BILLY LANGE Head Coach Second Season
The 15th head coach in the storied history of Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program, Billy Lange returns for his second season at Hawk Hill in 2020-21. Named Saint Joseph’s head coach on March 28, 2019, Lange brought more than 23 years of sideline experience to the Hawks, most recently as assistant coach of the Philadelphia 76ers. Since he joined the Sixers in 2013, the team has rebuilt its culture, emphasized player development and implemented a process that has led to their current success. Lange’s college head coaching experience spans nine years with stints at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy. As Navy’s head coach from 2004 to 2011, the Midshipmen showed a marked improvement under Lange, as he led the squad to its first winning season in seven years during the 2007-08 campaign with a 16-14 record. Helped by a six-game winning streak, that squad went 9-5 in league play and finished second in the regular season. Lange was named the 2008 Patriot League Coach of the Year for his efforts, which also saw Greg Sprink earn Player of the Year honors, marking the only time a Midshipman has received that league’s award. He served as head coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy from 2000 through 2001, where he compiled a 39-19 record and led the Mariners to the Skyline Conference regular-season title in each of his two seasons. In 2001, the USMMA also won the conference tournament title to secure a bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament and reach the Sweet 16, becoming the first team in program history to advance past the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Lange was named the New York Metropolitan Basketball Writers Division III Coach of the Year following that season. A native of Haddon Heights, N.J., Lange began his coaching career with one season at his alma mater, Bishop Eustace Prep, succeeding his father, Bill Lange, Sr., in the role. He then moved on to the collegiate level as an assistant coach under Naismith Hall of Fame coach Herb Magee at Philadelphia (now Jefferson) University. After two seasons with the Rams, he served as an assistant coach at La Salle University under Speedy Morris for one season before taking over at the USMMA. Lange joined Jay Wright’s staff at Villanova as an assistant coach and coordinator of basketball operations for three seasons before taking the head job in Annapolis. He returned to Villanova as the Wildcats’ associate head coach in 2011 before joining the 76ers in 2013. Lange’s connection to Saint Joseph’s runs deep as his parents, Bill and Kathy, are both alumni, as is his brother, Mark. Lange’s wife, Alicia, served as the Hawks’ coordinator of academic services for student-athletes for five years in the early 2000’s. A 1994 graduate of Rowan, he and Alicia are the parents of four sons – Will, Matt, Jake and Marc.
JOHN GRIFFIN III Associate Head Coach Second Season
John Griffin III returns for his second season with the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program, and first as associate head coach. Griffin is responsible for coordinating the on court player development program and overseeing the team’s defense which includes drill implementation, teaching strategies, opponent scouting, game plan, and research projects. Griffin is also tasked with recruiting, game scheduling, and serves as a liaison with the department’s compliance, academics and sports performance staffs. Griffin came to SJU after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bucknell. During his time on the bench, the Bison made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2017, 2018), captured the 2017 Patriot League title and compiled a 58-14 record in conference play. He started his collegiate coaching career on the staff at Rider, working as the director of operations until he was promoted to assistant coach, serving for two seasons from 2013 to 2015. Griffin was the Indiana Pacers’ video coordinator during the 2010-11 season, in between a three-year professional playing career in Europe. His ties to Saint Joseph’s are lengthy as his father, John, was Saint Joseph’s head basketball coach from 1990 to 1995. Griffin had an outstanding playing career at Bucknell being part of two NCAA Tournament teams, including the Bison squad which upset Kansas in the 2005 First Round. He averaged 13.1 points and earned All-Patriot League First Team honors as a senior. A 2008 graduate, he scored 1,084 career points and still ranks third on Bucknell’s list for career three-point field goals made (220). “John provided great leadership in our first year. He cares deeply about people and operated as a chief of staff in connecting an entirely new group of people. People trust him and value his experience and solution-oriented approach. JUSTIN SCOTT Assistant Coach Second Season
Justin Scott enters his second season as assistant coach for the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program in 2020-21. Scott serves in a multitude of roles for the program. He coordinates the team’s “SITUATIONAL EXCELLENCE” which is a specific focus on game and clock management, rule education, and teaching situations relating to dead ball offense and defense. Additionally, Scott provides efforts in on court player development, recruiting, opponent scouting and works with staff members Amanda Casale and Michelle Thomas on The Leadership Initiative and Hawk Hill Hoops Academy which align with the program’s focus on holistic development and serving the community. Joining Arcadia as an assistant coach in 2010, Scott was promoted to head coach in 2012 and went on to post a 104-87 overall record with 1 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year,14 student-athletes earning All-MAC Commonwealth honors and