Briefly ARMM investments ZAMBOANGA City -- The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for 2013 has recorded P1.463 billion in investments, 157 percent higher than last year’s P569 million. Ishak Mastura, chair and managing head of Regional Board of Investment (RBOIARMM), said this was the second time the ARMM hit the P1 billion mark. The first was in 2011. The RBOI-ARMM has registered four firms this year that availed of both fiscal and non-fiscal investment incentives. One of these companies is AlTawi-Tawi Nickel Corporation (ANC) which emerged as the top investor that poured in P707.9 million for an expansion project on mining and quarrying of nickel ore in Barangay Tumbagaan, Languyan, Tawi-Tawi. The second top investor was the Bumbaran Development Corporation, which constructed 1,500 housing units worth P365 million in Barangay Sarmiento, Parang, Maguindanao.

Anti-dengue drive COUNCILOR Dante Pajo, chair of the City Council committee on health, urges barangay officials, especially barangay kagawads who chair their respective health committees, to actively participate in the “Kampanya Batok Denque.” “Let us initiate programs and activities in our barangays like strictly implementing our city Ordinance 10044-2006,” Pajo said. The ordinance regulates the storing or stockpiling of used tires, tin cans, flower pots and other containers that can be breeding grounds of denquecarrying mosquitoes. Section 4 provides that any person found guilty of violating the provision of the ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not to exceed Five Thousand Pesos (P5,000.00) or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed six (6) months, or both fine and imprisonment.

A Two-Way Conversation

hin k a minute…D o you sometimes wonder why you didn’t get what you prayed for? Does God really listen and answer our prayers? Is talking with God just something we do to make us feel good about ourselves? How should we pray? Some people sit back after they pray and wait for God to bring them what they want like a waiter in a restaurant? A wise man said: “We are a part of the answer to every prayer that we pray.” So if we ask God to help us do better in school, then we must do our part of studying more and maybe even getting extra help from someone. We can’t expect God to magically put the answers into our brain the day of the test! It could be that while we’re waiting for God to do something, He’s waiting for us to do our part and responsibility. Prayer is a two-way conversation. Prayer is not us getting God to do what we want; it’s more God telling us what He wants so we can learn how to live His successful, satisfying life. And He’s already told us how to live well through Jesus Christ’s life and teaching, the whole Bible, as well as through our thoughts while we’re listening to Him in prayer. Imagine if God always gave us everything we ask

for. Then we would just give Him our orders, forget Him, and go on living our own way. But God created each of us to enjoy a daily, personal relationship with Him. Maybe He’s not giving us exactly what we’re asking for to get our attention, so we’ll start getting closer to Him so we can listen and learn His right, happy way of living. You see, prayer does not only change things, prayer changes US! Other times God wants us to wait, even when we ask Him for good things, because He knows our real reasons and motives are wrong and greedy. Or, if we’re asking God to change someone else instead of changing us, then that problem or difficult person may not go away because God wants us to change our heart and hurst/PAGE 7

We Have an Intruder in the House

R

ecently, the Washington Post reported that on September 19, a former sniper, jumped the fence at the White House, burst through the front door and ran 130 feet into the East Room. The East Room is used for events and receptions. The intruder, who had previous arrests for carrying deadly weapons, had a knife. Secret service men tackled the intruder before he got any further. He is now facing criminal charges. President Obama was not in the White House at the time but the security breach raised a howl in the US Congress causing the head of the Secret Service to resign. A parallel breach recently hit America’s biggest bank JP Morgan Chase. Just like the White House, the bank with its huge investments in security systems is supposedly one of the most protected. According to the New York Times, hackers began intruding into JP Morgan in June but were not discovered until July.

As required by law, JP Morgan Chase has filed disclosures about the cyber breaches. The New York Times, quoting JP Morgan Chase’s disclosures, reported that as many as 76 mi l lion h ou s e h o l d s a n d s e v e n million small businesses have been compromised. The New York Times further reported: “Operating overseas, the hackers gained access to the names, addresses, phone numbers and emails of JP Morgan account holders.” Bank executives were quick to contain the fallout reassuring its customers that “no money had been taken” and that “there is no evidence of fraud involving the use of customer information”. St i l l, t he Ne w York Times concluded: “Even if no customer financial information was taken, the apparent breadth and depth of the JP Morgan attack shows how vulnerable Wall Street institutions are to cybercrime.” Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase, agreed.

