HOW TO GET THERE Whether by car or plane, getting to Steamboat Springs from Denver is the most ideal route. United Airlines and Southwest offer yearround flights into Yampa Valley Regional Airport while other major airlines only offer seasonal flights into the northwest Colorado airport. Denver is only 157 miles from Steamboat Springs and is a picturesque drive through Colorado no matter the time of year. You and your guests will want a rental car to travel around Steamboat Springs in order to experience everything the town has to offer. Be sure to check with your accommodations to see if they offer a shuttle service to and from the airport for the most seamless transfer service.

MAKE IT OFFICIAL In Routt County, couples are required to make an appointment to pick up their marriage license from the County Clerk and Recorder’s office. The couple getting married both need to be in attendance and both need valid forms of identification. They will need to fill out a marriage application online before their appointment and need the transaction number to receive the physical copy of the marriage license. The marriage license is $30, and can be paid for through cash or check only. The marriage license must be used within 35 days of issuance and can be returned to the County Clerk and Recorder’s office within 63 days of the marriage date.

Anna + Graham Anna and Graham met while living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Their first date was immediately followed by the COVID-19 lockdown, which forced them to get to know each other in a way that most couples will never understand. With Graham’s help, Anna found her adventurous side. The two packed their belongings and moved to Denver where they now live in the foothills with their cat, Nova. Graham popped the question to Anna on a ski trip with friends and family to Steamboat Springs three years after their first meeting. The powder was perfect and Graham, excited as he was, could not wait to ask Anna after their first run of the day. They celebrated with bubbly and cheering spectators.

A modern day love story, Leah and Josh met through a dating app. They dated for four years before Josh popped the question in Steamboat Springs. Leah, who initially did not want to go on a snowy November hike, was enticed by Josh with the promise of hot toddy’s in town post-hike. With just them and their dog, Frankie, in attendance Josh proposed on the trail in the midst of a blizzard. It was the perfect winter wonderland day. They planned a dreamy fall wedding in Steamboat Springs, a place so near and dear to their hearts, at Lake Catamount. Leah and Josh enjoyed every second of their wedding day and credit their wedding coordinator, Lee of Soul Spark Events, to helping them plan a celebration that reflected their love story in such an authentic way. Their ceremony, framed by Lake Catamount and breathtaking Aspen trees, was incredibly special as Leah and Josh exchanged handwritten vows in front of their closest friends and family. They spent the rest of their wedding day dancing, enjoying delicious food and creating new memories with the people they love most in the world.

Ashley and Brendan’s love story began in New York City when a friend from college invited Ashley to a party that she almost chose not to attend. Thanks to some encouragement from her mom, Ashley went to the party and immediately was smitten with Brendan. Ashley, a self-proclaimed huge Nicholas Sparks fan, knew she was always destined for an insane love story. Brendan ended up taking Ashley home back to New York City by boat after a night of sharing stories, watching the sun set over the bay and listening to Jack Johnson. One week later, they went on an official date and their fate was sealed. They were engaged a year and a half later during a picturesque ski trip to Colorado.

Ashley and Brendan planned a late summer wedding at Bella Vista Estate with themes of elegance combined with mountain whimsy. They chose to include intentional references to nature, as it’s something that resonates so soundly with Ashley. Her family has maintained a residence in Steamboat Springs for over ten years, so Ashley knew immediately that’s where she and Brendan would tie the knot.

“The mountain air, the views and the weather were just unreal. Waking up to the views that Bella Vista has to offer were just a dream, and the sunset that fell over our cocktail hour as guests roamed the property was breathtaking. Our wedding was the first wedding that most of our guests attended and they still say that we ‘ruined’ their first wedding experience because no other wedding will ever be as good as ours.”

Their wedding day, filled with hues of blush and cream, was nothing short of spectacular. Ashley and Brendan worked with Morgan Ashley Cox to create a wedding day with incredible personality and intention. The florals, designed by Blush & Bay Floral, stole the show and only enhanced the natural beauty of the magnificent Rocky Mountain views. Ashley poured her heart and soul into planning her wedding day, so much so that she decided to start her own wedding planning and design business.

