SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES vs NEW YORK RED BULLS STANFORD STADIUM, Palo Alto, Calif. 7:30 p.m. PT (ESPN / ESPN Deportes / TSN2) July 2, 2011 (WEEK 16; MLS Game 155) On the anniversary of one of the U.S. national team’s greatest days, the San Jose Earthquakes and New York Red Bulls meet on the site when the clubs face off at Stanford Stadium. The Earthquakes are coming off a wild scoreless draw with the LA Galaxy last weekend in the largest MLS crowd ever at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Red Bulls continued their road swing with a third game without a victory, reaching a 1-1 draw at the Chicago Fire. REFEREE: Edvin Jurisevic. The Red Bulls won the first leg, 1-0 in Santa Clara, but the Quakes overturned that result with a 3-1 win at Red Bull Arena to advance.  Coaches record: Hans Backe vs. SJ: P3 W2 L1 D0 … Frank Yallop v NY: P17 W5 L7 D5 LAST MEETING: 4/16: NY 3, SJ 0 (Rodgers 2, 15; Henry 87)  The Red Bulls took the lead after just two minutes. A corner from the left was flicked on at the near post, falling to Dane Richards. He chipped the ball back into the center where Luke Rodgers was able to steer home a header.  Rodgers and the Red Bulls doubled their lead in the 15th minute. Thierry Henry stripped the ball from an Earthquakes defender on the right flank and slotted a teasing ball across the face of the goal where Rodgers raced in to hammer home his second goal of the night.  Henry got his long-awaited goal with three minutes to play. Rodgers returned Henry’s earlier favor, chipping in a cross to the far post. Henry snuck behind a San Jose defender and powered a header into the far side netting.  NEW YORK RED BULLS (4-1-3-2): Bouna Coundoul - Jan Gunnar Solli, Rafael Marquez, Tim Ream, Roy Miller - Teemu Tainio - Dane Richards (John Rooney 93+), Dwayne De Rosario, Joel Lindpere (Mehdi Ballouchy 84) - Thierry Henry, Luke Rodgers (Juan Agudelo 90).  SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (4-1-4-1): Jon Busch – Jason Hernandez, Ike Opara, Brandon McDonald, Ramiro Corrales (Matt Luzunaris 77) - Sam Cronin - Bobby Convey, Simon Dawkins (Scott Sealy 64), Khari Stephenson (Chris Leitch 62), Ryan Johnson - Chris Wondolowski. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES The San Jose Earthquakes returned home for the first of a pair of high-profile matches, reaching a scoreless draw with the LA Galaxy on Saturday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Quakes have 20 points from 15 games on the season, sitting in sixth place in the Western Conference.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

LAST MATCH  The Galaxy finished the match with Mike Magee, a ninth-year forward, in net for the final 47 minutes while Los Angeles played a man down. The Galaxy survived after starting goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts left the match due to an fractured arm in the 24th minute and backup Josh Saunders received a straight red card in the 43rd.  Magee finished with four saves on the afternoon, with three occuring after the 80th minute -- though the Earthquakes nearly took an early lead, with Ricketts in goal, but Simon Dawkins' effort crashed off the woodwork. Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch made one save.  Earthquakes boss Frank Yallop made two changes to the team that fell 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City at Livestrong Sporting Park. Ryan Johnson and Simon Dawkins came back into the team, for Anthony Ampaipitakwong and Sam Cronin.  SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (4-4-2): Jon Busch - Steven Beitashour, Jason Hernandez, Bobby Burling, Ramiro Corrales - Bobby Convey, Brad Ring, Khari Stephenson (Anthony Ampaipitakwong 46), Ryan Johnson (Ellis McLoughlin 76) - Simon Dawkins, Steven Lenhart. TEAM NEWS  After exploding for 13 goals over a five-game span, the Earthquakes have now been shut out in back-to-back games, a first for this season.  “I thought that the first half was the best soccer that we have played since the team came back in 2008. We were moving the ball well and we created a number of chances. We should have been up a couple of goals,” said Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop.  It was the second time this season the Quakes played extensive minutes with a man-advantage where they weren’t able to turn it their way. They lost 1-0 at Philadelphia on April 30 despite playing a man-up for 50 minutes.  “We are disappointed that we didn’t get the three points today, especially playing a man up. We couldn’t break them down the way that we wanted to and LA really did a good job crushing the space,” Yallop said. “I can’t fault the guys for their effort, but we couldn’t sustain the good play we had early in the game in the second half.”  