About Sherry Snipes Sherry Snipes is a dynamic authority on diversity and inclusion who is passionate about the changing face of the world and changes facing the world. She has the unique experience of leading diversity initiatives at public and non-profit organizations where she has been responsible for all aspects of diversity and inclusion from design and implementation to re-engineering, including launching multiple women’s leadership and diversity training programs.

As President of Glow Media, an event management company, Cheryl has criss-crossed the globe supervising, coordinating, and executing hundreds of pieces of the puzzle that magically come together when any one of her events launches. From picking the Nordic menu in Copenhagen, to the walk-through in Berlin to verify the hotel was just as good as the gorgeous photos, to playing a round of golf in the Bahamas with an executive to finalize the smallest details, this entrepreneur brings the full range of her energy, expertise and enthusiasm to each project she takes on.

Their vision, their determination and their commitment to diversity have already affected their corporations profoundly. People like Dr. Ben Chavis, Edie Fraser, and Dr. Michael Joyner know all about lifelong commitments. Dr. Chavis, a former Executive Director of the NAACP, first person to coin the phrase “environmental racism”. “Racial discrimination in the deliberate targeting of the ethnic and minority communities.” Dr. Joyner’s Touchless Flatware has successfully revolutionized the dining experience, using innovative techniques and design.

Glow On To The Next Step After founding Glow Media in 1998, her own public relations and event marketing agency, Gentry conceptualized campaigns and touted clients such as Dupont Lycra®, the New Jersey Nets, Vibe Magazine and fashion brand Girbaud. She enhanced her focus in the event management business in 2001, and was promptly nominated for and won numerous awards from ISES, the International Special Events Society. Her flawless execution and innovative strategies garnered an ISES Esprit Award in 2007 where she won Best Corporate Event for Allianz. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 Gentry and Glow garnered even more nominations including Best Event Planner, Best Association Event and Best Non-Profit Event. Basking in the Glow She has received a variety of awards including the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund Founders Award for Excellence in Service and the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources Special Association Award. She is also a certified New York State and New York City Minority Women Business Enterprise. She is the co-creator of the Diversity and Inclusion Awards, (DANDI) which heralds individuals and organizations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive world. In 2009, she was inducted into the YWCA/New York City Top Women Executives.

Using canny business sense and a commitment to improving diversity and inclusion, these individuals and others like them are leading the way toward real change. Inclusion isn’t new, but it promises great things. I believe it begins, ultimately, when you follow your heart, and make a difference.

In 2010, she founded GLOW, (Golf and Leadership Opportunities for Women), a division of the company and is a certified member of the PGA Golf Industry Supplier Diversity Initiative, helping to promote golf and encourage participation in the sport from minority women.

Working on The DANDI’s has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I know I speak for all of us who have worked on this very special project. We hope that the individuals and companies we honor, and their stories we tell will inspire you to look around and see what you can do. Our website is a great place to begin.

There She Glows An avid international traveler for business as well as pleasure, she journeyed to Cuba on a humanitarian mission, and has visited Dubai, Barcelona, Portugal, South Africa, Bahamas, Copenhagen, Brazil, Japan, Barbados, London, Berlin and Zurich in the last few years.

In 2011 she founded the Global Diversity Collaborative, a start-up non-profit focused on leveraging technology to build an international network of executives, professionals, activists and educators.

