LINKED CLASSES/LEARNING COMMUNITIES 29
LINKED CLASSES/LEARNING COMMUNITIES Linked Classes/Learning Communities are exciting new offering at SFCC. In these special classes, students enroll in two or more classes tied together as corequisites, and students must take both classes for credit. These classes allow students to complete developmental and core college-level classes more quickly, so they can take classes toward their major in less time. Some advantages of these types of classes are taking two classes with the same group of students and instructors, shared assignments, learning across disciplines, and faster completion of prerequisite courses. Two current types of Linked
Classes include: • Accelerated, Linked Classes in English or Math (such as English 109 and English 111 OR Math 100X – a combination of Math 100 and Math 101) •
Interdisciplinary Learning Community courses which pair a developmental reading class with a content course, such as Psychology 111 or pair First Year Student Success with English 107.
