Welcoming the Holiday Season

ou may have heard people, companies or advertisers talk about the ‘holiday season’. If so, you might be wondering exactly what ‘holiday season’ means. Don’t people take vacations all year round? And aren’t there public holidays at different times during the year? The answer to both these questions is yes, but ‘holiday season’ is a North American term that refers to the period from Thanksgiving until the New Year. This covers many of the most important holidays in American culture when most people in the USA and Canada are likely to travel back to their hometown or take time off to spend time with their family. In the UK and in other Englishspeaking countries, you are more likely to hear people talk about the “festive season”, which covers the build up to Christmas until the start of the New Year, or the “Christmas holidays”, which is the week lasting from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day. Many businesses in the UK close completely during this time and employees take the whole time off as holiday. So, let’s look at which holidays take place during the ‘holiday

season’. Hanukkah Hanukkah (also called the Festival of Lights) is an important Jewish holiday that lasts for eight days and nights. The exact start date changes each year, but it always falls in November or December. In the 2nd Century BC, the Jewish people fought back against the Seleucid Empire that had taken over much of the Middle East and made Judaism illegal. Hanukkah is all about the moment that the Jewish fighters took back the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and were able to practise their religion again. Today, Jews all

As it is across the globe, December 25th is the official holiday in Canada, with many Canadians also taking time off on the afternoon of the 24th (Christmas Eve) as well as Boxing Day, wic is celebrated on the very next day. If you’re looking for a bar or restaurant for a good holiday meal, a hotel is a good bet. In Christianity, this is the day that Jesus Christ was born, and it is the most popular Christian holiday in the Western world. In the Bible, wise men brought special gifts to the baby Jesus and traditionally, a figure called Father Christmas / Santa Claus / St. Nicholas (depending on which country you are in) is thought to bring presents to children around the world on Christmas Eve. Today, many people celebrate the festival by having a big meal with their family and giving presents to each other. This is celebrated by most people in Western countries, even if they are not Christian or religious.

Boxing Day On December 26th, Canadians shake off their food comas and hit the malls for Boxing Day, the biggest shopping day of the year, where stores slash prices to attract holiday shoppers. Boxing Day takes place on December 26. Only celebrated in a few countries, the holiday originated in the United Kingdom during the Middle Ages. It was the day when the alms box, collection boxes for the poor often kept in churches, were opened and their content distributed, a tradition that still happens in some areas. It was also the day servants were traditionally given the day off to

Boxing Day has now become a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, among other countries. In England, soccer matches, and horse races often take place on Boxing Day. The Irish people refer to the holiday as St. Stephen’s Day, and they have their own tradition called hunting the wren, in which boys fasten a fake wren to a pole and parade it through town. The Bahamas celebrate Boxing Day with a street parade and festival called Junkanoo. New Year’s Eve This is the last night of the old year and the beginning of the new one! Many people have big parties with friends or family, at home or at bars and clubs. Everyone stops to count down to the start of the new year and it is a tradition at several places to drink champagne and kiss people around you at midnight. Many people also make New Year’s Resolutions, which are a list of things that they will try to do or stop doing in the coming year. For example, start going to the gym, or stop smoking. Six ways to keep exercising in winter

xercising during the winter can actually burn more calories than when you exercise in summer. Your endurance can also be increased during winter because the heart needs to work less you also sweat less making your workout more efficient. Himalayan Siddha Grand Master Akshar shares 6 ways that you can exercise and keep up with your fitness game even during cold winter days. Walking/ Running/ Jogging: Start your exercise routine with a brisk walk or maybe you could take a jog or run around your neighbourhood block. These are cardiovascular activities that pump up your heart rate and get you ready both mentally and physically for your upcoming workout session. Stretching: After your jog or run make sure that you spend a few minutes on stretching. Experts recommend that you stretch before and after your workout as this readies your muscles keep them safe from injury and also effectively improves your chance

During winter techniques such as Kapalbhati Pranayama and Khand Pranayama are suggested for you. Meditation techniques: There are many meditation techniques that you can practice regularly such as Sthiti Dhyan, Swaas Dhyan, Aarambh Dhyan etc. Here is a simple and powerful meditation

