky the two of you are? If you’ve had multiple friends or family members express to you that they love how you and your guy just seem to fit, you might be a part of a power couple. Being a power couple isn’t about having great looks or financial status, it is about having a fulfilling relationship and bringing out the best

in your partner. It is about being each other’s pillar of strength and being madly in love. Here are a few traits that all power couples have in common and you never know, you might be one too! 1. They bring out the best in each other. If your partner makes you feel great about yourself, that is

love

Cherishing the bond of

powerful in its own way. Your other half in a power couple will push you to achieve your goals, not just assure you that you can do it by yourself. 2. They communicate. Communication is key in any relationship, but power couples especially excel at it. Since busy schedules can easily cause conflicts, members of a power couple train themselves well to communicate their desires to their partner so that work does not interfere with the relationship and the time spent together can be spent peacefully. 3. They empower each other to succeed. Although guides to romance tend to ignore finances, your job is actually a huge part of your dating life. It takes up your days, and depending on the gig, it can also consume a large part of the time that you could be spending with your partner. Power couples understand one another’s goals and are willing to make personal sacrifices for the sake of success. If your partner doesn’t push you to go for that

big promotion, then they’re not empowering you.

4. They prioritize quality time over money. Not only do power couples know that spending quality time together is important but they actually make the concerted effort to do it and they don’t rely on money as their main source of happiness. “One of the biggest misconceptions about power couples is that you have to have a lot of money to make someone else happy,” reveals Prost. “But research studies show that marital satisfaction and relationship longevity are correlated with having a strong friendship.” You respect each other outside of the relationship. 5. They respect each other outside of the relationship. It is said that power couples have the utmost respect for each other at all times, even when the other isn’t around or times are tough. This looks like always staying on the same team and not airing complaints about their partner to family, friends, or colleagues.

7 IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF LIFE INSURANCE

Consult an advisor in-person if you plan to purchase life insurance

L

Though online tools can provide you initial assistance in gaining a general idea about financial requirements (premiums) of life insurance policy, when you actually intend to purchase insurance, it’s always better to consult an expert insurance agent. Since the agent is well aware of the related procedures for application and underwriting and, has a better understanding of various insurance carriers offering insurance, he will help you in choosing the best option available at affordable rates keeping in mind your health condition and financial capability.

Sandeep Ahuja

ife insurance is an immensely beneficial tool that offers you financial protection against the risk of death. But there seems to be a lot of confusion in general about the concept due to varied reasons such as the complex nature of life insurance and people’s tendency to avoid discussing about their demise. Below mentioned important aspects about life insurance will help you understand the concept so as to enable you in making the wise decision to invest in life insurance. Life insurance helps compensate for the inevitable financial consequences arising due to the death of the insured. It lessens the sudden financial burden of the family members at the time of unexpected death of their loved one. The family can use the claim benefit to pay the funeral expenses, outstanding debts and mortgages, planned educational expenses and lost income. Thus, a life insurance policy can provide valuable peace of mind to the policy holder as he is assured that it would come to the rescue of his loved ones in case he ceases to exist. Life Insurance is an immensely beneficial financial tool If you have financial dependents, it is vital that you should purchase life insurance. Your spouse or dependent children necessarily require financial protection. But, even if you are someone’s ex-spouse, sibling of a dependent adult, a child of dependent parents, an employer, an employee or a business partner, you may need to purchase insurance. On the other hand, if you are stably retired or financially independent www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

and your absence won’t cause financial hardship for anybody, then you don’t need life insurance. However, you can use life insurance as an effective financial tool. A life insurance policy involves four primary stakeholders/key persons

insurance, the policy premium is based upon the probability that the insured will die within a stated term—typically 10, 20 or 30 years. The premiums are guaranteed during the opted term after which they can escalate. But, in permanent life insurance, the premiums are guaranteed for life. Permanent life insurance offers cash build up within the policy.

These are- the insurer, the owner, the insured and the beneficiary. Insurance company is the insurer which provides life insurance coverage and pays out claims in the case of a death. The owner of the policy pays premiums to the insurance company. The person upon whose life the policy is based is the ‘insured.’ And finally, the beneficiary is the person, trust or other entity who will receive the claim (death benefit) in case the insured dies. For example, Mr. A is both the owner and the insured for a life insurance policy with XYZ insurance company (insured). He will pay the premiums to the insurance company. His spouse Mrs. B is the beneficiary. So, she will receive the death benefit in case Mr. A dies. Choices available for life insurance Among the various choices available for life insurance, we can broadly categorize life insurance into Term Insurance and Permanent Insurance. While on one hand, Term Life plan offers protection with minimum expenses but limited features, Universal Life plan offers most comprehensive coverage and features by investing more payment in the premiums. Home Inspection: An important aspect to keep your home safe

A

home inspection is just like going to the doctor or getting your car fixed. Even if you didn’t do anything wrong, it can be nerve-racking and traumatic when there are problems with your house in the hot seat. A clean report might sting a bit even though nothing bad was found because of how close we all get to our homes. A home inspection is not an all-ornothing test. However, it does allow the buyer to renegotiate and walk away if they are dissatisfied with anything that was found during the process of inspecting your property! What is a home inspection? In the process of closing a home sale, buyers typically hire a home inspector to come in and do an

inspection. They identify any potential health or safety hazards that they may not have been aware of before buying it.

What are the types of home inspections? There are two types of home inspections in a sale: the buyer’s inspection and the seller’s (or pre-listing) inspection. The buyer can get an evaluation before making their offer, so they know what to expect when it comes time for closing on that house. Issues might be brought up during these evaluations which could allow them to renegotiate or request repairs if need be--so make sure you’re prepared! How does the home get inspection? The average home inspection takes a few hours and can be done in any number of ways. The inspector will inspect the house from top to bottom, looking for anything that is broken or hazardous, noting all such issues on their report which usually only takes 3-4 days to complete. Who gets to be there? Anyone can join in on a home inspection. In the past, it was common for only one person to be present during this process - but times have

