Galician gastronomy on show

Beer on tap at the port Popular Oktoberfest starts in Alicante tomorrow The immensely popular Oktoberfest Espa帽a beer festival will be taking place in Alicante from tomorrow, Thursday. The festival will be installed, for the third year running, at the Volvo leisure zone in Alicante Port and will run from July 21-31. White marquees have been set up and these will house typical products and music, reminiscent of Munich's Oktoberfest. Live band Oktober Music Band will be joined by top DJs and competitions will be organised to keep everyone happy. The star of the show will, of course, be the numerous varieties of beer available at the festival! The activities will be organised every day from 12.30pm til 2am and everyone is invited to come along, join in and have a great time!

The Torrevieja Galician gastronomic exhibition will be taking place in the marquee outside Habaneras commercial centre until July 24. The event is designed to give visitors an insight into Galician food, its culture, handicrafts and customs. The centrepiece of the exhibition focuses on the region's relationship with the sea, in particular its quality seafood and octopus. Local hairdressers and beauticians will be on hand to pamper and beautify the guests totally free of charge, and there will be style advisors to help find the styles of glasses which flatter them. Just before the elections we complained to Orihuela Costa town hall about the rubbish and other unmentionables left behind after the Playa Famenca Saturday street market. Yesterday this rubbish was finally cleared up. I would hope that this is a sign from the new administration that they are finally taking notice of the people who live on the Costa, and showing us that they care about the environment we live in as well as the Orihuela inhabitants inland.
