Split sea

July 7, 2019 9:30 a.m., Sanctuary

As Pharaoh drew closer, the Israelites looked back and saw the Egyptians marching toward them.

It would have been better for us to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!

Don’t be afraid! Stand your ground. Watch the Lord rescue you today!

2

The Lord said to Moses, Raise your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. The waters formed a wall for the Israelites on their right and on their left. The Egyptians went into the sea after them.

The Lord threw the Egyptians into a panic, jamming their chariot wheels so that they wouldn’t turn.

Let’s get away from the Israelites, because the Lord is fighting for them!

The Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the water comes back and covers the Egyptian army.

The sea returned to its normal depth and covered Pharaoh’s entire army. The people were in awe of the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.

CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP We Gather in God’s Name –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

PRELUDE | Grand Choeur Théodore Salomé, composer | Dr. Jonathan M. Gregoire, organist

*CALL TO WORSHIP When all seems right in our lives God is present, loving us. When grief overwhelms us, seeking to destroy our faith God is present, loving us. When we are in the wilderness, far from anything familiar God is present, loving us. When we stand at the sea and wonder how our faith will carry us across God is present, loving us. When we arrive at a new place of hope God is present, loving us. *OPENING HYMN | Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah 127 | Cwm Rhondda *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy +catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

OFFERTORY | The Pilgrim Church of God K. Lee Scott, composer | Chancel Choir Ensemble The pilgrim church of God, we mount the narrow way, we tread the path that Jesus trod, his call obey: to whom God sent his Son, to whom the Spirit came, who in the faith of Christ are one and in his Name.

*Please rise in body or spirit. 4

+In this instance, catholic means universal.

His word of life divine shall light and truth impart, and with immortal wisdom shine for mind and heart. So may we live and grow, this grace upon us poured, with heart and mind alike to know and serve the Lord. The work of grace fulfil while life and strength shall last, sustain your pilgrim people still till earth be past; until what grace began shall win its final way, and God complete his perfect plan in endless day. What though the way we tread be dark, or faith be dim? We look to Christ our risen Head and walk with him. So lead your children on in love and truth and grace, to come where Christ himself has gone and see his face.