Formation 1. Sit down in any comfortable posture 2. Join your palms in front of your chest to form Pranam Mudra 3. Straighten your back and close your eyes 4. Frame and repeat positive affirmations aloud or silently Relaxation: End your workout session with complete mindbody relaxation in the form of Anandasana. Relaxing the body is as important as exercising as this gives your body the chance to rest, recover and recoup. Formation of the Posture: 1. Lie down in a prone position on a comfortable surface or on your yoga mat. 2. Close your eyes. 3. Let your legs relax completely

and place them at a distance that is comfortably apart. 4. Let your ankles drop, and keep your toes are facing sideward. 5. Place your arms alongside your body and slightly apart. Make sure your palms are lying open to the sky and facing upwards. 6. Starting from your toes, bring your attention to every area of your body. Use deep breaths to lull your body into a deep state of relaxation. 7. Maintain awareness so you do not fall asleep in the process. 8. To recover from the posture, gently roll to one side (right) with your eyes closed. Slowly push the floor to come 9. up and sit in Sukhasana. Anandasana can be done after you complete your physical practice, and when you are tired, it helps to completely relax your body. This pose requires you to concentrate and focus on your breath. The thin line between

depression and feeling depressed

These days everywhere you look, you spot people talking about things not going right or how they feel stressed and “depressed”. Depression has hit society in the worst way ever - right from adults to kids being impacted by it at different intensities. Research shows that 1 in every 5 people goes through depression or mental health issues in any given year.

B

efore we understand what depression is, let’s clarify at the outset what it isn’t. Depression is not feeling sad or feeling depressed momentarily. Unknowingly, we stereotypically portray depression as sadness with the extensive usage of the word. Dr. Chandni Tugnait, a psychotherapist, life and business coach, and founder-director of Gateway of Healing says, depression is not being unhappy; it is not anger, fear or loneliness - it is none of these individually and yet it is all of these and much more. Depression is being numb. It is nothingness. It is exhausting. It takes away all motivation and leaves a feeling of hopelessness. There is a lack of energy - it’s more like a void where nothing grows or changes, where time does not exist, where there is nothing and no one. Of course, it is difficult for the person trying to cope with it as well as for the people around them. Sometimes depression is chronic and evident but a lot of times one isn’t aware of it and sometimes one is even able to camouflage it in the garb of routine & forced positivity - this last type, by the way, is the worst as sometimes we lose them to suicide - just like that - no warning, no sign, as per Dr. Tugnait. The line between clinical depression and feeling depressed is quite fragile and often we find inappropriate self-diagnosis in this regard. Clinical depression is accompanied by a feeling of impending doom without any reason, every day, for over two weeks continuously along with fatigue, loss of interest, insomnia, etc. However, one may feel depressed for a while due to a difficult event like losing a job/

loved one, etc. and may confuse it for depression and begin to pop pills. It’s important to be aware of the difference - the ability to get up and fight back against these feelings, instead of accepting them or thinking that they will simply go away on their own or never go away. The deeper the roots of depression, the more time it takes for a person to heal. It keeps a person in the loop of being low and makes them self-damaging. The symptoms could range from crying all day to being unable to get up from the bed to work, bathe, or even eat. Then there are the happy and high functioning depressed people who have smiling depression. A high functioning depressed person appears energetic, carefree, and cheery on the outside, most of the time and people close to them never get to know that on the inside they are being sucked into a black hole. Strangely, they would go out of their way to keep others happy, masking their own sadness. When alone, they cry, contemplate suicide, and feel exhausted from all the pretending. Why do they pretend? Well, it’s