had three selected as MAC Commonwealth Rookies of the Year. Following the 2018-19 season, Scott was honored with his second MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year honor and recognized as the Sam Cozen Small College Basketball Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a 23-6 record, setting a new single-season mark for wins and capturing the program’s first ever. NCAA Tournament win. Scott also has FIBA head coaching experience, taking the reigns as head coach for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ senior men’s team in 2014. Under his guidance the team posted a 6-6 record in international play as St. Vincent and the Grenadines placed sixth at the 2015 FIBA Caribbean Basketball Championship and fifth in 2018 to mark its highest finish at the tournament. Scott served as both assistant coach and Coordinator for Special Projects, Diversity and Social Justice Education in the Athletic Department for three seasons from 2007-10 at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg University. Scott was a two-year letter winner with the Warriors and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2007 and a master’s degree in Management and Leadership with a concentration in Sport Management in 2008. A native of Philadelphia, Scott captured All-Public League accolades during a standout career at George Washington Carver Engineering and Science High School. Scott is an active board member of the Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation that helps raises awareness concerning sudden cardiac arrest, provides free screenings for hypertrophy cardiomyopathy, and provides automated external defibrillators and CPR training to tri-state area recreation centers. “Justin is an incredible spirit. He has the trust of our players, staff, and administration as he constantly displays his genuine and authentic care for all people. Personally, I rely heavily on Justin’s head coaching experience and our staff benefits greatly from his poise, perspective and teaching abilities. He is an outstanding connector and evaluator, earning the confidence and praise of many constituents in the recruiting landscape.” - Billy Lange
BRENDEN STRAUGHN Assistant Coach Second Season
Brenden Straughn begins his second season as an assistant coach for Saint Joseph’s on head coach Billy Lange’s staff in 2020-21. Straughn manages the team’s offensive attack, implementing drills and teaching the philosophy, profile and concepts by which the offense operates. He is also the program’s Recruiting Coordinator, responsible for many roles related to roster structuring and recruiting oversight., Straughn also provides on court player development, opponent scouting and partners with men’s basketball athletic trainer Neil Hoffman on creating resources to elevate the program’s education on mental health and wellness, consistent with the holistic development focus of head coach Billy Lange. Straughn spent 2018-19 as an assistant coach at Loyola Maryland and brings a wealth of experience coaching at the high school and AAU levels in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland. The native of New Carrollton, Maryland, was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, during a successful run in which the team went 123-25 and won two Maryland 4A State Championships and three Prince George county titles from 2013 to 2016. Straughn has also served as an assistant coach for one of the D.C. area’s premier AAU programs, Team Takeover, since 2013 and was the associate head coach from 2016 to 2018. In 2017, he guided Team Takeover to the Jordan Brand 8 Invitational title and the Peach Jam title in 2018. He has coached over 70 Division I players for Team Takeover, including three McDonald’s All-Americans. Straughn led the on-court coaching and player development efforts for the program while also assisting with recruiting and player evaluation. Straughn was instrumental in the planning of some of the nation’s premier youth basketball events, such as the National High School Hoops Festival, the Victor Oladipo Skills Academy and the D.C. Metro Challenge. Straughn, a 2012 graduate of Hood College in Maryland, was a four-year starter and three-year team captain there. At the time of his graduation, he ranked among the school’s top 10 in scoring and was second in assists and steals. “Brenden is a gifted thinker that provides great energy to our program. He has a comforting and compassionate personality along with a direct approach to teaching – that combination has earned him the trust and respect of our staff and student-athletes. His connections, reputation, and evaluation skills fortify our recruiting effort; he provides leadership and strategy to our staff in his role as recruiting coordinator.” - Billy Lange
THOMAS BOYLE
Dir. of Scouting & Analytics Second Season
Thomas Boyle begins his second season as director of scouting and analytics for Saint Joseph’s in 2020-2021. Boyle’s responsibilities focus on using video and data for game preparation, statistical analysis, and research projects. He also coordinates the Graduate Manager Program, crafts the agendas for coaches meetings and communicates with the team on the daily schedule. His in game duties center on substitution patterns, fouls, and timeouts. Boyle has a storied journey with the Hawks. He is the grandson of former SJU coaches Jim Lynam and the late Jim Boyle. He was a student manager under Coach Phil Martelli along with serving the program as a graduate assistant and video coordinator. He was the program’s Director of Basketball Operations before his promotion in March of 2019 to his current role. In addition to his bachelor’s degree in 2015, Boyle also completed his MBA on Hawk Hill in 2018. He has internship experience with the Atlantic 10 Conference and iPlaybook Apps.

