No More Promotion to Fail Students:  Central cabinet agreed to put an end to the non-failing policy for students upto eight class on 2nd August, 2017.  The right to free and compulsory education will be amended and the rule proclaiming the promotion of fail students of class 5th and 8th.  The failed students will now have to restudy the same class again.  An improvement exam will be allowed before considering fail.  This bill will now be presented in parliament.

Nota Will Be Applicable For Rajya Sabha Elections in Gujarat:  The Election Commission has said that the option of NOTA for the Rajya Sabha elections will be applicable in Gujarat.  The Commission has said this in the wake of Opposition objections against the non-objectionable option in the RajyaSabha elections.

Dualization Project Approved Along With Electrification Of Rail Line Between Thiruvananthapuram And Kanyakumari:  The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of the double rail line project including the electrification of the railway line between Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari.  The Union Cabinet has given its approval for financial matters under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


 The total length of the rail line is 86.56 km.  The estimated cost of the project will be 1431.90 crore and the completion cost will be 1552.94 crore, with an annual growth of 5 percent.  The project is expected to be completed by 2020-21.  This project will create direct employment during construction for 20.77 lakh labour days.

US President Donald Trump Has Signed a Bill Regarding The New Ban Against Russia:  This bill has been approved by the Senate last week.  The purpose of this bill is to punish Russia for alleged interference in the US presidential election and aggression in Ukraine over the past year.  Although Russia has refused to interfere in any way in the presidential elections.

Shanta Sarabjit Singh Passed Away:  Art and culture critic Shanta Sarabjit Singh passed away on August 1 due to a heart attack.  She was 81 years old.  Shanta was also the founder trustee of Forum for Art beyond Borders and Delhi International Arts Festival.


Reserve Bank Cuts Repo Rate:  In the review of its monetary policy, the Reserve Bank has cut interest rates by .25 basis points.  Now the repo rate has decreased from 6.25% to 6%.  At this time the repo rate is at the lowest level of 7 years.  The reduction in reverse repo rate by 0.25 percent has remained 5.75 percent.