From Executive Producer Sherry Snipes: Dear DANDI Honorees, Ambassadors, Speakers, Supporters & Friends, I am beyond excited about the DANDI Awards and Executive Forum which all started with a conversation in London with my dear friend Cheryl Gentry a few years ago. I have been blessed to meet many amazing people face to face and electronically who have become an integral part of my network. During the past few years as we have interacted globally, across industries, I realized that we all have the same needs regarding support and recognition for the tremendous work that we do driving real change in our communities, corporations and businesses. Although, we may not talk every day, believe me, I hear you! Let me step back and congratulate all of the other efforts to engage this profession. I believe there is room for everyone at the table, but what I feel what is truly lacking is a vehicle that publicly real time demonstrates the value of diversity and inclusion both nationally and internationally beyond diversity executives. The DANDI Awards is one important step in that continuum. Sherry leads diversity programming at the American Institute of Architects. She previously held the role of Global Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement for Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) and also held key leadership roles with MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc. (NYSE: MSM), John Kaldor Fabricmaker and the Society for Human Resource Management. In 2011 Sherry was recognized by The Network Journal as one of the “25 Most Influential Black Women in Business” and 2009 she received the NAAAHR Greater New York Leadership Award. Sherry has been featured in numerous publications including The Network Journal, Newsday, Diversity Careers, Diversity Executive, Uptown Professional and Savoy Professional. She is a sought after speaker who has participated in US and European World Diversity Leadership Summits, European Black Women's Symposium, Hungarian Women's Forum and numerous forums and conferences. She is chairs the Advisory Board for the STEM Academy at Cardozo Senior H.S. in Washington D.C. and has served on the boards of Uptown Professional magazine, PGA Glow Golf Initiative, American Lyric Theatre and Partnership with Children. Meet the DANDI Ambassadors Beatrice Achaleke, CEO/Founder, European Diversity Congress Beatrice Achaleke is the best personification of her own slogan "Let the (diversity) sun shine!" - radiant, powerful and winning under every aspect. So much charme and humor despite - or maybe because - she had to put up with so many kinds of frustrations being a black woman in a white society. Yes, indeed, she is recognizable, she is standing out, but this is just the starting point of why she is standing up for the recognition of diversity as a value, as a chance, as something nobody is able to neglect in a globalized world. Beatrice Achaleke is CEO of Diversity Leadership and General Manager of the "European Diversity & Business Congress". Before that she was strategic partner of the WDLS (World Diversity Leadership Summit) for Europe.

Furthermore she is the founder and chairwoman of the "Black European Women's Council" (BEWC), a European parent organization of more than 38 immigrants' organizations. 2008 she candidated as the first black woman for the parliamentary elections in Austria. 2010 she was announced on Rank 3 in the Power List 2010 of the Most Powerful and Influential Black Women in Europe by the award winning Blog "Black Women in Europe". Achaleke is the editor of the book "Voices of Black European Women 1" and the yearly status report on the situation of black people in Austria. She has been awarded with the "World Diversity Innovation Award" by the World Diversity Leadership Council in Washington 2009, the

Mark Szollar, Executive Director, AscendNAAMBA "Miriam Makeba african Diva Award" (2009) and the "MIA Award" (2008) for her humanitarian and social engagement. 2008 she also received the badge of honor of the Republic of Austria for her contribution to the intercultural dialogue. Her first book "Vielfalt statt Einfalt" was published in November 2011. The second edition was on its' way only three months later. Beatrice Achaleke engages her audiences with her unique "EPI approach": entertainprovoke- and involve. "I want to create a culture that recognizes, respects, values and promotes differences as a core asset of organizations and companies", she says when being asked about which change she wants to make with her speaking.

Marsha Haywood, President of StepWise Associates Author, Talent Development Expert and Empowerment Coach are a few of the many hats that President of StepWise Associates, Marsha Haygood, wears. Former corporate executive and active contributing editor to national publications, Marsha has a rich multicultural understanding of individuals and organizations that she incorporates in her coaching and presentations. With a Bachelors of Arts degree from Lehman College in New York and a Training and Development Certification from New York University, Marsha ensures that her entire life and mission is dedicated to the success of others. Marsha is a highly-acclaimed thought leader who encourages success in individuals and corporations alike. Experienced in public speaking and corporate engagement, she knows how to translate leadership theory into practice. Marsha has been featured as THE D&NDI AWARDS | NEW YORK 2013

one of the elite in Speaking of Success, a book on building leadership, along with best-selling authors Stephen Covey, Ken Blanchard and Jack Canfield. Co-author of The Little Black Book of Success: Laws of Leadership for Black Women, her wisdom and notes have been combined in a book that provides guidance and support for women. Published by Random House/One World Press in 2010 and dubbed as mentor in your pocket. The Little Black Book of Success was nominated for the esteemed NAACP Literary Award. Marsha Haygood has won numerous awards including the prestigious YMCA Black Achievement Award, The Network Journal s Influential Black Women in Business Award and The National Association of African Americans in Human Resources Trailblazer Award. Marsha was recently honored with

