The Nest Above is the Bird’s Nest is a newly built event space. The second story of the Bird’s Nest will be exclusively yours. We have created a warm, stunning second-story event space. Located close to the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park, the Nest Above is the perfect venue with a rustic modern look framed by beautiful mountain views. We offer in-house and offsite catering providing your special event with quality, ingredient-driven Colorado cuisine, and exclusive wine and bar selections. Our upstairs event space is accessible by stairs or lift and can seat up to 90 guests. A full buy out of Bird’s Nest is available upon request, accommodating up to 125 guests.

Katie and Mikhail are a classic modern love story. After meeting on Hinge, the pair went on their first date in the spring of 2021. Katie was instantly charmed by Mikhail’s long hair, ridiculously large truck, and propensity for Adidas tracksuits. When Mikhail planned gnome painting for their second date, she knew he was the one. Mikhail wasn’t deterred by Katie’s constant talk of babies and even came up with three nicknames for their future children on the first date. Unlike Katie, Mikhail only needed one date to know that he was in the presence of his future wife. Fast forward seven months, Mikhail proposed to Katie on Christmas Day in front of their families in matching pajamas!

AYAH + ABU

DENVER

Ayah and Abu met while attending the same university, Ayah in her freshman year and Abu in his senior year. The couple’s story first began when Abu noticed Ayah the semester prior, however, he didn’t think he would have a chance to interact with this beautiful girl, so he let it go. That’s until the fall of 2015, Ayah and Abu serendipitously became officers in a club on campus. The spark was obvious and the two quickly formed a close friendship. As time passed, Ayah and Abu began seeing each other more often and it wasn’t long before they found themselves falling in love. Six years later, Abu proposed on a rooftop in Denver as the sun set beyond the Mile High City, complete with flowers and a sweatshirt that read “Ayah, will you marry me?”

KRYSTLE + DAVE

DENVER

During the summer of 2013, Krystle and Dave met at a wine festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As fate would have it, Krystle ran into Dave’s sister, Jess, who was a fellow student at the same pharmacy school. Unknowingly, Jess then introduced her brother to his future wife. But it would take three years before Krystle and Dave became a couple. “We became instant friends, but were in very different times in our lives. However, that connection carried over various casual events through the years and we officially started dating in 2016,” Krystle shares. Six years later, Dave proposed on New Year’s Eve. Each year the couple would set a goal to visit a new city for every New Year, but in typical pandemic style, they rang in 2022 with a quiet evening among friends in their home city of Albuquerque. When the 10-second countdown began, Dave dropped to one knee and asked Krystle to marry him. Dave would later go on to say that it took Krystle until the next year to finally say, “Yes!”

Steeped in nature, blue skies, towering evergreen trees, granite cliffs, and a blanket of the whitest snow frame the ceremony as Murphy E Photography captures every moment and detail of the day. Breathtaking florals grace an intricately carved wooden screen evoking vintage charm. As you walk towards your partner, Bramble & Bloom’s arrangements of white, cream, terracotta, and pale pink florals, complement the aisle and add a touch of texture.

Following the ceremony, celebrate your authentic Rocky Mountain romance with a hygge inspired reception back at the lodge for a meal prepared by culinary chefs on site. Given the venue’s remote location, there is an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Dishes like smoked pulled pork with heirloom grit soufflé and cast iron chicken with cornbread Panzanella salad are among the menu choices. The mountain chic décor carried all the way to the three-tiered, decadent chocolate cake from Cake Me Away displayed on a thick wooden bark charger which was then accented with toffee and cream colored floral.

Cassidee + Wyatt

When Cassidee and Wyatt met during their junior year of high school they became best friends right off the bat. As it often happens, the pair stepped out of the friend zone to take their connection to the next level and never looked back. Six years later, Wyatt proposed on an annual beach trip to South Padre, Texas. While Cassidee and Wyatt call Texas home, the couple planned a dreamy, boho wedding in Southwest Colorado.

A TOUCH OF TEXAS

For the wedding ceremony, Cassidee and Wyatt exchanged vows in front of a circular arch adorned with a mix of pampas grass, dried palm leaves, and greenery to create a cool, modern focal point against the rugged and breathtaking San Juan Mountains. To incorporate a touch of Texas, they opted for a rustic style cowhide rug as the altar.

