SEPTEMBER 29

Bluefield College has played on September 29 five previous times (1923, ‘28, ‘29, ‘34, ‘39) and hold a 2-3 mark in such games. In road contests on September 29, BC has gone 0-2 losing to King College (‘29) and Marshall Freshman (‘39). In their first encounter on Sept. 29, 1923 the Rams suffered their worst defeat, 77-0, on the road to King College. After suffering two straight shutout losses on the 29th BC responded with a 6-0 victory over Hiwassee in 1929, B.E. “Mullie” LeNoir’s first season. That season Bluefield went 8-1 and won their first of three straight Southeastern Junior College Championships. The last September 29th game came in 1939 with BC losing a 25-0 contest to Marshall’s Freshman team in Huntington, W.Va.

VS THE BLUEGRASS STATE

Bluefield College holds a 2-1 mark against teams hailing from Kentucky. Prior to this season BC held a 2-0 mark in games against their only Kentucky opponent, Union. After losing to then No. 4 Georgetown the Rams look to rebound against Union and get back to an even 2-2 all-time while also looking for an even record against Kentucky teams this season.

INTO THE ARCHIVES

The last time BC lost four consecutive games came in 1938. That season was just the second losing season for Bluefield under Mullie LeNoir who amassed a 63-28-2 record in 11 seasons. The four losses came from WV Tech, Tennessee Wesleyan and twice to Virginia Tech Freshman.

AGAINST THE BIG BOYS

Bluefield College holds a 4-1-1 record in games against Appalachian State, East Tennessee and William & Mary. However in games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Top-25 Poll the Rams have gone 0-2 with losses to then No. 4 Georgetown and Kentucky Christian who was receiving votes in the poll. In those two losses the Rams have been outscrored 129-37 including a 77-9 loss to Georgetown.
