September 15, 2019 9:30 a.m., Sanctuary It has been said that the unhappiest people aren’t unbelievers, but those who claim to be Christian but do not commit their whole lives to Christ. As followers of Jesus we are set apart. No matter how raw and ordinary our life may appear, we have in us the stuff of beauty. We may be buried in the world, but when we choose faith, we start a process of getting dug out.

In the midst of a world where people are abused and oppressed, God calls for radical compassion and justice. In the midst of a world filled with wars and rumor of war, Our, creator, sustainer, and redeemer desires nothing less than peace for the world. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Johnson, arranger | Salt & Light Choir Thee we adore, O hidden Savior, thee, Who in thy sacrament are pleased to be; Both flesh and Spirit in thy presence fail, Yet here they presence, we devoutly hail. Fountain of goodness, Jesus, Lord and God: Cleanse us, unclean, with thy most cleansing blood; Increase our faith and love, that we may know The hope and peace which from thy presence flow. O Christ, whom now beneath a veil we see: May what we thirst for soon our portion be, To gaze on thee unveiled, and see thy face, The vision of thy glory and thy grace. Amen.

This fall we launch our latest church-wide initiative, the Arts Foundation of St. Andrew, with the mission, “Enriching Spirituality through the Power of the Arts.” Consisting of five wings, the Arts Foundation offers opportunities in arts education, performing arts, visual arts, language arts, and community arts to support the St. Andrew mission of calling the Christian-ish to become passionate servants of Christ. Just as the blacksmithing process transforms metal through perseverance and craftsmanship, the Arts Foundation offers ways of transforming your faith through dedication and artistry.

DUG OUT “No matter how raw and ordinary our life may appear, we have in us the stuff of beauty.” “Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, life to everything.” – Plato We are capable of so much in our lives – nothing is impossible. Some things just need proper nurturing and time. Aptitude for a certain skill is nothing more than a passion fueling the dedication and commitment required to foster that skill’s development. When it comes to learning music, everyone is more than good enough, capable enough. Instead, it’s about igniting the passion to fuel the desire to learn, because anyone can sing; anyone can read music. In the Arts Education wing, the Arts Foundation works to instill this passion for music. Through education, we foster understanding and ultimately promote appreciation. The complexity of the arts only adds to the enjoyment one feels in studying music. As this series demonstrates, the greater the struggle, the greater the reward. Music is worth the struggle. Let the Arts Foundation help you enrich your spiritual journey through the power of the arts. standrewumc.org/arts 4
