MEGHAN + TYLER Meghan and Tyler’s love story began at a stunning mountain photo shoot for a friend’s father’s clothing company. Two years later, they reconnected on the vast realm of the internet. As fate would have it, their virtual exchange would become the start of something extraordinary. Fast forward seven years, the couple embarked on a memorable ten-day road trip. With the open road stretching before them, they decided to make a stop in Kelowna to visit Meghan’s sister. Unbeknownst to Meghan, her sister had conspired with Tyler to play a significant role in the proposal plans. A full day of wine tours set the scene for the engagement. As they arrived at their first stop, Quails’ Gate Winery, panoramic views of the estate vineyard and Okanagan Lake provided a perfect backdrop to pop the question. While capturing precious moments on camera, Tyler turned to Meghan, his voice carried a hint of nervousness as he whispered, “Guess what? In the fall of 2009, Madi and Josh found themselves seated next to each other on the school bus in Calgary. Madi, starting grade 10, was excited about the new school year, while Josh, beginning grade 9, was a bit nervous about the transition to high school. As the days went by, Madi and Josh became fast friends. In December 2010, they had the opportunity to travel abroad for a school trip. Traveling brought them even closer, and upon returning from overseas, the two couldn’t deny their growing feelings for each other. From that moment on, they were truly inseparable. Fast forward twelve years to a weekend getaway to Nordegg. The couple decided to stay at STIX Cabin, a remote retreat just a short distance away from Abraham Lake. What made it even more special was that they could bring along their dog, Frank. The day began with a homemade breakfast and coffee on an enclosed patio surrounded by the forest. They set out on a hike, immersing themselves in the Canadian Rockies, and later took a refreshing swim in the lake. Afterward, they returned to the cabin to recharge with a nap and a shower before planning their evening. As the sun bathed the cabin in a golden glow, Madi and Josh were knee-deep in a friendly game of Bananagrams, enjoying cocktails and the cabin’s eclectic collection of records. The ambiance was beautiful, and the joy of their time together was palpable. Madi excused herself to use the restroom. When she emerged, she found Josh by the window, their favorite song playing in the background and the question every girl dreams about. “I have no idea what he said, but there were many tears, hugs and just so much joy in that moment. It was perfect,” Madi shares.

Jeffrey and Tyler, each engrossed in the pages of their individual life stories, found their paths intersecting in a serendipitous affair. The magic of fate brought them together, uniting their love for adventures. Two years into their relationship, the couple planned a romantic winter escapade to the enchanting Fairmont Banff Springs. Amidst the snow-covered property of the resort, Jeffrey and Tyler wandered hand in hand, creating precious memories with every step. It was during this quiet evening as they strolled through the illuminated paths, their laughter blending with the crisp mountain air that Tyler, his heart brimming with affection, seized the perfect moment. Against the backdrop of a starlit sky and snowy scenery, he knelt down on one knee, a glint of nervous excitement in his eyes. He asked Jeffrey to join him in writing the next chapter of their lives together, not just as partners, but as husbands. In late May of 2020, Amanda and Tyler found themselves navigating the challenges of living on their own during a lockdown in Los Angeles, California. Feeling the isolation that many did, especially those who were single, they took a chance and joined an online dating app, Hinge, hoping to find a connection. After matching on the app, Amanda and Tyler began their journey by exchanging texts and engaging in phone conversations for weeks. As they got to know each other better, their interest in one another grew. Finally, the pair mustered the courage to meet in person for a morning walk in the normally buzzing beach town of Venice. During their stroll, they walked and talked for hours, discovering how well they clicked. It became evident that the two had found something special in each other. Destiny seemed to have its own plans, and despite the global pandemic posing challenges, love found its way into their lives. Fast forward 18 months, Tyler surprised Amanda with an early birthday present. Little did she know, it held clues to an unforgettable trip he had planned for her. Inside the gift, Amanda found cozy mittens, a scarf and a matching beanie, hinting at a cold destination. Tyler then handed Amanda a card, and when she opened it, she was delighted to see a homemade boarding pass that read “From: Los Angeles, To: Surprise!” Packed and ready for cold weather, Amanda had no inkling that their destination was a resort town nestled within Banff National Park. “I even questioned him multiple times about needing a passport, but he had secretly found mine and ensured it was packed. Originally, Tyler had intended to propose on a frozen lake near our hotel in Banff, but due to heavy snowfall, the plan had to be altered. However, he had a brilliant backup plan in place. Tyler had coordinated with the hotel staff at the Fairmont Banff Springs to transform our room into a dreamy setting. Candles and photos of us adorned the space, with a warm fire crackling in the fireplace and a breathtaking view of the mountains,” Amanda shares. As the couple entered the room, Amanda was immediately enchanted by the romantic ambiance. While she admired the view, she turned around to call Tyler over, only to find him down on one knee. Overwhelmed with emotions, Amanda managed to say a resounding “Yes!” to Tyler’s proposal.

