X-Trail CDO launch: it’s just the beginning By MARK FRANCISCO Assistant Lifestyle Editor

NISSAN Philippines president Antonio Zara said that launching the X-Trail in its exclusive Cagayan de Oro dealership is just the beginning. Speaking during the new third generation Nissan X-Trail roadshow at Limketkai Rotunda over the weekend, Zara announced that Nissan Philippines will introduce more gimmicks and more launches in 2015 to the Mindanao market that would emanate from Cagayan de Oro. “Northern Mindanao is a key part of our Philippine market. That’s why we’ll be back here more often,” Zara said to the smiling crowd of bankers, insurance representatives and media present during the Mindanao launch of Nissan X-Trail.

With a rallying tagline The X You’ll Never Get Over, Nissan X-Trail is showing off its style and muscle in hues of pearl white, diamond black, brilliant silver, fiery red and copper blaze. First introduced in 2003, the X-Trail has long been the choice of many Filipnos because of its versatility, unique design and capability. It mixes bold lines with a muscular body to create a look that can only be matched by its stunning onand off-road performance. With bold lines and powerful curves, the All New X-Trail adopts the V motion front grille design to be the brand’s visual presence and exudes a more modern, crossover look with an undeniably imposing muscular stance. It also has a sleek, new boomerangshaped head and tail lamps See x-trail, page B2

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WINNER & A LOSER http://www.chinkeetan.com/

TAN by CHINKEE

Have you ever wished that you will always win in everything you do? Everything that you touch turns into gold. If you really want to win that bad, this is a question I would like you to answer today, “Are you thinking like a winner or a loser?” What really sets apart winners and losers is how they think. Our mindset is so powerful that it can affect the way we think, feel, and the choices we make in life. If we don’t have the right mindset, left on our own to think, we are on our road to disaster and failure. It is more natural for us to think about the bad rather than the good; to think about losing rather than winning; to think about negative rather than the positive; to think about the bad rather than the good. It is so natural for us to win. That is why we need extra effort to think like a winner. Winning in life does not come automatically, but it only comes from a

deliberate and strategic way of thinking. Here are my personal observations: Losers are focus on the problem while winners focus on the solution. Losers make excuses while winners take responsibility. Losers wait for things to happen while winners make things happen. Losers are selfish while winners are selfless. Losers love to grumble while winners are grateful. Losers are sore-losers while winners are great sportsman. Losers “Try” while winners “Do whatever it takes.” Losers live and blame their past while winners live in the present and believes in the future. Whatever difficulties or challenges you may be facing today; this is the day that we need to choose; to think like a winner to think like a loser. If you want to accomplish your dreams and goals in life, get a clear mental image of who you want to become rather than the other way around. Let us stop living in the past mistakes; stop worrying about the future; start living in the present. That is why another name for “Present” is “Gift”. Let us THINK to win, CHOOSE to win and LIVE to win! THINK. REFLECT. APPLY Do you want to get out of the losing streak? What does it take for you to become a winner? Are your mind, heart, body, and soul prepared for your Victory? “The new X-Trail is both a beauty to behold and an efficient vehicle ready for the road, making it the embodiment of Nissan’s innovation,” Zara added.

Cagayan de Oro has decided to merge the elementary and secondary categories because based from past experience, the drum and lyre corps of sixth graders can already compete with their high school counterparts. Defending champion Sto. Niño High School of

Dangcagan, Bukidnon was knocked off to third place while Pilgrim Christian College Drum and Lyre Corps came in second. Raking in P50,000, the Pilgrim Christian College troops led by Ella Santander deemed the feat a double victory as they are celebrating this week their 66th anniversary. The Pilgrimians also

grabbed as Most Disciplined Group while their competitors from Sto. Niño High School managed to snatch the Best in Choreography. Sto. Niño High School got a total of P25,000. The rest of the participating corps – Tagoloan Central School, Indahag Elementary School, Iligan City Central School and Bongbongon Elementary School (Kauswagan, Cagayan

de Oro City) – went home with P5,000 consolation prizes each. CDONHS was awarded a total of P75,000. Led by president Herminio Bañados Jr., the Rotary Club of South Cagayan de Oro was created in 1981. It has been in their tradition to host a drum and lyre competition in the city every year.