Mark assumed the role as Executive Director of AscendNAAMBA on July 8th, 2013. Ascend is a non-profit Pan-Asian organization whose mission is to develop leadership skills among the Pan-Asian community at various career levels. Prior to joining AscendNAAMBA, Mark enjoyed a terrific 30 year career at The New York Times. At the Times he for worked in a variety of positions and departments and retired as the Advertising Director of Diversity, Recruitment and Sports Marketing. In addition to his career at the Times Mark is an active member of “VOCES”, the New York Times Hispanic-American Affinity Group. He is also on the Advisory Board for the National Association of Black Sports Professionals, as well as the Advisory Board for Veterans Across America. Mark was also a judge of the

2006 Out and Equal, “OUTIE” awards. In addition, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Mark was invited to the World Diversity Conference held in Prague, the United Nations, Washington, DC and most recently Harvard University, to moderate a panel on how Sports brings people from Diverse Cultures together. Most recently in 2012, Mark received the “Advocate of the Year” award from the Student Corporate Internship Program”, which identifies the most promising minority high school students in the New York tri-state area. In addition to his professional career, in 2003, Mark was inducted into the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, (not as a player but as an umpire). He loves youth baseball and volunteers his time to umpire

Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. Mark graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Recreation Management from Oregon State University and he received his MBA in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1989.

Chuck Obina, President and CEO, Global Diversity and Inclusion Foundation the Community Service Award for her continued commitment to the success of others and the community she serves. She is a founding member of Black Women of Influence, a professional network across industry women with a mission of developing the next generation of influential women in business. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for YouthBridge NY, a non-profit high school leadership development organization, and formerly served as a Senior Advisory Board Member of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources of Greater New York. Marsha devotes her time to developing and facilitating coaching programs, workshops, speaking engagements and book signings throughout the country.

Chuck Obina is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Diversity & Inclusion Foundation (GDIF), the nation’s largest global diversity and inclusion non-profit organization. GDIF leads in diversity and inclusion by driving worldwide executive leadership engagement, values and responsibilities and by utilizing workforce diversity at all levels, and building collaboration and commitment for a balanced work-life environment. Mr. Obina has served on over 80 local, national and global non-profit organizations in his 26 years of nonprofit management and board development. He is a worldwide collaborator and net weaver with many external relationships. He has significant experience as an organizational leader, partnership builder, fund raiser, and workplace advocate. He also sits on a

Dr. Angela Victoria Shaw I am currently a dual-national Belgian/American residing in Toulouse, France since 2002. A graduate of the Harvard Law School class of 1975, I hold a Bachelors degree cum laude from Hunter College in political science and economics. I have been a member of the New York State Bar since my admission in 1976. Currently an empty-nester with: a 25 year old daughter in the third year of a PhD program in bio-chemistry at MIT; a 30 year old son, former resident of Australia, working as an engineer for Baker Hughes Corporation and currently finishing an MBA at IMD in Lausanne,Switzerland; and a 33 year old son residing in China, working as a university counsellor for Yew Chung International School of Shanghai.

From 1989 until the present I have served as: Schools Committee Chair for the Harvard Alumni Clubs in Taipei and Brussels; a member of the executive committee of Democrats Abroad in Taipei, Brussels and Toulouse; a member of various expatriate women’s organizations, including FOCUSBrussels, FAWCO (the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas), BEWC (Black European Women’s Council) and Catalyst; a lecturer at the University of Toulouse (Social Science campus). In addition to my aforementioned expatriate experiences; prior to 1989 I spent many years working to create my own broadcasting companies: Applied Communications Technologies, Inc. and Spectron Broadcasting Corp., working for Westinghouse Broad-