When Shane received orders to move to Victoria with the Navy, he never imagined that it would lead him to meeting his future wife. But, after settling into his new surroundings on the Pacific coast, he crossed paths with Sunny, a local to the island. While their encounter was unexpected, it would ultimately change their lives forever. Three years later in the summer of 2022, Shane planned a surprise proposal in the picturesque setting of Lake Okanagan. Natasha and Richard’s Indian wedding was a celebration like no other. The couple had a clear vision from the start – they wanted it to be a backyard affair, capturing the essence of a giant, joyous family gathering. For them, this meant creating an atmosphere where their friends and family could come together, dress in their finest attire and relish each other’s company in a way that felt natural and heartfelt. The bride and groom’s wedding day attire exuded a timeless regal charm, thanks to Sunny’s Bridal. Natasha’s bridal ensemble was a sight to behold with intricate embroidery and luxurious fabrics. But what made her style even more special was her nose ring, a treasured heirloom passed down from her mother’s wedding. It carried with it not only the weight of tradition but also a profound sense of familial connection. For the Mehendi ceremony, Natasha donned a splendid outfit from the House of Raina, which embodied the vibrant spirit of the occasion. Her grandmother’s jewellery adorned her, a collection of pieces steeped in history and sentiment.

Days earlier, Natasha and Richard welcomed 90 guests for a more intimate affair with American traditions. Situated on an oceanfront estate with lush gardens and a 565-acre site steeped in history, the couple’s union was recognized at Hatley Castle. Intentionally chosen for its filming location of the original X-Men movies, which is the groom’s favorite films. The castle’s manicured lawns and the majestic architecture created a fairytale setting that perfectly encapsulated their vision; a warm summer’s day bathed in romance that felt warm and inviting. “Really, we wanted to create a day that felt like our love was just everywhere,” Natasha shares.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Make time for each other throughout the day. Having little moments alone together allowed us to really be in the moment of getting married. It’s a little cliché but everything does really go by so quickly and having a minute to just be with one another helps slow it down a little and lets you cherish those moments. Also, if you can, get a day-of coordinator! Having Grace and her team just handle everything on the day was worth every penny. It’s honestly a must have in our opinion.”

Thomas, a professional photographer, had crossed paths with Meagan when she responded to a casting call he posted. Although Meagan and Thomas didn’t collaborate on that initial project, they stayed connected. Fate brought the pair together again for a portfolio shoot where an unexpected and undeniable chemistry ignited between them. Despite their efforts to maintain professionalism, the two couldn’t resist some lighthearted flirtation. As the hour passed, it became evident to both of them that they would see each other again. Nearly three years later on a moonlit night, Thomas invited Meagan for a walk in a forest near their house. Beneath the enchanting silver glow, he knelt down on one knee and asked Meagan the question that had been on his mind. The couple worked with Wild Smile Events to help achieve their goals of a modern romantic wedding with an intimate guest list.

Thomas emphasised fostering a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Part of this included inviting friends to swap their phones for disposable film cameras, which served a dual role in documenting candid moments from the day. The bride and groom chose a Tudor Revival mansion set on 44-acres with beautifully manicured gardens, reflective pools and serene ponds meandering throughout granite pathways to fit their aesthetic desires. For her wedding day fashion, Meagan wore an effortless Grace Loves Lace gown then slipped into an angelic little mini from Odylyne the Ceremony for the second half of the evening.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “First of all, if you are not the type to plan elaborate social events on a regular basis, the first thing you should do is hire an exceptional wedding planner. They will help you work within your budget to make the wedding you dream of a reality. Second, don’t try to please everyone when writing your guest list. For us, this may have been the most difficult aspect of planning our wedding, but we are so glad that we kept it limited to close family and cherished friends.”

Madeline & Filip Imagine being proposed to through a piece of artwork. An expression of love that melded creativity and emotion into an extraordinary moment, is exactly what unfolded on the Alberta Legislature Grounds. Before Madeline and Filip’s afternoon outing, the couple swung by Farrow, one of their favourite sandwich shops, to pick up a delicious bite to eat and brought along a bag of basic paint supplies, then set off to find a cozy spot where they could revel in the beauty of the day. As they painted, Filip couldn’t resist cracking a few jokes about his artistic abilities, or lack thereof. He playfully complained about his less-than-perfect work and turned the canvas around, revealing a question that would resonate deeply with Madeline’s heart. The words, “Will you marry me?” adorned the surface of the painting. Nearly 14 months later, Madeline and Filip were married among 145 loved ones in a whimsically modern wedding infused with a retro aesthetic.

