A

amir Khan quit social media a day after his birthday on March 15, setting off wild theories on social media and the media.

Superstar Aamir Khan has opened up about quitting social media, saying people ought to stop extending theories over why he did so.

“Do not put your theories about me quitting social media. Main apni dhunki mein rehta hoon (I live by my will), and above all where am I on social media? I thought to myself that as it is I don’t share anything, so I decided to quit,” said Aamir. Asked how fans would interact with him now, Aamir replied: “We used to communicate before social media as well, and now with me quitting social media I think workload and responsibility of the media has increased as I will be interacting with the audience via the media. So, I think media should be happy. I trust the media completely.” Aamir was speaking at a promotional event of the film “Koi Jaane Na”, which is directed by his friend Amin Hajee, best known for his role of the drummer Baagha in “Lagaan”. Hajee’s film, starring Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur, has a special dance number featuring Aamir with

I’d just watched the movie for the first time today and he has made a really good movie. The movie is quite entertaining, it doesn’t let you take a break. There is thrill, romance, and the songs are really good

and actors are really good,” said Aamir. Aamir is currently busy filming his next release, “Laal Singh Chaddha”. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan and is a remake of the Hollywood hit “Forrest Gump”. Source: IANS

3 main benefits of acupuncture in dealing with work stress

D

Krishna Jeeja

(CEO MJ Physio)

ealing with the demanding tasks at work can become overwhelming. Whether you have to report to your physical office or accomplish tasks from home, it can disrupt your peace of mind and even lead to physical complications, such as lower back pain and stiff neck. Fortunately, you can seek help from your local physiotherapy experts and get acupuncture. But how exactly does it address stress-related issues? This article will discuss the three main benefits of acupuncture in overcoming work stress and its many connected physical and psychological problems. Take this as an opportunity to ensure you have healthy ways of coping with life’s daily challenges. This way, you can avoid being too affected by your job, take a much-needed break, and feel ready to achieve your professional goals.

1. Addresses bad posture by targeting the painful areas of your body Many working professionals like you often deny that they are at fault for having bad posture. When accomplishing your deliverables, you may reduce your weight and take other steps to correct your posture. But in reality, you can tend to forget things and adopt bad practices, whether you are actively moving around in the office or have a desk job. And remember, the body deteriorates as you age, meaning you can unknowingly fall back into negative habits. With acupuncture, you can address the pain at its root. It unlocks your body’s healthy blood flow and natural breathing rhythm. As a result, you can feel the pain gradually going away. You will also feel more capable of moving your arms and legs, giving you the ability to continue your active lifestyle. All the negative emotions associated with these muscle tensions will also disappear, allowing you to feel more relaxed.

2. Bolsters immune system and can enhance mental clarity When you are stressed, do you notice that your body is more susceptible to common colds, coughwww.entertainmentmagazine.ca

ing, and fatigue? These can be signs that your anxiety towards work is now manifesting negatively on your immune system. It can also lead you to become more disoriented as you experience headaches, muscle tension, chills, and even mental health issues if you don’t do something about this. Going to your local physiotherapy clinic for acupuncture and other services is an effective solution that can help address these issues. It can even help your body feel more relaxed, which can help you get better sleep and become more well-rested during the morning. As a result, you can boost your natural immune system and have a positive, empowering mindset regarding work!

3. Can provide relief for digestive issues When you are under stress, you may tend to either binge on food or starve yourself. These two extremes can be emotionally charged, but they can also be linked to stomach problems. For instance, you can feel your belly hurt even if you just ate, leading you to indulge in more food. Acupuncture can help release the tension in the gastrointestinal region. It regulates the natural flow of nutrients, which can help you process meals better. It allows you to feel more at peace as you adhere to your healthy diet and look for more productive avenues to address stress and its related issues.

Conclusion Work stress is tough to deal with, but it can be manageable with a few acupuncture sessions. You just need to ensure you are cared for by experienced professionals to help you unlock the healthy benefits of different physiotherapy approaches. Remember all the previously mentioned benefits and handle your stressors today! Are you looking for the best physiotherapists in Vancouver to do your next acupuncture session? Visit us at MJ Physio! Shilpa, who is currently judging the music reality show “Indian Idol”, opened up when contestants Nihal and Sayali performed the songs “Aye mere humsafar”, “Kitabein bahut si”, Chura ke dil mera” from the film on the show. “Baazigar was my first movie and I was

When we were shooting for the song Ae mere Humsafar and I had to lip sync the lyrics, I was not getting it properly. Arjun Kapoor: I’ve been slapped yet again by Parineeti Chopra

A

ctor Arjun Kapoor has been slapped yet again by Parineeti Chopra! Strictly on screen, of course, and in their upcoming film “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar”, after their 2012 co-starrer “Ishaqzaade”. On a serious note, Arjun opens up on how Dibakar Banerjee’s upcoming film trains focus on violence against women. “Violence against women is taken seriously by someone like me who has grown up in an environment surrounded by women. I firmly believe when you are doing a character you have to step out of being your personal self and believe that you have signed up to play a character because people like that exist in society,” he told IANS. “Having said that Pinky (his character in the film) does not raise his hand on Sandeep (played by Parineeti Chopra). The physical violence that is there is circumstantial. It is more about helping one another and protecting one another. There is also a feeling of angst and frustration

that Sandeep feels towards Pinky, where she literally wants to cry and hit me and at the same time it is just me protecting myself in that sequence,” he added. Arjun says the situation is “real because that is what the director wanted”. “I have been slapped yet again by Parineeti like I was in ‘Ishaqzaade’ and that trend continues! But it was not pressuring because you have read a script and you have understood the demand of the character and circumstances, and it comes in a moment of emotional chaos in both their lives, so it is not like I am beating her up. I don’t think I would play a character like that,” he added. “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar” is set to release theatrically on March 19. He knows the Covid situation is not altogether normal for the audience to wholly return, but he is optimistic. He said the film has been ready, and therefore “we must help our theatres and find audiences to come back and enjoy the filmwatching experience”. Source: IANS

AVOID THESE MISTAKES WHILE INVESTING FOR YOUR CHILD need to utilize these grants for maximum permissible benefit.