12

JULY 2021

changed! Nowadays more people are better informed about what’s going on inside their homes and want to witness every step of the way. A good idea is bring someone with you or ask them if they’re available when your inspector schedules time slots so that there’s always at least two sets of eyes watching out for any potential problems within your new property investment. What to look for during an inspection? 4Roof damage or issues 4HVAC problems 4Issues with electrical of the property 4Water Damage 4Plumbing 4Structural Issues 4Pest and Insect Infestation All in all, home inspections are meant to keep homeowners safe. You can get a pre-listing inspection and avoid repair requests from house buyers, but you will be legally required to disclose the findings of the report which may prove detrimental in your sale process. Home buyers and sellers are always at risk of having their deal fall through, but there’s a way to ensure that won’t happen. When an offer has been accepted by the seller and is then countered with negotiation from the buyer, it can lead to either tearing apart or strengthening this agreement depending on how you respond. The only way for both parties to be sure they’ll go into closing without any issues is if home inspection results come back clean before signing anything else. Written By: Sami Ahmad

Saving up for that hefty down-payment Have you ever wished that someone would just hand over the keys to a house? Well, it turns out there are ways for first-time home buyers to buy their dream property. For example, if your budget only allows $40000 of down payment but is still within range of the minimum requirement set by Canada’s Housing and Mortgage Corporation (HMC), then try putting in 10% or more upfront money into an RRSP account with HMC’s Home Buyers’ Plan. The plan lets you borrow up 25% of whichever balance is left after purchasing a new residence - this means 50%. Basically, enough cash so that when combined with what was saved will equal at least 5%. The biggest hurdle for first time home buyers is saving up. Once you’ve figured out the down payment amount you can afford, you can use a mortgage payment calculator to estimate what your monthly payment will be. Pre-approval? You know when you’re looking for a new home and searching through listings? You might think the first step is to contact your realtor, but it’s not. Most Canadians believe that calling their agent would be the next logical move in buying a property, but this isn’t correct! It turns out that most people who are interested in finding an affordable place don’t want anything fancy or too expensive. You just found an amazing open house listing on Realtor.ca-- time for some quality Sunday night research! But wait...you can call up any of those guys with big signs at every corner promising “fastest sale guaranteed”? Nope: contrary to popular belief among Canadian homeowners-to-be (or so we’ve been told), contacting agents should come AFTER you have made an appointment with your bank’s mortgage specialist or an independent mortgage broker. Make sure you can afford it! Buying a home is often considered one of the most important decisions in life but being realistic about what you can afford to buy and carry could be just as crucial. Your annual household income will help determine how much money you have for mortgage payments each month. However, when deciding between buying or renting your new place it’s also good to consider other monthly expenses like property taxes and condo fees that might factor into the total amount available for carrying costs - such as heating electricity bills! Many people dream of owning their own homes at some point in their lives although we must always www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

A Perfect guide for the

First Time Home Buyer remain realistic with regards to our financial constraints. The size of your bank account will depend on whether or not you are able to make full payment towards purchasing a house every year. Do your homework. One of the most important steps in your home hunt is to ensure that you’re getting the best deal on a mortgage. You don’t want to just go straight for what’s local and expect it’ll be better, because odds are high that bank branches won’t offer their clients or customers anything but an average rate (which definitely isn’t good enough). Make sure you do all research necessary by comparing rates with different banks, lending agencies, brokerages so you know which one will give YOU THE BEST RATE POSSIBLE!

Your down payment and your monthly mortgage payments are just the beginning of buying a home. There is so much more to consider than what you think! You have closing costs, land transfer tax, CMHC insurance (which protects lenders), utilities like hydro or gas for heating there’s also property taxes that vary from region-to-region in Canada. That’s why we recommend setting up an emergency fund before purchasing anything else – it can really come in handy when unexpected expenses arise during house hunting season such as power outages due to winter storms which might shut electricity off temporarily until repairs take place. Cast: Vidya Balan, Sharat Saxena, Vijay Raaz, Mukul Chadda, Brijendra Kala, Neeraj Kabi, Ila Arun Director: Aijaz Khan Rating: * * * * (Three stars) By: Vinayak Chakravorty Political turmoil and separatist violence have now become synonymous with Kashmir. It wasn’t always that way. Once known as heaven on earth, the paradisical importance of the violent valley is celebrated in muted shades of innocence and redemption in this gentle saga of love trust and belief during times of acute strife.

This is a film that Majid Majidi could have made. The blend of blood and innocence is the hallmark of the Iranian auteur’s filmmaking style. Director Aijaz Khan has adapted Majidi’s style wholesale and then given it his own striking yet unostentatious twist. This is a Kashmir shrouded in militancy and yet salvaged by redemptive twists of fate which perhaps would stump even God. Standing tall in this slender parable of strife and humanism is little Hamid, played with a instinctive gravity and artless wisdom by Talha Alshad Reshi. Casting him is half the battle won. As little Hamid converses on his missing father’s cellphone with ‘God’ (who turns out to be a troubled CRPF trooper with a Bihari accent) the plot puts forward a sturdy yet subtle argument for dialogue, albeit on an artless “poetic” level, which for all practical purposes serves no purpose in the real world of stone pelters and human bombs. And yet in spite of the film blissfully burying its head in the clouds, there is a burning yearning for peace underlining the treacherous tranquility of the film’s surface. In fact the director doesn’t seem to be very comfortable with the bursts of violence that punctuate little Hamid’s dialogues with ‘God’. The film’s only unconvincing moments are those that show the characters losing their equilibrium. Hamid’s desperate desire for the return of his missing father, his unlikely phone-friendship with the trooper Abhay (what if Ritesh Batra’s “Lunchbox” was about a www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Slowburn impact

long-distance friendship between a father-less child and a man seem to be in some way responsible for the little boy’s tragedy?) and his eventual realisation that the father he so anxiously awaits will never return, are mapped in a labyrinth displaying the pathway of pain and suffering into the human heart. Adapting this poetic political parable to the large screen, director Aijaz Khan forfeits none of Kashmir’s scenic outdoor beauty, nor at the same time, does the film’s frames look like touristic brochure. As the story of little Hamid unfolds in a tapestry of pain and selfrealisation, we are taken on a subtle tender yet revealing voyage into the valley of violence. While the little boy Talha Alshad Reshi with his big questioning eyes is a natural-born scene stealer, Rasika Duggal as an impoverished single parent struggling to come to terms with the immensity of her loss, is the portrait of supreme conviction and credibility. Curiously the film daintily steers away from getting into the murkier aspects of the mother’s singlehood in a state ridden with predatory aggression. For better or for worse, this gem of a film wants to steer its boat away from the violence that stares little Hamid and his mother in the face. Rounding out this resonant raga of hope, the narrative concludes with little Hamid receiving some expensive paint to colour the boat the boy builds by embracing his father’s craft of carpentry. Red is the colour of blood and bloodshed. But in this film it is also the colour of hope and positivity. It’s time to paint the Green Valley into postcard-perfect shades again. Hamid brings hope. It’s an irresistible piece on peace, and one that every Indian must see. Source: IANS