KARA + JORDAN Kara and Jordan originally met through work in Golden, Colorado while working on a small design-build trailhead where Kara was a project designer landscape architect and Jordan was an estimator. They instantly became friends, and two years later, went on their first date to a farm during the global pandemic. They sipped whiskey in a truck bed and climbed trees when they both realized they were going to fall in love. Jordan planned a surprise proposal by taking Kara out to their favorite rural country road where they would regularly watch the sunsets, get away from the world and get to know each other. They celebrated their engagement with curly fries and a night away to a yurt.

They planned an intimate wedding at Midnight Ranch with only 18 guests in attendance. From Jordan locking his suit jacket in his car to a stunning rainbow over their ceremony space, Kara and Jordan’s wedding day was filled with vintage and bohemian themes. Kara and Jordan knew that they wanted to incorporate intimate moments with their guests throughout the day. They chose to include a foot washing ceremony to symbolize their desire to serve each other and put each other first throughout life. In lieu of a dance floor or big reception, they asked everyone at the table to write down their best marriage advice that brought about only the best serious, funny and trusted advice for one another.

LINNEA + MIKE Thanks to an awful pickup line during a night out in Denver at a bar, Linnea and Mike’s love story began. They had just started dating when COVID-19 hit and everything shut down. This made for an interesting time getting to know each other and they began planning unique dates centered around being outdoors. They would hike to a spot overlooking Red Rocks Amphitheater and enjoy a picnic together during the pandemic. Mike knew he wanted to recreate this time of their relationship for their engagement and planned an intimate proposal. Linnea was equally shocked and excited when Mike popped the question! They returned home after the proposal to a surprise party where Mike had flown in Linnea’s family and close friends waiting. While she always thought she wanted an elopement, having all of her out of state friends and family celebrate their engagement sealed the deal that Linnea and Mike would plan a large Colorado wedding instead.

“Wedding planning was not my thing, but I was lucky enough to have Brynn with First Look Events as my planner. She knows our venue so well, and her expertise made planning easy and more fun. I am type A, so it was hard to let go of little logistical and timeline details. Luckily, Brynn is phenomenal and I was able to relax and let her do her thing. Every detail of the entire day was on point, and she even had me walking down the aisle five minutes early.”

Linnea and Mike’s wedding day was filled with lush florals, elegant details and astonishing views of the Rocky Mountains. Their ceremony, officiated by Mike’s sister, was incredibly meaningful and something both Linnea and Mike will cherish forever. Linnea and Mike chose to write personalized vows to each other, and Mike spent the entire weekend leading up to their wedding memorizing and practicing the delivery of his vows. It was the sweetest detail and a memory Linnea laughs at because it perfectly describes the man she was lucky enough to marry.
Both raised in Colorado, Linnea and Mike knew they wanted to start the next chapter of their love story in Steamboat Springs. Bella Vista Estate served as the perfect backdrop for their wedding day. They danced the night away under the stars with their closest friends and family during the reception. A legend in Linnea’s family, her mom bakes the same chocolate cake recipe for every birthday, holiday and special occasion, so it was only fitting she bake the wedding cake for Linnea and Mike’s wedding. While their wedding day was a blur, Linnea and Mike made sure to soak in every moment with their friends and family. 54

KRISTIN + WESLEY Kristin and Wesley met at a bar at the base of the mountain in Steamboat Springs. Wesley then found Kristin on social media and “liked” Kristin’s posts for some time before Kristin finally asked if he would like to take her on a date. They are both avid skiers and enjoy any time outdoors, so it was only fitting that Wesley proposed on a ski trip to Wyoming. Kristin and Wesley had done a backcountry ski trip to Wyoming the year before and decided to try it again with their new Border Collie pup, Timber. It was a gray and gloomy day when they checked into their cabin, but they decided to brave a mountain trail within walking distance of their cabin. Once they got to the top of the mountain, the sky cleared and the sun was out! Wesley packed down a little area with his skis, and with the most beautiful view of the Tetons, he popped the question. It was easy for Kristin and Wesley to decide on their wedding venue in Steamboat Springs. Wesley grew up on Flying Diamond Ranch and spent most of his life adventuring the property before he met Kristin. They now spend their winters backcountry skiing up the mountain and through the aspen trees where they said their vows.

Their wedding day theme was classic with a western twist. From hay bales covered in western blankets to custom cornhole boards created by Scott Robeson Custom Woodworking, they incorporated a natural color palette of greens, whites, tans and pops of rust to bring their western wedding day to life. Dried grasses amongst simple florals, designed by One Fine Day Productions, stood out against the glow of the late-fall aspen trees.
