DEALER NEWS NADA Issues 2021 Second Quarter Auto Sales Analysis Volvo Cars Expands U.S. Electrified Vehicle Production in South Carolina
When it came to thinking about the future of family transportation, Chrysler called upon the people who will own and live with such a vehicle – millennials working inside the company’s design and engineering functions – to collaborate on ideas. Armed with research on what the millennial generation values and desires, the team created a forward-thinking interpretation of the “fifth generation” of family transportation – the Chrysler Portal concept, created by millennials for millennials. Millennials are tech savvy,
environmentally aware and cost conscious. To balance those needs and to be an integral part of millennials’ lives, the Chrysler Portal concept is designed to maximize interior space with an impressive degree of flexibility between seating and cargo configurations; to enable users to include and expand their social media communities with seamless wireless integration between the vehicle and mobile devices; to take advantage of technologic advances in battery-electric

While the cockpit is a key focal point, the low positioning of the instrument panel relative to the vehicle occupants and other measures are used to express a refreshing minimalism.
Premium seating is standard for all occupants with thin-design seats that fold flat, fold up and slide fore/aft on a track system for ultimate flexibility. The seats mount to tracks embedded in the floor. This enables the seats to move the full length of the vehicle and, if needed, to be removed easily from the rear of the vehicle.
Portal From Front Cover powertrains and the growth of a rapid recharging network; and to deliver these capabilities in a powerful, high-tech form that uses LED lighting as a key design element, and not as a mere accent. Millennials in the millions FCA US has been studying the millennial generation for more than 20 years, using ethnographic research to gain insight into current and emerging wants and needs. Millennials have become the largest demographic. In the next 10-plus years, most will be at a point in their life where they will begin to start or will have started a family; 75 percent of all children will have a millennial parent and there will be 4 million more children than today. The millennial generation is defined as people born between 1982 – 2001. The four modes of family 4

transportation have been defined as station wagons, minivans, SUVs and crossovers; millennials will seek their own version of a family vehicle. Based on internal research, they will want a vehicle that is reflective of their personality, offers value and flexibility, integrates advanced technology and is socially responsible. Millennials are seeking practical and functional products that provide both capability and a sense of personal style. They also need affordability and look to own vehicles long term. As a result, they want a vehicle that can be upgraded as their lives change, and they expect seamless integration of technology in and out of the vehicle, including to home and other devices. While millennials are a broad group of consumers at varying life stages, the Chrysler Portal concept is designed and engineered with all life stages and lifestyles in mind, August 2021
including active/adventure, single, married/partnered, those with newborns and older children. The Chrysler Portal concept explores the possibility of what a family transportation vehicle could look like for the millennial generation as their lifestyles evolve. The flexibility, adaptability and technology features also make it ideal for business and commercial applications, such as ride hailing, car sharing and delivery services. Designed from the inside, Chrysler Portal concept creates third space Designed from the inside out, the interior of the Chrysler Portal concept offers the driver and passengers a “third space” – an open and serene atmosphere that provides an alternative environment between work and home. Spacious and modern, the interior features soft, clean, sculptural lines that are colored in a mix www.IneedOEMparts.com
of neutral and grey hues accented by jewel tones; the interior space takes advantage of a tasteful and elegant mix of textures and materials. Battery-electric vehicle technology contributes to cabin spaciousness with a minimized engine compartment and a low, flat-load floor atop the battery pack that is ideal for transporting people and equipment for an active lifestyle. Exterior design centers around Portal doors The Chrysler Portal concept takes a new perspective with a clean, simple yet strong design statement amplified by refined lines along the body and a strong, planted stance. Featuring a mono-volume form that “shrink wraps” the batteryelectric vehicle (BEV) powertrain and interior packaging, the Portal’s exterior design is anchored by illuminated, portal-shaped side openings with articulating front and rear doors for easy loading and unloading of www.IneedOEMparts.com