very year on July 1, Canadians celebrate their national holiday, Canada Day. This day commemorates the union of the British territories in North America into one single entity: Canada. It’s one of the biggest celebrations across the country and most businesses are closed to revel in the festivities, including government offices, many retailers, some grocery stores, and liquor stores. History of Canada Day Canada Day commemorates the anniversary of the British North America Act, which was signed on July 1, 1867. Under the act, the separate British colonies of North America came together for the first time under the same name, Canada. It’s not quite an “Independence Day” since the newly-formed Canada continued to be a British colony and gradually gained full independence from the U.K. over the next century. Although Canada now fully runs its own government and national affairs, it’s still a constitutional monarchy and the reigning king or queen of the U.K. is the official head of state, albeit a figurehead. Enjoying Canada Day Banks, government offices, and many other stores and businesses close on July 1 (or the following Monday if July 1 falls on a weekend). Even many retailers and grocery stores close down in observance of the holiday. Tourist attractions and restaurants are usually open but may have reduced hours, so it’s always wise to call ahead to confirm. In most cities, public transit is available but runs on an altered holiday schedule with reduced frequency, so plan extra

time for getting around. Typically, Canada Day celebrations include parades, fireworks, backyard barbecues, and other get-togethers. Many revelers wear red and white in honor of Canada’s national colors and the Canadian flag is proudly hung up in front of buildings and on windows. Canada Day in Ottawa Ottawa is Canada’s capital and the nucleus of Canada Day events in the whole country. The bulk of Ottawa’s Canada Day festivities happen on Parliament Hill and at Major’s Hill Park, right on the banks of the Ottawa River. Head down to the park early in the day to enjoy a patriotic festival with concerts, food stands, and interactive art displays, but also to snag a viewing spot for the evening fireworks show. During the day, a special dignitary

addresses the city and the nation from Parliament Hill with a commemorative speech—past speakers include Canadian prime ministers, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Queen Elizabeth II herself. Many of Ottawa’s museums are open and have free admission including the National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of History, and Canadian War Museum. Check individual museum websites to confirm admission rates and opening hours. Canada Day in Toronto As Canada’s most populous and most visited city, Toronto puts on a party to remember for Canada’s Birthday. As with other cities, Toronto celebrates Canada Day with festivals, live music, and fireworks in several parks around the entire city, making it easy to find a convenient location to join in on the fun. Mel Lastman Square in the north of Toronto is one of the biggest events, bringing in around 30,000 spectators each year, but downtown has plenty of revelries to enjoy with a final fireworks show over Lake Ontario. One can’t-miss event is the Toronto Ribfest in Centennial Park, located in

From a city-wide parade to a huge fishing festival, Vancouver goes all out for Canada Day. The hip and trendy Granville Island is always near the top of lists of things to see in Vancouver regardless of the time of year, but for Canada Day it’s extra special. Multicultural performances, live music, a parade, and a massive birthday cake for Canada are just some of the highlights. The Waterfront Party at Canada Place is one of the most happening places to celebrate in Vancouver, with street hockey tournaments, live performances, food stalls, and genuine citizenship ceremonies. It’s also a perfect viewing point for the evening fireworks spectacular over the water, so don’t leave before enjoying the show. Canada Day in Montreal In Montreal and around the entire province of Quebec, Canada Day is not celebrated as fervently as in the rest of the country. Federal offices and banks are closed, but many people in Quebec look at July 1 as “moving day” because this date has been historically the end of lease agreements. However, you’ll still find some festivities for this national holiday—called fête du Canada locally—and the majority of them are concentrated downtown around the Old Port. The party kicks off with a dramatic 21 gun salute by the Canadian Armed Forces. As with other major cities, the afternoon is filled with live music, food stalls, and interactive exhibits for family-friendly fun, with a fireworks show over the Saint Lawrence River to finish off the night.

s social distancing and quarantine become part of our new reality, a lot of real-life action has now gone virtual. From unending Zoom calls to online workout sessions to even virtual dates all the while being stuck at home -- the list only goes on. In such trying times, it’s important to not only care for those around you but also indulge in the right care for yourself. In fact, the need for self-care to ensure mental and physical well-being is being increasingly recognised as a potent tool to dealing with our demanding lifestyle today. Moving away from the conventional association of self-care with women, it’s now well acknowledged that self-care knows no gender -- because it is the art and act of consciously putting yourself first.

Boost your well-being while in isolation

So, how does one get started with self-care? Rachit Mehra, Senior Marketing Manager, Phy, PurePlay Skin Sciences Ltd, guides you how. Time for home workouts Gyms across cities might be temporarily shut, but what’s stopping you from setting up a makeshift gym in a corner of your room or balcony! If working out without a trainer feels unfamiliar, start off with one of those online training sessions on fitness apps. Working out releases endorphins that bring a natural glow to your skin while lowering your stress levels. And who doesn’t enjoy a refreshing shower after a fun workout. A sulphate-free bodywash infused with natural ingredients might just be what you’re looking for to take on the day recharged. Netflix and chill by yourself WFH has blurred the lines between office and home schedules. However, it is important to follow a schedule to take time out for yourself. Make sure to follow a schedule, eat your meals on time and most importantly, sign off from work on time. Catch an episode of your favourite series on Netflix, watch reruns of Friends if you need to blow off some steam laughing. Take time out for skincare Let’s face it -- in between our busy schedules we barely get time to wash our faces twice a day, let alone use a moisturizer. Why not use this isolation period as some downtime for your skin! Maintaing a basic skincare routine like washing your face in the morning and before going to bed, applying a moisturizer, using a good, fragrant bodywash to calm your senses, a body mist to quickly hit refresh doesn’t take a lot of effort and is definitely not time consuming. www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Isolation can be challenging and as individuals are separated from regular (read social) lives they are bound to go through a myriad of emotions -- anxiety, loneliness, stress, or feeling overwhelmed. But with some basics one can make the best use of these times. Skipping meals is a nono just how drinking water to stay hydrated is a big yes-yes. Listen to music, pursue a hobby and try to look at the brighter side of things, like not getting stuck in hours of work commute, being able to spend more time with friends, working out of your home in your pajamas; you get the drift! Self-care need not be an elaborate process or a ritual that needs to be saved for the weekend or a special day. And if anxiety or stress seem to be getting the better of you, reach out to a friend, family or a mental health expert and talk. In the end as they say, this too shall pass. By: N. The dilemma of parenting in a work-from-home world