“..(C)yberattacks are growing every day in strength and velocity across the globe. Even though the bank has fortified its defenses against the attacks, the battle is continual and likely neverending.” The extent and severity of the hacking incident has reportedly so unnerved not only Wall Street but even the White House. A White House insider reported that cyber situationers are now part of the security briefings for President Obama alongside the regular menu such as the ISIS threat and the situation in Ukraine. As the story of the JP Morgan attacks unraveled, a number of conspiracy theories have emerged. The principal suspect is Russia. There is speculation that the attacks were not about profit, but about politics. The attacks could be a retaliation over sanctions imposed on Russia due to its actions in Ukraine. The other usual suspect is China which the FBI has routinely accused of cyber attacks and spying. Five

Chinese military officers have b een indicted for hacking into US companies in May. What can we learn from the JP Morgan Chase attack? If it can happen to JP Morgan, it can just as well happen to the Big Boys in Philippine banking. Much more so, to the Smaller Boys. In cas e we los e our deposit(s) in a cyber attack, are we protected to the extent provided for under the Philippine Deposit Insurance Act? Something to think about. “Kill the Man Who Stole Boy’s P200 Earnings”

L

IFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons…” (1 Timothy 4:1, the Holy Bible). -ooo “KILL THE MAN WHO STOLE BOY’S P200 EARNINGS”: Almost all persons I talked to, who saw in Facebook or heard over the radio about a very young boy whose P200.00 earnings from selling pan de sal were forcibly taken from him by a hold-up man in Deparo, Caloocan City, last Thursday, October 09, 2014, said they wanted the hold-up man arrested and killed instantly. That kind of a reaction, t hou g h d ange rous and is pushing our people to the brink of lawlessness and anarchy, encouraging them to take the law into their own hands simply because government and police officials have become so inutile and useless in pre vent ing cr imes and assaults against them, is understandable, for so many reasons. I mean, who is the man in his right mind who would steal from a boy who, at his young age, already knew how to earn decently and honestly? The video of the

boy posted in Facebook by a netizen showed the boy not only crying and totally dazed while holding on to the Styrofoam box that contained the pan de sal he was selling, but was even shaking all over, obviously from great shock and consuming terror. -ooo PNOY & PNP EMBOLDEN RP CRIMINALS: And President Aquino and his allies still have the gall to keep trumpeting that his government, and the Philippine National Police under embattled Director General Alan La Madrid Purisima, have criminality in check, and the peace and order situation in the country stabilized? The hold-up of the boy happened in Caloocan City, right in Metro Manila, in the seat of government power, and yet no one but one was able to protect him from a lawless brigand. Indeed, as the National Transformation Council is saying, in its Lipa City and Cebu Declarations, Aquino and his incompetent officials have become the dangers to our country and our people, because of their inability to govern well, and to stop criminality. What cannot be denied by Aquino and Purisima, and the entire government headed by Aquino, is the paralysis of righteousness that has

gripped the country from the moment he was sworn in to office in 2010. Good manners and right conduct flew out of our windows, integrity in government service disintegrated, and disregard and disobedience to the law and to dulyconstituted authorities like the Supreme Court became the norm, from the President down to many of his allies, emboldening the criminals in our midst. -ooo IS THERE STILL HOPE FOR FILIPINOS UNDER PNOY? Is there still any hope left for us, ordinary Filipinos, in the face of thieving, plundering, inept, and incompetent political and government leaders and hungry citizens running berserk? Let us not forget that this kind of fate was prophesied to happen in the book that may are trying to discredit throughout the ages but which has repeatedly proved its truthfulness and accuracy through the occurrence of the prophecies written in its pages. In 1 Timothy 3 of that book, the Bible, we were told: “There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving,