people and cargo. The lighting on the Chrysler Portal concept is an interactive experience, as well as a communication tool. The vehicle is equipped with fullcolor, changing LED lighting on the front, side portals and rear. Not only can the light take on different colors, it can have a swiping or animated appearance. Interactive ground projection and portal lighting are available in infinite colors that can be tailored for personal, business or drive settings, such as when the vehicle is parked, locked/unlocked or in autonomous mode. Engineered for future developments An all-electric vehicle, the Chrysler Portal concept is propelled by a single electric motor driving the front wheels. A lithium-ion battery pack, rated at around 100 kWh, is integrated into the vehicle underbody, which increases structural rigidity and provides a low center of gravity, which enhances handling and ride comfort. The Chrysler Portal concept is estimated to have more than 250 miles of range on a full charge. Adaptable user experience anticipates needs There are more than 20 available technologies designed to engage, inform and connect the driver and passengers. The Chrysler Portal August 2021
concept provides an adaptable and upgradeable user experience that anticipates the needs and can evolve with lifestyle changes and technology advancements. Infotainment, sensor and software systems are designed to provide a seamless user experience, including these key features: • Facial recognition and voice biometrics recognize the user and are able to customize individual or family settings to provide a unique drive experience based on preferred features, such as exterior and interior lighting, favorite music, enhanced audio settings, favored destinations and more • Vehicle-to-X (V2X) communication enables the vehicle and infrastructure to "talk" to each other, such as intersection crash warning, traffic sign recognition and emergency vehicle approaching • Personal Zoned Audio keeps the driver aware of surroundings by enhancing sound and directionality in the event of approaching emergency vehicles • Seamless vehicle integration of personal devices, such as phones, tablets, cameras and wearables • Community sharing enables passengers to share music, images, videos and more with other passengersn Southern Automotive Journal

Caliber Raising Funds for Heart Disease and Stroke Research Caliber, the parent company of Caliber Collision, Caliber Auto Care and Caliber Auto Glass, is launching a new campaign to raise funds to support the American Heart Association's life-saving heart disease and stroke research. Beginning July 1 and running through July 31, teammates, customers and community members can donate to this effort in any of Caliber's 1,300-plus centers across the country and online at RYHeartHealth.com. This initiative is part of Caliber's Restoring You program, which supports community causes aligning with the company's purpose of Restoring the Rhythm of Your Life®. "The mission of the American Heart Association deeply resonates with Caliber teammates and families
as many have been impacted by heart disease and stroke," said President and CEO of Caliber, Mark Sanders. "I'm proud of our teammates for living our purpose of Restoring the Rhythm of Your Life® daily and raising funds and awareness of this initiative." Since 2016, Caliber donations to the AHA have totaled more than $4 million in an ongoing effort to support their mission. Additionally, Caliber and the AHA's partnership extends to training Caliber's 20,000plus teammates in hands-only CPR, a practice saving lives in their local communities. According to the American Heart Association, 126.9 million American adults experienced cardiovascular disease between 2015 and 2018. Additionally, about 127,176
Americans suffered from non-traumatic cardiac arrests in 2020. In these instances, the bystander CPR intervention rate was 40.2%, highlighting the importance of community CPR awareness and training in saving lives. "Join us in our goal of creating a world free of heart disease and stroke; we invite all community members to visit our centers, make a donation, fill out a heart and share why they support the AHA mission. We are also collecting donations online for convenience," said Sanders. To learn more about Caliber's partnership with the American Heart Association or to donate, visit RYHeartHealth.com. All donations made to the campaign, as part of the Caliber Foundation, are taxdeductible.n

Recycled Rides is a unique community action initiative through which members of the NABC™ and others in the auto body repair industry unite with local nonprofit organizations to provide deserving individuals and families with the gift of a fully restored vehicle. Service King has consistently donated vehicles through the Recycled Rides program for more than 10 years. For this donation, Travelers® Auto Insurance provided the car that Service King repaired. Manville, an Air Force Veteran, was nominated by Colorado Veterans Project, a nonprofit organization that hosts special events in order to raise awareness and funds for local Veterans and Veteran organizations. mobility issues and arthritis that affect his employment. Diagnosed with PTSD from his time serving and type 2 diabetes, Manville has biweekly doctor appointments. For the past two months, he has been renting a car weekly to get back and forth to his chiropractic and doctor appointments at the VA. Service King's donation will provide increased independence and financial stability for Manville. "Our team is honored and excited to prepare this vehicle for Air Force Veteran Roy Manville," said Director of Operations Andy Haydusky. "Our company is dedicated to supporting our nation's heroes, and we strive to show continuous support through current and future initiatives like this. Participating in the Recycled Rides program allows us to see firsthand how we can make a difference in someone's life through collision repair. We are thrilled for Roy to gain reliable transportation and increased independence to support his medical needs