Striker Chris Wondolowski will again be available after missing four games while with the U.S. national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.  On Monday, the Earthquakes sent Brandon McDonald to D.C. United in exchange for allocation money.  “Ike [Opara] got healthy, Ike played well,” Quakes general manager John Doyle said. “We’ve always known we can count on Bobby [Burling]. Brad Ring playing well [at defensive midfielder, McDonald’s alternate spot], that covered another position. It became an opportunity to get some allocation money, and we took it.”  The Quakes have kept clean sheets in three of the last seven games, after recording just one shutout in their opening eight.  “I didn’t really have much to do today so it is a credit to the back four for making my job easy. Defensively we’ve been playing really well the past two months,” goalkeeper Jon Busch said. NEW YORK RED BULLS The New York Red Bulls played to a second draw in three games on their road trip, this time a 1-1 result with the Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Park. The Red Bulls have 24 points from 17 games, in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference. LAST MATCH  The Red Bulls took the lead with an opportunistic goal five minutes before the halftime whistle. Yamith Cuesta couldn't clear at the top of the 18, hitting the ball right in the path of Joel Lindpere, who collected and calmly slotted his shot past an onrushing Sean Johnson.  But Marco Pappa equalized for the home side in the 58th minute on a speculative shot from 30 yards, bouncing a left-footed effort toward the far post. New York goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul got to the ball in plenty of time, but missed on his attempted parry and the ball trickled into the net.  Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe made one change to the team that fell 4-2 to Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field. Thierry Henry came back from suspension for Austin da Luz.  NEW YORK RED BULLS (4-1-3-2): Bouna Coundoul - Jan Gunnar Solli, Carlos Mendes, Stephen Keel, Roy Miller - Teemu Tainio - Dane Richards, Joel Lindpere, Mehdi Ballouchy (Austin da Luz 84) - Dwayne De Rosario (Mike Jones 93+), Thierry Henry. TEAM NEWS  The Red Bulls are completing a four-game road swing with the visit to northern California. They have started the trip with two draws and a loss; New York has won once in its last 10 games.  “It’s been tough for us and perhaps a bit unlucky in the end,” head coach Hans Backe said. “Portland, we normally would have won that game and Seattle we were unlucky, I think, in that second half after we battled back. Then in Chicago, I think we were really fatigued.”

While the Red Bulls were not able to keep a clean sheet for the first time since April 30 (10 games), they did allow just the single goal after conceding seven in their previous team. “It’s been a big problem but we’ve focused on it and we have to stop it now. I thought we did better with that today,” Backe said. “We battled hard and deserved a point. We have to start coming out with three points.” Bouna Coundoul made his first start since May 15, after Greg Sutton played seven consecutive games between the posts. The Senegal international was beaten from long range for the lone goal. "You know, some days those bounces will go your way, others won’t," Coundoul said. "I think another day on a ball that makes that bounce, I would catch it easily. But once in a while the ball will take those bounces and you are left just watching the ball go in the net.” The Red Bulls have now played to six draws in 11 games where they’ve scored first. The six games in not coming away with maximum points after opening the scoring is the most in MLS. “I think everyone understands now that we cannot go on like this. We score one, but we give goals back. They get very stupid, easy goals against us, and then we fight to get the goals back. Then we do something stupid again. So, for me, game day should be like a party, I want to have fun. I play; I want to smile on the field. It’s not fun anymore,” said Joel Lindpere. On Monday, the Red Bulls sent shockwaves throughout MLS by dealing Dwayne De Rosario to D.C. United in exchange for Dax McCarty. De Rosario was obtained from Toronto FC just after the start of the season, scoring two goals with four assists in 13 appearances for the Red Bulls. “Dax is an exciting young player who will immediately add his dynamic style of play to our midfield,” said Red Bull New York general manager and sporting director Erik Soler. “He is an excellent two-way player who will contribute both to our defense and to our attack for seasons to come. To acquire such a promising player, we had to make a difficult decision in trading Dwayne. During his short time in New York, Dwayne has been a consummate professional. On Tuesday, the Red Bulls advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup following a 2-1 win against FC New York of USL PRO. Owen Morrison opened the scoring on 56 minutes for FCNY, but Corey Hertzog netted two minutes later, then John Rooney hit for the winner in the 65th minute. The Red Bulls end a four match MLS road swing when they visit the San Jose Earthquakes at Stanford Stadium. The Red Bulls have gone 0-1-2 so far on the trip, with draws at Portland on June 19 and Chicago on June 26. On Monday, the Red Bulls acquired midfielder Dax McCarty from D.C. United in exchange for midfielder Dwayne De Rosario. McCarty has featured in 13 games this season for United, registering two assists. Earlier this season, the Red Bulls defeated the ‘Quakes on April 16 by a 30 score at Red Bull Arena. Luke Rodgers was the Man of the Match, scoring two of New York’s goals and assisting on the other.

RED BULLS AT SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES– JULY 2, 2011 – 10:30 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD NEW YORK ENDS FOUR-GAME MLS ROAD SWING IN SAN JOSE SATURDAY NIGHT The Red Bulls finish off a four game road trip when they travel west to square off against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at 10:30 PM ET (TV: ESPN2, Radio: WADO 1280 AM). The match will be played at Stanford Stadium, the 50,000-seat venue on the campus of Stanford University in Stanford, CA. The Red Bulls rebounded from a 4-2 loss in Seattle last Thursday with a 1-1 draw at Chicago in their last match on Sunday. New York staked itself to a 1-0 lead on Joel Lindpere’s second goal of the season in the 40th minute. Chicago found the equalizer in the 58th minute from team-leading goal scorer and Guatemalan international Marco Pappa. Neither team could find the net again and New York earned its 24th point of the season, improving to 5-3-9 on the season. Currently, the Red Bulls are tied with the Columbus Crew for second place in the Eastern Conference, and sit two points behind the conference-leading Philadelphia Union. San Jose comes into Sunday’s match with a 5-5-5 record with 20 points, which is good for sixth place in the Western Conference. The Earthquakes earned a point in their last match, a 0-0 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy. San Jose couldn’t find a goal despite being up a man when Galaxy substitute goalkeeper Josh Saunders was sent off in the 43rd minute. With Saunders having already replaced injured goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts earlier in the match, Los Angeles was forced to employ former Red Bulls forward Mike Magee in goal. Magee made four saves as the Earthquakes were forced to settle for a point. The Earthquakes feature last season’s MLS Golden Boot winner, Chris Wondolowski, who leads the club in goals this season with six, and is back from CONCACAF Gold Cup duty with the United States. This will be the second meeting of the season between the clubs. On April 16 at Red Bull Arena, New York defeated San Jose by a 3-0 score, as Luke Rodgers turned in a two goal, one assist performance en route to being named MLS Player of the Week. All-time, New York is 10-15-6 against San Jose in the regular season. Last year, the Earthquakes eliminated the Red Bulls from the MLS Cup Playoffs in the two-legged Eastern Conference Semifinals with a 3-2 aggregate victory. ROONEY, HERTZOG SCORE AS RED BULLS ADVANCE TO U.S. OPEN CUP QUARTERS The New York Red Bulls earned a berth in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating USL Pro side, FC New York, 21, on Tuesday night at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls came back from a one-goal deficit in the second half on tallies by Corey Hertzog and John Rooney. New York will next face MLS Eastern Conference foe, the Chicago Fire - which beat the Rochester Rhinos, 1-0, on the road Tuesday night - at TOYOTA Park in Bridgeview, IL, on July 12. Kickoff is set for 8:30 PM ET. The Red Bulls went on the attack early and got a good chance at goal just four minutes in. A giveaway by FC New York in the midfield led to a Red Bulls counterattack, spurred on by New York’s Marcos Paullo. The Brazilian-born midfielder ran in towards the penalty area and unleashed a shot from outside the box, but his effort sailed over the bar. Then, in the 13th minute, Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo fired a half volley effort on a long ball by Tim Ream that went high. Midway through the first half, the Red Bulls were still pressing for the match’s first goal. Austin da Luz tried his luck from 30 yards out, but his shot was parried and safely recovered by FC New York goalkeeper Steve Diaz. Diaz came up big again in the half’s waning minutes. Agudelo received a ball from Hertzog and weaved his way down the left side of the penalty area, but Diaz did well to deny the U.S. International from close range.

