MESSAGE FROM INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT

2015 Division H Conference Dear District 20 leaders and guests: Division conferences are an amazing platform to fortifying the member experience and are a stepping stone toward understanding the organization. Take full advantage of it to meet leaders, get educated and – most importantly– have fun! Because after all, by participating, you control not only your experience but the experience of other attendees. Whether you are a first-timer or have been attending conferences for many years, what unites all attendees is their desire to have fun and take advantage of the experience. What amazes me still is that the conference experience is not just the result of the endless hard work of the organizing committee, although that plays a crucial part in making it successful; it is the collective enthusiasm and energy of every one attending, including you. I wish your division great success and all the members a fun-filled, exciting conference.

MESSAGE FROM PATRON

Passion, Perseverance, People DearToastmasters, It gives me immense pleasure to congratulate each and every one of you, for your achievements through the year. Year on year the Division sees greater achievements and greater accolades. This can only be possible because of the leadership elected year on year, which set newer standards and benchmarks for the Toastmasters community, in their collective drive towards excellence. The three mantras of success are: Passion, Perseverance and People well equipped with all the skills needed to get the job done. I truly believe that Toastmasters makes every member a success, because of the training built in to the system to ensure fulfillment of each of these points, from the various projects, to role playing, to participating in competitions and being part of a committee. To get returns on the investment you made in yourself by joining Toastmasters, you need to engage in each of these roles. It is important for each of you to share your personal success stories with us after joining Toastmasters. MESSAGE FROM PATRON

Intent, Integrity, Inspiration Have you come across a person, even insane, who lacks intent? All our actions are initiated with an intent, so as to achieve our goals. But are our actions going to be measured only by the results? Through the years, I have realized that our intents are also judged by our integrity- in the way we conduct ourselves while performing our actions. When an act having a noble intent is void of integrity, I would rate that action void too. “The end justifies the means” is an unjustifiable maxim. Our intuitions reflect our intents and integrity because intuition is the soil where intent germinates and grows on the strength of integrity. During my stint as the Chairman and CEO of Abu Dhabi Human Resources Group – Basharia, basics of human development had been the centre point of HR practitioners. Refined intents and goal setting, both by employees and HR Managers, had been the starting point for individual development plan for the employees. Our crux used to be on developing and evolving people with impeccable integrity. Each employee’s individual integrity collectively builds reliability of an organization and wins the trust of society. The long term sustainability and monumental growth of organizations is possible only on the strong foundation of integrity. My personal emphasize had been and is, on instilling a corporate culture of integrity for winning the heart of employees and inspiring them to deliver their best. If I could achieve this, my organization will flourish and have unbeatable competitive advantage. But, it is not easy to find individuals who would volunteer to express their noble intents, put efforts with unquestionable integrity and keep inspiring people around. When I learnt about Toastmasters, I had a strong intuition that this movement will be at the epicentre of generating great intent, integrity and inspiration for the society around. Thank you, Toastmasters for being the catalyst. I thank Toastmasters community for their love and respect, which I can only try to repay. I wish you a resounding success for your endeavour.

DIVISION H SOUVENIR 2015

MESSAGE FROM REGION ADVISOR

HIDDEN TREASURES Greetings members and leaders of Division H in District 20!

Since July 1st you have welcomed 3 new members to your Division H family –

Have you read the classic novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson? In the story, a young man finds a map in a dead pirate’s sea chest. With the help of trusted friends, he realises it is a treasure map showing the location of buried treasure. Together they set out on a daring adventure-filled journey to find the bounty. Eventually they discover the treasure and return home to enjoy their find.

Buraimi Hospital Toastmasters Club in January 2015, NPCC Toastmasters and WORLEYPARSONS in March 2015.

Isn’t the Toastmasters experience laden with buried treasure, just waiting for us to discover and then giving us the opportunity to celebrate our progress and success with our fellow adventurers? The Toastmasters program in all its fullness guides us through pathways of experiential learning, as we develop our leadership and communication skills, growing in confidence and competence with each step. When we members embrace the program, we are able to build sustainable exciting clubs capable of achieving much. In Division H, you have been working hard and realising many goals and ambitious achievements. You have managed a record achievement of Smedley awards, with 15 clubs achieving the goal. Similarly with Talk up Toastmasters you also have a record number of clubs (23) recruiting 5 or more members in the campaign period.