through this donation." This is the third vehicle that Service King has joined hands with the NABC™ to restore this year, with additional donations planned for the remainder of 2021. NADA Issues 2021 Second Quarter Auto Sales Analysis NADA issued its analysis of U.S. auto sales and the economy following the second quarter of 2021. In the second quarter of 2021, sales totaled a 17.0 million unit SAAR, up slightly from the 16.9 million unit SAAR in the first quarter of 2021. “The increased SAAR in Q2 was due in part to incredibly high sales in April 2021, which had a SAAR of 18.8 million units, the fourth highest monthly total since the year 2000,” said NADA chief economist Patrick Manzi. “I suspect that if inventory was not constrained, we could have seen an even higher level of sales.” Through the second quarter, light-trucks, including crossovers and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), represented 76.9% of all new vehicles sold and the segment is expected to continue to move towards an 80% market share. Pickups accounted for 17.6% of sales for the first half of 2021, down from 20.0% compared to the first half of 2020; crossovers represented 45.9% of sales, up from 41.8% one year ago. Inventory, due primarily to a global microchip shortage, remains a major factor in all facets of the auto retail industry. As of June 28, 2021, 4.6 million vehicles have not been produced globally as a result of the chip shortage and an additional 1.2 million losses are projected for a total
of 5.8 million vehicles not produced, according to Auto Forecast Solutions. In North America alone, 1.5 million vehicle losses have been announced with an additional 300,000 projected for a total of 1.8 million units. As a result, inventory levels were just over 1.5 million units at the end of May, which translates to 25 days of supply, down from 2.6 million units and a more normal 61 days of supply at the end of May 2020. According to Wards Intelligence, inventory at the end of June was depleted further and fell to 1.4 million units. By the end of the July, inventory is expected to fall an additional 7% to 1.3 million units. “Inventory is likely to be tight into 2022 as manufacturers continue to deal with the impact of the chip shortage for the remainder of the year,” said Manzi. “Even if there is enough production to satiate current retail demand, there are still plenty of fleet customers looking for inventory whose needs will need to be met before manufacturers can begin to restock dealer lots to more normal levels closer to three million units.” In light of strong demand a short supply of vehicle inventory, new-vehicle average transaction prices reached record highs at the end of second quarter with many vehicles selling at MSRP or higher. In June 2021, the new-
vehicle average transaction price is expected to reach a record high of $40,206, according to J.D. Power. High trade-in values and low interest rates have helped consumers with the new-vehicle price increases and have kept average monthly payments from rising greatly. In May 2021, the average monthly payment for a new vehicle finance contract was $598 compared to $576 in May 2020. Manufacturer incentives on new vehicles remain limited. According to J.D. Power, average incentive spending per unit in June 2021 was $2,492 per unit, a decrease of $1,857 and $1,474 in June 2020 and June 2019, respectively. June 2021’s average incentive spending was the second lowest on record for the month of June. At the macro level, Real GDP in the second quarter of 2021 is expected to grow by 8.6% on an annualized basis. The U.S. economy is expected to return to its pre-COVID level of real GDP of around $19.2 trillion by the time final data is collected. For all of 2021, real GDP is expected to increase by around 7%. Initial jobless claims continue to fall each week and are headed toward pre-pandemic levels; however, approximately 14.7 million Americans NADA Please Turn to Page 18

Chevrolet debut the full lineup of its all-new 2020 Silverado HD — the strongest, most capable Silverado HD ever. We added class-leading towing technologies, such as 15 available camera views, to make trailering more convenient, whether pulling a large cargo trailer or fifth-wheel camper. And we made a host of changes to make tasks easier.” Built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, the Silverado HD is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor with a wheelbase that’s been stretched 5.2 inches on Crew Cab models and is scaled for HD customers. That’s an 11 percent increase in horsepower and a 22 percent increase in peak torque, respectively, resulting in 18 percent more towing capability. Then there’s the legendary Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V-8 engine making 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque coupled with an all-new Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission. This greater capability is driven by chassis and suspension enhancements and new propulsion combinations that work seamlessly to offer confident performance with great durability, particularly when towing. State Farm®, Ford Come Together to Improve The Safety and Overall Cost of Vehicle Ownership As vehicle technology and safety systems continue