WELCOME TO

SONDOR Sondor Travel has been offering walking tours to Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro since 1991. Our wide range of trips includes products such as: “Peaks of the Balkans” which is a cross regional walking route to Albania – Kosovo – Montenegro. The trails we use in areas such as: Valbona Valley, Theth Valley, Gashi River are tested and tried for years by our local guides. What it does differentiate us from the others is the fact that we are born and raised in the Albanian Alps. This has helped us create a network of guides, assistant guides and walking routes who are the best you can find in the region. Our assistant guides are locals and previously shepherds who know their mountains by heart, competent to make your walking a unique and authentic experience. This is done to ensure a higher level of security, keeping things under control and handling any unexpected challenges. In most our walking tours in Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro we use local accommodation, alpine pasture huts, and family running guesthouses. We have seen in time that our clients have appreciated very much this as a great way of introduction into the local life. For us it is very important to give you a unique walking experience done in an authentic way. Sometimes it can be a great insight into the local nature, mountain geology, bird life; sometimes it can be an activity such as collecting blueberries, mountain tea, sheep herding and sometimes just being a guest into the local families, knowing their living, beliefs, stories, enjoying the traditional food prepared for us.

Accommodation

They have a great knowledge and insight about the region, so they show you how to get the most of your trip. They are very friendly and know how to relate to the group. Our guides always bring their own stories and perspective when sharing their information about the region so you will not feel like you are skimming through the cultural surface of the country. They are able to understand the needs of the group and respond accordingly.

Our hotels offer the best balance between price, quality and service. Many of them are managed by families where the atmosphere is really intimate and full of character. For our Walking Trips in Albania we stay in shepherd huts situated in the alpine pastures. It is really an amazing experience. The location and freedom to move around is as well important for us, so we carefully have selected hotels from where you can easily access the main points of interest on foot.

Northern Albania

What’s so great about this area?

e-mail: info@sondortravel.com

Peaks of Balkans

The region between Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro has everything to boast itself of. Rugged mountains, high peaks above 2000 m, green valleys, a rich wild life and above all the hospitality of people and delicious food. Accursed Mountains

Thethi

Accursed Mountains are part of Dinaric Alps in North of Albania, West of Kosovo and South-East of Montenegro. They are high peaks above 2000m and covered in deep snow on winter till late summer. Their name is related to many legends and folkloric parts that the locals proudly like to share and sing about. Best for walking, trekking and snowshoeing, they give the feeling of a triumphant, once you’re on the top of them.

Thethi, offers everything a village can have. Rough mountains, natural water springs, waterfalls and rocky canyons. Some of the cultural attractions include an old church (1813) which served as a school as well and the tower of salvation. Because Northern Albania suffered from blood feud, this tower was built to take in protection the one who committed murder and prevent another crime.

Valbona Valley

Komani Lake

Valbona Valley, a gorgeous setting, composed of surrounding mountains, river, waterfalls, pine trees and rocks. Home of 350 sort of mountain flowers, many wild birds and butterflies. The trout of Valbona River is now a specie under protection. Best for walking and cycling.

Komani Lake, The lake was formed during the late ’70’s from the waters of Drini’s river. It has a great importance on the Albanian economy because in the lake are build 3 hydropower plants which produce 70% of the electrical power needs. Compared to Scandinavian Fjords it is considered to be one of the most fascinating boat trips.

Meet our LOCAL GUIDE Halil Halil has been working with us for many years. Born and raised in the Albanian Alps, he always finds a genuine way to share his passion and knowledge for mountains with each different groups of tourists. Halil is an energetic mountain hiker, always in search for new off-beaten paths, a horse-raiser and a rider. When he is not leading a group, you can find him exploring the surrounding mountains and marking new off-beaten paths that he passionately shares with us. He knows every stone and tree of the peaks we are walking into; therefore, when taking a new unknown path, we feel like exploring and not lost. He has a deep insight of the zone, knows a lot about the forests and wild plants as well as the living of wild animals and birds in their habitat. Being also a local in this area, he has lots of good stories to share and make a hiking unforgettable. Together we give our best to deliver a unique walking experience and make sure that every guest leaves with a better understanding and an exciting feeling of making a new discovery. e-mail: info@sondortravel.com

I joined a walking tour in Albania and our guide Dori was brilliant; he has a wealth of knowledge and passion for Albania and he was able to show us a side of Albania that I don’t think any of us on the tour could ever have imagined. He led us confidently on all of the hikes using his local knowledge and contacts to ensure we got an authentic taste of Albania. On the more cultural side of the tour he was able to give us so much information on the history of the country and could easily augment the information that was being given by the local guides. I would have no issue recommending Sondor Travel if you are planning a trip to Albania. LondonTravelLady, Visited July 2016

I went as an individual joining a group of other adventurers from UK and USA on a 9 day tour.... Most of us had no idea what to expect of Albania but we had a wonderful time led by the amazing Dori. We saw and trekked in, beautiful countryside; met generous, welcoming people; stuffed ourselves on fabulous food and stayed in great hotels/ guesthouses in superb locations. The ethos of the company seems to be to spread the word about what a wonderful country Albania is - and I can only agree wholeheartedly. Huencry, Visited July 2016