Nineteen clubs have achieved five or more goals in the Distinguished Club Program already, and others will follow their lead. Throughout your Division, many valuable items of treasure are being unearthed. Congratulations on all your bounty so far! In January 2015, on a visit to District 20, I came to Abu Dhabi for the first time and had the great pleasure of meeting your Division Governor and other esteemed past and current Division leaders. Their commitment to working towards a culture of excellence and achievement for all members, to raising leaders and creating opportunities for development was noteworthy. Clearly they have the treasure map and are putting it to good use. Our advancement and experience on the Toastmasters pathway are enhanced when we have the support and engagement of others. They can help us move more quickly, and share moments of enjoyment with us. In Toastmasters we train and equip our leaders so they can support each other taking on new challenges. The encouraging hand of a mentor can give us valuable guidance at just the right moment. As in all of

our activities, embracing the core values: respect, integrity, service and excellence, is important to underpin decision making. Toastmasters has much buried treasure. It is waiting for us to find it. Working towards educational goals, building and supporting new clubs, introducing others to our organisation, chairing Area, Division and District conferences, organizing events, developing others, Club and District leadership are opportunities open to all of us. Incredibly, as we face challenges, participate in opportunities we are picking up a map not just to show us the treasure in the task, but also to enable us to find the hidden treasure within ourselves. This is the most valuable treasure of all. I hope this conference will be a marvellous time for all of you to begin or to continue a treasure hunt and unveil the precious leader inside! Congratulations Division H on a most successful year, celebrate well!

“Find the hidden treasure within ourselves. This is the most valuable treasure of all.”

MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR

Yasser A. Sulaiman, ACS,CL District 20 Governor Toastmasters clubs are a beehive of activity where members truly experience the excitement and expand their experience. In Division H this year, members and leaders alike have been radiating amazing levels of energy and excitement this year. Division H has performed with clear vision, well defined goals and flawless teamwork, throughout the year. The excitement among leaders is very visible and they are now expanding that experience to a higher level.

It takes an incredible amount of time and effort to achieve the level Division H has attained during a short span this year. The excitement was such that it even crossed UAE national borders with the formation of the Buraimi Hospital Toastmasters club in Oman under Division H. With passion and commitment, Division H orchestrated the symphony of their triumph, by becoming the first President Distinguished Division in District 20 this year.

James Cash Penney said: Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.

MESSAGE FROM LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR EDUCATION & TRAINING

Sujit Sukumaran, DTM Lieutenant Governor Education & Training, District 20 Division H is the mother Division of Toastmasters in the UAE. It is in this Division that the Toastmasters movement in UAE started way back in 96-1995 and since then the Division has only grown from strength to strength. Today the Division boasts of a variety of strong clubs both comprising community and corporate and its initiatives are second to none! I thoroughly enjoy your PR updates, especially that of clubs like Millennium Toastmasters whose newsletters have provided inspiration and wonder at the international level itself, initiatives like the HPL club and committee by your Division Governor which is the first of its kind in

the region and the massive achievement in terms of the Education, Membership Contests and other awards. I must personally thank Division H for also being the highest contributor of presentations for the District›s 100 Days of Education Program. All these show the makings of a great District and the effort of a solid team whose fundamentals are extremely strong. Going forward, I am sure all of you will leave a great legacy and inspire those coming after you to carry the torch forward. Keep inspiring!

MESSAGE FROM LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR MARKETING

Saquib Raza Khan, DTM Lieutenant Governor Marketing, District 20

The Champion “Champions are not the ones who always win races - champions are the ones who get out there and try. And try harder the next time. And even harder the next time. ‘Champion’ is a state of mind. They are devoted. They compete to best themselves as much if not more than they compete to best others.” - Simon Sin

and live the rest of your life as a champion”

The mark of a great player is in his ability to come back. The great champions have all come back from defeat.

Toastmasters’ is a place ‘Where Leaders Are Made’ and we have seen many great leaders who have made a niche for themselves and built the legacy for us to carry forward.

I have always admired Sir Sergey Bubka, the Pole Vaulter. He repeatedly broke his own records and improved it every year, for 10 years of his athletic career. Similarly, there are many other athletes like Usain Bolt, who keeps breaking his own records and betters himself year after year and game after game. You don’t become a champion overnight. You need to work hard for it. You need to have the Goal, vision, Determination, Attitude and Practice, Practice, Practice. When someone asked a question to great boxer Muhammed Ali, how many push-ups he did, Ali responded… “I don’t count until I get the pain, my count starts only after the pain and I continue until the pain eases away.” No pain, No Gain. One more famous quote from Muhammed Ali is “I hated every minutes of the training, but I said to myself, Don’t Quit, suffer now

Truly, dear Leaders, we need to give our best now and we can create a LEGACY and retire as Champions. He who is not courageous enough in life will not achieve anything in life – Muhammed Ali.