to evolve, State Farm and Ford are working together for the benefit of their shared customers. State Farm and Ford completed a yearlong pilot project in which the companies shared vehicle build data to better understand how certain safety features impact claims. The exchange of information lowered the overall cost of vehicle ownership for many of the companies’ shared customers by better matching price to risk. Insurance rate adjustments were made in the first half of 2021, with savings of up to 20%. Ford's new Vehicle Build Data product provides State Farm a comprehensive view of a vehicle's feature content and a better understanding of how advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) impact the frequency and severity of auto claims. State Farm is also sharing claims data with Ford to help inform them on how specific vehicle features impact auto claims. As the pilot expands, State Farm customers with certain Ford, Lincoln or Mercury products dating back to 2010 can benefit from this data shar-

At franchised new-car dealerships, employment has improved; at the end of May 2021, franchised dealership employment was 1.08 million workers. INFINITI Q60 From Page 8 port the driver without interruption, the Q60 uses Adaptive Shift Control to hold gears long around corners or hills. When the road turns even more interesting, Sport mode dials up the transmission's shift patterns to hold gears for longer. In the Q60 LUXE and PURE trims, the powertrain duo delivers 300 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque across nearly the entire rev range, from 1,600-5,200 rpm. The engine is among the most advanced developed by INFINITI; lightweight aluminum construction, high-pressure direct injection, and integrated exhaust manifolds help the engine produce power on-demand with competitive fuel economy returns. The performance pinnacle, the Q60 RED SPORT 400, spins the twin turbochargers up to 240,000 rpm to extract up to 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque from the VR-series 3.0-liter V-6. throttle response and increased fuel economy. All models feature standard Rack Electronic Power Steering that's linear and confident, which can be configured through the Drive Mode Selector included on every Q60 coupe. Available on RED SPORT 400 is INFINITI's Direct Adaptive Steering® that transmits the driver's inputs to the wheels faster than a mechanical linkage system and can reduce the number of inputs required by the driver and help to reduce fatigue on longdistance drives. When equipped, the August 2021
Direct Adaptive Steering® system can be configured in Personal, Standard, Snow, Eco, Sport, and in RED SPORT 400 models, Sport+. Two suspension systems offered on the Q60 give drivers flexibility and confidence to drive to their specifications. Standard on all Q60 models is a four-wheel independent suspension system with front aluminum double wishbones and a rear multi-link configuration. Dual flow path shocks are used at all four wheels, and 26.5-mm front and 20-mm rear stabilizer bars provide confidence while cornering. www.IneedOEMparts.com
Exclusive to RED SPORT 400 models is a Dynamic Digital Suspension that delivers enhanced ride comfort and agility thanks to adaptive dampers that continuously adjusts to provide ideal performance. Two driveline options are available for the INFINITI Q60. Rear-wheel drive is standard on all grades of the Q60, and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive is available for every grade. When equipped, the system offers enhanced road-holding and grip for all-weather confidence and can distribute up to 50% of available torque to the front wheels. When not needed, the system reverts to 100% power toward the rear wheels for better efficiency and a sporty feeling behind the wheel. The 2021 INFINITI Q60's dynamic shape and powerful stance underscore its strength and agility but doesn't sacrifice its grace and elegance. The long hood of the Q60 gives it an athletic profile and striking silhouette and emphasizes its front-engine,
rear-drive, sports-coupe attitude. The muscular body lines are taut and flowing, stretching across the Q60's body. INFINITI's signature design cues are visible on the coupe: the doublearch grille, crescent-shaped C-pillars, human-eye shaped headlights. Dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers punctuate the Q60's performance from the rear. Standard on the Q60 is 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, while Q60 RED SPORT 400 models feature 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, which are staggered in width on reardrive models. A sleek shape cuts a smaller hole in the wind, too. The Q60's drag coefficient of 0.28 is low, and zero front and rear lift aerodynamics help keep the car stable during spirited drives. Inside, the tailored interior is fitted to the driver and coddles passengers. The supportive, high-back seats are ergonomic and all-day comfortable with bolsters to keep driver and
passenger in place while cornering on twisty roads. All Q60s feature advanced Active Noise Cancellation that can hush noise inside the cabin with phase-shifting technology to identify and quiet potentially harsh frequencies. Large dual touch-screen displays (8-inch upper, 7-inch lower) put vehicle and infotainment functions easily at hand to the driver and front passenger. The Q60 RED SPORT 400 returns with thrilling performance from its high-output V-6 that can produce up to 400 horsepower, 20-inch wheels, uprated sport brakes with red calipers, Dynamic Digital Suspension, and exclusive matte black carbon fiber exterior trim accents. A ProACTIVE package for 2021 offers Direct Adaptive Steering, Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control, Adaptive Lighting with High Beam Assist, and more.n

