Flea Market News Briefs Florida’s Fancy Flea Market is Moving

Boom City Swap Meet and Flea Market is Open

Downtown Flea to Open in Historic LA

The Fancy Flea in Lakeland, FL, is expanding into Plant City. Lori Powell, owner, says the market opened in November 2009 with 12 vendors and has grown to about 325 booths. The new location for the Fancy Flea is Plant City’s Strawberry Festival fairgrounds. The market is held once in the spring and again in the fall, and the next show will be Saturday, Nov. 2. The show may grow to a maximum of 300 vendors and 400 booths, Powell adds. Booth rental fee for the November show will remain $75 for a 10-foot by 10-foot spot. In the spring, the fee will go up to $100. Vendors primarily sell vintage, vintage inspired, repurposed and antique items, with a few direct sellers of products such as Mary Kay Cosmetics. The shows will include a food truck rally along with musical entertainment. The Fancy Flea is also holding two smaller shows this year. The La Petit show will be held July 20 at Lake Mirror and a Holiday Market is planned for the first weekend in December. The market’s website is www.fancyflealakeland.com. ■

The Boom City Swap Meet and Flea Market, located at 10300 27th Ave., N.E., in Tulalip, WA, is open for the season. It is adjacent to the Tulalip Casino and Hotel just off Interstate 5. The market is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., May through September, with five weeks off, from June 3 to July 12, for the exclusive use of the location for Boom City Fireworks vendors. The market is family oriented, and has a bouncy house for children. Entry fee is $1 per person, or a maximum $2 per vehicle, and children are admitted free. The market provides lots of free parking. Vendor spaces are 25 feet wide by 20 feet deep, and rent for $20 per day, or $35 per day for food vendors. The market hosts around 200 vendors, however, limits the number of food vendors to 12. A Tulalip Tribes Business License is required to sell on the property, and the market facilitates the Tulalip licensing process. The market’s website is www.boomcityswapmeet.com. ■

Downtown Flea will open in the historic core of Los Angeles, CA, July 28th. Downtown Flea will be open the fourth Sunday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spanning five parking lots, the market will feature up to 400 vendors selling new and vintage goods, eight food trucks, bands and DJs, a VIP lounge, beer garden, rock climbing and even a helipad. Admission to Downtown Flea is $5. Rental rates range from $65 for a 10-foot by 10-foot booth to $135 for a 20-foot by 20foot corner space. Food truck vendors will pay $175. Flea marketers interested in renting a space must complete the online registration and application form on the market’s website. In addition, the market will host a monthly scavenger hunt in which attendees will have to collect free items from each lot. The first 20 people to find all eight items and bring them back to a station will get $20 in FleaBucks that can be spent like cash at all participating booths. The market’s website is dtflea.com. ■
