Religious leaders in Oro endorse Villar

GROUPS indetified to the moderate Baptist Church in Cagayan de Oro City unanimously declared its strong support to the senatorial bid of Cynthia Villar during the Bishops, Pastors and Church Leaders Fellowship on Tuesday at Dynasty Court hotel. During the fellowship, bishops, pastors, church leaders, and followers signed a manifesto endorsing Mrs. Hanep-Buhay as its official and common candidate in the forthcoming midterm elections on May 13. Those that signed the manifesto of support include the Society of Active Leaders Transformation (Salt), Philippine Evangelical Network (Pen), and the Hinterland Association on People of Worship Evangelical Renewal (Power). MABINI, Compostela Valley––Evidence found at the crime scene where Roque Antivo, the eight-year-old boy killed in a strafing incident allegedly by military forces, had already been altered. This was the strong belief of Sonny Cortes, stepfather of Antivo, who happened to witness the military strafing last week in Kidaraan village, this town. “Gihilabtan na to (it is already altered),” Cortes said, adding that during the police investigation, two sets of bullet shells were already found. “One set of bullet shells was found where the soldiers positioned when they

fired. But another set was suspiciously placed opposite of them,” Cortes told davaotoday.com. Police Senior Inspector Michael Uyanguren, station commander of the Mabini Police, however said they have not noticed any alteration in the crime scene. “Soco (Scene of the Crime Operatives) will know (if there is an alteration),” he said adding that

DAVAO City––Relatives, human rights and children’s rights groups here will file criminal charges against the military on the death of a child in Mabini town in Compostela Valley (ComVal). Roque Antivo, 8, was killed last April 3 in an alleged strafing incident in ComVal, while two other children – Jeffrey Hernan, 13, and Earl John Antivo, 12 – sustained gunshot wounds and hit by shrapnel, respectively. Hanimay Suazo, of Karapatan Southern Mindanao, said they transferred Hernan from the Davao Regional Hospital (DRH) in Tagum City to another hospital, which she refused to name, last Saturday. “He was not safe there because while in the DRH, the boy was being guarded by military personnel 24 hours a day,” she said. Hernan, his mother Julita, two sisters and Karapatan members were already inside the van when a policeman asked about the boy’s profile before they could leave the DRH, Suazo said. CAMP Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City---A simple turn over ceremony of the new Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division was held at the Silva Hall of the Battalion Headquarters, South Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon at 10 a.m. yesterday. Lt. Col. Romualdo B. Landingan, prior to his designation as the commanding officer of the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, was the Executive Officer of the 401st Infantry “Unity” Brigade based in Camp D.O. Plaza, Awa, New Leyte in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. He replaced Lt. Col. Jose Maria R Cuerpo who completed the two years stint for a Battalion Commander position and will be designated as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, G1 of the Division. During his commandership of the unit, he led 8IB to successes, one most recent achievement of the unit was being adjudged as the best battalion of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division during the annual performance evaluation of the field units for calendar year 2012 conducted by Headquarters Philippine Army. A team of six young Brazilian professionals recently made a courtesy call on Mayor Vicente “Dongkoy” Y. Emano to kick off their April 8-16 cultural tour in Cagayan de Oro where they intend “to learn the local norms and practices of their vocations and to experience and understand the local culture.” The group’s tour was made possible through the Group Study Exchange (GSE) Program of the Rotary International. CAGAYAN de Oro City––Rep. Benjo Benaldo announcesd that he has now a total of 168 projects for the first congressional district of Cagayan de Oro City, a significant increase from the 100 or so projects since last year. Benaldo made the announcement even as some of the projects are still ongoing and would be turned over to the barangays as soon as completed.