Hiring Bonuses Show Real Potential to Bring Back America’s Workers Hiring bonuses are an effective instrument to encourage more unemployed, Americans to return to work, new polling data released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce shows. The survey results reveal some of the most impactful and immediate solutions employers and elected officials can deploy in helping address the country’s deepening worker shortage crisis. Nearly four in 10 (39%) unemployed Americans who lost their jobs during the pandemic and are not actively looking for work say that a $1,000 hiring bonus would increase their urgency to return to full-time employment—the most commonly cited response. Other incentives or developments that would encourage unemployed Americans to re-enter the workforce include work-fromhome flexibility (32%) and worker vaccination requirements (23%) The percentage who say hiring bonuses could attract them back to the job market was particularly high among unemployed workers age 25-34 (53%) and those with some college education but not a degree (49%). The share was also relatively high among unemployed Americans in West (45%) and Midwest (44%) regions of the country. “One of several important and immediate steps governors can take in encouraging unemployed, hesitant-to-return Americans to rejoin the workforce is investing federal relief funds in hiring incentive programs like return-to-work bonuses,” said Neil Bradley, executive vice president and chief policy officer, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Too many businesses and communities across the nation continue to suffer amid the growing worker shortage. We are calling on every governor to take immediate action to help bring more Americans back into the workforce.” Recently, ten states—Arizona, www.IneedOEMparts.com

Six of these states have Democratic governors, while four have Republican governors. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has commended those actions and encouraged more governors to consider using American Rescue Plan Act resources to help fund return-to-work bonuses. Several other states are currently considering taking similar measures. This polling follows U.S. Chamber analysis of federal employment data that show a steadily worsening workforce crisis. The latest U.S. Chamber’s Workforce Availability Ratio showed that there are now half as many available workers for every open job (1.4 available workers/opening) across the country as there have been on average over the past two decades (2.8 historical average). In total, there were more than 9.3 million job openings available at the end of April—a record high and a staggering 1-million-openAugust 2021
ings increase from March. "America’s great economic resurgence is being held back by an unprecedented workforce shortage— and it’s getting worse,” Bradley said. “We are seeing an increasing number of businesses turning down work and only partially reopening because they can’t find enough workers.” The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation recently launched America Works, a nationwide initiative mobilizing industry and government to swiftly address America’s deepening worker shortage crisis. Discover workforce solutions, find additional research and analysis, and explore the full America Works policy agenda at uschamber.com/work. Additionally, estimators can easily access service and collision repair information bulletins associated with a repair operation directly from Toyota's Technical Information System (TIS). Clicking a link at the line-item level of the estimate eliminates the appraiser's need to reference multiple sources and can improve cycle time. "Mitchell and Toyota have a long history of working together to support collision repairers and the safe return of vehicle owners to the road," said Jack Rozint, Senior Vice President of Repair Sales at Mitchell. "By providing real-time access to Toyota recall and vehicle data, we can help ensure that this information gets into the hands of those who need it most."n
and incorporate it into their blueprinting process. With the addition of Toyota, Mitchell now provides recall data in Mitchell Cloud Estimating for multiple OEMs. "Through our collaboration with Mitchell, collision repairers have quick and timely access to important recall notifications which they can use to alert consumers," said Jason Kistner, Senior Manager of Toyota Motor North America. "Our hope is that this collaboration can help lead to increased recall completions meant to improve safety for Toyota owners." Mitchell's close collaboration with Toyota began in 2015 with the launch of Toyota Recommended Repair Procedures. Also available in Mitchell Cloud Estimating, this OEM repair process automatically surfaces a pre-configured list of all Toyota parts and labor operations

