The only coach in Saint Joseph’s program history to lead the Hawks to the Atlantic 10 Tournament, Jess Reynolds returns for her 11th season at the helm of the women’s soccer squad. In 10 seasons, Reynolds has turned around a team that posted a single A-10 win in the year before she arrived to a highly-competitive club that has since made three postseason appearances and had 13 student-athletes garner Atlantic 10 All-Conference accolades. Bringing in several highly-touted recruits and transfers in 2003, Reynolds led the Hawks to their first winning season in four years. Saint Joseph’s went 9-81 overall and set a program record for Atlantic 10 wins with a 7-4-0 record and qualified for its first A-10 Tournament. The seven-game improvement from 2002 to 2003 ranked among the best in the nation as Reynolds guided three players to All-Conference or All-Rookie recognition, including 2003 A-10 Rookie of the Year Megan Schutt. In 2004, Reynolds guided the Hawks to new heights as Saint Joseph’s earned the team’s first postseason victory. Highlighted by a 1-0 win over La Salle in the A-10 Championship Opening Round, the Hawks posted a 9-11-1 overall record and finished 6-4-1 in conference play. Having graduated the Hawks’ top scorer and goalkeeper, Reynolds’ coaching ability shined in 2006 as Saint Joseph’s fought into the final weekend for a playoff spot. Despite falling shy of the program’s fourth-straight postseason appearance, Reynolds coached the Hawks to a single-season best 33 goals, while helping senior Ali Wean become the squad’s first ever A-10 Offensive Player of the Year. Wean also became the second Hawk under Reynolds to earn A-10 First Team All-Conference honors, and the first SJU player to be named to SoccerBuzz.com’s Mid-Atlantic Third Team after scoring a single-season record 14 goals. Compiling one of the toughest schedules in the region in 2007, Reynolds’ young club responded, going 3-4-1 at home and had a pair of freshmen leading the way on offense. Boosted by the 17th-best ranked recruiting class by SoccerBuzz.com in 2008, Reynolds guided the Hawks to the fifth most-improved record in the nation at 8-7-4. Additionally, Saint Joseph’s surpassed the previous record for consecutive victories, stringing together five straight in 2008. Individually, several Hawks posted career years, while freshman Jen Pfeiffer excelled under Reynolds’ guidance. Pfeiffer became just the second SJU player - and second under Reynolds - to earn Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and All-Freshman Mid-Atlantic Team honors. In 2009, Reynolds pushed her team to the brink of a postseason berth as the Hawks remained in contention for the postseason heading into the regular season finale. While SJU finished two points shy of its goal, the Hawks finished with a program-best 1.07 goals-against-average, with junior Lauren Sawyer earning All-Conference honors and Christine Neal garnering All-Rookie accolades. Last season, several Hawks had career years, while the team fought hard despite several key injuries. Freshman Mo Hawkins became the third player under Reynolds’ gudiance to earn both A-10 All-Rookie Team and All-Conference honors in the same season, while junior Maggie Lupinski was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention. Additionally, junior Jen Pfeiffer 2011 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S SOCCER MEDIA GUIDE 2

HEAD COACH helped lead a SJU offense that increased its production in goals-per-game, assists and points from the previous year. Hawkins and Pfeiffer also became the first pair of SJU teammates to finish amongst the conference’s top 10 in scoring. Away from the sidelines, Reynolds has also been instrumental in guiding the team’s previous trips to Brazil, Norway, California and Colorado. She has directed off-season camps to help raise money for the team, as well as local charities and been instrumental in establishing volunteer and community service projects for the team. Prior to coming to Saint Joseph’s in August of 2001, she spent one year as head coach at West Chester University, where the Golden Rams compiled a record of 10-9-1. In addition to her responsibilities of handling the soccer team, Reynolds also coordinated all aspects of West Chester’s extensive summer camp. A four-year starter at Delaware, Reynolds earned her undergraduate degree in education in 1997. One of the top playmakers in Blue Hens history, she currently ranks 10th all-time in program history in assists (13) and helped her team to a 48-25-3 record from 1993-96. She returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach in April of 1999 and also served as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Temple for one season. A native of Swarthmore, Pa., Reynolds presently serves as head coach of FC Delco Storm U-17 and assists with the FC Delco U-12 squad. She is also currently working towards a master’s degree in educational leadership at Saint Joseph’s. A former standout at Strath Haven High School, Reynolds currently resides in Philadelphia.

