BLACK CEO’S BATTLE FOR HIS COMPANY AND REPUTATION RAISES QUESTION. ARE SUCCESSFUL BLACK FOUNDERS BEING FORCED OUT OF THEIR BUSINESSES? Brackeen denied the allegations and

It’s been a long year for Brian Brackeen. He is the founder of Kairos, a facial recognition technology company. Brackeen raised $13 million for Kairos and garnered heaps of publicity and accolades for steering his company to success. Yet, he was fired by his board of directors and then embroiled in a legal skirmish that turned nasty. Brackeen’s recent battle for his company and his very reputation stirs up troubling questions about white investors and their treatment of the black founders of companies in which they invest—when they do invest in black businesses, that is.

A DREAM GOD PHOTOGRAPHED AND DEVELOPED INTO REALITY!

2061 7th Avenue NY., NY Sunday-Saturday ~7am-12am 646-524-5899 Email:mommazee2@aol.com

During high school, sophomore thru senior years, I took an Home Economic Course which consisted of cooking classes. After high school I took a few culinary art courses. My very first job was at Saint Francis hospital as a cook and I loved it. I’ve always cooked for my family and friends with great pleasure. I believe that’s when I realized my greatest passion was cooking and baking.

MOMMA ZEE'S FOOD TO PLEZ DELI AND GROCERY STORE

Give us a quick background on you, like where you are from, your upbringing and backstory? My name is Excenia Mette (Foote) born and raised in Peoria Illinois by two wonderful people my mother Mary Cannon and my father Mayes Foote, who were great cooks. They were my inspiration. I always enjoyed watching them cook delicious meals and bake very tasty desserts. I can remember as a child we always had hot meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our friends would come to walk to school with us and of course they were able to sit down and have breakfast with us. These were the times when family meant the most, every holiday we had family fellowship with our grandparents, uncles aunts, and cousins. Christmas was the best and summer picnics in the park.

When did you decide to move to the Big Apple? I moved to New York City in my thirties, took an apartment on Lenox Ave, and began cooking outside my apartment, soul food, burgers, hot dogs, shrimp, and lemon cake. Many of my customers began to encourage me to have my own business. So, I began selling dinners out of my apartment and the cast members of Black Ink were my biggest customers, they loved my food. I later found out that my grandmother who I am named after Excenia Cannon (Williams) would sell dinners out of her house to pay her rent back in the day and wanted her own restaurant and store. My uncles Willie, Maynard, Charles, Cannon & Dobbie owned Cannon's Grocery Store in Peoria IL They also owned other businesses in Brooklyn, NY.

Friends and Family

I now realize the dream began with my grandmother and I was chosen to fulfill

always call me Zee or Zinie. My sisters would say

you’re not our mom or boss. Thus Momma Zee’s was

STUDY: GETTING SHOT BY POLICE IS A LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR BLACK MEN IN AMERICA. About 1 in 1,000 black men and boys in America can expect to die at the hands of police, according to a new analysis of deaths involving law enforcement officers. That makes them 2.5 times more likely than white men and boys to die during an encounter with cops. The analysis also showed that Latino men and boys, black women and girls and Native American men, women and children are also killed by police at higher rates than their white peers. But the vulnerability of black males drew researchers’ notice.“

That 1-in-1,000 number struck us as quite high,” said study leader Frank Edwards, a sociologist at Rutgers University. “That’s better odds of being killed by police than you have of winning a lot of scratch-off lottery games. ”The number-crunching by Edwards and his co authors also revealed that for all young men, police violence was one of the leading causes of death in the years 2013 to 2018.The findings, published this month in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, add hard numbers to a pattern personified by victims like Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Freddie Gray.

The Truth About Working and Balancing It All By Rosalyn L (@MsRosalynOfficial)

Your best individual work-life balance will vary over time, often on a daily basis. The right balance for you today will probably be different for you tomorrow. The right balance for you when you are single will be different when you marry, or if you have children; when you start a new career versus when you are nearing retirement.