Mitchell, a leading provider of technology, connectivity and information solutions to the Property & Casualty (P&C) claims and Collision Repair industries, today announced that Mitchell Cloud Estimating now surfaces VIN-specific recall notices on Toyota vehicles. This gives collision repairers timely access to safety recall information as the estimate is written, helping to improve safety recall completions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently reported that safety recalls affected more than 53 million vehicles and items of motor vehicle equipment in the US. To help ensure this data is easily accessible to collision repairers, Mitchell Cloud Estimating alerts users to active safety and emissions recalls from Toyota. U.S. and Canadian repairers can then share this important information with vehicle owners

The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle Model (left) (left) and 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Limited with the S Appearance Package (right) (right)
The new 2021 Chrysler Pacifica offers the most advanced AWD system in its class and is the only vehicle to offer AWD along with Stow ‘n Go seating. The seamless, fully automatic AWD system is the only vehicle in the segment capable of transferring all available engine torque to the rear wheels, or whichever wheels have more available traction. The Pacifica AWD system is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a class-exclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency and reduces emissions. The Chrysler Pacifica also offer 97 standard safety features – the most standard safety features in the industry. New LED lights and Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking (PAEB) – both offered for the first time in the class as standard equipment – join Blind-spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Full 30 Southern Automotive Journal
Stop, electronic stability control (ESC), Forward Collision Warning with Full Stop, Lane Departure Warning, eight airbags and more as standard safety features. All told, the Pacifica features 116 standard and available safety and security features. The Pacifica’s new exterior design expression is much more deeply sculpted, athletic and modern in character, with utility-vehicle-inspired design cues. A new top-of-the-line Pinnacle model sets a new standard in the segment with a sophisticated, luxurious interior that incorporates a new integrated Ultra console — the most functional center console in its class — and elite appointments, such as quilted Nappa Caramel leather seats with new matching lumbar comfort pillows. The all-new Uconnect 5 system, offered for the first time in a North American vehicle and standard across the Pacifica lineup, includes a largestin-class 10.1-inch touchscreen, which August 2021
is nearly 20 percent larger than the screen it replaces. The system is five times faster than Uconnect 4 and includes Alexa. With the Uconnect skill for Alexa, customers with Alexaenabled devices at home can easily ask Alexa to start the car, lock/ unlock doors and more. Uconnect 5 brings Amazon Alexa directly into the vehicle itself, giving occupants the freedom to interact with Alexa just as they do at home or on a personal device. The new Chrysler Pacifica also gives parents a bird’s-eye view of their most precious cargo thanks to the new FamCAM interior camera that delivers a best-in-class high-definition image and allows the driver a view of rear-facing child seat occupants in the second row and even allows them to zoom in on passengers. Another first for the segment. Pacifica's seamless, fully autoPacifica Please Turn To Page 36 www.IneedOEMparts.com

A higher seating position complements the truck’s taller profile to offer a confident view from behind the wheel with an available, head-up display, something the competition does not offer. Additional optimized ergonomics emphasize easy, intuitive interaction with the vehicle’s technologies, such as the new trailering and infotainment system. Silverado HD from Page 14 ing capability, the upgraded driveline includes new, larger, more robust front and rear axles, a standard 11.5-inch ring gear on 2500HD models, and a massive 12-inch ring gear on 3500HD diesel models. Also, 30-percent larger-diameter prop shafts provide greater strength with the high torque output of the new 6.6L gas engine and the Duramax Turbo-Diesel. Helping cool the Duramax engine is a massive 28-inch diameter fan with variable fan speed – 2.5-inches larger than the current fan. That greater towing capability is matched with Chevrolet’s new suite of customer-focused trailering technologies, including a new transparent trailer feature, designed to help improve the 32 Southern Automotive Journal
experience with visibility, easier hitching and more driving confidence when towing a trailer. More than 90 percent of heavyduty truck owners use their truck for trailering, making it one of the most important considerations for customers, with safety, confidence and visibility their top concerns when towing. The Silverado HD delivers with an Advanced Trailering System designed to make every aspect of towing easier and more convenient. The Silverado HD offers up to 15 unique camera views, including HD Surround Vision, Bed View, an industryfirst transparent trailer view, and an accessory camera. The transparent trailer view helps with visibility through the trailer as if the trailer was not there proAugust 2021