The District, Division and Area are in our hands. It’s our responsibility. It’s TIME to build that Legacy and be the Champions …… Not merely in Leadership roles but also as Champion Communicators and better human beings… May the Best Champion WIN…

“He who is not courageous enough in life will not achieve anything in life.” – Muhammed Ali.

SUNIL KOTTARATHIL, DTM DIVISION H GOVERNOR

DIVISION H SOUVENIR 2015

MESSAGE FROM DIVISION GOVERNOR

VISION REALIZATION Dreams can become a reality when we possess a vision that is characterized by the willingness to work hard, a desire for excellence, and a belief in our right and our responsibility to be equal members of society-Janet Jackson

factors that play a major role in taking the vision to grassroots level. Division H therefore aptly selected the theme “Where Leaders Are Empowered” for the first Club Officers Training programs, to transmit that vision among the members.

As Division H celebrates their 10th Annual Division Conference on 24th April, reasons to rejoice are many– notably, Division H becoming the first Division in District 20, to reach ‘President’s Distinguished’ status, as early as the first week of April. This was possible only due to the collective efforts of all Area / Club leaders.

Specific, custom made, result oriented trainings to spread awareness, played a crucial role in empowerment of leaders. Toastmasters provide valuable guidelines and tools for club officers to get empowered. A record number of 15 clubs winning Smedley Award, the first membership building contest after assuming office, is a proof of clubs getting right lessons during COT sessions.

Setting the right vision, believing in it and keeping one’s eyes focused on it, can take one there. The vision should be both attainable and inspiring, so that others are motivated to get involved and help the team’s effort. At the beginning of current term, Division H developed a clear vision to serve the member clubs and to ensure their sustainable growth. It is the construction of the foundation that will stand the test of time. Sustainable growth can be ensured for a club by focusing at the grassroots level and reinforcing the basics. Thus a lot of thought was put into arriving at the Division’s motto for the year, “Bringing smiles on every member’s face by enhancing quality, through empowerment”. Only when a vision is communicated down to the grassroots level, and members embrace it whole heartedly, will it get carried forward, towards the desired results. True belief in the vision, commitment and an honest approach towards implementation are the key

Identifying key performance areas, providing specific training and continuous support, ensured the growth of clubs during the second quarter. Education, Marketing and Public Relations were the key growth areas under focus. The results were phenomenal. Clubs once labelled weak, discovered their hidden treasures in key areas, capitalized on them, and emerged stronger. Being aware of the level of interest of each club and providing them timely, proper guidance is the best service Area and Division leaders can deliver. As a result, Division H has brought back all the clubs to active status. For each challenge we face, there is a solution – a solution that is practical and feasible. By diagnosing the correct causes and applying the solution, a challenged club can emerge back and move to top. Opportunities are everywhere. Success in identifying these opportunities, capitalizing on them and achieving the

desired goals were demonstrated by most clubs during the contest season bearing testimony to the leadership skills at both Club and Area levels. Annual club contests are an opportunity to showcase talents that can be used to attract new members to the club. It was not a surprise therefore, that 23 clubs from Division H won the ‘Talk Up Toastmasters Award.’ Facing challenges boldly, by end of third quarter, Division H achieved a net gain of one club with most of them already Distinguished. We have immense satisfaction that our focused approach, working with the clubs at the grassroots level, assisting weak clubs with specific strategic plans, motivating leaders at the club level to gain from toastmasters program...all paid off well. We need to continue working on our current strategic plans, to ensure sustainable growth for all clubs. Our Area Governors and Club leaders are now best equipped to train the future level of leaders, so as to continue the legacy. When you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb -Khalil Gibran The Division Conference is yet another opportunity for the clubs to showcase themselves, gain maximum mileage, and emerge stronger. As the clubs already begin to see their vision realized, excitement is in air!

EXPERIENCE THE EXCITEMENT, EXPAND THE EXPERIENCE!