FC New York took the lead on a combination from two substitutes in the 56th minute. Just inside the Red Bulls’ end, Don Smart played the ball to Owen Morrison. Morrison fired a right-footed shot at goal from over 25yards-out that beat goalkeeper Greg Sutton and rose into to the net’s top left corner. The Red Bulls responded and tied the game just two minutes later. The FC New York defense failed to clear the ball, and Agudelo rose up and won a header, nodding it into the path of Hertzog. Hertzog dribbled in towards goal on the right side of the penalty area, and took a low, sharpangle shot that beat Diaz at the near post to even the game. Seven minutes later, Rooney scored to give the Red Bulls a 2-1 lead. At midfield, Ream picked out Rooney just outside of the penalty area. From there, Rooney let go a right-footed blast to the low left corner that bounded past Diaz’s outstretched arm. A COUPLE OF FIRSTS In the Red Bulls’ 2-1 victory over FC New York on Tuesday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, two Red Bulls notched their first goals as Red Bulls. With the club trailing 1-0, forward Corey Hertzog pulled the game level in the 58th minute with his first career professional goal. Minutes later, the Red Bulls took the lead for good on John Rooney’s first goal for the club. Both players were drafted by the Red Bulls in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Hertzog in the first round (13th overall) out of Penn State University, and Rooney in the second round (25th overall). Rooney has made four appearances in the regular season in 2011, while Hertzog has made five. ACADEMY PRODUCT HOT MAKES PRO DEBUT Red Bulls Academy graduate Sacir Hot made his Red Bulls debut on Tuesday in the club’s 2-1 victory over FC New York in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Hot entered the match at halftime, replacing Stephen Keel. Hot became the third Red Bulls Academy player to appear for the first team, joining teammates Juan Agudelo and Matt Kassel. The Red Bulls signed Hot on Jan. 31, 2011. THREE RED BULLS MAKE NY DEBUTS Red Bulls defenders Teddy Schneider and Tyler Lassiter and midfielder Marcos Paullo all made their Red Bulls debuts in the club’s U.S. Open Cup victory over FC New York on Tuesday. Schneider started the match and played 66 minutes before being replaced by Lassiter. Marcos Paullo started and played all 90 minutes in the win. Schneider was drafted out of Princeton University by the team in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft, while Lassiter was taken in the second round (30th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. New York signed Paullo on Feb. 2, 2011. RED BULLS ACQUIRE MIDFIELDER DAX MCCARTY Red Bull New York announced June 27 that it acquired midfielder Dax McCarty from D.C. United in exchange for midfielder Dwayne De Rosario. McCarty, a player in the U.S. Men’s National Team pool, will be available for selection for New York’s MLS regular season showdown against the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday, July 2. “Dax is an exciting young player who will immediately add his dynamic style of play to our midfield,” said Red Bull New York General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler. “He is an excellent two-way player who will contribute both to our defense and to our attack for seasons to come.” “To acquire such a promising player, we had to make a difficult decision in trading Dwayne. During his short time in New York, Dwayne has been a consummate professional. We wish him the best of luck in D.C.” McCarty, 24, has played in 13 games for United, notching 11 starts and two goals. His rights were acquired by D.C. from the Portland Timbers

RED BULLS AT SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES– JULY 2, 2011 – 10:30 PM ET in addition to allocation money on Nov. 24, 2010 in exchange for defender Rodney Wallace and the lower of United’s two fourth round selections in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Portland had drafted McCarty with the first pick in the 2010 Expansion Draft. Prior to joining D.C., the Winter Park, FL native was an integral part of FC Dallas’ run to the 2010 MLS Cup Final. In 2010, McCarty featured in 21 matches, tallying one goal and two assists while establishing himself as one of the top young midfielders in MLS. He also scored against Real Salt Lake in FC Dallas’ 1-1 tie in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals and appeared in all four postseason games. McCarty enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2009, recording