WELCOME TO SOFA CHICAGO 2012 We are delighted to welcome you to SOFA CHICAGO 2012, celebrating our 19th year. This year’s fair features 64 dynamic US and international galleries bringing over 800 artists to SOFA CHICAGO, which has established itself as an important and vibrant meeting place for all who are passionate about contemporary and modern art and design. SOFA is not only an annual event to acquire exciting new work, but it is also a gathering point to exchange ideas, engage in dialogue and awaken our senses to what new techniques and achievements have occurred in the international world of art and design. Among the many exciting elements of this year’s fair is the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement. In 1962 in Toledo, Ohio, Harvey Littleton and Dominick Labino built a kiln and conducted a workshop on the grounds of the Toledo Museum of Art. The collaboration between these two artists and mavericks sparked a marvelous exploration of glass that has evolved from those early beginnings in Toledo and has spread around the world and to multiple generations of artists working in glass. As you explore SOFA CHICAGO this year, you will find numerous lectures, booth discussions and exhibits about glass – its past, its present and its future. As you take in

these experiences, stop and consider the monumental achievement that Littleton and Labino accomplished with their ingenuity and perseverance!