A

m I doing It right? This is a question that many parents are asking themselves in the new environment of lockdowns and quarantines. Long before the pandemic, words like ‘stress, worry, guilt, fear’ have been part of the emotional lexicon as a working parent. With remote working, social distancing, health and wellness issues, and all the uncertainty of the pandemic, everything feels like it’s ten times harder than before. Most parents I know would agree that while working from home has its pros and cons, a year into it, we all are still struggling with the dilemma of how best to juggle a full-time job, be present as a parent, and find some time for ourselves. One of the much-touted benefits of remote working is the flexibility it offers in one’s work schedule. Work-From-Home (WFH) is perhaps the biggest disruption to the concept of the formal workspace since its advent in the 1800s. The rigours of a 9 to 5 job have been replaced with a work

‘where you are, when you can’ approach. Most of us save a lot of time and energy in a day, now that we don’t have to battle the great urban commute. Ideally, it is supposed to enable people to live a more stress-free life. For example, take a virtual meeting in the morning, help the kids set up for their online classes, do some more work, take a break to do chores around the house, spend time with the kids, do some more work, have family meals together, etc. While this sounds quite utopian, the reality is far from it. If you appreciate dark humour, you’ll see what I mean when I say that one is always ‘dashing’ these days -- dashing off because your kids need you in the middle of work and dashing off because your work needs you when you’re with your kids. It feels like one is doing more work than ever before -- both as a professional and as a parent. There’s a sense of guilt that one is not doing justice to either. The lines between work and home have become so blurred that we’re all used to seeing the

insides of our colleagues’ houses, and it’s almost normal when someone must take a break to deal with a domestic crisis in the middle of work. The routines that you spent most of your adult life setting up, have been thrown out of the window. The new normal doesn’t feel normal at all. So, how does one regain one’s balance again? The bad news is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to this dilemma. The good news also is that there’s no one-size-fitsall solution! If there’s no right answer, then at least, you’re not going to be wrong. I feel that it comes down to finding a ‘rhythm’ more than a balance. Instead of trying to replace routines and schedules, I think it helps to think of it as finding a fluid rhythm to one’s day. Instead of making strict plans, I find that it helps to factor in all the major priorities of the week, and then to move things around that. This would create enough wiggle room to do things when they’re needed. For example, it’s one of those days where your kids are in a happy place, and they want to spend

more time with you. Instead of sticking to your routine and then feeling guilty or sad all day that you couldn’t be with them, try moving things around so you have a couple of hours to spend with the kids and then catch up to your schedule later on. Similarly, suppose you have some work that needs you to be absolutely focused, or its one of those days when you feel inspired and would like some alone time to work distraction-free, it’s a good idea to trade ‘do not disturb’ time with your partner or a family member so that they can be in charge while you work. You could do the same for them as well. Instead of a strict routine that you feel you must live and die by, allow yourself to try a softer, more fluid rhythm where you can make the best of each moment. I find that the best part about this approach is that it allows you to address your needs and wants in the present, taking away that feeling of missing out, or not doing enough. The act of moving things around to suit what best needs to be done in each moment will also give you a sense of control and help you feel less overwhelmed in the long run. One of the things that has helped me find my daily rhythm is to think of things in terms of the things I ‘must’ do, and the things I ‘can’ do, instead of worrying over all the things I ‘should’ do. Another strategy that I’d espouse is to do multiple tasks, but not multi-task. For example, you could have a variety of different things you need to do in a day, but you do them one at a time. Trying to being mindful and present in every moment really helps to keep the stress away. Be your own best friend. Be compassionate to yourself and above all, be kind to yourself. You are doing the best you can, and that really is enough. By Neerja Birla

all about the Separation Anxiety Treatment Plan I n last month’s article we discussed how separation anxiety is presented in canines and felines. As promised in the forementioned

article, in this month’s segment we will be discussing a general treatment plan that can be implemented if you feel that your furry companion may

be experiencing separation anxiety. We highly recommend that you consult with your local veterinarian for a more specialized plan towards your specific situation; however, here are some general guidelines to help make this experience more comfortable for you and your pet.

The most common method of treatment is known as Counterconditioning. This process enables a dog experiencing fear, anxiety or aggression to become more relaxed, calm and happy. This is done by allowing your pet to associate good things that he or she loves with the triggering event that causes them discomfort. Eventually as this method is implemented, your pet begins to feel more at ease with being left alone due to the association of a good thing happening when this event that was previously seen as stressful, occurs. This is done by finding a good association, such as a certain favored toy or food. Every time you leave your house, make sure that your pet is offered that favorite toy or given food at that time. This will allow your dog or cat to feel comfortable with the idea of your leaving, believing that in doing so they will receive a high valued treat in return. Some owners may prefer to give a treat-based toy, distracting their pet for a long period of time. An example of such would be a treat stuffed KONG toy. Other common, highly favored treats are cheese, peanut butter, cream cheese, canned dog/cat food or kibble. However, it is important that once you come

28

JULY 2021

back home, this favorite treat should be removed right away. This way you are sending the clear message to your pet that this treat is only available when you are not in the house. It is important to note here that if you witness that your dog is refusing to eat while you are not at home, then this may be a sign of a more developed stage of separation anxiety. In this case, a more specific plan for your pet may be warranted by your local veterinarian.

We highly recommend that our clients stay well informed on the different types of anxieties that our pets can face. Being educated on such matters is a very detrimental step towards being able to even start a treatment plan towards helping them feel more at ease. Without having the accurate knowledge of what is required when starting a treatment plan, it is then very hard for the owner to follow through successfully and accurately follow the required steps. Certain anti-anxiety medications are also available in veterinary medicine; however, our primary priority is to assist in helping to solve the root problem at hand, before resorting to medications. Working together with your veterinarian and your pet is the key to finding success in this treatment journey!