casting, IBM, the Federal Communications Commission, the NAACP and Howard University, Hofstra University, Adelphi University and Medgar Evers College. In a time when black Americans were actively fighting for racial desegregation and civil and human rights…in a country that seemed more tolerant than most nations around the world, I was accepted to Harvard Law School only 6 years after the very first black woman in its 200 year history graduated. Moreover, my marriage license to my Belgian husband from the state of Virginia was issued 6 years after inter-racial marriage was legalized by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Springboard also produces the world-renowned Disability Matters Awards Banquet and Conference. Vogel is the author of DIVE IN, Springboard into the Profitability, Productivity and Potential of the Special Needs Workforce, a highly acclaimed must-read business book. She is a regular contributor to Profiles in Diversity Journal, Diversity MBA Magazine and Diversity Executive Magazine, and has authored articles for many other professional, industry and consumer publications. Human rights activist, pioneer for racial equality, internationally recognized expert on sports issues, scholar and author Richard E. Lapchick is often described as “the racial conscience of sport.” He brought his commitment to equality and his belief that sport can be an effective instrument of positive social change to University of Central Florida where he accepted an endowed chair in August 2001. It has been named one of the nation’s top five programs by the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and ESPN The Magazine. In 2009 it was named the #1 MBA program in the nation for volunteer service. Lapchick is a regular columnist for ESPN.com and The Sports Business Journal. He has written 16 books, more than 550 articles and has given more than 2,800 public speeches.

He is founder and president of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. Lapchick has received eight honorary degrees. He was named the Florida Public Citizen of the Year in 2006. Lapchick was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Sports for six years, one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators in America and one of the 20 Most Influential People in College Sport. Lapchick was one of 200 guests personally invited by Nelson Mandela to his inauguration after leading the American sports boycott of South Africa from 1975 until the end of Apartheid.

Itu Otu, Manager of Supplier Diversity, Mars Chocolate George Santiago, Commissioner, International Baseball Foundation George Santiago is one of the world’s leading authorities on world baseball. Born and raised in New York’s Spanish Harlem, he is a lifelong baseball aficionado and considers himself privileged to work in the game. A graduate of the New York City school system, attended college in Elmira, N.Y. Currently, working as a Major League Baseball and International Baseball consultant. He also is a representative for “ITRAC,” a vision-training company for hitters. Additionally, Santiago was a partner in The Gamma Group, which represented retired Major League players such as Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal, Luis Tiant, Rico Carty and Marvin Benard. He is the owner of

George Santiago Management Group, which also represents Major League players. Santiago is certified as a player agent by the Major League Baseball Players Association. Santiago has served as an International Baseball Federation (IBAF) Technical Commissioner (only five officially named in the United States) since 2005. Since 1994, he has had the distinguished honor of working with, and for, baseball home run kings Hank Aaron and Sadaharu Oh. In 1990, the duo started the World Children’s Baseball Fair (WCBF), sharing the great game of baseball through education. Santiago is the creative force and co-producer of Los Magnificos, a 90-minute

documentary that chronicles the lives and playing careers of the 11 Latino players in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The film is in production. Santiago currently lives in New York City.

Itu Otu is the Manager of Supplier Diversity at Mars Chocolate North America. He is a 20 year veteran of supplier diversity. Itu has been with the company for 5 years. Since joining the company, his efforts have led to increased spend (CAGR 9%) with Minority and Women Business Enterprises (MWBEs). He created a robust Second tier procurement initiative that encouraged Mars business partners to engage more diverse businesses and a mentoring program that positioned mentees for immediate business opportunities. For these initiatives and the impact his efforts have had in the communities we do business, he received the Nation’s Champions of Diversity Award in 2011. Prior to joining Mars, he had a 22 year career at the Walt Disney World Resort where he

progressed through several roles within Merchandising, Accounting, Finance, Minority and Women Business Development and was instrumental in positioning Walt Disney World Resort as a choice destination for multicultural convention businesses. Meet the Speakers Bruce Stewart Deputy Director Training, Compliance and Strategic Initiatives Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Bruce J. Stewart currently serves as Deputy Director, Office of Diversity and Inclusion with the United States Office of Personnel Management. In this role he is responsible for implementation of the President’s 2011 Executive Order 13583 on Diversity and Inclusion to coordinate government wide diversity, compliance, training and strategic initiatives effecting 1.8 million employees located domestically and abroad. Prior to taking on the role of Deputy Director, Bruce founded iGlobal Network, a multimedia training and education company working with clients such as the United States Air Force, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Shook, Hardy,& Bacon. In 2007 he retired as a Lt. Colonel from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. His last assign-