Sandeep Ahuja

W

e, as parents remain concerned about the bright future of our children, and we want to ensure that they receive the best education. To fulfil our dreams for our children, it’s vital that we invest for them wisely, and should avoid certain mistakes as discussed below:

Delaying the investment RESP is a great investment opportunity which enables you to save for the education of your child. It would be better if without any delay, you start investing early as it will give your investment the maximum time to grow.

Improper utilization of the available grant funds We are indeed lucky to be in the wonderful nation Canada where the government understands the importance of healthy growth of children, and it generously supports parents in this endeavour by providing them a tax-free Universal child care benefit. The maximum Canada child benefit you could get is $6,765 per year for children under 6, and $5,708 per year for children aged 6 to 17. Your Canada child benefit is based on your family income from the previous year, the number of children in your care, and the age of your children (source: Government of Canada, Jan. 27, 2020). Parents can very effectively utilize this financial benefit by investing it in RESP. To further support parents in this savings initiative, for an annual deposit of $2500 in their child’s RESP, the government of Canada deposits $500 into this RESP account with a lifetime maximum limit of $7200. Besides, it provides catch-up provisions to parents who are unable to deposit the maximum amount in any given year. Along with that, an additional amount of CESG is available for eligible children from middle- and low-income families. You www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Ill- informed decisions about investmentfollowing the ‘herd behaviour’ Exercise prudence while deciding about the RESP product and company. Instead of simply following the celebrity endorsements or investments recommended by friends; be careful before you choose the investment.

Lack of understanding about how an investment works Before you make any decision, it is very important to do a thorough research about available investments as it ensures that you: 4understand the risks associated with the investment, including the potential losses or returns; 4consider how it fits in your existing portfolio; and, 4know the amount of fees/ any penalties for early withdrawal that you will pay

Avoiding shopping around for an advisor As a first time investor, we feel inclined to approach the same advisor who is being consulted by our parents, friends or relatives. But here, it is important to understand that the advisor that’s right for someone else may not be right for you. You need to choose the advisor as per your needs, the type of clients he/she works with and how involved you want to be in your investing decisions.

Improper Attention to Fees You need to understand the fees you pay when you invest as they reduce your return. Before making an investment, ask questions and evaluate the available options. For instance, two investments may carry similar risk and expected return, but one may have higher fees – all else being equal, the fees would affect your returns.

Michelle Obama excited about Viola Davis portraying her in new series Michelle Obama has given actress Viola Davis her stamp of approval, after it was reported that the latter will portray the ex-First Lady of America in a limited series titled “The First Lady”. “I feel that I’m not worthy. I wish I could be better to live up to the character that Viola has to play, but it’s exciting,” said Obama, 57, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Anything Viola does, she does it with passion and vigour, and I know she will do no less for this role,” she added. The show will see the Oscar-winning actress opposite actor O-T Fagbenle, who will be playing former President Barack Obama in the series. Angelina Jolie files ‘proof’ of domestic abuse claim against Brad Pitt

A

ctress-filmmaker Angelina Jolie has filed papers as evidence in the court in support of domestic abuse allegations against her former husband, actor-filmmaker Brad Pitt. The 45-year-old actress has filed documents in the court that indicate she and her children are willing to offer “proof and authority in support” of their claims against Pitt. Jolie has agreed to provide testimony, along with the “testimony of minor children”, a report in US Weekly said. “If Angelina has more documentation to prove domestic violence towards her or the children, she can submit it as a supplemental offer to prove in trial,” an American family law expert told the publication. “She can say these are the documentation in addition to what she already presented. This could mean it’s a more recent instance

(of domestic violence), or further documentation related to what was presented before,” the expert added.

The report further stated that all six of the former couple’s kids -- Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, and Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12 -- could freely speak in court in their divorce hearings. Meanwhile, a source close to Pitt told US Weekly that the filing is nothing but an attempt to merely “hurt” the 57-year-old actor. “Over the past four and a half years there have been a number of claims made by Angelina that have been reviewed and not substantiated. The children have been used by Angelina to hurt Brad before and this is more of that behaviour. This leaking of documents by her fourth or fifth set of lawyers has been done to hurt Brad,” the source said. Source: IANS

World sleep awareness month: Why is sleep so important? Sleep is an important part of our daily routine -- we spend about one-third of our lives sleeping. Quality sleep -- and getting enough of it at the right times -- is as essential to survival as food and water, says Sibasish Dey, Head, Medical Affairs, Asia and Latin America, ResMed.

hormones, cortisol, and melatonin. Cortisol helps in the regulation of immune system activity whereas melatonin helps to fight tumour growth and promote DNA repair, leading to cancer protective effects. Sleep disorders have also been linked road traffic accidents and major industrial accidents globally. How can we sleep better?

Writes the sleep expert: Globally, studies have shown that sleep along with other benefits, helps in improving our learning and problem solving skills. Whereas sleep deficiency on the other hand alters neuro-cognitive process, and we may experience symptoms such as irritability, poor decision making, low problemsolving skills, depression, loss of memory, among others. Thus, this world sleep awareness month, let’s take a pledge to relook at our sleep schedules, maintain a healthy circadian rhythm and also increase conversations around the need for a healthy sleep hygiene as we cannot achieve optimal health without taking care of our sleep. Why are we sleep deprived? Barriers to a good sleep cycle may include a hectic lifestyle, long erratic working hours, and sleep disorders. Also, habits such as too much screen time, lack of physical activity, consumption of caffeine before bedtime and low exposure to sunlight may disrupt our sleep cycle. Underlying, sleep disorders are also causative of poor sleep. Insomnia is a widely known disorder, but obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is a form of sleep disordered breathing www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

is also a common sleep disorder. OSA is caused due to momentary stopping of breath due to muscle relaxation of neck muscles while sleeping and can lead to repeated micro-awakening during sleep -- thus disrupting sleep. Statistics have shown that around 28 million people suffer from sleep apnea in India, 80 per cent of whom are undiagnosed.

