GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY! http://www.chinkeetan.com/ with that woman, I just had oral sex.” We can justify whatever we’ve done but at the end of the day, you know your conscience knows what is right and wrong. Believe me; been there done, that!

TAN by CHINKEE

Have you done something in the past that still haunt you until this day? You are having a hard time moving on in life because it is bothering your conscience. This is what we call as ‘GUILT.” Do you want to get rid of the feeling of guilt? ADMIT THAT YOU ARE WRONG. Admission is the first step, but it is the hardest. For so many years, you’ve been standing for what you believed in. But not everything we believe is right. That is the reason we reached this stage because we may live in PRIDE. DO NOT JUSTIFY YOUR WRONG DOING. Black is black, white is white. We conveniently call UNFAITHFULNESS as an “EXTRA MARITAL AFFAIR”, rather than calling it ‘ADULTERY.” We conveniently call CHEATING as “SOP (STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE)”, rather than calling it ‘BRIBERY.” We conveniently call ROBBERY as “ADVANCING OUR SALARY” rather than calling it ‘STEALING.” Just like what President Clinton stated to the American people, “I did not have sexual relations

STOP BLAMING OTHERS FOR YOUR WRONG DOING “Honestly, it’s not my fault. I was just forced to do it. I had no choice!” Nothing happens by accident, everything happen by the choices we made. We choose to give in to our personal pleasure and desire, rather than choosing to be faithful to your spouse. We choose to talk back and disrespect our parents, rather than honouring them. We choose to lie to cover our mistakes, rather than telling the truth. We choose to hate people, live in anger, and bitterness, rather than forgiving to live in peace. No one makes us do anything. ASK FOR FORGIVENESS FOR THE WRONG THINGS YOU’VE DONE Doing something wrong can stain us. It is just like having a permanent mark on your clothes. No matter how many times you try to wash it off, it leaves an indelible ink. It does not only leave s a stain on the outside but also the inside; in our heart and in our mind. FROM OTHERS In order for us to regain the peace of mind and heart, we need to humble ourselves and ask forgiveness from the people we’ve hurt; no matter what the consequence it might bring. It is a bitter pill that you and I need to swallow. We just got to swallow our pride and BEG for their forgiveness. If they do not receive your apology, just give them

time, never give up. After all, it was us who caused the pain and affliction. We just need to honor their space and feelings. Remember, time heals all wounds. FROM GOD Without God there will be no forgiveness of sins. The only way that we can achieve eternal peace is when can have peace with our eternal God. The Holy Spirit in our lives is speaking, prompting, and reminding us daily to do what is right. So we must be sensitive enough to hear and obey to make this right. But God’s love is demonstrated by forgiving us our sins; He deletes it from his memory bank forever. God remembers our sins no more. As far as He is concern, they are gone. The stain is removed; the guilt is taken away. We are cleansed by his grace. If God can do that for us, what gives us the right to pet our guilt and sin? Do not take my word for it; believe in the promise of God. He has removed our lawless acts from us as far as the east is from the west. Psalms 103:12 For I will be merciful to their wrongdoing and I will never again remember their sins. Hebrews 8:12 Now, you have a decision that you need to make today. Live in guilt for the rest of your life or live in peace by accepting what God is offering you and me, today? Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20

A sunlight called Bridgette and the promise of eternity “Like sunlight, sunset, we appear, we disappear. We are so important to some, but we are just passing through.” - Before Midnight (2013) IN a secular world, it is not easy to find someone who continues to preach the Gospel even while already in the workplace. Sure, worshiping the Almighty is usually done on Sundays (others do it on Saturdays and Fridays). It is at this day where we go to prayer meetings and we do not worry about the workloads that we leave behind during the weekend. Monday is a different thing. For office workers, it’s back chitchatting in the office again. I have observed lots

of Christians whom you never know they are that religious because their stiff demeanors are usually akin to their professions. They are doctors, office workers, City Hall employees, etc. During weekdays, they maintain working personas. It’s only during prayer meetings and worship sessions that they inhibit themselves and talk about God. The same goes with students. During weekdays, they talk about waves and oscillations, pumps and hydraulic devices, CE transistor amplifiers, etc. It’s only during weekends or in cell prayer meetings after class that they converse about God. But there are some people

who exude God wherever they go. Mind you, these aren’t preachers. They are day-to-day people grinding day-to-day lives. Take Bridgette for instance. Bridgette is a community organizer from Davao City. I met her in CDO last Tuesday. She was chitchatting and narrating about how her group has reached out to the underprivileged youth in Davao region through encouraging them to excel in the performing arts so they could have a diversion from delinquent activities. The group calling itself New Breed of Force is encouraging underprivileged kids to hone their talents and organizes con-

certs for them. Everybody is welcome, whether he or she is a Christian or a Muslim. There’s no Gospel preaching involved. That is why Bridgette tells me that parents of these kids approve of what she’s doing. But despite that, I can clearly see the Christian in her. Bridgette is now 24 and happily married to a Christian like her. But way way back when she was still at the tender young age of 18, she’s already passionate about all the concerns around her. When she joined Mutya ng Dabaw in 2008, her pet project was to organize activities for the empowerment of abused women and children. It’s been six years after the