ERIC LANG
Assistant Coach Second Season
Eric Lang enters his second season as head strength and conditioning coach for the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program in 2020-21. Lang came to Hawk Hill in June of 2019 after spending the previous three years working with the Houston Rockets. Joining the organization in June of 2016, Lang served as the Rockets’ assistant strength and conditioning coach. He was also the head strength and conditioning coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, who won the G-League Championship in 2019. He has additional NBA experience having spent the 2014-2015 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. With Saint Joseph’s, Lang leads all areas related to Performance Fitness for Men’s Basketball. His philosophy focuses on building personalized strength, conditioning, mobility and nutrition plans for every athlete. He specializes in creating functional drills that simulate basketball specific movement body mechanics. Lang is also responsible for implementing all sports science initiatives, and tracks progress through data and metric resources. With Houston and Rio Grande, Lang tested and analyzed each player’s athletic performance and movement efficiency to help create comprehensive individualized training programs, along with coaching warm-up and stretching protocols for both practices and games. Lang was also an intricate part of the team’s pre-draft assessments as he worked potential draft picks through specialized strength and conditioning tests. Prior to joining the Rockets, Lang served as a strength and conditioning intern with Villanova Basketball, working with the men’s basketball program during their 2015-16 National Championship season. A native of Exton, Pennsylvania, Lang graduated from West Chester University in 2013 with a degree in exercise science and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in kinesiology from A.T. AMANDA CASALE DIR. OF OPERATIONS Second Season
Amanda Casale begins her second season as Saint Joseph’s director of men’s basketball operations in 2020-21. In her role, Casale leads and oversees many of the internal and external systems that helps the program function on a daily basis such as facilities, budget management, travel, the manager program, meal plans, housing and in game operations including tickets and gear selection. She is the program’s liaison with Former Players and Hawk Hill Alumni along with developing the team’s branding and relationship with BSN and NIKE. She works with department members to coordinate events such as the Former Player’s Game, The Celebration Banquet, along with experiences involving season ticket holders and campus and community constituents. Casale and Assistant Coach Justin Scott bring the Leadership Initiative to life as it is an integral part of Coach Lange’s focus on holistic development and program values. Casale joined the Hawks’ men’s basketball program in June of 2019 after spending three years as a basketball operations assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers. She helped run the 76ers Family Support Group for player and staff families, and coordinated tickets and credentials for players, front office, staff and agents as part of the organization’s Family Will Call. Additionally, Casale was responsible for special projects that included player personnel research, coaches’ game sheets, mock draft tracking and draft workout logistics. She also assisted with scheduling and arranging credentials for scouts and worked as an intermediary for both agents and shoe companies. Prior to joining the Sixers, Casale served as a student manager with the Syracuse men’s basketball team. Working with the Orange for four years, she was promoted to head manager her senior year as Syracuse advanced to the 2016 Final Four. She coordinated events that included Orange Madness, the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation Gala, and the Make A Wish Foundation Orange Women’s Fan Luncheon. A native of Northfield, New Jersey, Casale graduated from Syracuse in 2016 with degrees in selected studies in education and policy studies, with minors in coaching and psychology. “Amanda’s capacity and energy elevate the entire program every day. Being a Director of Basketball Operations for a program of Saint Joseph’s stature requires an ability to connect with a wide range of people in the course of a single day. Amanda set many of our systems in place during year one and she will continue to grow as a leader as things begin to take shape for our philosophy and purpose. REGGIE CAMERON Graduate Manager Second Season