three goals and six assists in 28 games played. Drafted in the first round of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of North Carolina, McCarty, who had a career-high seven assists in 2007, amassed 93 appearances, 71 starts, five goals and 17 assists over five seasons in the Lone Star State. On the international level, McCarty has earned five caps for the United States and made his senior team debut on Nov. 14, 2009 against Slovakia. McCarty has also represented his country on the Under-20 level, where he appeared in all five games in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007 and was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team that competed in Beijing. He was in addition a part of the U.S. Under-17 Residency Program. McCarty played two seasons at North Carolina, being named NSCAA second team All-America and First Team All-ACC in his sophomore year. De Rosario joined the Red Bulls on April 1, 2011 in a trade that sent midfielder Tony Tchani, defender Danleigh Borman and New York’s natural first round 2012 MLS SuperDraft selection to Toronto FC. The Canadian International featured in 13 games for New York during his stay, recording two goals and four assists. BACKE TO MISS SAN JOSE TRIP Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe will not travel for the team’s trip to San Jose after undergoing a minor procedure Wednesday. Doctors recommended that Backe should not travel over the weekend. He will return to the team’s training session on Monday. New York coaches Jan Halvor Halvorsen and Mike Petke will take charge from the sidelines against the Earthquakes. RED BULLS EARN 1-1 TIE IN CHICAGO New York midfielder Joel Lindpere scored his second goal of the season in the Red Bulls’ 1-1 tie against the Chicago Fire Sunday afternoon at TOYOTA Park. With the result, the Red Bulls, currently in second place in the Eastern Conference and two points behind the Philadelphia Union, moved to 24 points off a 5-3-9 record. The Red Bulls also wrapped up an eight-day span which saw them play three consecutive road matches.

Both teams traded chances in the first half. In the 17th minute, Fire forward Orr Barouch volleyed a Baggio Husidic pass just over the crossbar. Four minutes later, New York’s Dwayne De Rosario made a quick turn around his defender to get space before finding an open Dane Richards, whose shot was tipped by a fully-extended Sean Johnson. Lindpere tested Johnson soon after with a 23-yard strike that the goalkeeper could only parry out of play. Barouch was inches away from putting the hosts in front, nodding down a Patrick Nyarko delivery wide of the left post. New York took the lead with five minutes left in the half. Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry, returning to the lineup after serving a one-game red card suspension, flicked the ball over the top to an on-rushing Lindpere. Chicago defender Yamith Cuesta tried to knock it out, but the ball hit off Lindpere and into the box. The Estonian got to it first and rolled it in with his right foot. The Fire searched for an equalizer in the second half and Marco Pappa almost provided it, swinging a 20-yard free kick attempt past the right upright. Pappa made no mistake when given a second opportunity in the 58th minute, collecting a Red Bulls clearance outside of the box and bouncing a left footed shot past goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and into the back of the net. The Red Bulls looked to retake the lead with 15 minutes left, as defender Stephen Keel’s diving header from Lindpere’s corner kick delivery missed the goalframe. On the other end, Coundoul kept the game tied, getting a hand to substitute Diego Chaves' right-footed blast. RED BULLS DROP 4-2 DECISION AT SEATTLE The first-place New York Red Bulls came back from an early two-goal deficit, but eventually succumbed, 4-2, to Seattle Sounders FC in front of 46,065 at CenturyLink Field Thursday night. New York’s Dane Richards, playing in his first match after returning from CONCACAF Gold Cup duty, put his name on the scoresheet in the first half. The loss was only New York’s third of the season, as it stayed on 23 points off a 53-8 record and was tied atop the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union. Early in the match, the Red Bulls looked to get on the board when Austin da Luz found an open Dwayne De Rosario in the left side of the penalty box. However, De Rosario couldn’t hit the bouncing pass on target. The Sounders took the lead in the 11th minute. A Seattle corner kick