MESSAGE FROM AREA 2 GOVERNOR

ANA MARIA O. PALER. ACB, ALB AREA 2 GOVERNOR Greetings dear Readers! The joy in my heart is so overwhelming. I am elated to be the Area 2 Governor which now comprises six of the most terrific Clubs in Division H - Abu Dhabi Toastmasters, Achievers Toastmasters, Ro’Yah Toastmasters, Al Riyadah, Tebodin Toastmasters and the newly formed NPCC Toastmasters. The recently concluded Area 2 Speech Contest turned out to be a power packed event…. conforming to my opening remarks that day - “The annual energy consumed by the human race in all of the earth is equivalent with sun’s energy reaching our planet in 2 minutes” - that same energy radiated to the Toastmasters who attended the Speech Contest and their power was attributed to their never ending

enthusiasm, interest and commitment to Communicate and to Lead. This first stage of the Speech Competition placed all winners to what they’ve prepared for. Though there would be some sad moments of not winning and of longing to be at the International Competition, I say that every Toastmaster has to keep going. Do not stop! Persevere! Persist and truly, that perfect moment will be yours when you least expect it. Let me thank the Club Leaders in my Area together with the Club Members and for the support of the Division, headed by Division Governor DTM Sunil Kottarathil. “Let the World be Speechless No More!”

DIVISION H SOUVENIR 2015

MESSAGE FROM AREA 9 GOVERNOR

SWAMINATHAN S. ACG, ALB AREA 9 GOVERNOR Governor who provided us all the guidance, support and direction at all critical moments. All the four clubs (Buraimi Hospital Toastmasters Club being less than three months old) have excellent leaders, who have turned vision into reality andwithin a short span, have taken the area to the ‘President’s Distinguised’ status that has eventually benefitted the Division. Our clubs have done well in the Distinguished Club Program with Mussafah Toastmasters being one of the earliest to achieve all ten DCP points in our District. All credit to its leaders who have created this record in the Division. It is rare to have a Toastmasters Area covering multiple Cities but is perhaps unique to have an Area stretching across Countries. Area 9 has this unique distiction with clubs in busy Abu Dhabi and Al Ain cities as well as Mussafah town on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. It is the newly formed “Buraimi Hospital Toastmasters Club” in Al Buraimi, that truly sets our Area apart as it is in Oman. My task as the Area Governor was smooth sailing thanks to our enthusiastic clubs, their capable leaders and the good fortune of working with ourexceptionally supportive Division

Al Ain Toastmasters Club and NMC Corporate Chapter are ‘Select Distinguished’ while the new club Buraimi Hospital Toastmasters Clubhas already garnered 2 DCP goals. This initial momentum is sure to have laid down a base for the club to achieve a perfect 10 next year within first 3-4 months. A special salute to all the three clubs. Regular meetings of all the clubs under our Area are well planned, well attended and outstanding in quality. The energy generated is amazing and has inspired me to go back for more. Apart from the Governor’s official visits, personal visits have given them the right impetus to

achieve further. I have been made to feel as one of their members and my advice and suggestions have been sought for all acitivites, which once again is unique to our Area. Area 9 clubs were the first batch of clubs to compete in club contests and Area 9 was also the first to hold club contestin the Division and I am confident that our Area must be one among the top Areas in the Division and the District, completing their contestsas early as February. The Area Contest witnessed healthy competetion and our winnersare to sure bring laurels to their clubs, Area, Division and District and inspire others to achive greater success. Three clubs participated in the Area Contest, with 70 people attending, bearing testimony to the quality of the clubs in the Area. The fun filled ‘Banner Parade’ was reintroduced in the Area contest this year, which was highly appreciated and was a feast for the ears and eyes. Our success was possible due to immense support of membes of our four clubs, fellow Area Governors, and of course the Division Governor and his team. We salute them and say “Learning Process… Never Ends…” Salute to all Toastmasters of Division H.

MESSAGE FROM AREA 11 GOVERNOR

ALOK TUTEJA. ACG, ALB AREA 11 GOVERNOR difference to my life. Immediately after that contest I decided to join the club. ISC Toastmasters helped hone my speaking skills and develop my leadership skills.

I am a member of the India Social and Culture Centre, Abu Dhabi. As an ISC office bearer, I used to be a regular visitor. That’s how I happened to notice a sign saying ‘Toastmaster meeting in progress.’ At first I thought it was a group who loved to imbibe and given to proposing toasts to each other; being a teetotaller, I never gave it a second glance. One evening, an email landed in my inbox which said ‘Come and witness the best contest ever by influential speakers’. The mail ended with an invitation to the contest. That invitation made a