slanderous, without selfcontrol, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” And many people will become this kind of evil because, as 1 Timothy 4 of the Bible also said, people will no longer be listening to God, not reading and obeying His commands in the Bible. Instead, they will be listening to evil teachings. Indeed, these prophecies are playing out and are coming true at this point, and only a return to God in all sincerity will change all these. -ooo REACTIONS? Why plant more mangroves? Eco-friendly property shares reasons Primavera Residences recently joined the mangrove planting activity conducted by Philippine Air Force TOG 10 and Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) in Barangay Bonbon, Cagayan de Oro City last October 11, 2014. “Being the first ecofriendly building in Cagayan de Oro, Primavera Residences advocates environmental protection and conservation, and we are very honored and happy to support this activity,” says Ms. Gladys Echano, VP for Sales of Primavera Residences. Mangrove forests are among the most productive ecosystems and are especially helpful in coastal areas such as Cagayan de Oro City. Aside from providing goods worldwide that account to approximately US$186 million each year, mangroves also serve as protection and shelter against extreme weather conditions – something Kagay-anons are unfortunately familiar with. Here are more reasons why planting mangroves is one of the extremely important things you can do to save our community and our planet, as shared by Jane Duterte, PR & Marketing Manager of Primavera Residences.

clarity and quality of water.

tat for various animal species Different varieties of fishes, crabs, shrimps, mollusks, and other marine life seek shelter and thrive in mangrove forests. Mangroves are also home to birds and mammals such as the mangrove monkeys of South Asia, and also serve as nurseries and breeding grounds for several types of fishes and invertebrates. These natural fisheries provide food for thousands of coastal communities around the world.

2. Mangroves create liveli1. Mangroves provide a habi- hoods for communities

Fishing, gathering of crustaceans and use of mangrove timber are just some of the livelihoods being provided by mangrove forests. Mangrove wood is very valuable because it is resistant to rotting and insects, and this is why several communities around the world rely on it for construction and for fuel. Other opportunities created by mangrove forests include tourism (imagine snorkeling in and around mangrove trees and marveling at the diverse marine life amidst a backdrop of interwoven mangrove roots!), plant products

(some medicinal plants thrive in mangrove ecosystems, and mangrove leaves are also used as animal feeds), and myriad other economic potentials. In a study made in 2007, it was reported that one hectare alone of a mangrove forest has an annual economic value of around US$12,000. That’s roughly P540,000 in Philippine pesos. Now can you imagine how that would help the local economy and the local communities? 3. Mangroves protect coastal areas Mangroves have been

known to provide a buffer against extreme weather conditions like storms, tsunamis, cyclones, floods, and hurricane winds. There are several reports of villages being saved from tsunami destruction by the belt of mangroves protecting the shoreline. Because mangrove trees absorb and disperse tidal surges, coastal communities which are prone to calamities can definitely benefit from more mangrove reforestation programs. Aside from these, mangroves also filter pollutants and trap sediments coming from land, thereby maintaining the

The recent mangrove planting activity is one of the environment conservation initiatives being supported by Italpinas Euroasian Design and Eco-development Corporation (ITPI), the developer of Primavera Residences. It also advocates renewable energy production and aims to lessen the impact of real estate in the environment through principles of sustainable design and green architecture. Super structure, multiawarded eco-friendly design Primavera Residences is the premier green condominium in the country. It is internationally awarded due to its eco-friendly design that allows residents to save up to 32% in energy consumption because of the building’s natural ventilation and heat reduction features. The structure of Primavera Residences is also designed to withstand strong earthquakes, typhoons, and other natural calamities, while its elevated location at 110 meters above sea level makes it flood-free and ideal for safe, hassle-free, and convenient eco-friendly living. SCG-Mariwasa launches alternative biomass project to benefit typhoon victims T hough it has almost been a year since typhoon Yolanda hit the country, many are still struggling to rebuild, including the municipality of Lawaan in Eastern Samar. To help those affected by the typhoon, SCG and its subsidiary, Mariwasa, has partnered with the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery (OPARR) and the Lawaan local government to create a program that can benefit this municipality. This project, which will be the very first of its kind as part of the country’s rehabilitation efforts post typhoon Yolanda, aims to gather all the uprooted coconut trees caused by the typhoon and use them as an alternative source of energy. “Lawaan was badly affected by Typhoon Yolanda, where the extent of the damage that happened in other areas, such as Tacloban, happened to us as well. Many lives were lost and our entire infrastructure was damaged. Moreover, the environment of the area was