funny that each time we ask someone, “How are you?”, we are looking at “I am fine, thank you” as the response because if someone starts sharing how they really are, we are quick to tell them not to sulk or look at the bright side. Sharing and sulking are two different things. The fear of being judged is deeply ingrained in our beings and hence it seems like a better proposition to endure the depression in silence than to voice it out. Contrary to what most people feel, you can’t lose depression simply by ‘looking at the bright side’. You may be able to camouflage your feelings to save others from getting bothered (or to save yourself from the guilt of it all) but this is plain masking and not copying or healing. People suffering from depression can’t “cheer up” and that adds to more frustration. ACCEPTANCE - Accept self and others (with or without depression) without asking for a change. This is the first step in healing. You can’t change something if you resist it as the resistance keeps the energy flowing in that same direction that you wish to alter. Haven’t you fought enough already? Let’s change the dynamics and accept it, to release it. COMPASSION - Choose compassion. Choose the wholeness of being instead of viewing yourself as someone who needs ‘fixing’. ROUTINE - Fix a morning routine to take time to feel gratitude, meditate, read a few pages of a book while sipping tea, exercise, write a journal, sleep for 7-8 hours daily and take a cold shower. SEEK SUPPORT - Ask for help and seek professional support from a therapist in case the situation is extreme despite the self-help, positive lifestyles changes and support from family and friends. There’s no shame in seeking help to be healthy! Everyone should be more accepting of mental health issues without any judgments. Take the leap of faith when you feel ready. Until then, just breathe! You can either spritz a mild toner on your face or take a small amount on a cotton pad and swipe it all over the face. A good toner tightens pores over regular use and lends an enviable glow to your skin. Exfoliation: Using an exfoliator once or twice a week will help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin looking brighter. If you have sensitive skin, a very gentle exfoliation such as a lower percentage glycolic acid would be best suited. aving arrived here four years back, in 2018, with nothing more than a suitcase of personal belongings and a flickering of hope, he set about making a life for himself in the country of his dreams, Canada, in Beautiful British Columbia. He soon realized just hope nor dream was good enough, he had to somehow slowly but surely turn his dream into a reality! However, his corporate dream in India had been fully realized in an esteemed position of VP of a software multinational company, that to, at a very young age of 29, leading a group of professionals, some even older to him. But in Canada, the success back home, did not count for much, he had to find a way to do it all over again. To make a decent living and a good life for himself! “That’s the fun I feel for my craft you see because when I kind of work in a film that challenges me as an artiste that is what drives me. That is what makes me kind of excited about going back on set and trying to deliver something I don’t think I will be able to do it unless or until I reach the set. Fun Facts on Daily Dog Behaviour continued In last month’s article, we discussed a few fun facts on daily dog behavior that you may notice regularly with your furry companion. These behaviours included the explanations of why your dog cocks his head to one side during high pitched sounds; why and when they sneeze; why they circle in an area before resting; and what it means for them to relieve themselves near their humans. In this month’s article, we will continue to discuss more common behaviors seen in canines. You may notice that your puppy or adult dog show moments of feeling extremely hyper and not being able to catch their breath while aimlessly running around. These moments are sometimes referred to as ‘Zoomies’. These bursts of excitement are only exhibited in happy and healthy canines. In scientific terms, Zoomies are known as ‘FRAPS’, which stand for ‘Frenetic Random Activity Periods’. These periods of energy can be due to the need for relieving stress, build up energy or trying to handle excitement and play. Another quirky behaviour seen is when dogs will take their toys, treats or food offered to them and carry

them to another area or their bed to indulge in these items separately, away from others. This behaviour is very interesting in that it can hold a meaning of a few different reasons behind this action. One reason is

that they simply do not like metal bowls in which their food or treats are being given and wish to eat the offerings out of it. You may notice this especially when your dog refuses to eat his food in his steel bowl, but instead prefers to eat it on the floor or hand-fed. Another simple reason is that your dog possibly may not enjoy eating his food alone. This can be seen if your dog brings his food or treats near to where you are eating already. A gesture to share a meal with you and to not feel lonely. Last, but not least, a third possible reason is that your dog wishes to protect or hide his food. This is a sign of being protective or territorial. If you feel that your dog may be displaying such signs, then it is important to consult your local veterinarian for tips on improving this unwanted behavior. You may notice that your dog often comes up to you and leans against your leg while you are standing or sitting. This action is a completely harmless and devoted sign of love towards their owner. This expression of affection is a way of them trying to get as close as possible as they can to you. It is a way for them to ask for affection in return during the moment. Since dogs are aware that they cannot physically hug you, leaning against you is the closest way they can achieve of giving a hug in their terms. You may notice your dog scooting their rear end against the grass, carpet, floor or bedding at times. This action is one that indicates that veterinarian consult might be needed as soon as you notice this behavior.