Fitness, focus and fun with yoga for kids

A

ccording to a National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health survey, 1 in 12 children practice yoga. Over the years, yoga has become increasingly popular among Indian children. It helps in improving balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity. It can also help to boost memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour, thereby reducing anxiety and stress in children.

Yoga helps in the fitness of the body, increases the ability of the mind to focus, and is fun for the soul. Setalvad explains in details the 3Fs: Fitness for body Asanas like Shavasana, Navasana, Tolasana, Suryanamaskar, Chakrasana helps in strengthening the overall being of kids. It aims to develop both physical health as well as cognitive skills in children. It opens the energy channels throughout the body, increasing flexibility of the spine, strengthening bones, and stimulating the circulatory and immune systems. Along with proper breathing, these poses

or asanas also calm the mind and reduce stress. Focus on mind

Asanas like Pranayama, Padmasana, Sukhasana, and others, help a child to be aware of themselves and help them control their emotions. These act as a tool for calming and energizing the child to develop a state-of-relaxed mind, which is crucial for learning. It also develops social-emotional awareness, body awareness and coordination, and interpersonal skills. Fun for soul Children can adapt to all kinds of exercise and practicing yoga asana at an early age can lead them to having a healthy head start in life. In this fast-paced world, it helps to rejuvenate kids inside-out. The meditative pose helps to relax both our mind and body. It promotes spiritual awakening and awareness of higher consciousness. ‘Vaccination hesitation -a bigger evil than the virus’ our children.

Take the example of Telangana in India, where health authorities recently stated that 37,332 children were infected with the virus between March and May 2021. This coupled with the fact that 19,824 children got infected from August-November 2020 tells us how we grossly underestimated the impact of Covid-19 on children. Compared to the first wave, the number of positive cases and their severity has increased among children this time. Why is this concerning? This is in contrast to what was earlier perceived globally that children will not suffer from the severe direct symptoms of the virus, the indirect fallout on their lives and rights is a topic for another discussion. Direct Impact on Children Arrival of the mutant strain, delayed diagnosis and treatment, challenge of access to healthcare services, lack of space for social distancing are making children vulnerable. Children are showing symptoms of high grade fever, severe body aches, diarrhoea, coughing and abdominal pain requiring hospitalisation. In some cases, children are also showing symptoms of multi-system inflammatory syndrome. The fear of a third wave affecting children more than the adults has set alarm bells ringing. To safeguard children, the Union Health Ministry has listed guidelines for Covid-19 treatment for those below 18 years of age. According to government data, around 26 per cent of people infected with Covid-19 in India since May 1 are in the 18-30 age group. Debate -- Is Vaccination safe for Children Vaccination for people above 18 in India has been anything but smooth with reports of acute vaccine shortage and difficulty in registering for vaccination online. Globally, a conversation around vaccination for children has started with countries like the US taking the lead. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 6,00,000 children

30

JULY 2021

in the US between age 12 and 15 have received the Pfizer shot. Studies showed that the vaccine is 100 per cent effective in kids in the same age group. Canada, Singapore and the UAE, too, approved the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use in the 12-15 age group. Moderna is currently conducting age de-escalation studies. Johnson & Johnson also plans to do the same. Meanwhile, in India the Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for 2-18 age group will begin in June, which will include 525 subjects across canters in AIIMS (Delhi and Patna) and Meditrina Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur. India is also developing nasal vaccines which could prove to be a game changer. But these won’t be ready until next year. Vaccination and Covid Protocols For Children Before vaccination for children is rolled out, it is imperative that trials are conducted following compliances and guidelines to prove the effectiveness of the vaccine and how safe it is. Instead of hastening the process, protocols and standard norms need to be maintained. At this point, equitable access to a suitable and effective vaccine is critical and it is upto the global leaders to continue dialogue on this. Meanwhile, stringent public health measures like social distancing, wearing masks, sanitising hands and avoiding gathering of crowds need to be maintained. Vaccination alone

cannot help in ending the pandemic. While it may take some time for vaccines to be available for children, early testing and detection are key to treating children with Covid and preventing hospitalisation. Simultaneously efforts have to be made to strengthen hospitals and other health facilities for providing quality care to those children who might require hospitalization. Management of the infection will depend on the severity of the case. Vaccine Hesitancy Another issue to address is vaccine hesitancy as a large sample of the population are hesitant about receiving the vaccine owing to concerns about side effects or potential adverse outcomes and misinformation; especially when it concerns children. History shows that vaccine hesitancy has always existed; the experience of polio eradication in India has shown how it adversely impact the health of other children. An interesting fact: In the 19th Century, Charles Dickens had published several essays advocating the small pox vaccine and other public health initiatives in his weekly journal Household Words. India is not alone, many Americans are hesitant to get the Covid-19 vaccine and to convince them the US government, the states and the local businesses are offering all kinds of incentives. Free doughnuts, lottery tickets, cash prizes, free to tickets to events and parks, even beer are being offered. With the looming fear of a third wave in India, vaccinating parents is important to ensure we protect

Though rapidly changing, perceptions are that children have lower risk of severe outcomes from Covid-19, however, the infection can still impact children and be passed on from infected family members. While India has recently initiated vaccination trials for under 18, it is imperative that our central and state government agencies conduct mass awareness campaigns in rural and semi-rural areas to tackle vaccine hesitancy; to ensure the caregivers of children are protected. Moreover, to bust the myths and rumours around vaccinations and the ongoing trials, the government needs to create and disseminated data on public forums for scientists, medical experts and parents to study. Data Collection In 2020, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s directorgeneral, had said, “We’re not just fighting a pandemic; we’re fighting an infodemic.” Countries, healthcare workers and scientists need accurate data to design an effective response to control the pandemic. “The first thing you could do is collect data on transmission and its severity among youth and children in your district, and analyse them on a regular basis. I urge all officers to make an assessment yourself; this will help you in preparing for the future,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently told district collectors and field officials of 10 states. The government should ensure the data collection is disaggregated by sex, age and disability, prioritising the most vulnerable and marginalised children, including those who are orphaned, living in street situations, those in child care institutions, belonging to migrant families, refugees and those internally displaced. Should you oil your belly button?