Missouri natives, Mallory and Kyle go way back to the days of performing in their high school marching band together. The two began dating the summer between their junior and senior year and soon fell in love. After six years of dating, Kyle proposed at the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland. “My mom grew up in California and worked at Disneyland when she was in high school. She started taking my sister and I every summer when we were kids and it became our special place. Kyle had never been before so one January he joined my family and he got down on one knee in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle. It was magical!” shares the bride. Mallory and Kyle planned an outdoor destination wedding with boho details.

On a weekend getaway to the alpine village of Vail, nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Wayne proposed to his then-girlfriend Gigi. Wayne knew he wanted to pop the question in an impressive and romantic location that would always be remembered and hold significance from that day forward. So, the couple set off to explore the Dillon Ice Castles, a real winter wonderland experience with castle-like ice sculptures carved by artists featuring tunnels, slides and illuminations. “I was genuinely surprised and amazed by the effort and detail that went into the planning of the night and don’t get me started on the RING! Just... WOW!” Gigi shares.

Noelle + Hetwortha

Noelle and Hetwortha met online in 2011 when Hetwortha followed Noelle’s blog on Tumblr. After Hetwortha messaged Noelle, the two quickly bonded over their shared love of film and art. Within a few months Noelle and Hetwortha began dating and as they say, the rest is history! On a trip to Colorado in October nearly ten years later, Hetwortha popped the question at Denver Botanic Gardens. While the couple was visiting the Mile High City for a Jonas Brothers concert, Noelle had no reason to believe anything was amiss as they moseyed through the 24-acre urban oasis. “We walked around the garden and toward the end of our stay he led me back to the Woodland Mosaic & Solarium, arguably our favorite spot, and proposed! It was so beautiful and intimate, just us and nature,” Noelle recalls. Noelle and Hetwortha planned a romantic art deco wedding.

CULTURAL TRADITIONS

“My husband is from India so it was very important to us to incorporate some of his cultural traditions in our big day. I was able to get henna done with my bridal party a few days before the wedding by Leah Reddell. We also did a few rituals during the ceremony including the exchanging of varmala, one of the oldest traditions in Indian wedding ceremonies. During this ceremony, the bride and groom exchange garlands around each other’s neck. The flowers represent excitement, happiness, and beauty – all tied together on a string signifying the marital union. Most importantly we hired Priya Hariharan, an Indian classical singer, to sing live during the Indian rituals of our ceremony.”

Alyssa and Sean met in Steamboat Springs during the fall of 2017. Sean had been living in Colorado’s Yampa Valley for eight years when Alyssa moved to the charming mountain town. While Sean’s friends met Alyssa first and shared the news with him about the new girl in town, Alyssa had already become friends with Sean’s sisters and was looking forward to meeting this wild snowboarder named Sean. The two were finally introduced to each other at a group dinner where Alyssa was instantly smitten. She even called her best friend at the end of the evening exclaiming that she was “in trouble.” From there, Alyssa and Sean were inseparable. Two years later, Sean asked Alyssa to marry him at 14,265 feet on the summit of Mount Quandary in the White River National Forest.

The morning of the wedding, Alyssa and her bridesmaids slipped into the perfect mix of laid-back, cozy, and festive flannel pajamas. While the bride wore a sophisticated set of white accented with black piping, her bridal party looked especially stylish in mismatched red plaid pajamas, a wintertime staple we all know and love.

Megan + Matthew

In the age of online dating apps, a true blind date is more uncommon than not. However, Megan and Matthew are proof that the so-called, old school, pre smartphone dating experience still exists. While Matthew lived in North Carolina, he spent the summers working as a backpacking guide in Fraser, Colorado alongside Megan’s college roommate at Colorado State University. In May of 2020, Matthew moved from North Carolina to Colorado and immediately, Macy, the mutual friend of the two, claimed Megan and Matthew would be perfect for each other. Equally enjoying being single in their twenties, Megan and Matthew weren’t interested, but after much persistence from Macy, Matthew finally gave in. Neither of them had met before, or even talked, when Matthew called Megan to ask her to dinner. The pair settled on a date and time and to their surprise they ended up talking for five hours. Nearly a year later, Matthew took Megan to Crested Butte where their story first began. “My plan was to go to Lake Erwin, make her a French toast breakfast with bacon and mimosas on my backpacking stove. Then after breakfast, I would get down on one knee and ask the woman I fell in love with to marry me…so I thought.” After witnessing the crowd on the lake, Matthew quickly pivoted his plans by suggesting a walk down a nearby trail through the valley where he got down on one knee and asked Megan to marry him. Megan and Matthew said, “I do” at Spruce Mountain Ranch.