It is important to be in sync with our body’s natural sleep -- wake cycle. We must set aside 8 hours for regular sleep and try to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Exercise, exposure to sunlight are important to get good sleep. Pre-sleep activities such taking a warm bath and meditation also helps us sleep

well. In case of symptoms such as morning headaches, excessive daytime sleepiness, snoring, breathing pauses during sleep, unexplained fatigue, it is important to seek help of a sleep specialist. With the advent of digital technologies, sleep diagnosis is easily accessible in our bedrooms. One such test is OneSleepTest, which is one of its kind, safe, accurate, simple, and comprehensive home sleep test-kit being distributed by ResMed in India. Battling sleep issues with easy remedies and treatments is the first step we can take to manage the global problem of sleep deficiency. Sleep therapies can help in bringing us closer to living life to the fullest. By: Siddhi Jain

What are the consequences of a disordered sleep cycle? The cumulative effects of a long period of sleep loss and sleep disorders have been linked to deleterious health consequences, including an impact on our cognitive functions, cardio-metabolic diseases, obesity, impaired immunity, etc. OSA impairs glucose metabolism and promotes weight gain, which puts us at the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Individuals with OSA are at a higher risk of stroke and irregular heart beats. Hence, quite often OSA management goes handin-hand along with cardiovascular medications in individuals who have had a history of cardiac disease. Kidney ailments in children: Junk food and obesity are key

risk factors

I

t’s often hard for children to resist eating junk foods. Consuming anything in excessive quantities is always harmful to health. Junk food is high in calories and contains unhealthy fats that can lead to obesity and high sugar levels.

As our kidneys are highly responsive to increased sugar and cholesterol levels, consuming junk food in excessive quantities can lead to obesity and increase the load on the kidneys. A study reveals that a diet mostly dependent on processed and junk food may trigger diabetes and cause damage to kidneys in the long run, said Dr Sundeep Guleria, Senior Consultant, Renal Transplant Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi. “With the current sedentary lifestyle, exercises and physical activities often miss out on children’s daily routine. Consuming unhealthy and fatty food with no exercise and burning extra calories is the worst combination for your child’s health,” said the doctor.

Kidney Ailments in Children The biggest problem of suffering from kidney disease is that it majorly goes undetected. By the time symptoms start showing in the body, almost 50-60 percent of the damage is already done. Though chronic kidney disease is uncommon in children with the kind of lifestyle they are living today, the risk of catching kidney ailments is on a significant rise, he said. “Kidneys work as a body’s waste collector and disposal system. Small microscopic units called nephrons help to remove toxins and wastes from the kidneys and absorb excess water from the food eaten. In this process, the kidney returns the essential chemicals like sodium, phosphorous, and potassium in the bloodstream, and the extra wastewater left, gets combined with other wastes to be flushed out from the body.

20

APRIL 2021

“As a healthy functioning kidney is very important for a fit body, obesity and high blood sugar levels are gradually becoming a reason in children for catching kidney ailments at an early age. Kidneys are not only sensitive to obesity and blood sugar levels, but also to the treatment given to treat any recurring ailments. Moreover, medication increases the toxins in the bloodstream and hence kidneys have to work with greater efficiencies to flush them out.

The expert lists down major symptoms of the kidney related problems: 4 Swelling around the face, feet, and ankles. 4Fever 4 Burning sensation or pain during peeing 4 Increase in the frequency of urination

4 Difficulty in controlling the urination in kids of significant age 4 Blood in urine 4 High blood pressure 4 Nighttime bedwetting in kids On suspecting a kidney-related problem, a doctor might ask for the medical history, order some blood or urine tests, do a physical examination or conduct a biopsy in some cases. Urinalysis is a type of urine test that can help in detecting abnormalities in urine, as urine-related problems are a major symptom of kidney ailments, it can help the doctors in examining a kidney problem better. The doctor suggests that with a rising number of kidney ailments in children, pediatric nephrologists are playing a major part in the healthcare system. To keep away from any kidney-related ailment at a young age, children should avoid eating unhealthy and junk food. Instead, parents should introduce healthy and nutritious food to their children’s diet. At the end of the day importance of protein-rich food and exercising regularly is hidden by none. So help maintain your children a healthy life by offering a rich diet and getting them ready to lead a disease-free life. Source: IANS

ark circles and puffy eyes, no matter how hard you try to avoid them, they can sometimes creep up when you least expect it. The most obvious reason is lack of sleep. That said, sometimes, it has a lot to do with one’s diet or lifestyle. Eating salty food can cause water retention and lead to puffiness. While conscious efforts can help, if you want to get rid of them stat, these few simple tips and tricks can go a long way.

Raw potato slices

Green or black tea

Try using sliced potatoes in place of cucumbers. They stay cool longer and contain an astringent that helps remove the water from under the eyes. You can also make a finely ground potato poultice by grating raw potato and placing it in a few layers of cheesecloth. Place them over the eyes and reap the benefits.

Milk

Whole milk is most commonly used, but soy milk works too. Dip a cotton

Tea bags are another popular home remedy. Green and black tea contains caffeine that can constrict the tiny blood vessels in the skin around the eyes. Caffeinated tea also contains tannins that stimulate blood circulation. To make it work, place two tea bags in a mug of hot water. Remove and let the tea bags cool to room temperature and place on eyes for 15-30 minutes. Doing this once or twice a week can help tighten the skin under the eyes, as well as provide soothing benefits.

Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea doesn’t have caffeine, but it does have significant anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It is used to treat maladies all over the body, so no surprise that it also revives tired, puffy eyes and reduces redness. It can also provide relief for conjunctivitis and pink eye.

Happy Couples: How to Keep Your Relationship Healthy?

L

ove is the foundation of every relationship but it takes more to keep it healthy. To make your relationship last and keep it healthy and strong, both partners should put in equal efforts. There are going to arguments and disagreements but you should be able to solve them without biting each other’s heads off. Here are eight ways to your relationship healthy and become a happy couple:

1. Learn to accept and appreciate It is in human nature to make mistakes. You cannot expect yourself or your partner to be the best version of themselves at all times. If your partner is being wrong, use gentle words and constructive criticism to tell it to them. Make sure to tell them that you are always there whenever they need you.

2. Stay playful The secret to a long-lasting relationship is doing fun things together. Take your partner to the movies or drive across town to a new restaurant. If you are feeling defensive about something your partner said, reply using a joke instead of some rude words. Physical affection is important in every relationship. It doesn’t mean you have start making love every change you get. Give random kisses, hold hands, and give hugs as it releases feel good hormones and keeps the two of you close.