‘Listahang Patubig’ to improve water mngt, regulate water use nationwide By Cheng Ordoñez and Mark Francisco

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- A national survey that will map out water service utilities and providers in provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays will be conducted to determine the extent of water service coverage and water system condition nationwide. Dubbed as “Listahang Patubig,” the national survey aims to enhance the regulation of water users and improve the overall management of water resources in the country. It shall be jointly implemented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the National Water Resources Board and the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and shall cover Levels I to III water supply systems in 81 provinces, 143 cities, 1,491 municipalities and 42,028 barangays nationwide. During the recent signing here of the tripartite agreement among the three agencies and launching of the program, Interior Under-

secretary Austere Panadero said the data generated in Listahang Patubig will be very useful to concerned agencies and local government units (LGUs) in planning how to reach out to municipalities and barangays that still lack access to safe drinking water and in sustaining and improving water management of those areas with water supply coverage. “We all want to increase the access to potable and affordable water to people especially the vulnerable groups in the community by providing better water service delivery and improving water management in LGUs,” Panadero said. “The survey will also help identify water point sources and location and potential danger areas for over-extraction of ground water where watershed development efforts are needed to sustain water resources,” he added. Under the agreement, the National Water Resources Board will set up and maintain

Listahang Patubig’s web-based database system, where basic data from the water service utilities will be made available to users. LWUA shall enjoin water districts and rural water supply and sanitation associations to participate in the national survey by filling out the survey forms and encoding them in the website. For its part, DILG shall instruct LGUs to appoint

staff to oversee the survey activities, identify all the water service providers and encode data of water service providers with no Internet access to the website. The initiative is supported by World Bank’s (WB) Water and Sanitation Program and the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Water for Resilient Economic Growth and Stability (Be Secure) project.

The original stolen shot

IT was one fine Saturday morning in August 2011. I woke up early and by 7:00 a.m. I was already in Divisoria. The occasion? It was the yearly fiesta parade in CDO…at least, the secular part of it as far as the annual St. Augustine fiesta is celebrated. As usual, there were the doses of floats and band majorettes and civic groups who want to be recognized. Of course, there were the government officials, the police contingent, the CAT and ROTC teams from each school and college whose presence there I suppose is compliance to attendance on a weekend morning. And then there were the photographers. When you see a photographer whose beauty and pulchritude is in the wrong side of the camera, that easily attracts your attention. There was this lady in black who was so darn beautiful snapping pictures here and there along the parade route that she easily caught my eye.

She had this black T-shirt with a statement announcing that she’s a photography enthusiast. She was with a few friends at the time who were also taking pictures just like her. When I looked at her face, the first thing that came to my mind was that she deserves more than taking pictures – she should be in front of the camera. So I started discreetly taking pictures of her while she was taking pictures of the parade participants. After the whole parade thing was over, I went back to the office and browsed my shots. Because of her intense beauty, I was really curious about who she was and so I zoomed in on the picture. It so happened that the lady had slung her ID around her neck but it so happened too that only the ID’s back was shown. So I zeroed in on the “PERSON TO CONTACT FOR EMERGENCY” and stumbled upon the letters “OLLADA”.

Her name happens to be JONAH BELLE OLLADA and according to her profile, she is a Devcom student at XU at the time. That was in 2011. Fast forward to 2013, the Oro Bankers had their yearly sportsfest and one of their signature events was the annual Miss Oro Bankers. The pageant occurred at Xavier University Gym in October 13 that year. I chanced upon the poster of the activity and one of the candidates featured there looked strikingly familiar. I could not recall where and when I had seen her but the beautiful face just crossed my mind. Then I browsed the label – JONAH BELLE OLLADA – BDO. Oh well, ‘twas the same lady covering the parade two years back. And she’s now a professional. The pageant went on and Jonah Belle was crowned Miss

HE wild cheers of BDO employees reverberated across the 700-seater Rodelsa Hall as the bank was able to defend its Miss Oro Bankers title with the win Friday of 20-yearold Imie Rose Zaluaga as Miss Oro Bankers 2014. Although Miss Oro Bankers 2013 Jonah Belle Ollada is from BDO-JR Borja Cogon while Zaluaga is assigned at BDOVelez, it is still a big win for BDO-NorthMin that night which fielded three candidates that night. Zaluaga impressed the judges who confronted the hopefuls with the same question: “Give at least three ways to describe a woman in a corporate world.” It was Zaluaga’s brief but precise answer which nailed it home: “A woman in a corporate world must have the ability, the confidence and the talents.” For that, Zaluaga received a plaque, certificate, sash, Pyrce Plaza gift certificate, Myra 300E gift checks and Natasha goodies. Ollada relinquished her tiara to her colleague. Zaluaga was also named Best in Shorts Attire and Best in Pilgrim Christian College band majorette Ella Santander struts her winning stuff.

Long Gown, where she donned a beautiful yellow piece from the prince of haute couture himself, Gil Macaibay III. Zaluaga is no stranger to beauty pageants. In 2012, she was crowned as Miss Villanueva Gold during the town’s 50th anniversary. She really is a native of that municipality, having spent her secondary years at Villanueva National High School. Zaluaga moved to Xavier University during her tertiary years, achieving a degree in Business Administration major in Financial Management only last March. Due to her wit, she was immediately accepted to the BDO fold. And due to her beauty, she ran and was crowned BDO-NorthMin last August. The rest of course is history. But will history continue repeating itself? Is it conceivable that Mik-mik or Mikay (as she is fondly called) will enter the Miss Cagayan de Oro 2015 competition? For now, we just have to wait. Meanwhile, completing Zaluaga’s court are first runner-up Edda Lim (Metrobank), second runner-up Erika Galceran
