Al has been active in the agriculture and food industry for over 30 years as a management consultant and business owner. His focus has been on best management practices of top farmers, value-add marketing strategies, communitybased rural development and leadership and rural entrepreneurship. Al has a unique global view of emerging agriculture, food industry, business and rural trends as he has lived and worked over nine years in Southeast Asia, India and Central America focusing on value-add agriculture, rural renewal and co-operative development as a project manager and consultant.

Al published, Don’t Turn Out the Lights: Entrepreneurship in Rural Saskatchewan in 2000. A second publication in 2002 was titled, Community Success Stories: Plans, Actions and Results. In 2007, he co-authored a national discussion paper for the Agricultural Institute of Canada titled, ReDefining Agriculture: Sustaining Agriculture in Canada through Innovation and Diversification. He is working on a third book titled, The Future of Agriculture. For three years, Al was profiled on AgVision TV as one of the top managers, which broadcasts across Canada and part of the US. Al is a graduate of the College of Agriculture and College of Education from the University of Saskatchewan, a member of the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists, the Canadian Consulting Agrologists Association (National President for two terms), Agricultural Institute of Canada, Canadian Association of Farm Advisors, Canadian Farm Business Management Council, the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers.
