First STEP orientation will take place in the University Center on the corner of Henderson Street and Normal Avenue. All new students receive their Southeast ID cards and enroll in courses during the First STEP program.

All students MUST pre-register for First STEP orientation. After registering online, you receive an online confirmation. 2011 First STEP Orientation Southeast Missouri State University has a process to help students successfully navigate the path from new student to graduating student. This process begins with First STEP orientation. We know college is an exciting and challenging time in a student’s life. The First STEP orientation program is designed to make the transition to college life easier for new students and their families. We encourage students and their families to ask lots of questions, actively participate in small group sessions, develop friendships and learn everything possible about Southeast. By participating in orientation programs, students and their families gain an understanding of the University and are better prepared for the transition to college.

1) Log on the Internet and go to: https://www.semo.edu/admissions/fs/firststep.htm Make sure you enter the Web address correctly! 2) When the page loads, enter your Southeast ID (included in your admit packet). In the second box, enter your birth MONTH and DAY. 3) Select the First STEP date you prefer. All First STEP dates are listed in this brochure. If the system will not allow you to select your first choice, select another First STEP date.

The advisors will help students select their classes for the fall semester. All incoming students are required to take the UI100: First-Year Seminar course that you will hear more about during your First STEP program. In addition, students will sign up for two zero credit, zero cost proficiency checks that involve career planning and a general education assessment.

Disability Assistance If you require special assistance, contact the Office of New Student Programs at (573) 651-5166 in ADVANCE of your First STEP. We will put you in touch with Disability Services, so you can learn more about registering for their services.