3. Give your partner personal space Humans want closeness but they also want their own space. Cuddle up on some mornings but on other days, get on with your schedule, so neither of you feel pricked.

4. Use the AAA plan The AAA plan by Mira Kirshenbaum, author of The Weekend Marriage, stands for apology, affection, and a promise of action. If you hurt your partner, apologise to them before matters get worse, show affection like a kiss or a hug, and promise that you won’t repeat the mistake.

5. Start a tradition Every couple has a tradition, which shows that they are interested in keeping the relationship alive. Go www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

on dates on Saturday night, plan a weekend trip once every three months, take birthday trips, and plan random surprises to show your affection. Both partners should put in equal efforts as it develops a sense of understanding between a two.

6. Always be supportive If your partner is starting a new business or taking up on a new habit, encourage and support them. The key is to believe in your partner and provide guidance in every way possible. If your partner is working over time, help with the dishes, put the children to bed, and give them a nice massage in the night.

7. Show vulnerability You don’t have to be strong all the time in front of your partner. Showing vulnerability strengthens emotional intimacy between the two of you and helps to understand each other’s strengths, weaknesses, fears, and phobias. Don’t shy away from asking for help whether it is helping with work or coping up with stress. Never miss an opportunity to show how much you love them. Bring them flowers, favorite ice cream, or take them to random dinners at their favorite restaurant.

Balochistan: In the Crosshairs of History

T

he year began on a subdued note with the assassination of journalist and activist Karima Baloch, one of Balochistan’s few, fiery and brilliant women freedom fighters. Her dead body was found in a lake in Toronto, Canada. The death is strongly alleged to be that of the Pakistani deep state. It, however, did not ignite international passions as the farmers’ protests in democratic India did, for example. Yet, this was not a one-off assassination. It was part of a broader pattern of continuous death, destruction and dispossession of an entire community by the very state that is meant to protect and ensure their rights. Just in September another Baloch female journalist was killed, her perpetrators went scot-free. According to the Human Rights Council of Balochistan 18 murders and 28 people were forcibly disappeared in Pakistan’s Balochistan province in September alone. The Voice of Baloch Missing Persons states that between 2002 and September 2018, at least 6,428 persons were forcibly abducted by security agencies. Prominent Baloch tribal leaders have been assassinated, forcing yet others to seek asylum abroad. Yet, Balochistan rarely makes it to the headlines in the international media. This is what makes Balochistan: In the Cross-Hairs of History by veteran journalist Sandhya Jain a timely intervention. Jain, in great details, traces the history of Balochistan’s merger and inclusion in the state of Pakistan. Those who believe Jammu and Kashmir’s merger with India is disputed, will find Balochistan’s association with Pakistan even more tenuous. The province is strategically located: at the crossroads of Afghanistan, Iran and the Gulf, at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz. In a cloak and dagger game, machinations of the British (for whom securing the province was essential to controlling the Gulf), the Muslim League, and its leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah, together with Baloch tribes jostling for power, the Khan of Kalat finds himself outwitted, and the territories which comprise Balochistan province today ceded to Pakistan. Thus, for instance, when Ahmed Yar Khan, the last Khan of Kalat, under tremendous pressure from Jinnah

latest ongoing round of insurgency breaking out in 2004. The Pakistani state and army have used high handed measures to quell it, which includes among other things, death squads. Unsurprisingly, the people of Balochistan have opposed Chinese and other foreign investments into the province to develop the strategic Gwadar port, part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor -- the flagship project of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as no local stakeholder is involved. to sign the instrument of accession, when he only wanted to sign “an agreement on defence, foreign affairs and communications” summoned the Dar-ul-Awam to deliberate on the matter, it “voted unanimously for independence”. From there follows a familiar pattern, seen in the earlier history of East Pakistan (and which ultimately decided it’s destiny as Bangladesh), in that of Pakistan occupied Kashmir, Northwest Frontier Province (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) -- the steady depletion of the natural resources of these provinces, the dispossession of it’s populace, the erosion of local autonomy, the negligence of development, suppression of ethnic identity and culture, demographic changes and the brutal crushing of any dissent or opposition. According to the UNDP, 71 per cent of the population in Balochistan live

below the poverty line, second only to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the country’s poverty index. This should never have been the case. Afterall, Balochistan is a resource rich province, with natural gas, and mineral deposits including coal, chromites, barytes, sulphur, marble, iron ore, quartzite, uranium, limestone and 95 per cent of the world’s asbestos. Jain points out that 40 of the 50 minerals being mined in Pakistan currently are from Balochistan. Nevertheless, the province continued to languish in neglect and development, even as Baloch people alleged “internal colonization by Pakistan’s demographically, politically and economically dominant province of Punjab”. Thus, while gas from Balochistan’s Sui gas fields reached Punjab in 1964, Quetta cantonment received gas only in 1982. Never having acquiesced to its merger with Pakistan, the Baloch have rebelled periodically, with the

Jain points out that at the agreement signing ceremony over which then President Musharraf and Chinese premier Wu Bangguo presided in 2002, no Baloch representative was present. Consequently, the insurgency has also begun targetting Chinese interests and representatives in the province. The Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and the ensuing jihad and civil war in that country has further exacerbated the agony of the province with an influx of refugees and arms adding to the economic duress, violence and chaos, while the drug trade of landlocked Afghanistan has introduced “drug economy” to the province. Today South Asia stands at a cusp of major geo-political changes. There is the ascendancy of the Taliban in Afghanistan, US and NATO troops will soon be withdrawing from the region, the CPEC runs through Balochistan and other disputed territories, China, Pakistan, and Turkey have entered into a close alliance, each with its own view of exceptionalism, political Islam is gaining in currency, the problem of Balochistan acquires greater salience. Rich in data culled from numerous sources with an extensive bibliography Jain has done a yeoman’s service. A detailed work, the volume also delves into Baloch ethnicity, language, and culture. This is probably the author’s greatest achievement -- she has not dealt with the subject through the prism of India-Pakistan rivalry. Given the paucity of literature on Balochistan and research on it being few and far inbetween this volume becomes a go-to book for a range of stakeholders and hopefully will further evoke interest in and awareness of such a critical a subject. Fashion tips on how to embrace your curves

I

t’s time for all of us to make a resolution to not fall prey to body figure stereotyping and make it all about self-love. Not trying to hide behind frumpy clothes that do you no justice is one way to do that. Finding out and understanding your body type is something to be thankful for, however making it a stereotype is not. So all the apple body-shaped woman, pear body-shaped and also the full-sized hourglass body-shaped ladies, stop being used to the embarrassing yourself, rather start embracing yourself! With numerous brands breaking the beauty taboo with real-body campaigns and policies we celebrate every woman with perfection.