There is no perfect, one-size fits all, balance you should be striving for. The best work-life balance is different for each of us because we all have different priorities and different lives. However, at the core of an effective work-life balance definition are two key everyday concepts that are relevant to each of us. They are daily Achievement and Enjoyment; ideas almost deceptive in their simplicity. Engraining a fuller meaning of these two concepts takes us most of the way to defining a positive Work-Life Balance. Achievement and Enjoyment answer the big question “Why?” Why do you want a better income…a new house…the kids through college…to do a good job today…to come to work at all? Most of us already have a good grasp on the meaning of Achievement. But let’s explore the concept of Enjoyment a little more. As part of a relevant Work-Life Balance definition, enjoyment does not just mean “Ha-Ha” happiness. It means Pride, Satisfaction, Happiness, Celebration, Love, A Sense of Well Being …all the Joys of Living.

Achievement and Enjoyment are the front and back of the coin of value in life. You can’t have one without the other, no more than you can have a coin with only one side. Trying to live a one sided life is why so many “Successful” people are not happy, or not nearly as happy as they should be. You cannot get the full value from life without BOTH Achievement and Enjoyment. Focusing on Achievement and Enjoyment every day in life, I think that’s true for all of us. Life will deliver the value and balance we desire …when we are achieving and enjoying something every single day…in all the important areas that make up our lives. As a result, a good working definition of Work-Life Balance is: Meaningful daily Achievement and Enjoyment in each and every way: Work, Family, Friends and Self .

Ask yourself now, when was the last time you Achieved AND Enjoyed something at work? What about Achieved AND Enjoyed with your family? your friends? And how recently have you Achieved AND Enjoyed something just for you? We focused so much on keeping everything together that we forget to ENJOY IT. Create your own best Work-Life Balance by making sure you not only Achieve, but also reflect the joy of the job, and the joy of life, every day. If nobody pats you on the back today, pat yourself on the back. And help others to do the same.

Breaking Out A RACIST STEREOTYPE Asked about the quickness of the white investors and board members to resort to publicly calling a black CEO a thief—a racist stereotype of African Americans, Brackeen has a few pointed words on the matter. “Founders of color and women are under-invested in,” he says. “For those that are able to overcome that huge hurdle, they are then squeezed from the other side. ”Brackeen points to examples where white founders engaged in egregiously crass behavior—think of Uber founder Travis Kalanick and the time he took his employees to an escort bar in Korea; when Uber violated the privacy of a woman who had been raped by an Uber driver in India; and other reported acts of bad behavior.Or Papa John’s founder and former CEO John Schnatter criticizing NFL players kneeling in protest during an earnings call, and also using the “nword” during a company conference call.It often takes time and a lot of PR nightmares before white founders are asked to resign from the companies they started.

In fact, The New York Times featured an article “Why Companies Like Uber Get Away With Bad Behavior?” with the observation that these [white] founders of successful startups are treated with kid gloves, even when they act out. And they are often allowed to resign, as in the case of Kalanick, and are hardly ever outright fired as Brackeen was. When it comes to founders of color, “We are either not getting great representation or we don’t have VC’s (venture capitalists) on our side,” says Brackeen.

BLACK FOUNDERS LESS VALUED, EVEN WHEN SUCCESSFUL He says that black founders are often seen as disposable to white investors and stakeholders. “There is a disrespectful assumption that somehow a black CEO’s success is luck and a white CEO’s success is of skill,” says Brackeen and that boards and investors may be of the thinking that a black founder or CEO is easier to replace. The disadvantages and bias founders of color face are why Brackeen is focused on Lightship Capital. “It’s a 20 million VC fund and a real estate fund—we are literally buying the block back,” he says.“I think Marc Andreessen has been very much on Mark Zuckerberg’s side,” says Brackeen. Andreessen is the co-founder of investment group Andreessen Horowitz which is a major Facebook investor. “Every single time there is a flare up at Facebook, and I have a lot of problems with Facebook, but surely as a way an investor treats their founder, Marc Andreessen has done right by Zuckerberg, even when [Zuckerberg] is wrong,” Brackeen says. That ‘ride-or-die’ investor/founder relationship is what Brackeen hopes to forge between Lightship Capital and black founders.“

Hamitic Covenant We will begin this lesson by defining the topic: Ham (son of Noah) Ham, (in Hebrew ‫חם)ם ם ם‬according to the Table of Nations in the Book of Genesis, was a son of Noah and the father of Cush, Mizraim, Phut and Canaan. Ham's descendants are interpreted by Flavius Josephus and others as having populated Africa.