This indicates that there may be an issue involving the anal sacs of the dog. These glands can become clogged or injured due to many different reasons, which then lead to the action of scooting against a hard surface. How to win an argument without losing the relationship “Don’t raise your voice, improve your argument.” -Desmond Tutu

A

lthough winning an argument is not an easy task and it consumes one’s tremendous amount of energy and time. However, an argument can certainly be taken into our favour when addressed using specific strategies. As a result of this, relationships can be saved as well. First of all, it is as essential to have evidence in favour of our argument as it is to have contrary evidence against your partner’s argument. Along with addressing these pieces of evidence, we need to make sure that we have outlined all the pros for our argument and cons for their argument. This will help our partner weigh the negative and positive outcomes of each argument and encourage them in the direction that has the most benefits and least risks, which we aim to be our argument side. It is crucial to make sure that when we use this strategy, we have to be very calm and patient with our partner, rather than loud and hottempered. The more positive and understanding the environment

surrounding the couple, the more likely your opposite partner will be able to view things from your perspective and will likely agree with your opinion. Second, while arguing, it is essential to respect your partner by giving them time to process the thoughts that you have just presented to them. For example, if you are rushing and constantly talking one after another, they

will certainly feel overweight and targeted. This will make the entire situation worse. Thirdly, it is essential to converse with your partner in a manner and attitude that you have always been doing in a daily routine. Otherwise, if you suddenly start calling out their names due to anger, and you have previously never done that, it might make them feel as if they were talking

to a stranger and will be less likely to comply with your thoughts. In the future, if you realize you are mistaken in the middle of an argument, acknowledge your mistake without wasting time. In future arguments or conversations, your companion will take you more seriously. It is also a respectable thing to do, and they will appreciate your humble gesture. They will respect you and may even support your side if you persuade them. Instead of allowing your emotions to cloud your judgment and compel you to create the worst scene, please take a moment to assess whether it is the right time and place to have a volcano meltdown. Tuning to the present moment by focusing on your senses can be a great strategy. The senses can contribute to a person’s sense of being rooted. When you are not standing, even concentrating on your toes might help you centre yourself. However, the best and most universally accepted strategy would be to wait until you are both alone before having the conversation. Guidelines on international arrivals in India issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare

he global trajectory of COVID-19 pandemic continues to decline with certain regional variations. The need to monitor the continuously changing nature of virus and evolution of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) must remain in focus. The existing guidelines for international arrivals in India have been formulated taking a risk-based approach. The existing guidelines have been revised in view of reporting of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.1.529; named Omicron) which has been now classified as Variant of Concern by the World Health Organization. The flow chart given on the right side provides protocols to be complied with international travellers as well those to be followed by airlines, points of entry (airports, seaports, and land border) for risk profiling of passengers.

This Standard Operating Procedure shall be valid w.e.f. 1st December 2021 till further orders. Based on the risk assessment, the ­­­­­­­­­­guidelines shall be reviewed from time to time.

rom the time the trailer of ‘Bob Biswas’ dropped, while the fans are excited to watch Abhishek Bachchan as a contract killer, there is a different kind of curiosity around the film over its casting.

The film is written by Sujoy, and directed by Diya Annapurna Ghosh This is the first time the fans will get to see Abhishek in a never-seenbefore avatar in which his look is almost unrecognisable as a semibald and overweight middle-aged man.

The film is a spin-off to the earlier ‘Kahaani’ released in 2012, in which Bob’s character was portrayed by Saswata Chatterjee. Despite being a Bengali actor without having any presence in Hindi film before, the character and the performance of Saswata were so appreciated by the audience nationwide, it was only natural to expect him to see as ‘Bob Biswas’, as the face of the character. However, the news of Abhishek will be playing the title role of ‘Bob Biswas’ surfaced in 2019. Talking about why Abhishek is cast, writer Sujoy Ghosh told IANS: “It was a very conscious decision of casting a new actor to play Bob Biswas because I wanted to move away from ‘Kahaani’, this is not that film. The world of this film is different. This is a new film, which has its own standing.

Steve Burton fired from ‘General Hospital’ for ‘no vax’ stance

‘General Hospital’ star Steve Burton has confirmed on Instagram the rumours that he was fired from the long-running soap opera because he would not get vaccinated against Covid-19. “I wanted you to hear it from me personally.” he said, reports variety.com. He added: “Unfortunately, ‘General Hospital’ has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me.” Burton then went on to express gratitude to the show, where he’s played Jason Morgan on and off since 1991. He said: “Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor.”

On Monday, Variety reported that it appeared that Burton might have been fired from the show because of this issue. The vaccine mandate for Zone A at ‘General Hospital’, which comprises those present on set when the actors aren’t wearing masks, and the actors themselves went into effect on November 1. Actor Ingo Rademacher, whose Instagram is full of vaccine misinformation and propaganda, loudly refused to comply with the vaccine mandate.