If you are curvy, it is important to dress according to your size. Say goodbye to every oversized clothes and slide into the outfits with the right fit that will hide your problem areas and highlight the right angles of your frame. Styling from top to bottom can bring a vast change in your look. Have a look at some great style tips for real girls who felt too voluptuous to wear certain items, and we’re here to blow those myths right out of the water.

LINES AND SHAPES You need your first impression to be fab-worthy, and it is all about your lines and shapes that draw the eye.

One great trick is to wear monochrome ensembles. This makes the viewer’s eye move up to down, or vice versa, forming one uninterrupted line, which makes you look tall and slim. If you’re looking to enhance those curves, then opt for a bodycon dress in the right fabric like jersey. You can also wear ensembles that have lines narrowing at the waist and spreading away at the bust and the hips. The lines can be in the form of a print, stitches, pleats, etc. A dress with a plunging V-neck and a cinched waist which then flairs out below, also gives the illusion of an hourglass figure.

THE RULE OF THE HEM Knowing where hems or

borders should be on your body can help you lengthen the frame. A knee-length skirt, for example, should sit just right under the knee, never around the biggest part of the calf. The hem of the jeans should be at the ankle, or (even better) an inch or two below. If you are not of average height, buy your clothes, specifically the bottoms from a retailer that gives you perfect length options. Well, hems can be tricky sometimes but the best thing is to not to have a clue about it and find a tailor with a good eye, trust them and learn as you go.

SAY ‘NO’ TO OVERSIZED CLOTHES Just beanpoles look great in larger than the average dress size! Don’t add volume to your body by wearing oversized dresses. Instead, pick the clothes that are body-skimming (not too tight) and show your curvy side. Say no to a giant t-shirt, but a maxi or kaftans that skim the

curves and have some belt at the waist is cool. If you want an easy profile, or if you got your favourite graphic on a tee or tunic then pair it with tighter trousers or jeans and make it to your advantage.

MIND THE SHOES It’s always a head-to-toe thing and what you put on your feet that matters. Pointy tips and low heels can make you look slim, whether you are pairing it with a skirt or a pair of pants. Try to find a shoe with a vamp the ends at the top of your toes, other than halfway around. Shoe styles with low vamps include ballet flats and pumps. High-vamp shoes include Mary Janes and loafers.

VOTE FOR LAYERS Contrary to stereotypes, layering doesn’t necessarily add volume. Instead, it sometimes gives your body a definition. Wearing a tank top with a pretty cardigan instead of one-piece dress or T-shirt can help to underline your shape. Ensure though that you don’t layer with bulky garments.

EMBRACE YOUR HIGH WAIST High-waisted pants are your companion. They help tuck in folds and fat and minimize muffin tops since they end at the slimmest part of the waist. Ensure they’re long, finishing at the lower leg or underneath, following the rule of the hemline.Dress to make yourself feel good, and you will make heads turn! Source: Femina

In simple terms, one can refer to this condition as Dog Dementia as well. Yes, this is similar to the condition that we can see in humans, as they also age with time.

will first appear to be of a mild state; however, they will progress with time and unfortunately worsen and become more severe. This process is known as ‘Cognitive Decline’. The signs of this condition are anxi-

ety, restlessness, not wishing to play anymore, slow to learn new training, disorientation, decreased grooming, confusion, forgetting previous training, no control over urinating or defecating, sleep patterns altered, decreased appetite, excessive licking, frustration and barking. According to statistics, it is seen that at least one out of every three dogs that are over the age of ten will display at least one sign of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. If you feel that your dog may be showing any of these signs, then your veterinarian can perform a full physical examination. He or she will also need a full history of when the symptom(s) initially presented themselves, in order to conduct a proper diagnosis of this condition. Other diagnostic measures may also be performed in order to rule out any other underlying causes for such exhibiting signs. Canines that are diagnosed with Dog Dementia will then begin a long-term treatment of supportive care for this condition. Such care will consist of improving your dog’s living environment and health in order to maintain an ideal condition for improvement. This will allow the Cognitive Decline

28

APRIL 2021

to be delayed and not progress as quickly otherwise. Changes in exercise routine, playing time and also training, or needing to train again, will be introduced as well. Other adjustments that can be made to facilitate a dog with this condition is to provide night lights for your canine companion to navigate throughout the house easier in the dark. Place training pads near your dog so that there is a place for him or her to use the washroom in case of an emergency, where they cannot control their urination or bowel movement. Certain medications or behavioural treatments may also be advised by your veterinarian based on the individual case of your pet. Diet is also a key component to managing a better lifestyle. Certain supplements can also be added to the diet regiment in order to help with your dog’s cognitive function. Such as: Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Carotenoids, Flavonoids, Omega-3 and Carnitine. Follow-up appointments with your veterinarian may be needed regularly.

Reason behind back pain in women and how to overcome it

D

r Neha Narula, QI Spine Clinic explains why women are more prone to back pain and how to take charge. Whether you’re a working woman or a housewife, massive workloads and long working hours, take a toll on your body. Your spinal cord, which is the pillar of your body, will be the most affected- back pain being one of the leading symptoms. Women of different age groups experience back pain for reasons ranging from gradual wear and tear of bone and muscles to hormone level fluctuation, menstruation, pregnancy, and degenerative diseases at an advanced age. “Back pain can be debilitating and life-changing. Home remedies such as hot and cold compress and pain killers only delay the right treatment. The pain usually returns after a short while,” said Dr Neha Narula, Senior Spine Specialist, QI Spine Clinic. “If you have a back pain that is recurrent in nature or doesn’t improve even after taking rest, consult a spine specialist before it’s too late,” she added. Women of different age groups suffer from back pain for different reasons. Following are some causes and tips to help overcome it:

If you’re in your 20’s In order to avoid developing back pain at a young age, it is important to maintain the right posture. Avoid slouching, sitting in one place for a long period of time, limit the use of gadgets, especially mobile phones. Use laptop stands and ergonomic furniture if you have to work for long hours. Tips: Warm up before exercising, utilise the right techniques while working out, avoid high heels and tight clothes, and don’t carry overweight backpacks- pack them using the right technique.