was knocked out of the box to midfielder Erik Friberg, who cut it to his right foot and curled a shot past a screened Greg Sutton and into the back of the net. Seattle then doubled its advantage a minute later on a similar play, as Osvaldo Alonso’s left-footed volley from a Stephen Keel corner kick clearance deflected into the goal. New York brought the game back to 2-1 in the 31st minute. Joel Lindpere slid it to Richards, who took a couple of touches before rifling an attempt from the corner of the penalty box that goalkeeper Kasey Keller got a piece of and could not keep out. The goal was Richards’ third of the 2011 campaign. The Red Bulls drew level and gained momentum in the 58th minute thanks mainly through the efforts of defender Jan Gunnar Solli. De Rosario found the Norwegian on the right wing and Solli drove it towards goal, putting it between the legs of a Sounders defender and slinging a low pass into the six-yard box that Zach Scott put into his own net. In the back and forth encounter, Seattle took the lead for good nine minutes later. Leo Gonzalez’s corner kick to the near post was nodded on

RED BULLS AT SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES– JULY 2, 2011 – 10:30 PM ET by substitute Roger Levesque and into the goal. Levesque got his second with 12 minutes to play, blocking an attempted Sutton clearance at the top of the box, rounding the goalkeeper and knocking it into the empty net. LINDPERE KNOCKS IN SECOND GOAL OF 2011 Red Bulls midfielder Joel Lindpere scored his second goal of the 2011 season on Sunday in the Red Bulls’ 1-1 draw at Chicago. The Estonian scored his first of the 2011 season back on April 21 at D.C. United in a 40 New York victory. Lindpere, who was voted as the team MVP last season, also has three assists in 2011. RICHARDS TALLIES THIRD GOAL OF SEASON, 16TH OF CAREER Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards returned from representing Jamaica at the Gold Cup to score his third goal of the season on June 23 at Seattle. Richards’ long distance curler was his third goal of the 2011 season, to go along with three assists. The goal was Richards’ 16th career regular season goal for the club, and his 18th in all competitions. Both marks move him into 10th place on the club’s all-time goal scoring list. HENRY TIED ATOP MLS IN GOALS SCORED: Red Bulls captain and forward Thierry Henry helped the Red Bulls comeback to earn a 3-3 draw with the Portland Timbers Sunday, June 19, scoring his eighth goal of the season in the 73rd minute to pull New York to within one. Henry’s eight goals ties him with Los Angeles Galaxy attacker Landon Donovan and D.C. United forward Charlie Davies for the league lead in the 2011 Golden Boot race. 2011 MLS GOALS LEADERS Player (Team) T-1 Thierry Henry (NY) T-1. Landon Donovan (LA) T-1. Charlie Davies (DC) T-4. He made his MLS and Red Bulls’ debut on June 26 at Chicago, coming on as a substitute in second half stoppage time for Dwayne De Rosario. “We are excited to sign Mike, as we wanted to bring him in to see if he can provide depth to our left back position,” said Red Bull New York General Manager and Sporting Director Erik Soler. “We look forward to tracking his progress with us this season.” Jones, a left-footed defender, was selected by Sporting Kansas City as the 28th overall selection in the 2011 MLS Supplemental draft on Jan. 18, 2011, before being waived on May 5. He did not make any MLS appearances for Kansas City, but played in one reserve league match. The St. Peters, MO native played at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for four years, being named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team in 2010 while playing 60 games during his college career, notching six goals and two assists. In his senior year, Jones and the Cougars were runners-up in the MVC Tournament. Jones faced the Red Bulls in a reserve match while playing for the Columbus Crew as a guest player on May 30 at Montclair State University. DA LUZ NOTCHES FIRST CAREER GOAL, ASSIST: Red Bulls midfielder Austin da Luz scored his first career goal on June 19 against the Portland Timbers, opening the scoring with a fourth minute goal. Da Luz then recorded his first ever MLS assist on the Red Bulls’ second goal, when he set up Thierry Henry with a nifty feed into the box. Da Luz, who was drafted by the team in the first round (14th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, made his Red Bulls debut this season on May 28 in a 11 draw at Vancouver. He has started three of the last four Red Bulls’ matches.