The name Ham is a Hebrew baby name. The meaning of the name Ham is: Hot. One of the sons of Noah in the Old Testament: Father of a multitude. "Ham" also means many or multitude In the Old Testament patriarch Abram's name was changed to Abraham when it was revealed he would be father of the Hebrew nation. Abraham: At 99 years of age God made a covenant with him. See the stars in the sky? See the dust of the earth? He would make him a father of many nations. He changed his name from "Abram" to Abraham.

Hamitic /həəmidik/ of or denoting a hypothetical language family formerly proposed to comprise Berber, ancient Egyptian, the Cushitic languages, and the Chadic languages. These are now recognized as independent branches of the Afro-Asiatic family.

Covenant: Literally, a contract. In the Bible (see also Bible), an agreement between God and his people, in which God makes promises to his people and, usually, requires certain conduct from them. In the Old Testament, God made agreements with Noah, Abraham, and Moses. The first covenant was between God and Abraham. Jewish men are circumcised as a symbol of this covenant. You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.

‘‘ A study of history reveals not only were Hamitic people involved in the prophetic, but Hamitic seed was also on the throne of Israel and Judah.

COVENANT: (Affirmation)

Addresses the axiom or what is generally assumed as true of black men, lacking the affirmation that would give a sense of belonging. The negative connotations in reference to black men has become a lexicon America seems to rely on and appears to be the point of reference that paints every picture of black America. This hypothesis has been assumed by sociologist, psychologist, even theologians and other professionals. The Hamitic Covenant answers these questions in more definitive terms and proper context with an air of distinction that solemnly resolves the orphan heart with divine directions of original intent. To discover a covenant for a people held in such contempt, is a God send, only God could possibly tread such forbidden territory.

PURPOSE PURPOSE: (prophetic) The prophetic gifting is the third appointment in the three branches of the embryonic human family at its birth. It is third of the Priest (Shem), Japheth (King) and Ham (Prophet), it describes the nature and function in the history of the people of Israel. It also describes the make-up of Jesus Christ in His function and purpose in the earth, which include and represents all the peoples of the earth for which He died and rose. The prophetic in Ham is the only one of three branches of the human family that has not reached its potential or fulfillment. It was for this hour that God has saved and chose to reveal this gift, for it was always at the time of terminal and crisis that the prophets appeared.

This resolution points the way along a path that leads to ultimate utility and development that is absolutely awesome in the way it addresses with such balance and impartiality. A disclosure that was intentionally hidden for the purposes of exploitation and control, to establish a pseudo-superiority and dogma of supremacy even in the name of God is unconscionable. However, there is a covenant so rich in content, it resolves the problem of black men, while possessing the healing element of a nation. It is covenant that gives authority to the claims we make in our distinction, once this is understood, it becomes very clear black people don’t need the sanctioning of anyone else. They will in fact reveal what’s necessary to heal the nation and how they were used, while the theft of a republic went on.

It is this last day end time anguish that summons the gift of the prophet in calling people back to God. It was the appearance of the prophet when all else failed that he made his appearance with a direct, uninfluenced message from God. It is for this reason that the suffering of black people has been as long and the nature of it in preparation of divine purpose. However, it also connects with the ancient violation of divine order and the expiation which has been its cathartic value. The greatest discovery ever made, is discovery of purpose, it explains why we’re here, which comes from an appointment leading to an assignment. Without understanding purpose anything is subject to abuse and neglect. Without understanding covenant and inheritance it is easy to wander aimlessly without passion, direction or goal.

TRUTH INHERITANCE: (Identity)

.

