Once again the Seattle Marathon Association is proud to present a lecture series in conjunction with our two-day EXPO. The lectures will take a round table format of speakers that will allow more questions from the audience. PResentED BY

Hypothermia (or low body temperature) can be a dangerous medical condition and thus precautions should be taken to prevent the risks of hypothermia, especially when training or racing in cold and wet conditions. This talk focuses on the risk factors, preventive strategies (in particular appropriate clothing choices), as well as early symptoms and treatment of hypothermia. Dr. Harrast is the medical director of the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon and board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and also Sports Medicine. A Clinical Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Medicine and Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, his clinical interest is overuse injuries in endurance athletes. Dr. Harrast is a competitive runner and triathlete, having run 8 marathons and 4 Ironman triathlons.

There has to be something you can eat that will give you more energy than you’ve ever had before and make it feel like you’re flying OVER the wall instead of plowing headfirst into it. It’s true! Alysun Deckert is an avid runner and a registered dietitian at the University of Washington Medical Center. She currently sits on the Advisory Committee for the University of Washington’s Certification program in Sports Medicine and Human Performance. Alysun's volunteer work includes training Team Transplant participants for the Seattle Marathon events.