After Burton’s post on Instagram, the channel confirmed that his departure was because of his noncompliance with the show’s vaccine mandate. Burton’s ouster had been rumoured in the ‘General Hospital’ fandom for weeks. He had tested positive for Covid in mid-August, saying he’d been “exposed at work”. During that time, the infighting at the show about Covid protocols spilled into the public, and resulted in the vaccine mandate. Of the four daytime dramas remaining on the networks, ‘General Hospital’, which is owned by ABC, is the only one that has instituted a vaccine mandate. ‘Days of Our Lives’, and ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ continue to rely on testing, social distancing and other CDC-recommended guidelines for their on-set protocols. Recasting popular characters on soap operas and dead characters coming back to life are endemic to the genre. olic is frequent, prolonged and intense crying or fussiness in a healthy infant. Colic can be particularly frustrating for parents because the baby’s distress occurs for no apparent reason and no amount of consoling seems to bring any relief. These episodes often occur in the evening, when parents themselves are often tired Episodes of colic usually peak when an infant is about 6 weeks old and decline significantly after 3 to 4 months of age. While the excessive crying will resolve with time, managing colic adds significant stress to caring for your newborn child. Symptoms Fussing and crying are normal for infants, especially during the first three months. And the range for what is normal crying is difficult to pin down. In general, colic is defined as crying for three or more hours a day, three or more days a week, for three or more weeks. Features of colic may include the following: 4 Intense crying that may seem more like screaming or an expression of pain 4 Crying for no apparent reason, unlike crying to express hunger or the need for a diaper change 4 Extreme fussiness even after crying has diminished 4 Predictable timing, with episodes often occurring in the evening 4 Facial discoloring, such as reddening of the face or paler skin around the mouth 4 Bodily tension, such as pulled up or stiffened legs, stiffened arms, clenched fists, arched back, or tense abdomen 4 Sometimes there is relief in symptoms after the infant passes gas or has a bowel movement. Gas is likely the result of swallowed air during prolonged crying. Causes The cause of colic is unknown. It may result from numerous contributing factors. While a number of causes have been explored, it’s difficult for researchers to account for all the important features, such as why it usually begins late in the first month of life, how it varies among infants, why it happens at certain times of day and why it resolves on its own in time.

Possible contributing factors that have been explored include: 4 Digestive system that isn’t fully developed 4 Imbalance of healthy bacteria in the digestive tract 4 Food allergies or intolerances 4 Overfeeding, underfeeding or infrequent burping 4 Early form of childhood migraine 4 Family stress or anxiety Complications Colic does not cause short-term or long-term medical problems for a child. Colic is stressful for parents. Research has shown an association between colic and the following problems with parent well-being: 4 Increased risk of postpartum depression in mothers 4 Early cessation of breast-feeding 4 Feelings of guilt, exhaustion, helplessness or anger Diagnosis Your baby’s doctor will do a complete physical exam to identify any possible causes for your baby’s distress. The exam will include: 4 Measuring your baby’s height, weight and head circumference 4 Listening to the heart, lungs and abdominal sounds 4 Examining the limbs, fingers, toes, eyes, ears and genitals 4 Assessing reaction to touch or movement 4 Looking for signs of rash, inflammation, or other signs of infection or allergies Treatment The primary goals are to soothe the child as much as possible with a variety of interventions and ensure that parents have the support they need to cope.

Parent self-care

You may find it helpful to have a plan, a list of soothing strategies you can try. You may need to experiment. Some may work better than others, and some may work one time but not another. Soothing strategies may include:

Caring for an infant who has colic can be exhausting and stressful, even for experienced parents. The following strategies can help you take care of yourself and get the support you need:

