The Dance Space is an accessible working studio for everyone to dance in, whether you’re having a go at a class for the first time or you’re a professional artist rehearsing a new work. We support dance artists with funding, tailored advice and networking opportunities throughout their careers. And as passionate believers in the health and wellbeing benefits of dance, we work hard to bring movement to as many people as possible. In 2022, we celebrate our 25th birthday, and the public opening of our new building and your new sustainable and accessible home for dance – The Dance Space. The Welcome Project:

Creating dance with local people

Image: DFphotography

We want The Dance Space to belong to the local community. Since 2017, we’ve been working on The Welcome Project, our way of getting to know and creating dance with the people and community organisations that live and work on the doorstep of The Dance Space. With the help of a brilliant Steering Group made up of people connected to the local area, we’ve been creating dance for and with Brooke Mead Extra Care Facility, Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project, Tarner Children’s Project, Puffin Community Nursery and Brighton Youth Centre. Now The Dance Space is opening, we’re looking forward to playing host to the friends we’ve made through The Welcome Project. Residents of Brooke Mead will join other older people from around the city in free monthly 15

movement classes led by Dr Rosaria Gracia, a Dance for Health specialist. Under fives at Puffin Community Nursery will be making the short journey down the hill to take part in free weekly creative play sessions in our beautiful new Aldridge Community Space. This summer we will also be launching The Welcome Card for all residents of the Tarner ward. Welcome Card holders will be entitled to concession price tickets, where applicable, as well as other invites and special offers including complimentary tickets – for all classes and events programmed directly by South East Dance. To find out more about The Welcome Project, The Welcome Card and all of our classes at The Dance Space visit southeastdance.org.uk. The Welcome Project is supported by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, D'Oyly Carte, Sussex Community Foundation, Postcode Community Trust, Brandwatch, St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation and Brighton & Hove City Council.