ASSISTANT COACHES Drew Kopp

Assistant Coach Pittsburgh ‘99 - Fourth Year

A standout at both the collegiate and professional levels, Drew Kopp returns for his fourth year as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph’s. In his first season with the Hawks, Kopp helped the defense lower its goals against average from 2.86 to 1.89, and helped SJU to a program-best six-straight wins. Saint Joseph’s again showed major improvements in the defensive backfield in 2009, as the Hawks posted six shutouts. Under Kopp’s guidance, SJU recorded its best goals against average (1.07) in team history. An eight-year member of the Philadelphia KiXX, Kopp came to Saint Joseph’s after spending the previous two years at crosstown rival La Salle. During his two years with the Explorers, La Salle posted an overall record of 20-19-1 and went 11-8-1 in Atlantic 10 play, including a bid to the 2006 A-10 Tournament. A standout collegiate player in his own right, Kopp was a fouryear letterwinner at the University of Pittsburgh. Playing both at forward and in the midfield for the Panthers, he graduated in 1999 tied for fifth all-time in points. After graduation, Kopp continued his playing career with the Philadelphia KiXX of the Major Indoor Soccer League, debuting in the fall of 2000. Over the next eight seasons, he played in over 200 games, earned MISL Player of the Month accolades and helped the KiXX to a pair of MISL titles (2001-02 and 2006-07). Kopp also played six seasons for the Hershey Wildcats (three years), Montreal Impact (two years) and Charleston Battery (one year) in the United Soccer League’s First Division. Currently, Kopp is head coach of the U-18 FC Delco Fire and an assistant coach for the U-15 FC Delco Burnley. He has helped the U17 Delco Storm to two state championships and an appearance in the 2005 Region 1 Championship. Kopp also holds his USSF B License. A four-year standout at Cedar Crest High School, Kopp earned Regional All-American and Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State honors as a senior. Kopp, his wife, Kristin, and children Keanan and Darah reside in Philadelphia.

FINNESEY FIELD Finnesey Field has been home to 10 different varsity squads at Saint Joseph’s University as it enters its 80th year. Opened in 1929 as home to the SJU football squad, the field has undergone numerous changes over the years and has been home to over a thousand SJU varsity games, matches and track meets. The most recent upgrade happened in the summer of 2008 as the AstroTurf, laid down in 2001, was replaced with new, state-of-the-art TigerTurf. Additionally, the track received a new coat of rubber material in 2009 to better suit the athletes who use it for all seasons. Home to the women’s and men’s soccer teams as well as the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, the field has seen other modifications since its inception in 1929. The prospect of a 70,000seat bowled stadium for football was dashed when the sport was discontinued following the 1939 season. Baseball re-occupied the space in 1947, calling Finnesey home until 1959. In 1960, the original grandstand as well as the hillside seating near Overbrook Avenue were eliminated as Villiger (now Post) Hall and the Bluett Theatre were built. In the process of the 1960 construction, the field’s elevation was raised five feet to its current location. In 1990, artificial turf replaced the grass, making Finnesey a true multi-purpose facility. In 1994 the installation of lights furthered the use of the grounds, while new bleachers in 2003 on the hill next to Mandeville Hall were another touch of renovation to a historic stadium.

Saint Joseph’s women’s soccer was started in 1996 and played every season at Finnesey. The squad has compiled an overall 49-518 mark in 14 seasons at Hawk Hill. The location has also been home to men’s soccer since 1958 as the Saint Joseph’s men opened its playing grounds with a 6-0 victory over Rutgers-South Jersey in October 24, 1958. Hawks’ field hockey team wrapped up its last season on Finnesey in 2007. Overall, the site has seen 1,137 games entering the 2011-12 academic year, and SJU teams put together a total record of 520-569-48 in 81 years.

