Yano in CdO Dec 2014 YANO comes to Cagayan de Oro on December 20 this year. After coming home from their successful 2 night concert in London, UK on Sept 27 & 28, 2014 where they launched the new album ‘Ya Hindi No’ during P FEST UK there, Yano flies to Canada on Dec. 6 for P FEST CANADA, part of P FEST GLOBAL that had its debut in UK. Yano has produced 2 more albums entitled ‘Talâ’ in 2013 (the 4th Yano album) and ‘Ya Hindi No’ (the 5th Yano album). Also there was a solo album entitled ‘Sa Bandang Huli’ in 2003. It is highly recommended and commendable to have a copy of the album ‘Talâ’ and ‘Ya Hindi No’. They continue what the songs of Yano have been reputed for, that they reflect real life, ‘naa’y kabuluhan’, ‘naa’y matun-an’, ‘tinood nga nahitabo

o nasinati’, among many other appreciation. Gancio recorded all 3 albums alone since in Davao where the band is currently based. The lyrics as they say are ‘Yano in flavour’ and the melodies are ‘Yano gyud’, citing comments from those who had acquired the album. The 4th album ‘Talâ’’s carrier single of the same title is about ‘Sundin mo ang ‘yong ligaya, at ang mga talâ’y bubuksan ang iyong mga pintuan, na dati-rati’y pawang bakuran lamang,’ an adaptation of Joseph Campbell’s ‘Follow your bliss’. The 5th album carrier song ‘Ya Hindi No’, also the cd’s title, is about ‘Ya hindi

no, sa lahat ng bagay gabay ito. Ya hindi no, ang buhay ay gabay nito,’ pertaining to a shift of perspective from the usual pessimist to the exact opposite, the optimist. And really taking the specific actions to what is positive, and not merely the thought of it. For instance, ‘life is light, not heavy.’ Hence, take the actions that are crucial to making it abundant, in the lightness and happiness of things, and not into the realm of pressure or the unneeded perception of sacrifice.

TAN by CHINKEE

MY UNFAITHFUL HUSBAND Unfaithful ba ang asawa mo? Being in this type of situation is one of the most painful things that any married couple can experience.

1. What are my lapses in our relationship? Ano ang naging pagkukulang ko? 2. How did your husband get a chance to flirt with another woman? 3. Na-protektahan ko ba ang asawa ko? Have I protected my husband against temptations? 4. Did I treat and serve my husband well? Have I faithfully done my role/part as a wife? 6. Am I faithful to my husband in all circumstances and occasion? 7. Do I make time for my spouse? May panahon ba ko sa asawa ko? 8. Am I too possessive? Seloso ba ako? 9. Did I allow myself to be the submit to our relationship or am I dominant? 10. Am I a constant nagger?

11. Do I support him in all his undertakings and decisions? 12. Did my husband feel that I love him and care for him? 13. Do I pray for my husband’s well-being? Naipapanalangin ko ba ang asawa ko? Yan at marami pang ibang katanungan. Parang lang siyang bahay, in time you have to renovate your house. Ngunit kung sisimulan mo ang pagbabago sa sarili mo, it will have a domino effect sa partner mo. I will continue this blog tomorrow. For now, I want you to find time to answer the questions and reflect on your answers. From these answers you can create a new approach and strategy, kung paano ka makikitungo sa husband mo. Do not allow pessimism get along the way while you are doing this exercise. I know this is frustrating and there is a sense of hopelessness. Prayerfully consider all your answers. If you feel that your family and love is worth fighting for, you have to do whatever it takes to fight for it. You got to set aside your personal feelings. Do what you think is right for your marriage to work. Uulitin ko, change must start from you! Never expect others to change, if you are not willing to take the first step. See you again tomorrow. Remember, ALWAYS CHINK POSITIVE!