I

t is the navel that provides the essence of life and growth. It supplies nutrition, blood, and oxygen to babies in the womb through the navel. Even as an adult, your navel, which is also the core of your body, is one of the key points of sustenance and growth. So like other parts of our boy which benefit by oiling does the navel as well? Not just the belly button, but the entire body, including our skin, benefits when you oil the navel. It is a primitive tradition described in our Vedas and Ayurveda, in which women and men oil their navels to nourish their entire bodies. Your belly button has been medically proven to be related to various veins throughout your body, and oiling it can help you heal from a variety of ailments. IANSlife in conversation with Preeti Chadha, Founder, IREMIA shares the importance of oiling the belly button: Why navel oiling?

32

JULY 2021

If we talk about the technique of navel oiling in general, it has a lot of benefits, as most mothers have taught their children it can help with correcting, balancing, and repairing neural connections in their bodies. Benefits of oiling: People commonly use mustard, cow ghee (desi ghee) or coconut oil on the navel, but it is ineffective due to the lack of ayurvedic qualities with heating elements. Massage should be with an oil that contains extracts such as neem, tea tree, lemon, grapeseed, and almond oil, which helps cleanse your belly button, for the greatest effects. Oiling the navel helps to detoxify the body and promotes healthy, radiant skin, free from radical damage. Furthermore, the navel absorbs oil more quickly and supplies sustenance from within. How to practice it? This procedure takes only two minutes. Pour oil over your belly

button and that’s all there is to it. Massage your belly button in a circular motion for 5-10 minutes after applying it to your navel. For the best outcome, do so every day before going to bed or after bath. Also, oiling at night can make you feel more relaxed when you wake up in the morning. During the menstrual cycle also, you can apply coconut oil on your navel, it helps soothe cramps. The belly button is more than just a little dot on your navel; it’s the chamber that has the answer to a slew of cosmetic issues. The belly button is connected to many veins throughout the body, and when it is nourished with oil, it aids in the treatment of a variety of health issues. Whatever carrier or oil you choose coconut, mustard, or rosemary it will be beneficial to you! Helps to remove dirt: Cleaning the belly button removes bacteria and filth that has accumulated and keeps the stomach and navel regions clear

of any potential ailments. Helps to purify the skin: Massaging and routinely oiling your belly button should be on your to-do list if you desire a radiant face and healthier skin texture. Oiling your belly button might help clean your blood and get rid of pollutants and blemishes. Therapeutic oils such as neem oil, rosehip oil, coconut oil, and lemon essential oil can help. Lightens lip shade: Coconut oil applied to the belly button every night before bedtime lightens and protects your lips from chapping. Good for eyes: If you suffer from poor vision then you must try out oiling your belly button with a diluted solution mixed with mustard oil and so it will improve your eye health. Also, for those who constantly strain their eyes on the screens it is a good way to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles. By: N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

A Girl in a Whirl

I did my make up several times but couldn’t feel happy with my looks. Despite having very dark make-up, my anxiety didn’t die down. Hardly had I realized my youth, it was ready to say goodbye to me. “This is happening all due to continuous horrible stress. Many fifty-year-old ladies don’t have even a single wrinkle on their face, why on mine? I am not going to live in any stress anymore.”, I promised to myself. Our interview date was nearing. I asked Baljit what to state before the visa officer. Baljit wanted me to state the same what we had said before. I agreed. Baljit drove the car himself. We were interviewed separately in the embassy again. The visa officers again asked us to wait after the interview. I kept praying for Baljit’s visa. After an hour, Baljit alone was called and interviewed. Baljit came back and both of us again waited in the lobby. Around 4:30 P.M., Baljit was called to wicket number five. Chanting waheguru in my mind, I followed Baljit. A lady gave a refusal

letter to Baljit again saying that the visa officer suspected his marriage fake. Baljit looked at me quizzically.

“I swear, Baljit! I stated the same as we had planned. I swear by Nancy, I swear by Waheguru.”, I entreated before Baljit. He thought of believing that I was speaking the truth. We came out of the embassy and sat in our car. He threw his head back and put his hands on his forehead. “Baljit, you are not taking me wrong, are you?”, I asked in trembling voice. Sometimes, we have to convince our closest relations despite being truthful. “No, Sonia, I’m cursing my bad luck. Those like me who go astray at young age, have to live with wrecked life till the end.”, Baljit replied after a pause. “If you want, I would live with you in India forever. I won’t go to Canada. I’m speaking the truth.”, I said sincerely. “What will you do here? I have nothing to keep you happy, Sonia. There is no use of my life. Better

if I die.”, Baljit’s eyes welled up saying so. “Don’t say like that, Baljit”, I stopped Baljit from saying so covering his mouth with my hand, and cleaned his tears with my dupatta. Baljit covered his face with his both hands and burst into tears.

“I had no right to spoil your life. I married only under my mom’s pressure. Parents wanted me to reach Canada somehow. I could never tell them my condition out of fear. What had happened at my hands, lord?”, Baljit again burst our crying. I could say nothing, just kept crying in my heart holding my lips tightly under my teeth. And I began patting Nancy’s head. In a while, we got a call from Baljit’s dad from Canada. Continued in next edition

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has signed a decree to create a “green pass”, a digital proof that the holder is not infected by the coronavirus.

The European Union (EU) is set to produce its own version of the “green pass” starting on July 1. Those certified in Italy will automatically qualify for the EU version of the pass when that system becomes operational.

The “green pass” is part of an effort for Italy to restart its massive tourism sector, which was crippled last year due to the lockdowns tied to the pandemic. The tourism sector accounted for more than 13 per cent of Italy’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, according to the data

Registration is available without cost, and the forms are available in Italian, English, French, and German with other languages likely to be added in the future. To be eligible based on health status, an individual must have had their first vaccine dose at least 15 days earlier, their second dose at least two days earlier, the same day as a negative test result, or within one day of being declared recovered from Covid. The certificate will remain valid for nine months after the last vaccine dose, for 48 hours after a negative test, and for six months after recovery. The pass will be required for attending large gatherings, and starting on July 1, will be valid for quarantine-free travel within the EU. firm Statista. But in 2020, that figure dropped to barely half of the normal levels amid the pandemic, just 7.0 per cent of the country’s diminished GDP. The new “green pass” is open to all

The scheme goes into effect during a period when the country’s main coronavirus indicators are showing a dramatic improvement, and while the country’s vaccination program is working smoothly. In the last 24 hours, Italy recorded 1,325 new coronavirus infections with 37 deaths,

which increased the overall caseload and fatality toll to 4,249,755 and 127,190. Both figures are broadly in line with recent days. The indicators have steadily decreased since the most recent peaks in March, when the number of daily infections was regularly

over 20,000 with more than 300 deaths. Italy has so far administered more than 44 million vaccine doses, and 14.8 million people, the equivalent to 27.3 per cent of the country’s population aged 12 or older, have been fully inoculated. Source: IANS

Diana Ross’ first album in 15 years set for September release

D

iana Ross has shared details of her first album in 15 years, titled “Thank You”.

