Uusikaupunki While Uusikaupunki means New Town, the city is in fact quite old, having been founded in 1617. Uusikaupunki is known for its historical wooden house quarters as well as its car factory, which is not only the largest factory in all of Finland but also the country’s only car factory. The idyllic and laid-back Uusikaupunki way of life ensures that you will have time for what matters most – living. The active city offers a variety of recreational activities for everyone, regardless of age, sex or nationality.

Apartments The city has 815 rental apartments in blocks of flats and terraced houses. There are small studio apartments and two-room apartments as well as larger family apartments. City-owned rental apartments are available in Hakametsä, Sorvakko, Pietola, Kalanti and Lokalahti, for example. There are also private operators providing rental apartments. You can find vacant city-owned rental apartments and fill in apartment applications on our website!

Early childhood education and care In Uusikaupunki, your children have access to safe, diverse and high-quality early childhood education and care. We have eight municipal and four private day care centres as well as group family day care homes and family day care providers. Nonstandard-hour child care is available at Myllymäki day care centre. Starting day care is always a big step in a child’s life. In Uusikaupunki, every child starting day care can ease into the everyday life together with their guardian. This makes for a smooth transition into the world of early childhood education and care, both for the child and the parents.

A new multi-purpose space called Monitoimijatalo Wintteri is being built in Uusikaupunki.

Schools There are six primary schools in Uusikaupunki: Classes 1–6 are taught in the schools in Hakametsä, Saarnisto, Lokalahti and Pyhämaa. Uusikaupunki comprehensive school and Kalanti school provide teaching for classes 1–9. For upper secondary education, Uusikaupunki has an upper secondary school as well as the vocational school Novida. The university of applied sciences distance learning point Pointti located in Novida’s premises offers excellent facilities for online and blended learning in higher education.

Health services In urgent cases, emergency services in Vakka-Suomi serve you every day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Terveystie 2. After 8 p.m., night-time service is available at Tyks’ T-hospital. Before seeking out night-time service, always call tel. 02 313 8800. Through the electronic appointment booking service of the health services, you can schedule certain types of appointments online, such as appointments with a nurse or physical therapist or medical procedures by a nurse.
