Welcome to year seven! Storytelling has never been more vital than right now. In a fast pace world where we make critical decisions based on bite size news summaries, where freedom of speech in so many places equals imprisonment. Sharing stories is and must continue to be an essential part of any democracy. It should be our obligation to listen and observe the world through the eyes of another. We must elevate and celebrate narratives outside our own box in order to counteract non-inclusive forces. In this Fringe’s seventh year, there have been many new important and exciting developments, from team expansion to the birth of a Nordic Fringe Network. The response to collaborate with and participate in the festival has been overwhelming. We believe in promoting the local through the global crossing borders with stories and taking a good look at ourselves by peaking through the rugged fence. This year’s programme offers stories from: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Sweden, Taiwan, UK, USA and Wales. Join us and immerse yourselves in experiencing a world on the Fringe that rapidly grows on a foundation built of untamed tales from near and far.

Venues BIO RIO Bio Rio is one of very few remaining single theatre cinemas from the 1940’s. The original interior is unique and has received Carl XVI Gustaf’s (King of Sweden) and regional government funding to aid the restoration of the cinemas original state. Södra Teatern is Stockholm’s oldest active theatre, constructed in 1859 . The stage is predominantly used for music rather than drama performances these days. THE NORDIC FRINGE NETWORK A Nordic Notion The Nordic Fringe Network (NFN) is a new initiative aiming to simplify systems and provide economical touring opportunities for artists applying to one or more of the Fringe festivals in the Nordic region. So far, the NFN includes Stockholm, Gothenburg and the up-and-coming Norway Fringe (which is planning on having its pilot festival in 2017). We are hoping that it will also serve as a support system for other Nordic organisations wanting to establish Fringe festivals in their regions. Looking at the world through the eyes of another - the inspiration for this years visual campaign.
Portraiture has always been an interest of mine. Moving to London introduced me to so many new people and new cultures, it was hard not to be inspired by that. I would like to think that my photography shows that diversity, not just in London but in every community. The LGBT community especially has so much to offer in terms of talent and I would love to help showcase that. That’s my plan.
From the chats I’ve had with the STOFF team regarding what the Stockholm Fringe Festival represents, the following question seemed the most poignant: ‘how differently would we view the world if we really could see through the eyes of another?’ We agreed that it could be fun - for all involved - to play with this theme in a literal sense. A clear message, delivered as a really striking and interesting visual. We wanted a lighthearted way to get people considering something important. For the shoot, we’ve only just skimmed the surface. Remi and I have chatted about the possibility of delving more deeply into this theme for future projects. I’ve loved working with the STOFF team again. It’s a bit of a privilege to be invited back - as well as a fun challenge. I’ve found a new collaborator in Remi. We discovered that we both thrive on ‘thinking outside the box’ when budget and time are tight. www.leesimmons.me

Stockholm Fringe Festival (stoff) is a six day multidisciplinary arts festival, acting as a ‘stage’ for local and international artists to present their innovative work ranging from performance to installation art and anything in between. The festival stands for artistic freedom and focuses on out-of-the-box and “alternative” works that may not fit into mainstream performance or exhibition spaces. STOFF is a chance for arts practitioners to test new ideas, network and collaborate with other artists, develop work, and get inspired by many different creative expressions. Not only is STOFF about encouraging emerging artists who are developing their craft but also welcomes established groups and individuals whose work promotes innovative work practices. Through international guest appearances like The Infernal Comedy with John Malkovich, Mykki Blanco, and Forced Entertainment, the festival wishes to bridge the gap between the established and the emerging.