viding added confidence when towing. The transparent trailer helps with navigating parking lots, merging into traffic or when making tight turns. It uses two cameras — one tailgate-mounted camera and an available accessory camera (installation required) mounted on the rear of the trailer — to provide a wide display that helps the driver to virtually see through and alongside the trailer. New Allison® 10-speed transmission matched with proven Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel “The 6.6L Duramax diesel and Allison® transmission is a legendary combination in the HD truck market with proven durability and capability. Maximum power and towing capability in new Silverado HD lineup comes from the proven Duramax www.IneedOEMparts.com
6.6L Turbo-Diesel V-8 with 910 lb-ft of torque. Its towing capability is increased up to 52 percent with driveline improvements including the addition of the all-new Allison® 10L1000 10-speed automatic transmission — a legendary Duramax/Allison® combination that contributes to the Silverado HD’s 35,500-pound max towing rating when properly equipped. A diesel after-run feature specifically for use following a demanding towing situation is an additional new technology for the Duramax engine. The after-run allows the engine to keep running for up to 15 minutes to allow it to cool down using the fan and circulating coolant. If the driver puts the truck in park when an after-run situation is needed, an alert will appear on the driver information cluster directing them to keep the engine running for cool down. Should the customer ignore the message and exit the vehicle, the truck will restart on its own via remote start mode for cool-down. At that point the customer can walk away and the truck will turn itself off when the engine reaches an acceptable temperature. The all-new Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission combined with improved driveline components is bet-
ter at transferring all of the Duramax’s torque to the pavement, allowing more torque to be put to the ground in lower gears, enhancing the overall driving dynamics and trailering with smoother gear changes and shorter steps between them. It also supports smart engine braking, which can help reduce brake wear. The Duramax/ Allison® combination’s standard axle ratio is lowered to 3.42:1, which reduces engine speed, therefore enhancing refinement. For the job site, an all-new, factory-integrated engine-driven Power Take Off (PTO) is available and eliminates the need for an aftermarket unit. Exclusively offered with the Allison® 10-speed transmission on select diesel models, it’s the first fully integrated PTO system of its kind in the HD truck segment, with the PTO’s drive gear operated via chain to direct engine power. And because it is engine-driven rather than turbine-driven, owners can use the PTO while the vehicle is idling. A button inside the cab enables the PTO, and a mode selector allows adjustment of load and torque output. In addition to the Silverado HD’s larger dimensions and distinctive trim personalities, 2500 and 3500 SRW
models are available with active aero shutters for improved efficiency and a taller, more dominant hood line that asserts the trucks’ strength and character. Diesel models also have a larger, more prominent hood scoop, contributing to a more robust cooling system for the increased towing demands. Inside, the Silverado HD offers a roomier, spacious, work-focused cabin with class-leading front head- and legroom, plus nearly 3 inches of additional rear-leg room in Crew Cab models while offering more innovative storage options. A higher seating position complements the truck’s taller profile to offer a confident view from behind the wheel with an available, head-up display, something the competition does not offer9. Additional optimized ergonomics emphasize easy, intuitive interaction with the vehicle’s technologies, such as the new trailering and infotainment system, and the available capability of supporting SiriusXM’s next-generation user experience, 360L. The lineup includes 2500HD and 3500HD Regular, Double Cab and Crew Cab models offered with standard length and long cargo boxes, as well as two chassis cab lengths.n

Automotive Repair Professionals: Live Events Are Back & So is CARS! On Nov. 1 in Las Vegas, ASA National is hosting the Congress of Automotive Repair & Service (CARS) Executive Outlook, a popular live industry event that will also exclusively feature the 7th Annual Technology & Telematics Forum (TTF). The one-day CARS Executive Outlook – The Road Ahead event is designed specifically for mechanical repair shop owners and their managers. ASA will also be running a parallel program co-located with the MSO Symposium for the collision industry at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. “We’re doing this by kicking off the CARS Executive Outlook in Las Vegas! We’re thankful that technology was there during the pandemic, but we wanted to get back to the opportunities that live networking events provide. Like everyone else earlier this year, we wanted to be cautious as the country got vaccinated. We finalized
the virtual ASAX50 event we held with our affiliates in late spring, and then decided to move ahead and plan this great upcoming event, which is our first step towards the return of CARS with the CARS Executive Outlook - the Road Ahead! “ASA is excited to partner once again with the Alliance for Automotive Innovation for the 2021 TTF program titled, A Changing Fleet,” said Bob Redding, ASA Washington, D.C., Representative. “This year’s program will focus on the transportation sector’s transition to an electrified future and the implications for independent automotive repair shops. The forum will feature a diverse group of speakers and topics throughout the day, each carefully curated to bring the best and most up-to-date information about electric vehicles, the climate crisis and new vehicle technologies entering the market. Attendees will have the