The couple chose The Creative Hive for their exchange of vows then departed from the former industrial warehouse in a 1969 Cadillac convertible, the very same car that Madeline's parents had driven on their own wedding day. On the way to the reception, the newlyweds rode in the back of the vehicle with the roof down as the bride’s father drove to Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association, a 48-acre horse stable located in the heart of Edmonton’s river valley. “We didn’t play any music. It was the early evening, so the sun was still up and warm, but beginning to go down. It was by far the most peaceful moment of the weekend. We reflect back on it fondly and often,” Madeline reminisces.

Amy & josh Amy and Josh were workmates turned forever lovers. No, this isn’t an episode from the mockumentary-style comedy, The Office. Despite spending hours in the same room, the two colleagues who sat in nearby cubicles had never actually spoken. However, fate had other plans for them. One day, a training course brought Amy and Josh together at the exact table. Within the span of a few hours, they went from nearly complete strangers to fast friends. The newfound friendship blossomed outside of the office as well. Somewhere between park hangouts and plates of delicious sushi rolls, a shift from friends to something more began to take shape. Officially a couple, the pair moved in together just before an unforeseen event: the pandemic. Locked down in their apartment, Amy and Josh discovered each other’s quirks and all, very quickly. After converting their old SUV into a makeshift camper, and hitting the ground road tripping through the Pacific Northwest, Amy and Josh both knew they had found a love that was destined to last a lifetime. Two years later, they were ready to embark on another adventure, a camping trip in the majestic Rocky Mountains, with a surprise in store. In true 2021 fashion, Josh carefully hid the engagement ring inside a medical mask, a nod to the Covid era that had brought them even closer. Nestled alongside the tranquil Thompson River, the couple pulled into a campsite for the night and set up camp. Clad in comfortable sweatpants and sipping boxed wine, Amy and Josh enjoyed the quietude of the evening with the crackling sound of the fire. Then, as if the universe had orchestrated it, their favourite Ben Howard song played through the speaker. The melody washed over them and Josh knew deep down this was the perfect moment to pop the question.

On a Sunday afternoon in September, the bride and groom chose to break wedding tradition by getting ready together, while sharing a glass of whiskey. “Josh helped me put on my dress, and I helped him with his tie. It was a symbol of our unity - our choice to get married and navigate life together as a team,” Amy shares. Inspired by the laid-back coastal setting and lush forest, the atmosphere exuded an air of casual elegance. A mix of modern and natural elements created a captivating and timeless ambience. At the ceremony, Amy walked down the aisle to a song she and Josh danced to in the rain on their very first date.

Rebecca and Thomas’ lives intersected in a serendipitous manner at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Amidst the celebration, the two discovered a shared passion for running and working out during ungodly hours in the morning. It was an uncommon interest that instantly sparked a connection between them. As they delved into conversations about their fitness routines, Thomas agreed to accompany Rebecca to her yoga class the very next morning. True to his word, Thomas and Rebecca met up before the class for a presession coffee. They laughed their way to the studio and from that point forward, the budding romance turned into spending nearly every waking moment together. After a year and a half of dating, Thomas proposed on a tranquil morning, as the pair set out for a walk along the picturesque Spanish Banks Beach. The sun was just coming up over the city as he got down on one knee and asked Rebecca to marry him. Thomas had even strategically arranged to have his brother hiding in the bushes to capture the heartfelt moment. With a resounding “Yes!” Rebecca and Thomas FaceTimed their family and embarked on a 100km bike ride where they ended the day with a beer and burger at one of their favourite restaurants.

When the time came to plan the wedding, Rebecca and Thomas made a conscious decision to approach the process with a laid-back and easygoing attitude. Keeping the guest list intimate, the couple carefully selected a venue spread across 55-acres situated in the VanDusen Botanical Garden in the Shaughnessy neighbourhood where a diverse collection of over 7,500 plants and flowers offered an enchanting atmosphere. The wedding day was, of course, filled with love, laughter and cherished memories, but an absolute favourite moment for the bride was the intimate first look she shared with her groom before the ceremony. “Tom was waiting on the dock in the middle of the lush pond and we were able to have a private moment of solitude before jumping full steam into all of the excitement of the day,” Rebecca shares.