Panfilo Lacson, Sr. Secretary of OPARR (3rd from right) after the Memorandum of Understanding signing, along with (from left to right) Hon. Candida Eligio Garbornes, Mayor of the Municipality of Lawaan, Mr. Sunchai Jindasri, President of SCG Marketing Philippines, Ms. Emilie Maramag, Vice President for Finance & Admin of Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc., and Undersecretary Danilo A. Antonio, Business and Civil Society Organization Unit of OPARR.

also affected, with hectares of coconut trees that were uprooted and damaged as well,” shared Hon. Candida Eligio Garbornes, Mayor of the Municipality of Lawaan in Eastern Samar. The uprooted coconut trees are a concern for Lawaan because as these trees

decompose, they will attract insects in the area, which will destroy the crops and farming lands of the locals. With an estimated 356, 580 damaged coconut trees in the region, locals have resorted to burning the felled trees, which is detrimental to the environment. The project

will enjoin the communities in Lawaan to clear vast areas of felled trees. With the help of SCG-Mariwasa in providing the necessary tools and vehicles for clearing and transportation, the coconut trees will be delivered to Mariwasa to be transformed into a usable resource which

will power Mariwasa’s plants while helping sustain Lawaan’s environment. “The partnership will be a big help for Lawaan since there are so many aspects that we need to focus on and rehabilitate. This project will help clear the debris and maintain the natural balance of the environment in the area,” shared Hon. Garbornes. In addition to helping the municipality’s environment, SCG-Mariwasa takes a step further by sharing its commitment in education and youth development in Lawaan. As compensation for the felled coconut trees that will be used to fuel its plant, the company will be giving construction materials to rebuild schools and day-care centers. “SCG has always been committed in not just protecting the environment but in the development of the youth. We believe that giving building and construction materials for the rehabilitation of the schools and day-care centers is among

the most important things to do for now because we believe that our children’s education should not be compromised but be lifted especially in these hard times,” shared Mr. Phaskorn Buranawit, President of Mariwasa Siam Ceramics, Inc. This project aims to not just rebuild schools that were devastated by typhoon Yolanda but to help improve the facilities and make them disaster-resilient. Some facilities include classrooms, skills training centers, bathrooms, and covered gyms. The project will also build day-care centers in the hard-to-reach barangays of Lawaan. “Truly, nothing is more rewarding than having everyone from different sectors contribute for this project with a common objective- recovery and to return to normal life. With OPARR and the LGUs, we hope this endeavor will help our fellowmen to recover and start a new life,” said Mr. Buranawit.

That means the PSA of SRPI and Zamcelco now has a legal basis,” Conti said. He added the approved PSA will be presented to banks where SRPI have applied for loans totaling $290 million for the plant construction. He said the loans compr is e 70 p ercent of the project cost. SRPI will shoulder the remaining 30 percent. The plant will be constructed in a 30-hectare area inside the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in Sitio San Ramon, Barangay Talisayan. George Ledesma, Zamcelco general manager, said the approval of the power sale agreement was a welcome development for the cooperative. Ledesma said the plant will help solve local power shortage especially dur i ng t he d r y mont hs due to lower water level at Mindanao’s hydropower plants. For the past years, Zamcelco had been implementing rotational blackouts of four to eight hours daily during summer due to insufficient power supply from the Mindanao grid.

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). “With a more detailed geographic information, we aim to assist Bangsamoro development planners and leaders in implementing strategic and balanced peace and development initiatives in Mindanao,” Niwa said in a statement. The new GIS database was derived from the data sets produced by the JICA project on Topographic Mapping for Peace and Development in Mindanao. GIS database refers to geographically referenced data that utilizes software to analyze specific information, and is being used by advanced countries in decision-making and in analyzing quantifiable data. In the case of the Bangsamoro GIS database, information such as socio-economic data, transportation, and road networks, as well as land conditions, were analyzed and updated. The GIS database was updated with a standard scale of 1:50,000, which means that they are more detailed than the 1:200,000 scale maps in Mindanao in the 1960s. JICA also provided the BDA staff with capacity building support in using the GIS system. It noted that the GIS would be useful in the spatial analysis work for the forthcoming Bangsamoro Development Forum in November this year. Dr Saffrullah Dipatuan, BDA chair, thanked JICA for the assistance, saying that the GIS will help them in various peace and development projects for Mindanao’s conflict-affected areas, as well as in promoting inclusive growth in the region. Last year, as part of Japan’s