4 Using a pacifier 4 Taking your infant for a car ride or on a walk in a stroller 4 Walking around with or rocking your baby 4 Swaddling your baby in a blanket 4 Giving your baby a warm bath 4 Rubbing your infant’s tummy or placing your baby on the tummy for a back rub 4 Playing an audio of heartbeats or quiet, soothing sounds 4 Providing white noise by running a white noise machine, a vacuum cleaner or clothes drier in a nearby room 4 Dimming the lights and limiting other visual stimulation Trial changes in diet If soothing or feeding practices aren’t reducing crying or irritability, your doctor may recommend a short-term trial of dietary changes. If your baby has a food allergy, however, there would likely be other signs and symptoms, such as a rash, wheezing, vomiting or diarrhea. Dietary changes may include: Formula changes. If you feed your infant formula, your doctor may suggest a one-week trial of an extensive hydrolysate formula (Similac Alimentum, Nutramigen, Pregestimil, others) that has proteins broken down into smaller sizes. Maternal diet. If you’re breastfeeding, you may try a diet without common food allergens, such as dairy, eggs, nuts and wheat. You may also try eliminating potentially irritating foods, such as cabbage, onions or caffeinated beverages.

Take a break. Take turns with your spouse or partner, or ask a friend to take over for a while. Give yourself an opportunity to get out of the house if possible. Use the crib for short breaks. It’s OK to put your baby in the crib for a while during a crying episode if you need to collect yourself or calm your own nerves. Express your feelings. It’s normal for parents in this situation to feel helpless, depressed, guilty or angry. Share your feelings with family members, friends and your child’s doctor. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t measure your success as a parent by how much your baby cries. Colic isn’t a result of poor parenting, and inconsolable crying isn’t a sign of your baby rejecting you. Take care of your health. Eat healthy foods. Make time for exercise, such as a brisk daily walk. If you can, sleep when the baby sleeps — even during the day. Avoid alcohol and other drugs. Remember that it’s temporary. Colic episodes often improve after age 3 to 4 months. Have a rescue plan. If possible make a plan with a friend or relative to step in when you’re overwhelmed. If necessary, contact your doctor, a local crisis intervention service or a mental health help line for additional support. Recent studies show Biogaia (Probiotics) are helpful. Bunty Aur Babli 2’: A family entertainer that’s short on novelty Director: Varun V. Sharma. Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh, Pankaj Tripathi, Yashpal Sharma and Asrani. IANS Rating: ***1/2 ‘Old wine in a new bottle’ is how one can sum up ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ in one phrase. The second part of the immensely popular 2005 movie, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, is a frothy comedy with its share of light-hearted moments, but it is essentially a rehash of the earlier film and does not score high on either originality or novelty. Except for the introduction of the new Bunty (Siddhant Chaturvedi) and Babli (Sharvari Wagh), there is not much newness that this film offers. The new duo, who are engineering students, are jaded and let down by the system. They are on the prowl and succeed in their kind of con games with ease. Sometimes, sending sex-starved men in a private charter to a non-existing country named Virgin Republic and at other times, giving out the River Ganga on lease to the mayor of the city, the modus operandi remains the same, only the situations change.

over the top. Siddhant Chaturvedi has a strong screen presence and adds chutzpah to his character with his suave demeanour. He is a delight to watch. Sharvari Wagh too contributes ably and essays her character confidently and with conviction. Pankaj Tripathi sleepwalks through his role as there is a sense of déjà vu seeing him in a UP set-up and in uniform.

Vexed by their success, Police Inspector Jatayu (Pankaj Tripathi), who is gunning for a promotion, hires the original Bunty (Saif Ali Khan) and Babli, (Rani Mukerji) to nab the new con duo. Rakesh Trivedi (Saif Ali Khan) and Vimmi Trivedi (Rani Mukherji) are now settled in domestic bliss at Fursatganj, UP, where he works as a ticket collector in the Railways, and she is a housewife and mother to Pappi, their son. How the original twosome chip in to trap the new Bunty and Babli by delving into their minds forms the crux of this film. Some of the situations offer elements of humour, but are mostly oft-seen and repetitive. The dialogues are somewhat funny with a forced attempt at humour. The weak writing is what does the film in, as the characters appear cardboard-thin and unidimensional.

Prem Chopra, Brijendra Kale and Asrani, all competent actors, are wasted in small and insignificant roles. The child artiste playing Rakesh and Vimmi’s son shows a lot of promise and is confident, way beyond his age.

The situational comedy too appears trite and fails to evoke laughter. With no exciting twists or turns in the plot, or even an engrossing climax, the film fails to deliver excitement in any form.

The numbers are disappointing, and despite ‘Tatoowaliye’ and Arijit Singh’s ‘Love Ju’ being catchy, they are not lyrical and worth humming. Overall, ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ falls short of one’s expectations and seems like a feeble attempt at recreating the first film.