Chefs’ War Story & Photos By IRENE DAYO

S

tudent chefs coming from Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro (CIC) battled in culinary competitions during the 4th edition of Chef ’s War, a clash of talents in preparing, cooking and presentation of food, held at Centrio Mall last November 10, 2014. The Chefs’ War started four years ago, the time CIC started its school year. Chefs’ War is to expose the talents of the students and to test the acquired learning they gained during their months of schooling. In CIC, students can acquire diploma in at most, nine months of attending sessions. One can receive Diploma in Intensive Culinary Arts with Holistic Nutrition in just four-and-a half month of attending Thursday and Friday sessions and also, Diploma in Culinary Arts with Holistic Nutrition in nine months on either Friday or Sunday sessions. In an interview with event organizing lead and CIC Marketing Head Restie J. Garcia, the Chefs’ War is to enhance the culinary skills of the students. It is also to reintroduce CIC and its high quality programs to the public. CIC is

the first culinary school in Northern Mindanao and Chefs’ War is one flagship event that opens their uniqueness as the first culinary school in Region X. Co-organizer Clarisa Jane J. Baldelovar also said that the event is as well to put focus on developing the abilities of the students. The school is participating in Kumbira, a Mindanao-wide culinary event. This time, instead of pulling two or three students, Chefs’ War focused on CIC students. There are four kinds of competition during the event. First is the table setting that battled three groups of baking students. In this contest, students are required to set the table in romantic way, having its theme, “Romantic Dinner for Two.” Battle of the Champions composing on Mystery Basket Challenge also took place on Chefs’ War. Winners from year 2013 and 2014 clashed for championship. Moreover, four groups coming from Batch E or Baking E class battled in another category, the cake off competition. Four

non-edible cake-entries were displayed in the Centrio Mall activity area and these were judged through its design, neatness, originality and its adherence to the theme, “Paskong Kagay-anon.” CIC alumni and former champion Michael Vincent Uy and Pastry chefs coming from Manila that include Chef Nadine Madrigal, Chef Malou Caudal and Chef Hasset Go, were invited to judge the cake off challenge and as well, the cook off. In the cook off challenge, on the other hand, top ten trios selected from 28 groups participated. The challenge centered on the theme Fusion of Filipino and Japanese Cuisines. Each group was required to produce three dishes: appetizer, main course and dessert in about one and a half hour. All of them were provided with ingredients and gas stoves and tanks sponsored by Petron Gasul. Top 3 were selected after the specified time. Groups 2, 7, and 8 emerged as top 3 respectively, receiving gift prizes from sponsors, cash prizes, plaques and medals. Group 8 also bagged all the Best Plated Appetizer, Best Plated Main Course and Best Plated Dessert. T h e y w e r e

then competed with the last year’s Chefs’ War cook off challenge champions, creating Battle of the Champions. This was the twist that surprised the students since all top 10 groups were not informed of beforehand. In the end, Group 8 still emerged as the winner in the Battle of the Champions. The group is composed of members coming from Batches I-9 and I-10, in the name of Dr. Marco Paulo D. Culala, Dazel Lee C. Estrada and Gertrude V. Alovera. They were given gift prizes specifically 11-kilogram tank, two burner stove and one original hose from Petron Gasul each. They also received, cash prizes, plaques and medals. For cake off challenge, Groups 3, 4 and 1 made it to the top 3. Group 1 composed of student chefs Marverette Bajarla, Ma. Donna Ravidas and Teresa Laplana was also awarded as Centrio Mallers’ Choice Award. The winner group was selected t h r o u g h the votes by Centrio Mall shoppers and goers, who also got free cupcake as a token for voting. Further, Best in CHEFWARS | Page B2

CIC Batch E displayed their non-edible cakes at Centrio mall activity area last November 10, 2014, to expose their cakes’ design. Mall goers were invited to vote to what cake favored their eyes. They are given free cupcakes as token for giving time to vote. Cake off challenge is one of the competitions conducted in CIC annual culinary showdown, Chefs’ War.

Group 8 is working on their output dishes during the Battle of the Champions. They competed against 2013 champion.