If you’re in your 30’s Bone degeneration starts in your 30’s. It is a normal biological process but improving the back muscles to prevent axial overload can delay the process. Tips: Maintain the right posture while sitting, standing, bending (while picking up things or children) or lifting weights. Take care of your spine during pregnancy. Bone resorption (calcium homeostasis) in lactating women results in bone loss- your basic nutriwww.entertainmentmagazine.ca

tion should include calcium-rich food. Engage in pre-natal and post-natal exercise to strengthen the back muscles. Strengthen your core muscles like abdomen muscles and glutes.

If you’re in your 40’s, 50’s and 60’s After menopause, the rate of bone degeneration increases. This leads to a loss in bone mass (osteoporosis). Your back muscles weaken, increasing pressure on your spine, causing nerve impingement, the narrowing of the spinal canal (stenosis) or bone fuse. Other common conditions include disc protrusion and the development of bone spurs. Tips: Exercise to build muscle strength so that your spine can carry your body weight better. Take food and health supplements to compensate for bone mass loss. If you have back pain, check with your doctor. “Women’s sex hormone- estrogen, plays a significant role in causing musculoskeletal degenerative diseases. Lack of it accelerates bone degeneration, post menopause for which women experience lower back pain more often.” – Dr Neha Narula, Senior Spine Specialist, QI Spine Clinic. Courtsey:MID DAY

Take the 7-day

self care challenge

S

elf care is the most understated kind of affection you can bestow upon yourself, and it is important to practice it often and as much as possible. To grow, heal, mature, nourish, and thrive, it is important to step back from your fast paced and exhausting life and give yourself the well deserved time off to replenish. To be the best version of yourself requires you to practice self care on an everyday basis, and there is no better time to cultivate this habit than right now. Take the 7-day self care challenge and practice the following simple behaviours to care for your physical and mental wellbeing. 1. GIve yourself one goal to accomplish Give yourself one small task to complete at the end of the day; this may be to water the plants or change the sheets- something you can do for no reward other than the satisfaction of doing it. Complete the task, and then take a minute to tell yourself

32

APRIL 2021

you have done a great job, because you have. 2. Dress up and play nice Wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual, or pick out your outfit the night before; wear the fancy pair of shoes you reserve for special occasions, or take some extra time doing your hair. Give yourself just a few more minutes than usual to dress in a way that makes you feel beautiful and spoilt. Remember to look great for yourself, so you feel great. 3. Go for a jog, or just walk Move that body; exercise and get your heart pumping. Go for a jog at the park nearby or just take a walk to appreciate the flowers and trees and sky. Being outdoors is always refreshing for our minds that are generally contained within brick and mortar the whole day. If you get some sunlight, bonus point to you! 4. Meditate for just 5 Take no more than 5 minutes

out, anytime you like- when you wake up or before you go to bed, and meditate. This does not have to be yoga or guided meditation with an app. Simply sit back for five minutes to recount everything you’ve done throughout the day and what is on your mind. 5. Fix your sleep cycle No matter how tempting it may be to watch another episode in the night or hit snooze the next morning, choose to make the healthier choice by sleeping at the right time and then getting eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. 6. Don’t just drink water, hydrate The two sips of water when you are parched are not enough, you need to hydrate properly. Keep track of how much fluid you are consuming through the course of the day. Keep a water bottle next to you at the desk, and take a sip every time you see it. 7. Organise the space

around you Take a minute to fold the laundry, organise the papers on your desk, and put your essentials in the drawer after you are done using them. Disorganised and cluttered spaces around us are often the reason we cannot focus and our mind keeps on getting distracted, so clean up and allow yourself some mental peace. Are you ready to care for yourself? Making plans is one thing, living up to them is another. While it can be hard to be consistent, if you remind yourself of the reward at the end, you can keep going. If you can win the 7-day self care challenge, you can win at life by becoming your own best friend and being truly self reliant and self sufficient. A Girl in a Whirl

Continued from issue (Part 48)

I began pondering over Sukhmani sahib. Aad guray nameh, Jugad guray nameh “Aad means ‘the beginning’ and that line means ‘salute to the Lord who was there at the beginning’. When did this world start? When did the time start? I thought harder. I had read in my childhood that once the earth was a ball of fire. How long did it take to cool down? Then, how were plants and animals born? Who was born first – man or woman? How were they born without each other?”, my thoughts were taking me very far away. Jugad means the end and that means salute to the Lord who will be there at the end. The end of ‘time’ was never to come. If it was there, it was beyond my comprehension. Our fifth master, Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji had paid regards to the Lord at the beginning and the same Lord who would be at the end. I continued reading. Prabh ke simran garabh na baseh means if we pray to god, we don’t have to take rebirths any more. Is it true?”, I pondered over

34

APRIL 2021

it. There could be only two things. Either it is true or it is untrue. If I take it untrue, I would be utterly baffled why all that was happening to me. It’s quite possible that I may have brain haemorrhage. And if I believe it is true, I will feel, by praying to god, that some divine power is always with me. I would never feel alone anywhere. What harm am I going to have from it? None! What will I gain from it? It would give me peace of mind that god, I may call him Waheguru, Ram, Allah or Jesus; He is always to be felt with me everywhere. What good have I done to myself by worrying so much? My life is terribly miserable, lord! I’m a complete loser. I surrender myself entirely before you. Please save me my lord. Waheguru! Waheguru! Waheguru!” Tears began streaming down my eyes while contemplating all this. Cravings to see my beloved lord had woken up in my heart. My earlier crying and those were entirely different. Earlier I felt sad while crying. That day, I was feeling a strange comfort in my cries. I read Sukhmani Sahib

yearning for my lord’s love and blessings. Then I prayed for all my family members and welfare of everyone in the world. I was feeling a spiritual comfort and strength to move ahead in my life. I started reading gurbani even with more devotion. I felt I had developed more tolerance for my problems. Amrit had booked my air ticket for India one week before my Interview date. I started doing everything more carefully and lovingly. I downloaded many holy songs on my cell phone. I loved one holy song from Barah Maha that sache marag chaldeyan ustat kare jahan (The whole world praises you if you follow the path of truth). I started pondering over this. What was the path of truth? Was I following that? My pondering got stuck on this line.

