3XR manufactures and sells AmRHEX®, a patent pending technology/machine that removes and recovers ammonia from flows where it occurs at high strength (800-3000 mgN/L) such as digester solids, dewatering liquor (filtrate), Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, or landfill leachate. Each AmRHEX® can process up to about 700 m3/d. The features which make AmRHEX® an attractive alternative for operators where ammonia (nitrogen) removal is mandated are the following: 1. Low Capital Cost. AmRHEX® equipment costs much less than biological alternatives.
2. Low energy consumption. AmRHEX® power use is about 1 kWh/kg N: this is 10% of the 10 kWh/kg N required for biological nitrogen removal (BNR).
3. Carbon Negative operation. GHG mitigation of 10 tonnes CO2 per tonne ammonia fertilizer (N) displaced by employing AmRHEX®. In addition, there is no N2O released (a GHG released by BNR that is – 300 times as potent as CO2 and may contribute up to 90 tonnes of CO2 equivalent tonne N removed by BNR). 4. Profit Center from Residuals. Recovered ammonium sulfate fertilizer value is more than double the input costs. Depending on the purchase arrangement, 3XR manages these residuals, and shares profits with the generating entity (utility).
5. Small Footprint. Each modular, prepackaged, computercontrolled, fully automated, self monitored AmRHEX® unit occupies a footprint of approximately 3 m x 11 m, about 1/ 1/ 10 to 4 that required by BNR. This is of great importance where ammonia removal is an added requirement to an existing plant, where the site is often built out and space is at a premium.