opportunity to listen and learn from the panelists, as well as to interact, ask questions, and network.” At the CARS event, TTF attendees will be able to hear the latest information and interact with industry experts as they discuss the most important issues impacting the automotive service industry in the years ahead - electrification and where auto manufacturers are going. Topics at TTF will include new car technologies, electric vehicles, smart purchases, manufacturers’ focus on the state of climate change and clean energy. The afternoon segment of CARS Executive Outlook will include industry trends, opportunities for facilities to expand and grow market share, analytics and solutions to talent shortages and much more. Are you ready for what’s next? CARS will help prepare you for the future!n

The Pacifica AWD system, the most capable AWD in the class, is also able to sense and stop the drive shaft from spinning when AWD is not required, a classexclusive feature in the segment that improves efficiency and reduces emissions. The AWD system also employs a brake-lock differential system to help enhance traction, with fully automatic torque distribution between each wheel. If one wheel on an axle loses traction, the system applies the brake to the low-traction wheel, redirecting torque through the differential to the wheel with more traction. The 18-inch brake package for AWD features larger vented front and solid rear rotors and calipers with more capacity. The next expression of the Chrysler Pacifica has arrived, with an inspired refresh standard across the model lineup. The Pacifica features a bold, deeply sculpted face and sophisticated styling that does more with less to celebrate the entire width of the rear, resulting in an unmistakable visual jump from the current model. The modern face is sculpted to create a more dominant upper grille.

Service King Celebrates 45-Year Legacy by Unveiling Vision of 'Building for Tomorrow' In 1976, Eddie Lennox used a $10,000 loan granted to him by his neighbor, Charles Morgan, to open the very first Service King Collision in a three-bay tin building in Dallas. Now, after 45 years of being an impressive industry competitor and growing to 335 locations, Service King is celebrating its anniversary by creating a future of significant innovation in the automotive collision space through its vision of "building for tomorrow." "We've been a leader in the industry for the past 45 years because our business focuses on a few key pillars," said Service King CEO David Cush. "We put the customer at the center of the repair experience, we strive to be the most efficient collision repair operator and we're driven to support our communities through acts of service. And while we reflect on a successful run thus far, we're also looking to a future where we won't settle for being anything less than the most efficient and technologically advanced auto collision repair company in the country." Founded on 45 years of service, the operator of high-quality auto body
collision repair facilities has fostered a culture around the calling to serve. Since its inception, Service King has supported the communities it serves through various monetary and vehicle donations nationwide. In addition to annually donating to multiple nonprofit organizations, the company has consistently repaired and donated vehicles to deserving recipients across the country through the National Auto Body Council's (NABC) Recycled Rides® program for more than 10 years. Along with its steadfast passion to help others, Service King is continuing to develop best-in-class offerings to streamline the customer experience. The company launched its 24/7 contactless Self-Schedule Service in January 2021, marking the first of its kind in the collision repair industry. The innovative self-scheduling process creates a personalized workflow from automatically recommending the earliest available appointment to expediting rental car reservations, beginning moments after a customer files a claim with their insurance provider. Service King's cutting-edge Self-
11th Annual Atlanta I-CAR/GCIA Golf Tournament
Schedule Service serves as a significant step in executing its vision of "building for tomorrow." Looking into the future, Service King plans to transform the way collision repair is performed through streamlined processes, national growth and an emphasis on teammate development. By creating an atmosphere that is "building for tomorrow," customers receive a state-of-the-art, digitalfirst experience, and team members are empowered to thrive in their career. In addition to unveiling its vision of "building for tomorrow," Service King will celebrate its 45th anniversary by donating $45,000 to the Collision Repair Education Foundation (CREF) – a nonprofit that focuses on pre-employment and preparing the next generation of auto body technicians. "For 45 years, we've been paving the way for collision repair services," said Service King President Jeff McFadden. "We're proud of the incredible strides we've made in the industry throughout our legacy and have so much more to look forward to, as together, we focus on our mission of 'building for tomorrow." n