Five years after police in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Mo., fatally shot Michael Brown, protesters and activist groups have focused public attention on the disproportionate use of force against African Americans and other people of color. Scientists, meanwhile, are increasingly studying police violence as a public health problem whose long-term harms radiate far beyond the original victim. “It can have these toxic effects on communities, in terms of both their physical and mental health,” Edwards said. A study published in the Lancet last year found that police killings of unarmed black men were associated with an increase in mental health problems such as depression and emotional issues for black people living in the state where the killing took place. And living in a state of constant fear can lead to chronic stress, Edwards said. He referred to “the talk,” a conversation that many African American parents have with their children — especially boys — about how to interact with police to avoid being harmed. They know that young black men are singled out as being inherently suspect,” he said. Accurately measuring the mortality rate associated with police violence right alongside those of cancer, heart disease and other major causes of death is a crucial step toward mitigating its damage and even “treating” its root causes. But calculating the true rate of police killings is difficult because official data are limited, researchers said. The National Vital Statistics System captures some of these deaths, but it appears to underreport them, researchers said. This might have to do with the information given to coroners and medical examiners, or with the way they code deaths; the researchers can’t say for sure.

To pull those numbers together, Edwards and his colleagues turned to Fatal Encounters, a journalistled system that collects and combines information on police violence that’s available through news coverage, public records and social media. While not an official database, it appears to provide comprehensive information on recent police killings and has been endorsed as a sound source of data by the federal government’s Bureau of Justice Statistics, the researchers said. By combining and then analyzing information from Fatal Encounters and the National Vital Statistics System, the team was able to calculate the prevalence of fatal police violence overall and according to race, age and gender. Cases that police described as suicides were excluded, as were those involving a vehicle collision or accident such as an overdose or a fall. For Latino men and boys, the risk was up to 1.4 times higher than it was for whites. For Native American men, the risk was 1.2 to 1.7 times higher. Overall, women’s risk of being killed by police was roughly 20 times lower than the risk to men. Even so, there were clear differences by ethnicity and race. For instance, black women were about 1.4 times as likely to be killed by police as white women, the researchers found. Native American women were between 1.1 and 2.1 times as likely to be killed as their white peers. Among Asians and Pacific Islanders, both men and women were less than half as likely as their white peers to be killed by police. And Latina women were between 12% and 23% less likely than white women to meet that fate. (Edwards called that finding “interesting,” but he hesitated to speculate about it without studying the issue further.) Across all groups, younger adults were most at risk; the chances of being killed by police peaked between the ages of 20 and 35.

Younger demographics at risk The early 20s are a particularly dangerous time for young men, the researchers found. During the study period, police use of force accounted for 1.6% of all deaths of black men between the ages of 20 and 24. It was also responsible for 1.2% of deaths of Latino and Native American men. However, police violence accounted for just 0.5% of deaths of white and Asian American men in that age range. “We believe these numbers, if anything, are a little bit conservative, maybe a bit too low,” Edwards said. “But we think that these are the best that can be done in terms of just getting a baseline risk estimate out there.” Justin Feldman, a social epidemiologist at the New York University School of Medicine, said the most striking result for him was the mortality risk for black men and boys, which he called “pretty staggering.” “That’s quite meaningful,” said Feldman, who was not involved in the study. “If it’s not you being killed by police, it’s someone you know or someone in your community.” Abigail Sewell, a sociologist at Emory University who did not work on the report, said she wasn’t surprised by most of the study’s results. But that did not change the gravity of the findings. “Honestly, it was a really unsettling paper,” she said. Part of the solution may be to reduce unnecessary police contact in the first place, Sewell said. For example, programs that helped young men of color find jobs might help keep them off the streets and away from cops. Perhaps mental health professionals could be called upon to address psychiatric issues instead of asking police to do so, since they typically do not have training for such tasks.