assistance to peace and development, JICA, together with the National Mapping and Resources Information Authority and the Mindanao Development Authority, updated the 50-year old Mindanao topographic maps. Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe presented the map to President Benigno S. Aquino III during the former’s visit to Manila. The establishment of the Bangsamoro region is the key feature of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the final peace deal between the government and the MILF. The Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), the charter that would govern the Bangsamoro, has been submitted by the Office of the President as a key legislative measure to Congress. Once approved by Congress and ratified by the constituents in the proposed territory, the Bangsamoro government will replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. JICA has been supporting peace and development initiatives in Mindanao with 707 community development and 32 infrastructure subprojects within the ARMM.

FDC Misamis is a subsidiary of FDC Utilities Inc, which holds the power and water assets of the Filinvest Group. The agreement between FDC Misamis and Buseco is for the supply of 8 megawatts (MW) for 15 years. Moresco I, on the other hand, tapped FDC Misamis for 22 MW for 25 years.

The final rates under the supply deals are subject to the approval of the regulator. FDC Misamis will supply power from the 405-MW coal plant it is developing in the Phividec Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental. The facility is slated for completion in 2016. The parties inked the supply agreements in light of the power supply deficiency in the Mindanao grid since 2010. More than half of the island’s power supply comes from hydroelectric plants, the operation of which depend highly on optimal weather and reservoir conditions. Based on the demand outlook from the Department of Energy, Mindanao would need 1,600 MW of additional c ap acit y f rom 2012 to 2030 to meet its electricity requirements.

In the recent 2014 Kabalikat Awards in which TESDA recognizes its partners, the provincial government of Agusan del Norte and the municipal government of Lugait in Misamis Oriental were awarded for the local government unit category. Gusa Science High School stude tops 1st Discovery Kids Science Fair By MikE BAñOS, Editor-at-Large

A

student from the Gusa Regional Science High School in Region X has topped the 1st Discovery Kids Science Fair sponsored by Parasat HD held at SM Cagayan de Oro last October 4, 2014. Yuvi Luardo won P5,000 cash, one (1) year free subscription to Parasat HD Premium and exclusive items from Discovery Kids TV Channel with her project “Use of Talisay Seed and Malunggay Seed Extract as Absorbent in the Removal of Lead Ion in Aqueous Solution.” A total of eight entries participated in the science fair: Ronnie M. Enriquez, Grade 9 at MOGCHS, Project: Collection of Rain for Watering the Plants; Zuriel John P. Baugbog, Christian School for Life, Project: The Dangers of Cigarette Smoking & Second-hand Smoke to the Human Lungs; Juan Paolo D. Tejero and Armando Raphael D. Tejero, Corpus Christi School, Project: Toy for All Boys; KC Cespedes, Gusa Regional Science High School – X, Project: Solar power battery charger; Roselle Driz, Gusa Regional Science High School – X, Project: Dried gmelina (gmelina arborea) drupes as kindling; John Benedict Lamorin, Gusa Regional Science High School – X, Project: Saltwater-Powered Lamp or Flashlight; and Lorenzo Dablo, Gusa Regional Science High School – X; Project: Flood Alarm System. All eight finalists received exclusive items from Discovery Kids. The panel of judges was composed of Engr. Elpidio M. Paras, president and CEO of UC-1 Corporation, the holding company of the Parasat Group of Companies; Region X Science and Technology Director Alfonso P. Alamban and Michelangelo Du, business development officer at CAPICOR. “Some of the projects were not original but okay as a showcase for others,” Dir. Alamban noted. “We hope to partner with them, especially for our Regional Inventions Contest & Exhibits (RICE) next year so that we can cover all levels.” The criteria for judging included Originality (40%), Presentation and Creativity (30%) and Social Relevance (30%). Plus points from 1-5 were also awarded for entries which met certain other criteria. “Discovery Kids Science Fair”, is the brainchild of siblings Rina Victorio and Geli Paras, daughters of Cagayan de Oro’s local version of Leonardo da Vinci, Engr. Elpidio Magbag Paras. “We observed that young school children hardly get any real exposure to science projects while they are in grade school,” noted Rina, President and General Manager of Parasat Cable TV Inc. who has two children Tia, 8 and Lala, 2. “So Geli and I thought of sponsoring this science fair for children aged 6-14 years.” “Our educational system has forgotten the basics like rousing children’s interest in science and creative ability. In the United States, grade school students are asked to submit investigative projects and compete in school science fairs. At an early age, students are exposed to field trips to various