“Thank You” is the follow-up to Ross’s 2006 album “I Love You”, and was recorded entirely in her home studio during the pandemic, reports bbc.com. Due for release in September, this will be Ross’s 25th solo studio album and 43rd overall. “This collection of songs is my gift to you with appreciation and love,” the 77-year-old veteran singer said in a statement. “I am eternally grateful that I had the opportunity to record this glorious music at this time,” she added. The title track, released a few days back, is a gospel-pop number that recalls the star’s Motown

years.

A press release said the album “offers a powerful, inclusive musical message of love and togetherness” and that “with its songs of happiness, appreciation, and joy, it wholeheartedly acknowledges that we are in this all together”. Ross has co-written all 13 tracks, working with a variety of contemporary names including Jack Antonoff, who has emerged as a key collaborator for female artistes like Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, St Vincent and Lorde. The soul singer started her career at Motown in the 1960s, achieving stardom with The Supremes, on chartbusters such as “Baby Love”, “Stop! In The Name Of Love” and “You Keep Me Hanging On”. How to deal with separation anxiety

S

eparation anxiety refers to the feeling of uncertainty and fear that stem from the idea of being separated from one’s loved ones, home, or something they are passionate about and emotionally invested in. While it is possible for anyone to experience separation anxiety, it is most common in infants.

Infants have to actually go through separation anxiety as a normal and healthy part of growing older. While they are initially hesitant when they cannot find their parents around them, they eventually get used to being by themselves. While kids learn how to accept and cope with separation, parents and caretakers have to figure out how to deal with their emotions, and this guide will tell you how to do just that. 1. Understand their emotions and address them Children look up to parents and caretakers as the only people they can rely on- they depend on them for everything. In a completely helpless world where they do not know how to care for themselves, children are likely to be scared of not seeing the familiar trusted faces around them. Separation is stressful for them, and hence it should be addressed and

acknowledged. Parents and caretakers should interact with children to tell them that they will be leaving them, and that it might scare them but nothing is going to happen.

2. Make them comfortable in their environment before leaving Kids must know who they are being left with and should be introduced to their caretakers by their parents before separation takes place. Seeing the parent interact with this person whom they do not know very well makes children think they are also reliable. It is imperative to leave children with friendly looking faces, and with those who are genuinely kind and sweet so that children learn the positive experience of interacting with others. They should be left with ample activities, games, and other choices to keep them occupied while away from the parent. 3. Leave swiftly and smoothly

children honestly about how long they are going to be away and assure them that it is going to be brief.

Once that is done, parents should leave swiftly without prolonging the separation process which might be just as anxiety inducing for parents as it is for children. 4. Reassure them while away To make sure kids are comfortable and content, parents should call them on the phone or maybe over a video call to see them and remind them that they are not forgotten but loved thoroughly. It is also important to ask them how they are feeling as this helps them remember that parents still care about them immensely while away.

5. Praise and appreciate them for their behavior

When reuniting with kids, they should be told how well they behaved and dealt with their separation. While hugs and kisses are great, open verbal appreciation for their bravado is also crucial for them. Final Words While intended for toddlers, these tips apply to adults also and can be tailored to meet the needs of any individual to make them feel safe and comfortable. It is crucial to be patient and kind to anyone with such separation anxiety; they are anyway dealing with much and the best way to aid their feelings is to validate and understand them.

Setting boundaries can help a child grow out of separation anxiety sooner as they begin to understand that their parents will keep their word and leave, and then also be back. It is important to tell

How to Have A Healthy Skin in Summer? drinks because you don’t want empty calories without any nutrients. Ritika Tiwari

W

hile you are busy enjoying summer pool parties and travelling the world with your friends, don’t forget to take care of your skin. It can get oily and pigmented because of the humidity, pollution, and scorching heat, which also attracts bacteria and other harmful pathogens.

Here are some quick and easy ways that will your skin healthy in summer and every other season after that: 1. Always use a sunscreen Buy a sunscreen that protects against both ultraviolet A and B rays and has at least SPF 30 to 75 content. Higher the SPF content, better will be the protection. If you are out of the house, re-apply sunscreen every two hours. If you are planning to stay indoors, SPF 15 to 40 would do the job.

2. Hydrate your body with 10 glasses of water everyday Consider water as your friend because it will keep your skin hydrated and healthy throughout the summer and other seasons of the year. It also flushes out toxins. Always carry a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. If you don’t like drinking plain water, you can make fruit teas or infused water. However, avoid drinking soda or adding sugar to your www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

3. Massage your face with an ice cube Every morning after getting up and every night before going to bed, massage your face and neck area with an ice cube. It not only hydrates your body but also boosts blood circulation, which improves the flow of nutrients to your face.

4. Exfoliate your entire body Your body sheds dead skin everyday, but it becomes difficult to clean it out during the summer because of the excessive sweat and salt our bodies produce. Whenever you shower, grab a body scrubber and your favourite shower gel to win back your everlasting glowing skin. Always use the scrubber in circular movements and rinse clean. Use a special exfoliator for your face because it is more delicate compared to other parts of your body. Use a face and body scrub two to three times in a week for deep exfoliation.

5. Take care of your feet While most of us manage to take care of our body, we often forget our feet. Treat yourself to a pedicure salon or give yourself a mini pedicure at home to get rid of the dead skin developed under your skin. Always keep a foot scrub handy in the shower and use it on alternate days. Apart from making your feet soft, the pedicure will keep them sandal-ready all season long. Stick to a diet that’s rich in fruits and veggies as they contain micronutrients that give your skin a beautiful glow.