2011 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S SOCCER MEDIA GUIDE 5

SEASON PREVIEW The 2011 season brings high expectations for the Saint Joseph’s women’s soccer team. Returning seven starters, including three of their top four scorers from last year, the Hawks are focused on returning to the Atlantic 10 Championship for the fourth time under head coach Jess Reynolds. Buoyed by arguably its best scoring tandem in team history, Saint Joseph’s will look to senior Jen Pfeiffer and sophomore Mo Hawkins to set the tone in the offensive zone. A three-year starter, Pfeiffer is coming off her most productive year, scoring 10 goals and tallying 23 points as a junior. Possessing a knack for the back of the net, she enters the year nine goals shy of breaking the career record for goals (32). Making an immediate impact, Hawkins proved to be one of the best freshmen in the conference in 2010. An A-10 All-Conference Second Team and AllRookie Team honoree, she led the Hawks with a team-high five assists and ranked second on the team in points (21) and goals (eight). Competing for a starting spot at forward will be junior Ali Yozwiak, sophomore Emily Irons and freshmen Cailyn Alfieri, Kersten Formento and Alicia de la Rosa. A two-year letterwinner, Yozwiak has had a productive preseason according to Reynolds, while Irons earned extensive playing time as a rookie and will build off of her experience. The trio of rookies all bring acclaimed resumes from their club and high school programs and will push their teammates for playing time. “Jen, Mo, Ali and Emily know what it takes to be successful in our conference and they have worked hard to continue to improve during the offseason,” Reynolds said. “We’ve added a lot of talent in our freshman class, and they are going to be asked to contribute right away.” An A-10 All-Conference Honorable Mention a season ago, senior Maggie Lupinski will anchor the Hawks’ midfield. Serving as co-captain in 2011, Lupinski enters her final season on Hawk Hill having tallied nine goals and five assists, while making 47 starts. Bringing three years of experience, seniors Kelliann Rooney and Sandra Mackey have helped solidify the midfield in past years and will push for the starting nods this season, with sophomores Morgan Duffy, Shannon Farrell, Devin Griffin and Courtney Paxson and rookies Franki Smurro, and Daniella Morgante adding talent and depth to the roster. “Maggie has a great feel for the midfield and has proven to be one of the top players in the conference and we expect her to have a successful senior year,” said Reynolds. “The midfielders are very competitive this season and we expect everyone to have a major role.”

Serving as a co-captain this year, senior Maggie Lupinski is coming off Atlantic 10 All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2010.

Sophomore Mo Hawkins led the Hawks in assists and finished second in goals and points as a rookie.