BACKE RECORD STILL INTACT: By drawing with the Chicago Fire 1-1 on Sunday afternoon, the Red Bulls remained unbeaten under head coach Hans Backe when they score the first goal of a match. In 2010 and 2011 combined, New York has posted a record of 19-0-7 in games where they opened the scoring. RED BULLS’ TWO GOAL COMEBACK The Red Bulls’ came from two goals behind to draw the Portland Timbers 3-3 on June 19. It was the first time the Red Bulls came back from two goals down at the 70th minute mark to tie or win since July 12, 2003 at New England. The Revolution led the match 3-1 at the 70th minute mark before a 73rd minute own goal and a Ricardo Clark strike in the 76th leveled the match at three. Additionally, Heck oversaw the NBA Canada office in Toronto and managed the day-to-day league business relationships with the Wizards, Celtics, Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, and Sonics. BACKE TO COACH MLS ALL STARS; VOTING UNDERWAY New York Red Bulls Coach Hans Backe will lead the MLS All-Stars against Manchester United in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on July 27 at Red Bull Arena (Live on ESPN2, Galavision, and TSN at 8:30 p.m. ET). Fans can also vote now for the 108 nominated players – the top six per team chosen by a panel of media members – by logging onto www.mlssoccer.com and via text messaging (22442). The six Red Bulls are: Dwayne De Rosario, Thierry Henry, Joel Lindpere, Rafa Marquez, Tim Ream, Luke Rodgers. Major League Soccer selected Backe for competitive considerations -- he does not have to travel to and from this summer’s showcase event, he is familiar with the facilities, and his team plays at home on July 23 against FC Dallas. These factors provide advantages to the MLS All-Stars as they prepare to face the English Premier League champions and prevent other MLS coaches from missing any training sessions with their clubs. Backe was a finalist for the 2010 MLS Coach of the Year award after the Red Bulls matched the best season-to-season improvement in MLS history, going from last place in 2009 to first in the Eastern Conference in 2010. Backe, 59, has almost 30 years of professional coaching experience. In addition, MLS unveiled the selection process for the 2011 MLS All-

GOALKEEPER BY COMMITTEE The Red Bulls are just the second team in Major League Soccer history to record their first three shutouts of a season with three different goalkeepers. Greg Sutton blanked Seattle Sounders FC, 1-0, in the season opening match on March 19, while Alex Horwath followed up the effort on March 26 at Columbus, as the Red Bulls drew 0-0. Bouna Coundoul, who set a franchise record last year with 11 shutouts, kept a clean sheet on April 16 in a 3-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. The last team to achieve this feat was the 2001 New England Revolution. ACADEMY U-18s TRAIN WITH ARGENTINA The Red Bulls Academy Under-18s were invited by the Argentina National Team to train together on March 23 and 24 in preparation for Argentina’s clash against the United States Men’s National Team, which ended in a 1-1 tie at New Meadowlands Stadium on March 28. The Under-18s took to the pitch with Argentina at the Timex Performance Center in East Rutherford, NJ, participating in possession drills and small sided games. “The Red Bulls are getting worldwide recognition and the fact that we were invited shows that Argentina respects us and our club,” said Red Bulls Director of Youth Programs Bob Montgomery. “It is a dream come true for many of our players to train with a team of this caliber. We’re very thankful for this opportunity and for the way that the Argentinean Federation has been so accommodating to us through this process.” “The Academy offers so many opportunities, every practice is intense, the coaches really keep everything really professional, and everything about it just helps everybody get better,” said midfielder Sean Davis of Holmdel, NJ. “The fact that there’s a professional team and the fact that they offer opportunities like this just makes everybody want to come to this club and want to get better.”
