CGLL History & 2019 Update The Beginning…
College Glen Little League was founded in 1974. Prior to that, we were part of American River Little League. In the fall of 1974, we received our charter from Williamsport, PA, home of Little League Baseball, Inc. College Glen Little League serves the area bound by Howe Avenue to the west, the American River to the north, Bradshaw Road to the east and Folsom Boulevard to the south. Under the direction of our first president, Merle Shields, we developed our complex on land belonging to the Sacramento Unified School District. On December 1, 1974, we obtained a lease on the land, which is now owned by the Sacramento City Parks and Recreation Department. Until our complex and diamonds were completed in 1975, the first of our inaugural season games were played on local school fields. The Sacramento City Parks and Recreation Department gave us permission to use the fields for Farm and Pee Wee Division play and allowed us to alter the fields for better playing conditions. A scorekeeper booth and bleachers were added to the Farm field and benches for the players were added to the Pee Wee field.
Fast Forward...
The 2019 season brings some exiting new things to the league. The first phase of the family bricks has been installed! These bricks are an amazing way to seal yourself into the history and pave the way for future players of CGLL. The biggest focus for the league this year is the construction of the new Farm Division field. During the fall and winter, the Board of Directors was able to secure a new lease with the City of Sacramento, which included an additional field located behind the Major Field, where we installed fencing around the perimeter. Using the proceeds from brick and candy bar sales we will be able to construct the field for use in the very near future. And in honor of our 45th Anniversary, we have lots of new goodies available in the snack bar including sticker decals, insulated reusable cups, and hats. Every year seems to be better than the last, and 2019 won’t be any different! 2018 was a banner year for College Glen Little League. Thanks to the help of Councilmember Eric Guerra and the City of Sacramento, we are parking on a newly designed, freshly paved and professionally constructed parking lot. Councilmember Eric Guerra was a key cog in the plan and implementation of this massive project as well as a CGLL Team Sponsor for the 2018 season. Without his efforts, this amazing upgrade would not have been possible. We continued to make big improvements to our playing fields as well. As with previous years, we reconditioned all the infields with calcine clay products and rebuilt all our pitching mounds. All the outfields were fertilized and re-seeded for the spring. We added a second iPad in the snack bar to help increase productivity and reduce wait-time. We redesigned our snack bar menus to make it easier to find what you’re looking for and added more options for you to choose from. As in years past, we continue to push the status quo, not content until we create a better, more enjoyable offering for you… its members. College Glen Little League has set the standard for quality playing fields for our children to play baseball and we will continue to do so with the strong support from our parents, volunteers and community.

2019 CGLL President “YOU DON’T NEED A TICKET TO SEE SOME OF THE BEST BASEBALL IN THE WORLD, YOU JUST NEED TO DRIVE ONE OF THE PLAYERS TO THE GAME.” Baseball is defined as a bat-and-ball game played between two opposing teams who take turns batting and fielding. But baseball is so much more, not just to the players on the field, but to the fans in the stands as well. And this doesn’t ring truer than at College Glen Little League. I have been a part of this league for 8 years as a parent, scorekeeper, volunteer, board member and most importantly a fan. I have seen so many players grow from the T-Ball field to the “big” Junior field and beyond these fences. Each year I’ve met people who were strangers in January and friends in June. Some of these people have even become like family to me. College Glen provides something more than other little leagues. It’s a place where new friendships are formed, hardships are overcome, laughter is shared, encouragement is given, and memories of a lifetime are made. It’s a wonderful community that teaches them how to win and lose with grace and dignity, be proud yet humble, how to work hard, but most importantly to have fun. I am so excited to lead this league, the 254 players that will take the field this season, and the countless number of family and friends that will sit in the stands, enjoying a hot dog or some nachos, cracking some seeds and cheering on some of the best baseball in the world. Whether this is your first season, or last, may it be one you will always remember.

From the Little League Baseball 2019 Rulebook; Official Regulations, Playing Rules, and Operating Policies The parents of millions of Little Leaguers combined with their children, league officials, umpires, managers, coaches, and countless volunteer agencies including sponsors, represent an imposing cross section of our world. Parents must take the initiative to make the local program successful and the experience meaningful for their children. Practically speaking, Little League is an adult, volunteer work project constructed, supervised and assisted by parents who want to extend this benefit to their children. Parents are essential to the local league by volunteering, raising funds, and supporting all operations within the community.