Coming off an injury that sidelined her for most of 2010, senior Kayleigh Summers is healthy and ready to resume her spot as leader of the SJU defense. Serving as co-captain this year, she started the first 41 games of her career prior to her injury. A vocal and physical presence, the Hawks will look to her to guide the youthful defenders. A walk-on as a rookie, junior Taylor Mallory stepped into a starting spot last year. Proving the ability to add an offensive side, she has collected an assist in each season as well. Senior Steph Maurer is coming off a career-best five starts and had two assists as a junior as she saw more extensive time with the injury to Summers. Stepping into starting roles as rookies, sophomores Morgan Circe and Nicole King will look to retain their starting jobs, while classmates Brianna Walsh and Lindsey King and freshmen Carly D’Esposito, Katie Beattie, McHale Perkins and Kelsey Marchesano will challenge for playing time. “Kayleigh is one of the best leaders I have coached and she has one of the best mental approaches to the game,” Reynolds said. “Alongside her, we have a lot of depth with our returning upperclassmen and our newcomers pushing them and in turn making us better.” In goal, junior Christine Neal is coming off a career-high 85 saves to go with a pair of shutouts. An A-10 All-Rookie selection as a freshman, she enters her third year as SJU’s top keeper tied for fourth all-time in team history with six career shutouts. Seeing limited action, sophomore Lauren Jancuska made the most of her playing time, going 1-1-0 with one shutout. With a year of experience to her credit, she will push for more time and give the Hawks their best keeper duo in several years. The Hawks will also sport a different look on the sideline with the additions of assistant coaches Kimmy Pawlowski and Timmy Lucas. A former SJU standout in the midfield, Pawlowski (nee Leigh) was a two-time A-10 All-Conference honoree and helped the Hawks to a trio of A-10 Championship appearances. Bringing nearly 15 years of experience to the staff, most recently with Northern District ODP squad, Lucas will work primarily with the goalkeepers. “The additions of Kimmy and Timmy will help us greatly this year,” Reynolds said. “They bring both experience and a winning mentality to the team.” Picked to place 12th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, the Hawks aren’t focused on where coaches predicted them to finish, but rather want to focus on their goals of being competitive in every game of their non-conference slate and earning one of six conference postseason bids. “We hope that every game we play will get us a step closer to making the A10 Championship,” said Reynolds. “We have several tough non-conference games that will get us ready for our A-10 games, and this year we face the top teams in the conference and are looking forward to the challenge. We are going to fight our way into the postseason and are ready to get on the field and do that.” With a focused team of talented veterans and an infusion of youthful newcomers, Saint Joseph's is poised to return to the conference postseason in 2011.

2011 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S SOCCER MEDIA GUIDE 13

2010 YEAR IN REVIEW Playing with a youthful lineup, the 2010 Saint Joseph’s women’s soccer team had several outstanding individual performances during the year, but with a rash of injuries to key members, the Hawks were unable to reach their goal of making the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Opening the season in California, Saint Joseph’s faced a pair of challenging squads in UC-Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge. Freshman Mo Hawkins and junior Maggie Lupinski flashed signs of things to come in the opener at UCSB, but the Hawks ultimately fell 51. Wrapping up the trip against the Matadors, SJU got a game-high seven saves from sophomore Christine Neal, but fell to host Cal State Northridge. Returning to Philadelphia to open the home portion of their schedule, the Hawks got a stellar outing from Hawkins and junior Jen Pfeiffer in a 4-1 win over Drexel. Pfeiffer tallied a hat trick, while Hawkins recorded a pair of assists and a goal for SJU’s first win of the year. Saint Joseph’s got back to .500 with a 3-0 win over NJIT as freshman Lauren Jancuska posted her first collegiate shutout and win, while Pfieffer collected a pair of goals. Despite the momentum, the Hawks would end the non-conference portion of their slate losing four of five, with a game at Princeton being cancelled due to lightning mid-game. An overtime tally by Pfeiffer and shutout from Neal helped SJU to a win at Fairleigh Dickinson during the stretch, while Pfeiffer and Hawkins combined for the other three SJU goals during that stretch. Opening the Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule on the road, the Hawks went to extra time thanks to a goal by senior Lauren Sawyer, but eventually fell to Richmond, 2-1. Another 2-1 loss, this time at George Washington, was followed by a pair of wins over Temple and Xavier to even SJU’s conference record. Hawkins and Lupinski carried the offense in a 2-1 win over the Owls, while Sawyer tallied the gamewinner and Neal pitched a perfect game in net in a 1-0 victory over the Musketeers.

Personifying the Jesuit values of "being a person for others," Kelliann Rooney was awarded the team’s Raymond Vasquez Award last season.

Despite a loss to Dayton, Saint Joseph’s was in the thick of it for a postseason berth heading into the final two weekends. Unfortunately for SJU, a pair of double-overtime draws and a pair of losses ended the hopes of postseason play as the Hawks ended the year with a 2-2 draw against Saint Louis. While Saint Joseph’s fell short of the conference tournament, several Hawks had standout campaigns as Hawkins earned A-10 AllConference Second Team and All-Rookie Team accolades, while Lupinski was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection.

