A YMCA Family Center will be built on property next to Viera Charter School — if fundraising efforts are successful. A plan for a Viera YMCA is envisioned on 5.04 acres in Viera, and could feature such amenities as an outdoor walk-in swimming pool, a lap pool, a 6,000-square-foot workout area and a full-sized basketball court, said Dr. Brenda Fettrow, the YMCA of Central Florida district vice president of the Lake Nona and Brevard County YMCAs. already has met with potential donors in the area. “We’re testing the waters and so far the response is positive,” said Fettrow, a former president of Eastern Florida State College’s Cocoa campus. A key first step was securing the donated use of land from The Viera Company, Fettrow said.
