Diretora Editorial Governadora do Soroptimist International Portugal (2021-2023) É com enorme satisfação, que vos comunico que esta Edição Especial da SER será exclusivamente dedicada ao centenário do movimento Soroptimist International. Esta importante organização internacional – não governamental - ONG, é composta por mulheres ativas, lutadoras e determinadas, líderes natas, de todas as idades, profissões e culturas e que acreditamos que podemos tornar o mundo num lugar melhor para outras mulheres. O caminho é composto de projetos e ações que desenvolvemos, mas necessitamos receber a atenção da mídia pelos resultados bem-sucedidos, dando a conhecer o que fazemos e até a incentivar as pessoas beneficiadas a contar as suas experiências. Pretendemos ainda, que haja uma consciencialização pública da nossa organização, fazendo com que o nome SOROPTIMIST – “O MELHOR PARA AS MULHERES” – tenha expressão na comunidade e que mais mulheres se comprometam a assumir os ideais que representa. Foi como membro fundador do Clube de Setúbal há 27 anos, que tomei a liberdade de colocar ao dispor da União Soroptimist de Portugal, a Setúbal Revista. Neste sentido, desafiei a Presidente da União de Portugal, Patrícia Moreno (2019-2021) a qual abraçou de imediato a ideia, com enorme entusiasmo, numa tentativa de sinalizar o centenário deste movimento e de promover a união de todas as mulheres soroptimistas portuguesas. Para isso, foi criada uma equipa de trabalho, a qual integrei como Diretora Editorial desta revista e presidente do Clube de Setúbal (2019-2021). Outros membros se juntaram a nós, a nossa amiga soroptimist Luisa Maria Brito e Cunha, Secretaria da União de Portugal, a Helena Monteiro de Castro, Diretora Advocacy (20192021) e a nossa amiga Teresa Carrilho, membro do Clube Sete Colinas de Lisboa. Todas estão de parabéns e merecem um sincero agradecimento pelo trabalho desenvolvido para este número especial de 2021. Obrigada equipa! Muito mais importante que os cargos ou as funções de cada uma de nós, saliento a motivação com que todos os membros se lançaram a esta árdua tarefa, que é a recolha de informação, a redação de textos, a organização, a coordenação e o planeamento. Agradeço a todos os nove clubes soroptimist portugueses e às cerca de 150 mulheres, que de uma forma ou de outra, contribuíram para os artigos e publicações que são apresentados nas páginas desta edição especial. É uma honra para mim colocar à vossa disposição esta revista, assinalando assim o Centenário do Soroptimist International.

It is my great pleasure to inform you that this special issue of SER will be exclusively dedicated to the centenary of the Soroptimist movement. This important international non- -governamental organization – ONG, is made up of active, determined, innate leaders, of all ages, professions and cultures and who believe that we can make the world better for other women. The path is made up of projects and actions that we develop, but we need to receive the media`s attention for successful results, making known what we do and even encouraging people, who are helped, to tell about their experiences. We also claim a public awareness of our organization , making the name Soroptimist – “ The Best for Women”- to have expression in society and lead more women to commit themselves to accept the ideals that it represents. As a founder member of Setúbal Club, 27 years ago, I decided to make Setúbal Revista available to the Soroptimist Union of Portugal. Bearing this in mind, I challenged the President of Portugal's Union, Patrícia Moreno (2019-2021), who immediately agreed, with enormous enthusiasm, in an attempt to signal the centenary of this movement and to promote the union of all Portuguese Soroptimist women. Thus, a work team was created, which I joined as Editorial Director of this magazine and as President of Setúbal Club (2019-2021). Other members joined us: our Soroptimist friend Luisa Maria Brito e Cunha, secretary of Portugal`s Union, Helena Monteiro de Castro, Advocacy Director and our friend Maria Teresa Maia Carrilho, member of Lisboa Sete Colinas Club. All deserve our congratulations and sincere thanks for the work done for this special issue of 2021. Thanks, team! Much more important than the positions or functions of each one of us, I must emphasize the motivation which led all members to start this difficult task, which was collecting information, writing texts, organizing, coordinating and planning. I thank all nine Portuguese clubs, with about 150 women who, anyway, contributed to the articles and publications presented on the pages of this special issue. I feel highly honoured by making this magazine available to you, thus celebrating the centenary of International Soroptimist.

Presidente da União Soroptimist Portugal (2019-2021) Começo por agradecer à Setúbal Revista – SER ter dedicado um número especial ao movimento Soroptimist International que, este ano de 2021, comemora o seu centenário. A data marca indelevelmente a história do Soroptimist em Portugal e vai, suscitar interessantes memórias. Ao longo deste ano, nos 121 países e nos seus Clubes, embora com as dificuldades e restrições a que o momento nos obriga, estão a ser feitas inúmeras atividades comemorativas das mais diversas formas possíveis, de caráter cultural, cívico, artístico e até histórico, tendo, como óbvio, o objetivo de pôr em destaque o que é o idealismo e a ética soroptimista para conhecimento, em especial, das jovens gerações. O nome Soroptimista só tem sentido se rimar com Direitos Humanos, Justiça Social, Democracia, e Liberdade, cujo objetivo é ser um movimento de mulheres que trabalham para as mulheres. Assim é no mundo e em Portugal. Este número especial da SER que aqui é apresentado procura divulgar as nossas atividades, e dar a conhecer uma resenha de projetos e ações a que o soroptimismo se propõe. As mulheres setubalenses há mais de duas décadas que integram este movimento soroptimist. A todas e todos que desde a primeira hora pelo seu trabalho e dedicação apoiaram este projeto de divulgação da SER, os meus sinceros agradecimentos em nome de todas as soroptimistas portuguesas que diariamente se dedicam a ajudar outras mulheres.

Iwill start by thanking the magazine Ser Setúbal for having considered to dedicate a special issue to the Soroptimist International movement, which, this year 2021, celebrates its centenary. This date marks, indelibly, the history of Soroptimists in Portugal and will also obviously evoke interesting memories. Over the course of this year, in 121 countries and in their clubs, despite the difficulties and restrictions that the moment requires, countless commemorative activities are being carried out in as many different ways as possible, of a cultural, civic, artistic and even historical character, aiming, of course, to highlight what the Soroptimist idealism and ethics represent for the knowledge, in special, of the younger generations. The name Soroptimist only makes sense if it supports Human Rights, Justice, Democracy and Freedom, which aims to be a movement of women working for women. This happens in Portugal and around the world. This special issue of SER, which is now published, intends to spread our activities and make known a summary of projects and actions intended by Soroptimism. Setúbal women have joined this movement for over two decades, creating the Soroptimist International Setúbal Club. To all people, who from the beginning and by their work and dedication have supported this outreach project at SER, my sincere thanks on behalf of all the Portuguese Soroptimists who, daily, have devoted to help other women.