SAINT JOSEPH’S UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the Athletics Department at Saint Joseph’s University reflects the Mission of the University by using the programs within Athletics as a way to develop the whole person and preparing men and women for others.

• To educate the whole person by complementing the academic experience with athletic and recreational programs and activities outside the classroom.

• To create an environment for personal growth through openness, respect, and a concern for others.

• To communicate the value of community and family through team work and sportsmanship. • To provide opportunities for students to learn self-discipline, responsibility, decision-making, and attainment of goals.

• To provide opportunities for students to participate and compete in a first-class manner.

• To provide equitable opportunities for all students and staff, including women and minorities. • To advance the University regionally and nationally through intercollegiate athletics.

The Saint Joseph’s Hawk mascot has been flapping its wings for more than a half a century. One of the most famous mascots in college sports, the Hawk is best known for staying in constant motion by flapping its wings throughout every basketball game and representing the Saint Joseph’s motto, “The Hawk Will Never Die”. Saint Joseph’s athletic teams have been recognized with the nickname “Hawks” since 1929. At that time, the school’s yearbook editor initiated a contest among the student body for a symbol. More than 100 submissions were narrowed, with “Hawks” winning out over “Grenadiers” by a slim margin. The name was appropriate because it typified “the fighting spirit of our crimson and gray athletes and it is suggestive of the aerial attack which has made our football team famous.” Football, ironically, was discontinued at SJU following the 1939 season. The Hawk mascot has garnered numerous accolades in its 55-year history. It has been selected as the nation’s top mascot by The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Street & Smith’s Basketball Yearbook and ESPN College Basketball magazine and was a nominee for the 2008 Mascot Hall of Fame. 2011 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S SOCCER MEDIA GUIDE 25

THE UNIVERSITY Founded in 1851, Saint Joseph’s is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit university teaching disciplined reasoning, effective communication and a love of learning. From Willings Alley in Old City Philadelphia to Stiles Street in North Philadelphia to its current location on City Avenue, Saint Joseph’s has continued to grow and change with the times. The University combines the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, a history of service and an ideal campus location to produce successful students who strive to make a good world even better. Full-time, undergraduate day enrollment comprises approximately 4,600 students. Graduate, evening and executive programs push total enrollment to more than 8,000 students.

THE JESUIT TRADITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Saint Joseph’s nationally-recognized academic reputation is confirmed by ongoing acknowledgment in Barron’s, U.S. News & World Report and Peterson’s. The Jesuit tradition of intellectual inquiry and personal concern manifests itself in small, challenging classes taught by a caring faculty. Graduate assistants do not teach, so undergraduates can be sure they are receiving the very best educational experience from trained experts. One-on-one interaction between students and faculty is a reality at Saint Joseph’s. A solid liberal arts curriculum provides across-the-board learning for every student. Supporting that curriculum are comprehensive academic majors and learning facilities. The result is a broad education that prepares students not only for employment and graduate school, but for life itself. In the fall of 1998, SJU opened the $25 million Owen A. Mandeville Hall, which houses the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the Center for Food Marketing and the region's first "Teletorium" and "Moot Boardrooms." An 87,000-square-foot international academic center featuring state-of-the-art distance learning technology, it is located near the corner of 54th Street and City Avenue.

A HISTORY OF SERVICE The students of Saint Joseph’s University are dedicated to making today’s world even better. A natural spirit of volunteerism has enabled the University’s community service programs to become the most popular extracurricular activities on campus. In addi-

tion, a Service Learning program allows students to receive academic credit for their work outside the classroom. SJU offers local, national and international opportunities for student service. From North Philadelphia to Camden, N.J.; from New Orleans to the Appalachian Mountains, Saint Joseph’s students embrace the Jesuit mission of serving those in need. SJU students take frequent advantage of the artistic and cultural resources Philadelphia offers, as well. They visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Franklin Institute Science Museum; the Academy of Music, which houses ballet and opera; and the new Kimmel Center, home to the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition, SJU students enjoy rooting for Philadelphia’s teams in the four major professional sports leagues.
