CGLL History & 2020 Update The Beginning…
College Glen Little League was founded in 1974. Prior to that, we were part of American River Little League. In the fall of 1974, we received our charter from Williamsport, PA, home of Little League Baseball, Inc. College Glen Little League serves the area bound by Howe Avenue to the west, the American River to the north, Bradshaw Road to the east and Folsom Boulevard to the south. Under the direction of our first president, Merle Shields, we developed our complex on land belonging to the Sacramento Unified School District. On December 1, 1974, we obtained a lease on the land, which is now owned by the Sacramento City Parks and Recreation Department. Until our complex and diamonds were completed in 1975, the first of our inaugural season games were played on local school fields. The Sacramento City Parks and Recreation Department gave us permission to use the fields for Farm and Pee Wee Division play and allowed us to alter the fields for better playing conditions. A scorekeeper booth and bleachers were added to the Farm field and benches for the players were added to the Pee Wee field.
Fast Forward...
As the 2020 season gets underway, additional progress has finally been made on the new Farm Division field. Thanks to the combined efforts of CGLL, the City of Sacramento and SMUD, the light pole (down the 3rd base line that brought all construction to a halt last season) was removed in February. This was the last fixture standing in our way and now we have a clean slate to build. We are hoping to have it play ready for the 2021 season. CGLL is doing its part in Little League’s Five-Year Plan, rallied around a player-centered approach in every aspect of the program. The CGLL Board of Directors is continuing to find new and innovative fundraising opportunities to offset the cost of the metered water. Thanks to your participation in the World’s Finest Chocolate candy sales, the Homerun Derby, the Surf & Turf and Fireworks booth, we have been able to absorb the cost to date. Keep up the good work! We look forward to an amazing season of baseball and will be ready to cheer on our CGLL teams that move into the TOC and All-Star tournaments. Let’s support them and bring home the banners. The 2019 season brings some exiting new things to the league. The first phase of the family bricks has been installed! These bricks are an amazing way to seal yourself into the history and pave the way for future players of CGLL. The biggest focus for the league this year is the construction of the new Farm Division field. During the fall and winter, the Board of Directors was able to secure a new lease with the City of Sacramento, which included an additional field located behind the Major Field, where we installed fencing around the perimeter. Using the proceeds from brick and candy bar sales we will be able to construct the field for use in the very near future. 2018 was a banner year for College Glen Little League. Thanks to the help of Councilmember Eric Guerra and the City of Sacramento, we are parking on a newly designed, freshly paved and professionally constructed parking lot. Councilmember Eric Guerra was a key cog in the plan and implementation of this massive project as well as a CGLL Team Sponsor for the 2018 season. Without his efforts, this amazing upgrade would not have been possible.

2020 CGLL President “LOVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE WORLD, BUT BASEBALL IS PRETTY GOOD, TOO.” Yogi Berra Baseball is defined as a bat-and-ball game played between two opposing teams who take turns batting and fielding. But baseball is so much more, not just to the players on the field, but to the fans in the stands as well. And this doesn’t ring truer than at College Glen Little League. College Glen provides something more than other little leagues. It’s a place where new friendships are formed, hardships are overcome, laughter is shared, encouragement is given, and memories of a lifetime are made. It’s a wonderful community that teaches them how to win and lose with grace and dignity, be proud yet humble, how to work hard, but most importantly to have fun. I am so excited to enter my second season as President of College Glen. I am starting this season with immense pride of what this league provides to the 237 players that will take the field, and the countless number of family and friends that will sit in the stands, enjoying a hot dog or some nachos, cracking some seeds and cheering on some of the best baseball in the world. Whether this is your first season, or last, may it be one you will always remember.

Complex Status Lighting Systems While we have been lucky with the baseball weather leading up to the season, we know that we need the rain and that it has the potential to impact us during the season. For those of you who are new to CGLL, and as a reminder for everyone, we use a stop light color system to communicate changes to the complex based on weather and field conditions. We will post these on our website as well as Facebook as early as possible and typically by 3pm weeknight game days. Below are the three examples of the lights we use at CGLL.
GREEN LIGHT: No Restrictions YELLOW LIGHT: Restricted Use
RED LIGHT: Entire Complex is Closed
* Please note that there might be days where the complex will be open, games start, and then we have to close due to weather or field conditions changing. While we love playing baseball games, our ultimate priority is the safety of all players and volunteers in the league.