Shifting focus Retired Police Maj. Neill Franklin also highlighted the need for cultural and logistical shifts in policing. He pointed to the “war on drugs” waged by the federal government as an example. That campaign “is clearly a public health issue when it comes to addiction, but for decades we have been using our police departments as the tip of the spear in dealing with this public health issue,” said Franklin, who now serves as executive director of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, an advocacy group comprising criminal justice professionals. That spear, he said, has often been pointed toward black communities in inner cities. The study authors said other factors may also be at play. It’s possible that the lightness or darkness of a person’s skin tone within his or her racial and ethnic group could affect his or her risk. So could geography, if Latino citizens are treated differently in different states. B ut in order to probe such questions, scientists say they need far more data than is currently available. Information on police stops, whether or not they result in an arrest, would be crucial in determining the extent to which racial bias plays a role in police contact. Franklin, who spent much of his 34-year career in law enforcement in the Baltimore city and Maryland state police departments, agreed.“ We need to do a much better job on monitoring the interactions of our police officers as they’re going about their daily duties,” he said. “I think we would be foolish to believe that we have solved to any great extent the issue of racial profiling in this country regarding police. ”Getting that data will require more cooperation from police departments across the country, the researchers added. “The United States is unique among wealthy democracies in terms of the number of people that are killed by its police forces,” Feldman said. “I think the No. 1 thing it comes down to is a lack of accountability by police departments, both legally and politically"

6. Get Incorporated. If you haven’t already, seriously consider getting incorporated. By adding Inc. or LLC to your business, you’ll be legally separating your business and personal profile. If you choose not to do this, your business and personal credit history (among other things) will be legally attached.

How to Build Business Credit Once you have established business credit, your next step is to build strong business credit. Many of the steps above will help you do just that, but it’s important to focus on two specific steps to help you boost your commercial credit history. The first step is to pay early. In the ad-

Add on your new Inc or LLC, and you’ll be creating plenty of distance. Clearly separating your expenses also makes it a lot easier to manage taxes! 8. Monitor Your Credit. 25% of small business owners have reported significant errors on their credit reports. Diligently monitoring your business credit history can help you spot any issues or blemishes that aren’t accurate. If you do find an error, be sure to file a dispute with the reporting agency. BOY, 11, OPENS VEGAN CARIBBEAN POP-UP AFTER TEACHING HIMSELF TO COOK Faima Bakar

Putting us all to shame is Omari McQueen, 11, who just opened his first pop-up restaurant. The youngster wanted to become a chef after learning to cook while his mom Leah fell ill with ‘paralyzing’ migraines. Despite being brought up on a meatbased diet, Omari decided to become vegan after watching campaigner videos online. His pop-up boasts the finest Caribbean food made from plantbased ingredients. The talented cook learns his recipes by watching YouTube videos and identifies his spices and seasonings by smell as he struggles with dyslexia. Mum Leah says that Omari even teaches her how to make some of his tricks. Omari’s pop-up debuted in Box park, Croydon, after he contacted the park’s CEO and wowed him so much that he offered the space rent-free for a week. YES I WE CAN

want to open a [permanent] restaurant in Boxpark. I think it will be really fun, and so many people will come to my restaurant,’ he added. ‘Loads of people will want to talk to me about my menu. I’m hoping that I bring people together. Food can do that.’ Leah claims their whole family, including cousins and grandmothers, will be coming to help Omari cook during his pop-up – although he will be giving out strict instructions as head chef. She said: ‘Omari is really inspiring and we’re so proud of him. He’s serious about his business but he’s still an 11-year-old boy who likes to play computer games and run around playing football. ‘He’s not thinking about who is coming or how many followers he will get – he’s not thinking about that. He just wants to see people enjoying his food. ‘He is so humble. He is such a humble child. He believes in helping others. He says “I’m going to change the world, just watch me”. Omari has won awards for his vegan dip range – the profits of which are funding his Dipalicious pop-up restaurant. Leah and husband Jermaine McQueen, who works as a bus driver, are also helping Omari to fund his dream. They’ve started a crowdfunding page to get the restaurant up and running. ‘It’s definitely not easy. We’re not a rich family doing this for our son. He’s come from a background of a workingclass family with six children,’ added Leah.

Congratulations!!!!!!!