Contrary to common knowledge that the band no longer exists, Yano has continued ever since its erstwhile frontman has gone solo after the retreat to his room for 3 years. Gancio carried on Yano appropriately so, to continue the storytelling and the performance of the band’s all-time songs that now have reached the appreciation of the next generation teens, 20s and even children. In fact, Yano has produced 2 more albums entitled ‘Talâ’ in 2013 (the 4th Yano album) and ‘Ya Hindi No’ (the 5th Yano album). Yano was formed by Gancio in 1993 in UP Diliman. The band’s self-titled album became famous the year after in 1994 with the songs ‘Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo’, ‘Kumusta na’, ‘Esem’, ‘Tsinelas’ and many more. Gancio arranged and sound produced all albums from the 1st self-titled album ‘Yano’ to the current 5th album ‘Ya Hindi No.’ On the 4th and 5th albums, Gancio performed all instruments and vocals and sound engineered all tracks in his home studio in Davao City. He also does practically everything pertaining to the band’s affairs including management, promotion and marketing, album design and reproduction, music video direction and editing, exclusive distribution of the albums, and even up to the web design of Yano’s website http://yano. ph. Lastly, it is worth the while to note that this writer wrote this article to the best of his knowledge and the best of good faith and has no intent to malign or mislead the public and everyone concerned about the truth and veracity of the items mentioned in the article. This is especially appropriate that there are individuals that spread claims against Yano that it has fallen, those who came close or were even part of this band. Yano now performs as a 3-piece band, with Gancio on lead vocals and lead guitar, and sessions Jr Madarang and Koko Mamada. You may reach Yano or update on its whereabouts and next gigs or buy the latest cd’s at https://facebook. com/yanoericgancio (or search ‘yanoericgancio’ at facebook) and http://yano. ph. Certainly not, Yano is still here. Yano’s story and telling continues!

The Chameleon: Origins A lot of people are already inquiring on how I came up with the moniker The Chameleon. Well this is the backstory. Sometime in the late 1990s when I was still a college dude, I was part of our young adult Singles group in our Immaculate Conception Parish in Bulua. The group that still exists up to this day is called The People of God Community. I was taking up BS Development Communication in Xavier University back then. At that early age, it was already my passion to write. One day, I was asked to contribute in our humble newsletter of The People

of God Community, the newsletter being called Epaphras, named after a biblical character found in the New Testament. I thought of a moniker back then that suited my fancy as I didn’t want to expose my name as an article writer. It was also at the time in 1998 when the movie The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler was released and became popular. Back then, there were no CDs yet. There were no MP3s. There were no music downloads, legal or otherwise. Heck, there were no torrents. Pirate Bay was non-existential. In today’s age, I download whole MP3 albums from

Cage the Elephant to 30 Seconds to Mars. Back then, you have to buy a whole album of cassette tape… yup cassette tape. And so I bought the soundtrack of The Wedding Singer in cassette form at Music Vision (nope there was no J Burger or Wang’s Tea back then.) One of the tracks in the album caught my ear. It was the cute rendition of Culture Club’s Do You Really Want to Hurt Me. And then I remembered another Culture Club 1980s cult hit Karma Chameleon. The lyrics were catchy enough: Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma, chameleon,

You come and go, you come and go. Loving would be easy if your colours were like my dreams: red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green. At the time, I didn’t mind the meaning of the lyric and even now I don’t. So yeah, I put in my pseudonym as The Chameleon in the Epaphras newsletter. Time passed by and I graduated from college. In 2001, a newspaper was put up named Mindanao Today. One of the articles that I wrote was what I’d call a work of speculation – meaning it’s up for the reader to decide whether

ARIES (March 21 – April 19) - You can’t quite make out what’s going on with your people today -- so see if you can gain some clarity. It may take all day or even longer, but you are sure to find that things are better on the other side. TAURUS (April 20 – May 20) - Your compassionate side is expressed to the fullest extent today -- so much so that you may find it hard to say no to those in need. Try your best to maintain a balance between personal and universal. GEMINI (May 21 – June 21) - It gets frustrating after a while -you can’t seem to figure out what you want to do next, and no clues are forthcoming. The good news is that you’re just about to find a new way to make decisions.

If you can blow off the small stuff, so much the better. LEO (July 23 – August 22) - Things are a little unclear today -- so make sure that you’re dealing with issues that make at least a little sense to you. Things are sure to get simpler in a few days, or a week at the most.