museums and science venues,” Engr. Paras noted. “It’s a good thing that they included grade school and had a winner for the youngest inventor,” Dir. Alamban said. “That will inspire innovative thinking at an early age.” The competition encourages parents to have their kids regularly watch the Discovery Kids, Channel 56 on Parasat’s Silver subscription package. Discover Kids (Asia) has programs such as “Did You Know?”, “Science Trivia” and “Adventures for Kids” which encourages grade school children to have interactive experience with science and its related fields.

Discovery Kids is an Asian satellite and cable TV channel which provides children’s programs aimed at children aged four to 12 years and their parents. It focuses on programs that entertain and educate helping kids develop cognitive, social, emotional and personal skills. It is owned and operated by Discovery Networks Asia, a division of Discovery Communications. It is located at Channel 56 of Parasat’s Silver subscription package. Selected Discovery Kids shows are also broadcast on Discovery Channel on weekends.

Fajardo on FIBA World Cup: Lessons from five days in Spain A cup of rice in Seville would have worked wonders for the hardworking Gilas Pilipinas, as far as June Mar Fajardo was concerned. With practices and tuneup games becoming more difficult in the runup to the FIBA World Cup on Aug. 30, Fajardo said he needed the basic Filipino staple to help him recharge since the scrimmages were physically exhausting. “We had good food while we were training in France, and later on in Seville,” Fajardo said in Filipino during a recent interview in Manila days after he flew in from Spain. “But after a few hours, I would feel hungry again. I wanted a cup of rice to go with the food.” He recalled with a laugh that the rice he tried when the team was in France was “malamig (cold),” far from the steaming cup he gets served wherever he went in the Philippines. The team’s training in Miami, where they met naturalized center Andray Blatche for the first time, was bearable because after a hard practice at the gym,

he had rice to go with the food. But when the team moved across the Atlantic, the change became tough for Fajardo. To add a semblance of rice in his diet, he made omelets with tomatoes and onions which he paired with the food. He said he made do with the substitute, though he still longed for rice. On a serious note though, the reigning PBA Most Valuable Player, who plays for the San Miguel Beermen, has nothing but gratitude for his inclusion to the lineup. He said he learned a lot of things while training with the national team. The team’s purpose wasn’t lost on Fajardo, who fans call the “Kraken,” as he discussed how each member knew by heart they were fighting for a basketball-crazy nation. He said making the selection for a team who’s making a return to the international scene after four decades was an achievement by itself already. “When you’re there at the international stage, you

only have to give everything you have because you might not have another chance at competing in that kind of tournament,” Fajardo pointed out. With arguably the smallest lineup stacked up against the best of the world, the Beerman said he was expecting the team to get steamrolled in the first round. But to everyone’s surprise, the Philippines put up a brave stand, losing four games by an average of six points before escaping with a victory against Senegal. For Fajardo, the toughest team the Philippines faced was Argentina because of the South American nation’s strategy of sticking to the “fundamentals” of the game. He said each Argentine player knew where were ought to be when running plays on offense as well as setting up on defense. There was certainty in every step, Fajardo described.

“At the start of the shootaround, I could have just sat down at the bench and watched them practice,” Fajardo said. He admired Argentine big man Luis Scola who was among the players he defended. He said Scola had great footwork which allowed him to be at the right place at the right time. Fajardo said he was

looking forward to the upcoming PBA conference where he hopes to showcase his new skills on the hard court. He admitted that bringing a championship trophy to the Beermen remains the team’s top priority. “The team is hungry to win a championship. We have the next tournament to do better,” he said.

When he came home on Sept. 7, the first thing he asked was a cup of rice and sinigang, which he ate later in the day. Had there been rice in Seville, did Gilas have a chance to win another game considering the close margin? “Oo naman, siyempre,” Fajardo retorted with a laugh.