Unraveling Canadian Government’s Most Recent Immigration Policy

I

mmigration has been an integral part of Canada’s economic growth. The statistics prior to the pandemic reportedly favored Canadian economy with a huge influx of immigrants all over the globe. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, however, initially weakened and took a toll on Canada’s prospects in terms of immigration revenue generation. The government did receive a major setback but was able to pull it off by announcing new immigration policies for the temporary residents already in Canada, majority of which was shared by skilled, semiskilled workers and students. The most recent Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident pathway was announced by IRCC with an intention of accepting 90,000 applications for Canada’s

under Essential Heath Care and Non-Health Care workers. Here is what you need to know if you are planning to apply in the aforementioned category: Permanent Residency amid the pandemic which is likely to generate extensive revenue for Canadian economy. This limited time policy ending in November 2021, will allow the temporary residents from the following categories to apply for their Permanent Residency: a) Essential Health Care and NonHealth Care Workers (Still accepting applications) b) International Graduates (Quota reached) c) French Speaking (Unlimited): •E ssential Health Care and NonHealth Care Workers • I nternational Graduates The temporary residents are still trying best to be eligible for the first category

JULY 2021

1. You must have a valid temporary resident status in Canada. 2. You will need a minimum of CLB 4 (language proficiency test) score to be eligible for this public policy as an Essential Worker. 3. You must have worked in the listed essential occupations (refer www.cic.gc.ca for list of the qualifying occupations) for a minimum of 1560 hours in past 3 years. 4. You must be presently employed either full-time or part-time (irrespective of the NOC code) to be eligible to apply under this policy. 5. You must be able to provide enough evidence to substantiate the above listed requirements. The processing time for these applications have not yet been posted or announced by the IRCC but there are high chances that these applications will be finalized by the end of this year for the Canadian Government to reach their set target of 401,000 in 2021. Needless to say, the dire need to achieve set targets with these new public policies amid the pandemic, might likely to escalate cases for immigration fraud. For more updates, stay tuned. R. With longer days, blooming flowers of varied colours, chirping birds and light breezes, summer is one of the best seasons in a year. Basking in the warmth of the golden rays of the sun can give anyone’s mood an instant lift - it’s hard to stay upset or sad and people lighten up instead.

5 Reasons Why We Love Summer warmth.

3. More time outdoors From going on picnics and having barbeques to going fishing, summer is the best season to spend more time outdoors. Picnics are the perfect way of catching up with friends and family while the smell of burgers, steaks and hot dogs is one of the best summer experiences. It’s also the best time to gorge on food as

hile there are several reasons to love this wonderful time of the year, here are five top reasons why we love summer . 1. Summer vacations The onset of summer is an exciting time for children and students everywhere as it also sets the stage for summer vacations. WIth no schools, homework or exams to spend countless hours studying and often burning the midnight oil, there’s plenty of free time with nothing to do. Summer vacation is the perfect time to be more laidback, catch up on some much-needed sleep, hobbies and reading. It’s also great to get together with friends and go on trips to popular holiday destinations. 2. Trips to the beach A trip to the beach is one of the best things to do in summer. Be it playing around in the warm waters of the sea, building sand castles, enjoying long walks barefoot on the sand or simply lying down on the sand and reading a book, beaches have something to offer to almost everyone. Summers and beaches are a perfect combination to let go, relax and enjoy the summer

eventually, you’ll burn it all off with the activities that you might take up. The weather is warm enough to go on hikes, bike rides, to camp outdoors and pursue various sports like basketball, football, volleyball and any other sport that’s a passion of yours. 4. Simpler dressing (and packing) options Flip flops, shorts, sundresses and loose cotton shirts are the ultimate comfort clothing. You’re no longer weighed down by heavy winter clothes or layers. Without the several layers of clothing required to keep yourself warm, getting ready doesn’t take forever. Same goes for packing to go to holiday destinations -- it’s simpler and lighter.

one of the simplest yet greatest pleasures of summer. From smoothies, fresh fruit juices to ice creams, there’s no dearth to the amount of soothing and cooling stuff that you can have in summers. It’s heavenly.

From nature to people, everywhere you see bright pops of colour, which instantly lifts spirits and makes life seem a lot less complicated. Long and bright sunny days simply can’t be beaten and have plenty of options to cheer up almost everyone. It’s also the time of the year that we spend most of our time outdoors -- automatically making us healthier and more active. These are all absolutely wonderful reasons why we love summer.

5 Best Makeup Looks For Summer glamorous. Shock shadow is one of the two 80’s makeup trends to have made a comeback.

s the sun starts making its way through the gloomy clouds, we all know it is time to bring out our best summer looks. All we can think right now is soaking in the summer sun and drinking iced tea all day long while wearing the trendiest makeup look of the season. Here are five best makeup looks for summer that will give you an everlasting sunkissed glow: 1. Shock shadow A favourite among celebrities like Lily Collins, shock shadow is all about using one bold colour to create an almost metallic shade over your eyelids. Keep applying your eyeshadow of choice until the colour turns opaque. The rest of your makeup can be your usual goto style of something

2. Pink blush and red lips Red lips have always been a classic and pairing them with pink blush on the cheeks makes them a perfect summer look. It is a very casual look but you can take it to the next level by adding a golden bronzer on top of the pink blush. Emma Stone donned this look at the LV Cruise by Louis Vitton in New York City on May 9, 2019 and she looks just as fresh as a lily.

and slightly unpolished but very hot and sensuous at the same time. The inspiration behind creating the look was a wet look after your swim. If you don’t like putting on too much makeup, you can experiment with the barelythere bronze look. We can’t wait to try all these makeup looks this summer. Which ones are you planning to try?

3. Sparkle all over the face Who doesn’t love sparkles? Honestly, we aren’t surprised that the late 90’s trend is back. Body glitter and glimmer has become a way for millennials to express their happiness and personality. You can rock a full-face glitter make-up because glitter products are available in different colours, textures, and shimmers. Mandy Moore and Gigi Hadid wore the look at recent events and looked fabulous. 4. Dewy makeup with red lips All you need are red lips, dewy skin, and bold eyebrows to make a fashionable statement this summer. The key is to give your red lips a hint of sheen to make the whole make-up look fresh. Experiment with different shades of red including brick-red, orange-red, or bluered and try on a full glam look. 5. Barely-there bronze You would have seen celebrities including Kim Kardashian West and her sister Kourtney Kardashian rock the barely-there bronze look several times during their outings. It looks natural