THE DAY AFTER

Looking back on their wedding day, the couple reminisces about the opening prayer of the ceremony. “Matthew and I embraced tightly as we received our first blessing as a couple. At that moment all I could think was, ‘I can’t believe we are here,’” Megan shares.

Julia + Grayson

Julia and Grayson met at Julia’s high school senior prom, however, they weren’t each other’s date. Grayson attended a different school and was a blind date for one of Julia’s friends, yes you read that correctly, a blind date to a high school prom! The two mingled that evening and ended up following one another on social media, it wasn’t until a year later that Grayson DM’d Julia on Twitter about Avalanche Hockey. The pair bonded over sports and music, but nothing came of it. Then, in 2014 Julia and Grayson bumped into each other at Country Jam Music Festival in Grand Junction where they reconnected over Beersby and music. From that day on they became inseparable. After seven years of dating, Grayson got down on one knee and proposed during the couple’s anniversary trip to Keystone. That Saturday evening before dinner, Julia and Grayson walked their dog, Mack, along the Keystone Valley where a hidden photographer captured the proposal. “Gray turned to me mid-walk and went for it - it was so fast I just started crying and fell to the ground, honestly not sure if I said ‘yes’ out loud,” Julia shares.

UNTRADITIONAL TRADITIONS

The couple spent the morning of their wedding day getting ready together. “It was something we knew we wanted, really the most important part was that we were together the whole day, start to end. We woke up together, had breakfast in bed and slowly got ready together,” the bride says. Julia found her A-line gown with a corset bustier top and tulle skirt from an online Ukrainian-based brand. While the dress was a complete risk, having never tried it on, the combination of off-theshoulder ruffled sleeves and semi-transparent corset boning, turned out to be a big hit.

“It’s been said a thousand times, but just do things the way you as a couple want to. We were so incredibly lucky to have family on board with our choice to elope! Our parents knew when it was happening and we shared the news with the rest of our close family and friends! But we would have eloped no matter what, it was definitely the right thing for us and it’s just the cherry on top to have all the support. As a photographer and a bride, I think the only thing I will always share is trust your gut and do what feels good for your marriage.”

Larissa + Lane

Larissa and Lane first met in 2008 while attending Oregon State University. Three years later, the pair unexpectedly and fatefully bumped into one another while studying at the campus library. It all started when Lane called Larissa a few days after their encounter to ask her on what was his version of a first date, a leisurely run. The couple jokes that this really set the stage for what would become many years of outdoor adventures. After ten years of dating, Lane got down on one knee and proposed on a beautiful bluebird day in Vail. Larissa and Lane planned a romantic and whimsical wedding at North Star Gatherings in Idaho Springs.

Once the vows were exchanged and the rings were on, the newlyweds took a moment to themselves to make things official and celebrate alone before joining the reception. “Immediately after the ceremony, we went up to the loft of the venue together where we signed our marriage certificate with our dog as the witness. We sat there, just the two of us and our dog. It was such a special moment to get some time alone while watching our guests come into the reception space one by one,” says the bride.

“Wedding planning can be stressful, but try not to stress about the small stuff. In the end, celebrating your love with all of your most cherished people will make for the best day of your life, no matter if a few things don’t work out exactly as planned.”

The story of Brittany and Karlos began below the Mason–Dixon Line in their home state of Mississippi. After catching sight of Brittany a handful of times at church, Karlos chivalrously approached Brittany and asked her on a date. To propose, Karlos created a storybook of the couple’s courtship and sang an India Arie song to Brittany, serenading her with a fake guitar solo. Brittany and Karlos celebrated eight years of marriage with an anniversary session nestled at the base of Vail Mountain.