T

here is a common misconception that we all seem to have when it comes to toners. We feel that they are needed only during the warmer parts of the year. For this reason, most of us skip using toners in winter, out of fear of it drying out our skin. But the fact is that toning plays an important role to keep your skin healthy. But before we go deeper into the benefits, let’s take a look at the basics:

Everything

you need to know about skin toners

What is a skin toner and why does our skin need it? In a nutshell, a toner looks like water and acts like it, but it’s not water. Good toners are packed with so much more than hydrogen and oxygen. Depending on the toner, it could also contain acids, glycerin, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories, points out Dolly Kumar, Cosmetic Engineer and Founder & Director at Cosmic Nutracos Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the parent company to skin care brand Skinella.

She suggests how to use skin toner during winter

If you want to get technical, a toner is a fast-penetrating liquid that delivers skin a quick hit of hydration and helps remove dead cells off the surface of the skin. The result is plump and glowing skin, she says. “It removes any remaining traces of dirt, grime, and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. When added to your daily skincare routine and used regularly, it can have a major positive impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores. Toners also restore your skin’s pH level, smoothen your skin by refining rough patches, and improve skin tone.

and improve uneven skin texture. This keeps your skin soft and bouncy. 4 Balancing the pH of your skin: Our skin’s pH balance can get out of whack after cleansing due to the alkaline nature of some soaps. When this happens, the skin needs to work overtime to return to its normal levels. This is where a toner can help by restoring this balance quickly. 4 Deep hydration: If your skin is dehydrated, it can appear flaky, dull, and dry. Using a toner can give you smooth, radiant, and evenly toned skin. 4 Prevents pores from clogging: Applying toner to a soft cotton ball or pad and gently blotting and wiping your skin can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing.

They also help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing. It reduces the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin.”

Benefits of toner during winters, Kumar lists down 4 Improves skin texture: Toners prevent moisture loss, have the ability to naturally soothe the skin,

4 Start by cleaning your face with a face wash suited for your skin type. 4 Choose one that’s free of harsh detergents and opt for products made with natural ingredients like superfoods. 4 A 2-in-1 Pomegranate and Tomato toner would be a great choice instead of using toners with harsh chemicals. 4 Then, dampen a cotton ball with the toner and apply it to your face. 4 Allow it to dry. 4 Always follow up with a moisturizer that suits your skin type.

How to Choose Summer Dresses for Your Body Type? How often have you absolutely fallen in love with a dress, only to try and on and be disappointed by how it looked on you? That sort of frustration isn’t something you need to grapple with every time you go shopping. With the temperatures soaring, it’s time to dazzle everyone with the perfect summer dress that helps you beat the heat while staying fashionable.

Ritika Tiwari Freelance Writer/ Blogger/ Content Strategist

I

n our summer dress guide, we’ve listed the best summer dresses for your body type. So take a look at how to choose the right summer dress for your body type.

Body type: Apple

When your body type is like an apple, your top half is bigger than the bottom half and as a result, you might have a large chest and stomach but small hips. It’s also the body type when your shoulders are broad and you don’t have a well-defined waistline. The problem is finding dresses that are flattering to this body type. Most dresses that fit well around your shoulders tend to hang loose over your waist and hips. They emphasize your lack of a welldefined waistline and make you seem broader than you actually are. While shopping for summer dresses, look for the ones that draw attention to your neckline such as V-neck dresses or dresses with plunging necklines. Aline dresses and dresses with voluminous skirts also do a great job of slimming your upper body www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

and drawing the focus to your legs. Other flattering summer dresses include wrap dresses and dresses with wide belts.

Body type: Pear

A pear body type is when your bottom half is bigger than your top half and as a result, you might have a small chest and slim waist, but wide hips. It’s the body type where your shoulders are smaller than your hips. Opt for dresses that draw attention to the top half of your body, especially your slim waist. Avoid straight cut summer dresses and balloon dresses. Instead, look for dresses that accentuate your chest and waist. Off-the-shoulder dresses, A-line dresses, belted dresses and wrap dresses are the best choices for this body type.

Body type: Hourglass

The envy of almost every woman worldwide, an hourglass shape is when both the top and the bottom halves of your body are well-proportioned with a well-defined waist. The body type is considered curvy and while several women consider it to be ideal, dressing this body type isn’t always easy.

create a waistline such as A-line dresses, belted dresses and shirt dresses that highlight your narrow waist and show off your toned legs while adding a feminine appeal to your outfit. To find your dream summer dress, you need to truly understand your

body and the way it’s built. Once you know your body type, it’s relatively easy to pick a dress flattering to your silhouette. Everyone is built differently and with this guide, you will be able to pick the right summer dress for your body.

Avoid loose-fitting and flowy dresses as they don’t do much to accentuate your curvy figure. Instead, opt for dresses that highlight your narrow waist, your chest and your curvy hips. Wrap dresses, fit and flare, bodycon dresses and belted dresses are perfect for showing off your best assets. Any summer dress with a scoop, sweetheart, halter or V neckline also plays into your strengths.

Body type: Straight

A straight or rectangular body type is when there is no significant difference between the size of your hips, waist and shoulders. While this body type is waiflike and resembles the build of a supermodel, finding summer dresses that make you look feminine is a challenge. Since lack of curves is a major drawback, look for dresses that create the illusion of curves or accentuate your waistline. Opt for strapless or plunging necklines (with the right push up bra) to make your chest look fuller. Choose summer dresses that APRIL 2021

trum of cuisines it has to offer. While gorging on the world cuisines, don’t forget to try the South African Bunny Chow. Bunny Chow is the Big Mac of South Africa. It’s a delicious treat unique to Durban that dates back to the 1940s, and your trip wouldn’t be

complete without sampling it. Interestingly, the Bunny Chow has Indian origins! The dish consists of a hollowedout loaf of white bread filled with meat or vegetable curry. By N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

FAMILY REUNIFICATION It would be appropriate to say that Canadian Immigration is very welcoming when it comes to people migrating from different parts of the world. Is Canadian Immigration doing good enough to reunite the family members of Canadians or Permanent Residents outside Canada?