ment at the Pentagon was as the Air National Guard’s (ANG) Chief, Office of Cultural Transformation and Diversity for the Air National Guard where he formulated innovative policies to improve diversity, cultural competence, and Inclusion capabilities of Air (110,00 personnel) and Army National Guard members(350,000 personnel). During his Air Force career, Bruce was also attached to the Special Forces, served as a Management Engineer and Computer and Communications Commander. A sought after speaker and thought leader; he has engaged in numerous leadership and diversity initiatives at the local, state and national levels; for the past 17 years Bruce has been an Adjunct Professor with Friends University and National Louis University and

Knox LaSister is an attorney with more than 30 years of experience in Real Estate Law, Communications Law, Business Law, as well as, business development, property management, operations automation and management, marketing, and regulatory compliance. He has been responsible for managing, organizing, staffing, planning, and administering a wide variety of federal, state and local government Urban Renewal programs and project initiatives around the United States, the Caribbean, and Africa. Mr. LaSister has had significant achievements in the implementation of mission-critical deployments by federal, state and local agencies involved in residential and commercial capital projects and community economic development programs that rely upon public /private/community partnerships. He has directed federal contracts involving assessment and technical assistance to federal grantees. Mr. LaSister has also managed multi-million dollar projects involving federal, state, and local resources, as well as, multiple partners. Through those experiences he has developed quality control protocols to assure that project milestones, budget goals and performance targets are reached according to agreed client expectations and project requirements. Over the past 20 years, Mr. LaSister has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Smart, Inc. During that time, Smart, Inc. has been privileged to serve as a Prime Contractor on over two dozen separate engagements ranging from providing state-wide training and technical assistance for the State of Louisiana to assisting the Territorial Government of the Virgin Islands in the development of their first-ever Five Year Consolidated Housing, Economic Development and Community Revitalization Plan. As a Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development/Office of Public Housing Investments/Moving to Work Demonstration Program, Mr. LaSister provided senior oversight for the development of a tenant and Community Supportive Services database and related tracking system; a consolidated guidebook for

use in contract administration; and management support, risk analysis and technical assistance services to support HUD’s oversight of the National Moving to Work Demonstration program involving 30+ housing agencies from around the country. Services provided during this engagement included development of two Rental Housing Market Studies of Chicago; developing Communications Plans for stakeholders; developing policies and protocols for the delegation of program oversight responsibility; Website maintenance and enhancement; document reviews; and risk assessment and abatement. Mr. LaSister also served as Development Consultant for the Virgin Islands Housing Authority in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands. His responsibilities included developing federally funded Revitalization initiatives for the three main islands that had been compromised as a result of Hurricane Marilyn and Hugo. He coordinated the environmental testing, permitting, demolition, debris removal, scheduling, QA/QC, testing and reporting among multiple contractors on the three main Virgin Islands simultaneously. He was also responsible for interfacing with and coordinating the processing of documentation with multiple governmental agencies and regulatory authorities and designed and managed all operations to ensure cooperation and coordination among federal and local government, community development agencies, neighborhood groups, and affected persons so that the activities could proceed efficiently. As a Developer on the 141st Street Properties Residential renovation in New York City, Mr. LaSister successfully completed the renovation of 167 residential apartment units on 141st Street in New York City. The renovation project involved demolition and debris removal in a congested inner-city neighborhood and the project was constricted by very stringent New York City Codes that regulate construction activity in Manhattan. Mr. LaSister’s Real Estate Development and Property Management firm, World Urban currently provides property

