... Get Through ...

From start to finish - Southeast Missouri State University has a plan to help students select their personal path to success— from new students to graduating seniors. Simply stated, we have the process, the resources and a results-based approach.

The Process … u First STEP Orientation - Both students and their families receive a comprehensive, personal introduction to Southeast. u UI100 - First Year Seminar - Students are introduced to the rigor of academics at Southeast and dedicated practice on the skills that define an educated human being. u University Studies - Students acquire additional knowledge through our nationally recognized, core educational program while they practice skill sets that make them successful in meeting challenging academic and career demands. u Career Proficiency Checks - A series of checkpoints are in place to help students connect their academic and career planning from the very beginning and acquire the skills and tools they need to succeed in their chosen fields.

The Resources … u TWO Advisors – Academic & Career – Our unique partnership with Missouri’s Division of Workforce Development (DWD) provides each student with two professional advisors, one for academics and one for career development. Students explore their strengths, interests and abilities, then choose a major and connect it to academic planning.

u FOCUS Assessment (CL001) – Our Web-based tool matches students’ interests and talents to career options. u Career Advisor (CL002) – Students meet with a career advisor to review FOCUS results to determine the “best fit” for a major. Students start a profile on MissouriCareerSource.com.

u Basic Job Search Strategies (CL003) – Students locate a job opening, build a basic resume and cover letter and update their profile on MissouriCareerSource.com.

u Advanced Job Search Strategies (CL004) – Students narrow their job search within their career field and write a professional resume and cover letter or follow specific guidelines expected in their academic discipline and update their profile on MissouriCareerSource.com.

u St. Louis Outreach Office – A career specialist based in St. Louis connects students, new graduates and alumni with opportunities in their selected fields.

u Internship Assistance – Career specialists prepare students to obtain their first choice internship, collaborate with faculty across campus and develop opportunities with employers.

u Resume and Cover Letter Critiques – Assistance is available for both students and alumni. u Mock Interviews – Get set with mock interviews. u Career Building/Exploration Events – Get connected at career fairs, on-campus recruiting, panel discussions, networking events and more ...