During the year 2014-15, I accepted the role of Area 11 Governor, to assess my leadership skills. Soon after I took over as Area 11 Governor there was a setback. The management of two of the corporate clubs and its officers were not keen on continuing the club .This had begun to seriously affect the Area Success Plan. Despite the best efforts of the Area Council and particularly that of the immediate past Area Governor TM Anoop, these clubs could not be revived. Our Division Governor DTM Sunil is not one who lets hopes die. With his constant encouragement, we worked on reviving two clubs together. This led to the formation of a new High Performance Club, a club that focuses on assisting members to complete their HPL project, which is a major milestone on the path to DTM. The Idea clicked very well. We revived the club with the help of some experienced Toastmasters. I had set sight on starting a new club in the private concern that I work for. When, all efforts to convince the

management did not materialize, I started talking to interested colleagues, kept Toastmasters magazines and awards in my office. This aroused the interest of my colleagues in the Toastmasters program. Gradually,I was able to convince them about the life altering benefits of the incredible program called Toastmasters. Soon, I started getting positive results. We started with group of four that grew to eight by the next month. I am confident that within two months this club will be in full swing with over twenty members. I learned from DTM Sunil this valuable lesson- Never lose hope, just keep working towards your goal, and things will automatically fall in place. The challenges during my tenure as Area Governor role has enriched my pool of skills, like being a visionary, planning to achieve the vision, executing the plan, inspiring and empowering the team to follow a common goal, but above all, never lose hope. The year has been full of challenges that we have always overcome thanks to some of our senior leaders as well as dedicated club members. We are sure to end this Toastmaster’s year on a very positive note.

MESSAGE FROM AREA 23 GOVERNOR

RAVI MOOSAD. ACS, ALB AREA 23 GOVERNOR are inseparably linked. Even with the modest level of service that I have provided as Area Governor, the learning experience has been amazing. I was lucky to have four amazing clubs in the Area, with a great mix of seasoned toastmasters as well as promising new members. The Presidents and other Executive Committee members of the respective clubs have performed their role with amazing commitment and all the clubs in the Area were able to grab both the ‘Smedley’ and the ‘Talk Up Toastmasters’ awards.

“To command is to serve, nothing more and nothing less.” – Andre Malraux

Whenever you take up a leadership position in Toastmasters, there is one huge challenge awaiting you. While you have all the responsibilities related to the position, you hardly have any authority. In this scenario, there is only one way to lead, through service. In my opinion, service, leadership and learning

All the member clubs of Area 23 showed their strength in one or the other way. While Abu Dhabi ICAI Toastmasters Club have recorded maximum DCP points in the Area, Humoroids Advanced Toastmasters Club made their presence known by conducting the most entertaining meetings. While the PR Efforts of Millennium Toastmasters Club even caught international attention, Etihad Airways Toastmasters Club, the baby club of Area 23, grabbed more prizes in the Annual Contest than any other club.

Despite the great efforts from club leaders, there are a few challenges still remaining. They are mostly related to club membership and achieving DCP points. However, I’m sure that the club leaders can overcome these problems in the coming months. After all, challenges are the biggest opportunities to learn. My request to all the Toastmasters is to take up every role and every position possible and serve with an honest intention to help fellow Toastmasters. You will never be disappointed with all the learning, satisfaction and appreciation that you will receive in return. Roy.E.Disney said, ‘When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier’. Whenever you are struggling to make a leadership decision in Toastmasters, think of the core values. You are here to SERVE!!

ROMEO F. DIAS. ACS, ALB AREA 26 GOVERNOR Thanks for the support and guidance, and most importantly to my interpersonal skills, I made it as the Area 26 Governor for the term 2014-2015. It was a great opportunity to lead the 5 clubs under Area 26, each with a unique blend of talents and cultures. Each of these clubs are led by amazing talented leaders, who provided their full cooperation in making sure that Area 26 if not greater, was always at par with the other Areas, of the great Division H.

Being an Area Governor was no less than a major challenge that I took on utilizing the capabilities developed in toastmasters, to give back to the toastmasters’ community and the society at large. Every moment of it till date has been special and will be remembered for long. Let me take you on a little flashback of this journey – April 2014, while the largest democracy in the world- India was going through its election process, a small group of people gathered around the same time to elect the Area Governor for Area 26. Guess what, yours truly - Romeo Dias was one of the candidates for the position!!

