WINTER CONNECTING EVENT *

Thursday, January 26, 6:30-8pm, The Venue

This winter, we’re offering a great way for you to connect with others at Scottsdale Bible. Choose one of the 8 new topical studies listed below, and then attend this event where we’ll kick off the groups. You’ll meet others who have also chosen this topic and then choose the best time and place to meet. Dinner and childcare are provided with registration. Please register online by January 23 at scottsdalebible.com/groups. Romans, Part 1 – Tommy Nelson, 6 weeks Romans is arguably the most important book in the New Testament—it is essentially the Bible in miniature. When it’s understood, reformation and new life follow shortly. Hear Tommy Nelson unfold Paul’s logic and reasoning about the Gospel in this amazing book. Philippians, Part 1 – Matt Chandler, 6 weeks In Philippians, Paul introduces three people who were enslaved by things we often choose over the Gospel: the Business Executive, Little Slave Girl, and Hard Working Jailer. Their lives portray dysfunction and emptiness, but are totally transformed by the Gospel. True joy and Christ’s love begin to live within them, giving them a life of purpose.

Guardrails – Andy Stanley, 6 weeks They’re everywhere, but they don’t really get much attention...until someone hits one. And often, it’s a lifesaver. Ever wonder what it would be like to have guardrails in other areas of your life—areas where culture baits you to the edge of disaster and then chastises you when you cross the line? Maybe your greatest regret could’ve been avoided if you had guardrails in place. In this study, Andy Stanley challenges us to stop flirting with disaster and establish personal guardrails. Oneness Embraced – Dr. Tony Evans, 6 weeks Race relations in culture and in the church continue to be a stain on America’s reputation. The church needs to seek to function by God’s kingdom perspective. In this legacy message, Tony Evans promotes a biblical understanding of the kingdom foundation of oneness by detailing why we don’t have it, what we need to do to get it, and what it will look like when we live it. Angels and Demons – Dr. R.C. Sproul, 8 weeks Angels and demons are portrayed everywhere. But are they understood correctly? With all the attention they get, Christians are bound to confuse what is often considered “common knowledge” and how the Word of God actually portrays them. In this study, Dr. R.C. Sproul challenges many of their modern myths with a biblical view of the spiritual realm. Fearless – Max Lucado, 6 weeks Imagine your life wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could remove from your mind every shred of dread, insecurity and doubt, what would remain? Envision a day where you could trust more and fear less. In this study, Max Lucado offers sage advice on defeating the fear that confronts us daily. Go Fish – Andy Stanley, 6 weeks We’ve all heard fishing stories: “It was this big!” “You should’ve seen the one that got away!” People love to tell stories of their fishing adventures, but when it comes to faith, most people clam up. Why is it that we can’t talk about what God has done in our lives as naturally as we tell our fishing tales? Come explore the motivation behind sharing your faith and how it can become a natural part of your life. David: Seeking a Heart Like His – Beth Moore, 11 weeks (women only) In this analysis of the “man after God’s own heart,” David will delight and disappoint you. You’ll want to be like him at times and nothing like him at others. If you’ve ever experienced doubts, temptations, losses or family problems, this study is for you!

The Book of Revelation * Teacher: Cathy Wilson

On this journey to study the 22 chapters of Revelation, we will come face to face with Jesus! The Greek word for revelation (apokalypsis) means “a revealing, an unveiling, a disclosing, an uncovering.” What is often considered the most difficult book in Scripture unveils Jesus. Join us as we grasp the full scope of God’s Word in the revelation of His Son. Finding Freedom *

Teacher: Deb Pirtle

God has an incredible purpose for us in this life, but it’s easy to become weighed down with cares, past hurts, and areas of sin that keep us in bondage and away from His purposes. These hindrances steal our intimacy with Christ and the joy of our salvation. This study is about becoming more like Jesus and reflecting His love and power to those around us. Life Lessons: The Gospel of John *

Teachers: Pencie Culiver and Eva Williams

Without the apostle John, we would have been left to wonder about the hands-on Jesus. But through John’s eyes and pen, we are privileged to witness the ministry of the Savior. Through Max Lucado’s book, we’ll learn of John’s gift to us—a record of tender moments and heaven-powered miracles, and a manual on how to live abundantly. Embracing God's Truth About Me * Teacher: Nonie Maupin

The way we perceive ourselves, God, others and the world guides our thoughts and actions. And sometimes, that’s not good. In this study, we’ll learn to embrace the truth about who we are in Christ and examine ourselves in light of that truth. Come join this group of women who are seeking a head-to-heart transformation.

Jeremiah, God’s Prophet * Teacher: Joan Lazear

Many have called Jeremiah the “weeping prophet.” However, the book of Jeremiah shows us his toughness, as he was a determined, dedicated, long-suffering and visionary prophet who will encourage all of us as we face life’s challenges. Rather than the “weeping prophet,” he is the “persevering prophet,” who we too can be when we face adversity. Nehemiah: Rebuilding, Revival & Restoration of the People of God (Precept) * Teacher: Mele Simonson

How do you respond when the Enemy tries to interfere with God’s clear direction? What do you do when you face opposition? The book of Nehemiah gives us the answer. In this class, you will learn a powerful way to study and understand the Bible yourself! Living Free: Learning to Pray God’s Word (by Beth Moore) * Teachers: Shela-Lyn Boxberger and Lyn Arnold

Join us for a personal daily Bible study experience. Beth explores the somewhat radical idea that we cannot please God by being perfect. The study begins by defining false strongholds, then focuses on five key benefits for every believer. Learn how to develop a Godward focus in life, while beginning to incorporate the key benefits in your life through practices of prayer and Bible study.

TUESDAY EVENINGS

Full of twists and turns, ruin and redemption, revelation and mystery, this Bible study keeps participants captivated by the God who stars in it! Explore concepts such as blessing, covenant and promise, and the bearing each has on a New Testament believer’s life today. Join us as we plunge into the heart of Genesis. Finding Freedom *

Teacher: Jody Johnston, Shea A2

God has an incredible purpose for us in this life, but it’s easy to become weighed down with cares, past hurts, and areas of sin that keep us in bondage and away from His purposes. Wednesdays, January 25–April 5, 9:30-11:30am, Family Life Building Teacher: Brooke Hellestrae

Do your Monday mornings reflect your Sunday worship? Is your life full of noticeable changes and actions? James, the half-brother of Jesus, wasn’t impressed with talk. He knew that a life of faith was about action that showed a difference. The book of James boldly deals with issues of faith not bound by culture or place. It shows us the importance of living a genuine life of faith. Childcare is provided with registration. This study written by John Eldredge teaches us that Jesus wants us to become His disciples through knowing how to pray. Prayer is not just asking God to do something, but also partnering with Him to get things done.