management services for those properties. Mr. LaSister served as the General Counsel and the Director of Development for the Housing Authority of Camden, New Jersey. During his tenure, he was responsible for resolving over $500 million in outstanding litigation claims and the design, operations management and close-out of $400 million in capital improvement projects that had been stalled for years. Mr. LaSister also served as Project Manager for the State of New York, Department of Housing and Community Renewal, Albany, New York, where he was responsible for development of the state plan for compliance with Employment and Training requirements imposed by Section 3 of the federal Community Development Law and Presidential Executive Orders. In New Orleans Mr. LaSister was the Mayor’s Special Housing Counsel for the City of New Orleans. During that engagement, Mr. LaSister designed a New Orleans East Louisiana Multifamily Revitalization effort. He also was responsible for oversight of the Administrative Receivership of the Housing Authority of New Orleans. Mr. LaSister was also a Project Director for the State of Louisiana, HOME, Community Development Block Grant and Supportive Housing Technical Assistance Initiative during a 4-year state-wide training and technical assistance demonstration funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Over the past two years, Mr. LaSister has opened and operated an Art Gallery in New York City and a “Workstation” for the United Nations Global Assets Technology Exchange, and is current working to establish art and cultural exchanges between his hometown of Harlem and Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean. Mr. LaSister holds a Bachelor of Science, Degree in Communication Sciences and Urban Planning from Boston University, in Boston, Massachusetts and a law degree from the Antioch School of Law in Washington, DC.

Carolynn Brooks currently serves as Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer for OfficeMax. In this role, she is responsible for the strategic direction of all initiatives designed to create a diverse workforce and promote inclusive practices to achieve the company’s strategic business imperatives. Ms. Brooks has responsibility for Workforce Diversity, Supplier Diversity, EEO/AAP and Community Affairs. She is the chairperson for the OfficeMax Diversity Council and President of the OfficeMax Charitable Foundation. Ms. Brooks joined OfficeMax in 2001 in human resources. In 2006, Ms. Brooks was promoted to Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer to create a culture of inclusion and serve as a champion for change efforts related to a diverse work environment that promotes diverse perspectives and solutions

to help our customers and associates do their best work. Under her leadership, the OfficeMax Diversity Council oversees the strategic plans, metrics and accountability that embeds diversity and inclusion related initiatives at all levels within the organization. Ms. Brooks also led in the creation and launch of OfficeMax Associate Resource Groups to help OfficeMax promote broader associate understanding, appreciation of diverse experiences and perspectives, and identify solutions to workplace barriers. She also oversees OfficeMax’s community outreach to ensure that the company expands into the communities where we do business through our associate volunteer program and community outreach efforts. In 2011, Ms. Brooks was recognized by Black Enterprise as a top executive in Diversity. She

was also profiled in the Diversity Business Journal as an Executive Woman Worth Watching and was awarded the AWBC Magazine Award for her service in the community. In 2010, Ms. Brooks received National Diversity Council’s award as one of Illinois’ Most Powerful and Influential Women. In 2009, Ms. Brooks was awarded the Diversity Officer Leadership Award by Diversity Best Practices in Washington, D.C., for her innovative solutions and outstanding contributions to workplace diversity and inclusion. During his tenure, Dr. Junior developed the HBCU/MI strategic plan, issued program guidance, and managed program implementation. His duties included advocating, developing, implementing, managing, evaluating, and reporting on activities and programs that strengthen and support the capabilities of HBCU/MIs to participate in Naval science and technology research programs, STEM education programs, and contracting opportunities. Additionally, he was appointed to serve on the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Diversity Council to develop and execute the Navy’s diversity and inclusion strategic plan. As the ONR program manager for STEM education and outreach and the Navy’s recognized expert on HBCU/MIs, Dr. Junior successfully managed contracts, grants, and budgets totaling $85 million invested annually in Navy STEM education programs and the $45 million annual investment

Considered one of today’s leading experts in education for at-risk youth, Steve Mariotti changed career paths in 1982 when he decided to move from the corporate sector and become a special education teacher in the New York City school system. Mr. Mariotti’s first assignment was in the East New York section of Brooklyn, and his last was in the Fort Apache section of the South Bronx. While teaching in this hard-hitting environment for six and one half years, Mr. Mariotti gained insight into how to successfully motivate his tough students – teaching them how to run a business. His perceptions and learnings inspired him to create a program to bring entrepreneurial education to low-income youth. In 1987 the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was formed.