The Abjad Toastmasters Club: Led by the experienced and able Toastmaster Salwa Al Marzouqi, the club is the only Arabic chapter in Division H. I had the privilege to attend the club meetings twice. Even though I am equipped only with very basic Arabic skills, I was really impressed by the professional, yet enjoyable manner they conducted their meetings. Intilaaqah Club: Led by the amazing Toastmaster Iman Al Maskari, Intilaaqah is a very vibrant and lively club which has a record membership of over 50. It was a pleasure to be a part of their meetings and see the budding talents within the club. Oxy Speakers Club: Led by the dynamic leader, Toastmaster Abdulla Seliem, who had been a toastmaster in HoustonUS several years back has used his experience to good use in the Oxy corporate club in Abu Dhabi. He is doing

a wonderful job in leading a group, who are fairly new to the toastmaster’s world. Basharia Toastmasters club: Led by an experienced Toastmaster Abdulaziz Al Harthy, who has been with the toastmasters movement for over 10 years, Basharia is a perfect example for the maxim ‘Lead by Example’, He has selflessly given his all towards making the most culturally diverse club which also happens to be the oldest club in Area 26, the best in Division H. Abu Dhabi Refinery Club: Led by Toastmaster Mohamed Al Khoori, this is a club which I would title as the ‘Never give up’ club. After facing issues several times and even reaching a point of no return, the club remains active mainly due to the interest of its members, who are keen on developing their communication and leadership skills thus keeping the club on an active status. Getting to the basics and watching members’ progress in these clubs gives me immense joy and satisfaction. As my Area Governor’s journey comes to an end, I can only say it was a fantastic opportunity to be a servant leader for Toastmasters International. But the journey continues and there’s yet so much to learn and explore within the splendid program that is Toastmasters!!

MESSAGE FROM AREA 55 GOVERNOR

RAJSEKHAR CV. ACS, ALB AREA 55 GOVERNOR for me to put in that little extra. The support extended by various leaders from the clubs in Area 55, along with TM Bharat Khatri and TM Vikas Agarwal, was also very instrumental in making it a fruitful year.

They say, ‘Time flies’. At this stage, when my term as the Area Governor of Area 55, for the year, 2014-15, draws to a close, I cannot agree more. It seems only yesterday that I had agreed to take over the role of an Area Governor, thanks to the motivation and encouragement from dear friends and well-wishers. Looking back at the past year, I am filled with mixed feelings, that of satisfaction, pride and relief. The support of the Division team, led by the Governor Sunil Kottarathil, was an immense relief in fulfilling my responsibilities. I am in awe of his commitment and zeal for Toastmasters and he hasbeen a continuous source of encouragement

Area 55 has indeed been a leading light for the Division since its formation. This year, Area 55 had the distinction of being the largest area with 6 clubs under its wings, 3 of them being community clubs, while the other 3, corporate clubs. The well dispersed geographical locations of the clubs - Musaffah, Reem Island and the heart of Abu Dhabi was a challenge. It was also challenging to visit these clubs, participate and assign speakers in terms of the club meeting timings, as some of the clubs were very new and required guidance. With regards to the performance as an Area, we have done really well. One of the clubs, Inner Universe, true to its track records, is already a President’s Distinguished Club, while 3 other clubs, NMC Community, NBAD One and Kera are almost there and will definitely make it by the end of the term. The other 2 clubs DULSCO and ACIO, which are corporate clubs and being new, are putting in great efforts to make a firm footing. The clubs have some very committed leaders, who are very keen to take the club forward and guide their

colleagues to get maximum benefit of the toastmasters’ program. Another new club in the area is in the offing and hopefully as we get into the home run, we should make it a reality. This will also help the Area achieve ‘President’s Distinguished’ status. There have been a few challenges, especially for the corporate clubs, as it requires considerable effort to strike a balance between the office schedule and Toastmasters related activities. But with the commitment and dedication of the toastmasters, matters are being resolved and clubs are looking forward to a wonderful future. They say the whole is greater than the sum of all the individual parts. This is indeed proving true time and again. This was very much evident in the recently concluded Area contest. It was indeed a very successful event with the leaders and club members from all the clubs in the Area putting up a great show. Excellence is a journey and not a destination. This journey of excellence for Area 55 has been initiated by some very inspiring leaders and it is gratifying to be a part of this journey of success. Hope this success continues and wishing all toastmasters a great year ahead.

Toastmasters are taught to run meetings on time, finish speeches on time and reach membership goals on time. In that spirit, 'Beat the Clock' is a great motivator for finishing the year on schedule—on time and with record numbers! Make it your club’s goal to earn the 'Beat the Clock' award and encourage every member to take part. Clubs adding five new, dual or reinstated members with a join date between May 1 and June 30 receive a 'Beat the Clock' ribbon to display on the club’s banner. Qualifying clubs also earn a special discount code for 10% off their next club order.