Returning for his second season as Saint Joseph’s graduate manager for men’s basketball in 2020-21 is Reggie Cameron. Cameron assists all members of the staff on various duties including video editing, statistical analysis, player development, and other operational and program related duties. Cameron came to Hawk Hill in July of 2019 after playing professionally for two seasons, most recently for Esgueira Oli of the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol. Prior to beginning his professional career in Germany with the Dusseldorf Giant, Cameron was a four-year standout at Georgetown. Appearing in over 100 games with the Hoyas, he led Georgetown to a pair of postseason bids, including an appearance in the Third Round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Serving as team captain as a senior, he went on to play for the Orlando Magic’s NBA Summer League squad in 2017 before continuing his career overseas. Off the court, Cameron was heavily involved in the community at Georgetown as he volunteered with So Others May Eat (SOME) and Lead By Example Foundation. Serving as a counselor for both non-profits, he participated in programs designed to help community members in need find pathways out of poverty, taught youth the importance of physical and health education practices and encouraged making positive changes to everyday life. A native of Hackensack, New Jersey, Cameron was a standout at Paterson Catholic and Hudson Catholic. A four-year letterwinner, he finished his high school career with more than 1,700 points and was named First Team All-County three times and First Team All-State honoree.
MIKE JOLAOSO
Graduate Assistant Second Season
Beginning his second season as a graduate assistant with the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program is Mike Jolaoso. Joloaso assists all members of the staff on various roles including video editing, player development, and other operational and program related duties. Jolaoso came to Hawk Hill after a stellar four-year playing career at West Chester University. As a Golden Ram, Jolaoso appeared in 92 career games and helped the team earn three NCAA Tournament appearances. A member of both the West Chester Student Athletic Advisory Committee and the Horrocks Leadership Academy, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management. A native of Philadelphia, Jolaoso is currently working towards a master’s degree in athletic marketing.
ANDREW LUTES Graduate Manager First Season
Beginning his first season as a graduate manager with the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball team is Andrew Lutes ‘20. Graduating from SJU this past spring with a degree in accounting and finance, Lutes previously served as a team manager for the Hawks as an undergrad. He is currently working towards a master’s in business intelligence and analytics.

Program Services Specialist Second Season
Michelle Thomas enters her second year as Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball program services specialist. Thomas, a native of West Philadelphia, serves in a multi-faceted role that includes communicating with Academic Support, overseeing Hilferty Suite operations, social media branding and coordinating the schedule of Coach Lange. She is responsible for leading the program’s “DASH” meetings, which are a tool for promoting personal growth, maturity, and time management for team members. Thomas plays a key role in directing the team’s community service, including partnering with Assistant Coach Justin Scott to build the Hawk Hill Hoops Academy, an initiative that focuses on engagement and education through a diverse offering of clinics and seminars. Thomas came to Hawk Hill after spending seven years in education including a position as a family/teacher coach at Agora Cyber Charter School. She worked closely with students and families who are enrolled in online, cyber classes full-time. Promoted to Master Family Coach in 2015, Thomas facilitated solutions for student issues, strategically planned short and long-term academic goals for students and coordinated annual professional development workshops. She was also the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Coordinator for elementary schools and was also nominated to Coaches Think Tank Counsel in 2018. Thomas has spent over a decade as a facilitator with Learn 2 Lead, a summer camp program for students ranging from elementary school through college. Additionally, she has served as Chief Operating Officer at Nxt Level Inc., organizing basketball skills training for multiple age groups at various facilities and was an integral part of the company’s social media marketing campaigns. Thomas attended Episcopal Academy when it was located on what is now Saint Joseph’s Maguire Campus. She graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology, and a master’s degree in criminology, law and society.
