Winter Wonderland Time to get festive

Jonas K0ntautas, Communications Coordinator writes:

The Festive season is here! December is just round the corner, Christmas decorations are everywhere and we’ve all picked our Secret Santa. We’ve seen the John Lewis and Sainsbury’s Christmas ads; some of us were amazed by them, but for some it fell a bit short. You know what will definitely meet everyone’s expectations? RSU Winter Wonderland. This year the Winter Wonderland returns to Digby Square on 7th December. Open from 1pm, RSU Winter Wonderland will have all the usual festive food, drink and entertainment. Everything you came to love and expect in the last few years from our events! This event is open to all students, staff and local community; bring your friends, family and everyone who needs some festive spirit. The main stage will host a selection of live acts to keep the crowds entertained, so grab a glass of mulled wine and show your support for those brave enough to take to the stage!

Societies success get involved! Colette Goulding, Societies Intern writes:

The first few months of this academic year have been very exciting for RSU societies; fresher’s fair was a massive success, with over 46 societies showcasing their plans for the year and recruiting fresh members, 14 new societies have been established, from Criminology,

to the Bratwurst Sausages F.C., and the new and improved RSU website has increased student engagement with societies more than ever! The Student Activities Fund has been put to excellent use, supporting a series of successful society events. This kicked off with the enchanted fairy orchard fest, a collaboration between Growhampton, our on-campus sustainability project, and the LGBTQ+ society, whose membership has seen an unbelievable

increase this academic year. There have been many firsts in terms of society events; the newly formed Japanese Anime and Culture society held the first of its Learn to Cook sessions, using amazing veg provided by Growhampton, SSOAP held the first of its Drunken Drama performances, attracting a massive crowd, and the RoeHogwarts society kicked off the year with a magical potions class! Coming up is a massive intersociety fundraising session on December 7th in aid of ActionAid, in light of the recent earthquake in Haiti. surface? This most fragile skin of our planetary home - a mix of weathered rock, decaying organic matter and a vast community of microorganisms sustains all terrestrial life including our ever growing human population. Soil and food go hand in hand. Healthy soil grows healthy plants which nurture healthy and happy humans. It’s time we dig a little deeper and unearth the secrets of the soil during Lets Celebrate The Earth. Join our celebrations as we do some soul searching and soil searching and stop treating our precious soil, like dirt.