B

efore the pandemic, the quota decided by the IRCC for the family class applicants was around 91,000 annually. However, the IRCC could not achieve this target last year due to the rising concerns about the Global Pandemic. The numbers showed significant growth during 2015-2018 especially in 2017 when IRCC raised the age bracket of a dependant child to 21. Not only this, the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) have also been through significant changes over the past few years, from the first come first served method to the lottery system. This is another topic of debate as to which method is better because some of the Canadians/PRs favor one while some favour the other. The draw for the PGP is conducted once in every 12 months and there are so many Canadians/PRs who are left disappointed after the certain number of invitations are issued as they must wait for another 12 months. However, the Parents and Grandparents Super visa applications are another great alternative to reunite with the family members but unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pan-

42

APRIL 2021

demic, the processing of these applications have been delayed to a great extent. In this period of uncertainty, the government is making every effort to keep the Canadians/PRs motivated about reuniting with their immediate family members, be it approval of authorization letters to travel to Canada temporary to meet immediate or extended family members or be it family class applicants migrating permanently to Canada to live with their family members. Recently, on March 5, 2021 the IRCC announced the expansion of the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia in order to accelerate the processing of family class applications. The news released by IRCC this month announced hiring of 62 new employees by IRCC and more additional space so that the processing time of family class applications can be reduced. This certainly validates the fact that the government is doing everything it can, to support the Canadians to reunite with their family members. Stay Tuned for more updates. R. Migraine: Symptoms, diagnosis, treatment & more Attack

Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji

MD,FRCP ( C ) Consultant Pediatrician Surrery BC

A

migraine can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It’s often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with your daily activities.

Symptoms Migraines, which often begin in childhood, adolescence or early adulthood, can progress through four stages: prodrome, aura, attack and post-drome. Not everyone who has migraines goes through all stages.

Prodrome One or two days before a migraine, you might notice subtle changes that warn of an upcoming migraine, including: 4 Constipation 4 Mood changes, from depression to euphoria 4Food cravings 4Neck stiffness 4Increased thirst and urination 4Frequent yawning

Aura For some people, aura might occur before or during migraines. Auras are reversible symptoms of the nervous system. They’re usually visual, but can also include other disturbances. Each symptom usually begins gradually, builds up over several minutes and lasts for 20 to 60 minutes.

Examples of migraine aura include: 4 Visual phenomena, such as seeing various shapes, bright spots or flashes of light 4Vision loss 4 Pins and needles sensations in an arm or leg 4 Weakness or numbness in the face or one side of the body 4Difficulty speaking 4Hearing noises or music 4 Uncontrollable jerking or other movements

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

A migraine usually lasts from four to 72 hours if untreated. How often migraines occur varies from person to person. Migraines might occur rarely or strike several times a month.

During a migraine, you might have: 4 Pain usually on one side of your head, but often on both sides 4Pain that throbs or pulses 4 Sensitivity to light, sound, and sometimes smell and touch 4Nausea and vomiting

Post-drome After a migraine attack, you might feel drained, confused and washed out for up to a day. Some people report feeling elated. Sudden head movement might bring on the pain again briefly.

Causes Though migraine causes aren’t fully understood, genetics and environmental factors appear to play a role. Changes in the brainstem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve, a major pain pathway, might be involved. So might imbalances in brain chemicals — including serotonin, which helps regulate pain in your nervous system. Researchers are studying the role of serotonin in migraines. Other neurotransmitters play a role in the pain of migraine, including calcitonin generelated peptide (CGRP).

Migraine triggers There are a number of migraine triggers, including: Hormonal changes in women. Fluctuations in estrogen, such as before or during menstrual periods, pregnancy and menopause, seem to trigger headaches in many women.
Hormonal medications, such as oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, also can worsen migraines. Some women, however, find their migraines occurring less often when taking these medications. Drinks. These include alcohol, especially wine, and too much caffeine, such as coffee. Stress. Stress at work or home can cause migraines. Sensory stimuli. Bright lights and sun glare can induce migraines, as can loud sounds. Strong smells — including perfume, paint thinner, secondhand smoke and others — trigger migraines in some people. Sleep changes. Missing sleep, getting too much sleep or jet lag can trigger migraines in some people.

Physical factors. Intense physical exertion, including sexual activity, might provoke migraines. Weather changes. A change of weather or barometric pressure can prompt a migraine. Medications. Oral contraceptives and vasodilators, such as nitroglycerin, can aggravate migraines. Foods. Aged cheeses and salty and processed foods might trigger migraines. So might skipping meals or fasting. Food additives. These include the sweetener aspartame and the preservative monosodium glutamate (MSG), found in many foods.

Risk factors Several factors make you more prone to having migraines, including: Family history. If you have a family member with migraines, then you have a good chance of developing them too. Age. Migraines can begin at any age, though the first often occurs during adolescence. Migraines tend to peak during your 30s, and gradually become less severe and less frequent in the following decades. Sex. Women are three times more likely to have migraines. Hormonal changes. For women who have migraines, headaches might begin just before or shortly after onset of menstruation. They might also change during pregnancy or menopause. Migraines generally improve after menopause.

Diagnosis If you have migraines or a family history of migraines, a doctor trained in treating headaches (neurologist) will

likely diagnose migraines based on your medical history, symptoms, and a physical and neurological examination. If your condition is unusual, complex or suddenly becomes severe, tests to rule out other causes for your pain might include: MRI. An MRI scan uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of the brain and blood vessels. MRI scans help doctors diagnose tumors, strokes, bleeding in the brain, infections, and other brain and nervous system (neurological) conditions. CT scan. A CT scan uses a series of X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the brain. This helps doctors diagnose tumors, infections, brain damage, bleeding in the brain and other possible medical problems that may be causing headaches.

Treatment Migraine treatment is aimed at stopping symptoms and preventing future attacks. Many medications have been designed to treat migraines. Medications used to combat migraines fall into two broad categories: Pain-relieving medications. Also known as acute or abortive treatment, these types of drugs are taken during migraine attacks and are designed to stop symptoms. Preventive medications. These types of drugs are taken regularly, often daily, to reduce the severity or frequency of migraines. Contd. in next edition