Drawn together by their shared passion for hunting, Brooke and Layton struck up a conversation in the DMs. Over time, their interactions evolved to sharing personal stories and experiences that left them feeling something special and worth exploring further. A year and a half after their initial encounter, Layton proposed at the couple’s home, as it held countless memories of their time together. Nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, the couple’s home ranch served as the backdrop for their bohemian-meets-western-inspired wedding. With 300 guests in attendance, the celebration was a grand affair filled with love and country charm. Brooke and Layton expressed that it had always been a dream to exchange vows on this very property. Even before purchasing the ranch, the two felt a deep connection to it. “During our initial visit, as we walked the grounds with our realtor, we whispered to each other, imagining the possibility of getting married right here. At that time, we weren’t even engaged, but the thought lingered in our hearts,” Brooke says. Being able to unite in matrimony where the bride and groom envision building a future and starting a family brought an additional layer of profound meaning to their nuptials.

London & Ethan In January 2017, London and Ethan serendipitously met at a friend’s house party. Across the room, Ethan caught London’s eye, prompting her to excitedly inform her older brother that she found him cute. London’s brother introduced the two, and from that party onward, they soon became a couple. Fast forward five years, London and Ethan embarked on a trip to Vernon to attend an annual summer event with their friends. The day was filled with warm weather, poolside laughs and refreshing cocktails, creating a perfect backdrop for a memorable moment. Hailey & Jake From high school friends to engaged parents, Hailey and Jake first crossed paths as teenagers in the hallway. While there was an undeniable connection between them, Hailey and Jake held back their romantic inclinations. Graduation day arrived, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. After tossing their caps into the air, the pair soon realized it was finally time to take a chance on their feelings. The relationship flourished, and their love deepened with each passing moment. Time flew by, and at the tender age of 21, Hailey and Jake welcomed their first daughter into the world. Becoming parents further solidified their commitment to each other, as they navigated the joys and challenges of parenthood together. Their love story continued to unfold, and just two years later, their family grew with the arrival of their second daughter. Amidst the beautiful memories of their growing family, Jake decided it was time to take the next step in their journey. On August 22, 2021, he meticulously planned a romantic surprise for Hailey on her birthday at Christina Lake. In the fall of 2022, situated on top of the Malahat Summit, Hailey and Jake were married at Villa Eyrie Resort. As planned by Elyse & Co. Events and photographed by Jess Mclaren Photography, the couple envisioned a wedding that reflected their intimate connection and cherished relationships. Ultimately, they desired a celebration that would bring their closest loved ones together in a serene and exquisite setting. “We originally started planning a big wedding with 200+ guests in North Vancouver. We had a venue secured and everything in place, but something always felt a little off. Then, one night Jake came across a TikTok of Villa Eyrie Resort and the view of the Saanich Inlet where they hold small ceremonies. We decided to reach out and simply ask if they had our set date available to get married and decided that if they did it would be a sign that it was meant to be! Sure enough, that day was open,” Hailey shares.

Alex and Dylan’s story began when their friends brought them together at a bar. Dylan’s friend had taken an interest in Alex’s friend, sparking the initial connection. Weeks later, the group decided to go out together, and they found themselves enjoying each other’s company. This laid the foundation for their friendship, which continued to grow over the next year. Throughout that year, Alex and Dylan couldn’t help but feel a strong chemistry between them. Finally, after a year of nurturing their friendship, the duo decided to take a leap of faith and pursue a romantic relationship. Fast forward three years and the couple found themselves in Croatia, on the picturesque island of Korcula complete with cobbled streets, crowd-free beaches and coves, and acres of olive groves and vineyards. It was a memorable day as they embarked on a biking adventure, only to encounter two flat tires along the way. Their misfortune led them to a small winery where they indulged in a delightful combination of wine and cheese for lunch. As the day unfolded, Dylan’s desire to cool off led him to suggest a swim. With Alex holding their belongings, including an unknown diamond ring concealed within her fanny pack, Dylan leaped off a dock into the ocean. After refreshing himself in the water, Dylan climbed back onto the surface. What appeared to be a joke quickly turned serious as he got down on one knee. Alex caught off guard, couldn’t resist bursting into laughter at first. However, her laughter turned to surprise as Dylan reached for the ring she had been safeguarding in her fanny pack.

As Anna lifted one of the traps, she discovered something unexpected — a wooden heart with the words “Marry Me” intricately carved into it. Astonished by the enchanting find, Anna turned around, only to find Jordan standing there, holding a ring in his hand. Overwhelmed with surprise and joy, Anna later described it as one of the best moments of their lives. samantha & josh While Samantha and Josh officially met on Tinder, unbeknownst to them they had grown up in the same area. Josh was home visiting his parents during the holidays when he decided to give the dating app a try. Meanwhile, Samantha’s sister playfully downloaded the app for her during their family Christmas party, and began swiping on her behalf. Serendipitously, Samantha and Josh matched and started texting. However, when the time came for their first date, Samantha’s nerves got the best of her, and she stood Josh up. Fearful of meeting someone from a dating app, she hesitated. But their connection persisted, and the two continued talking. Finally, Samantha mustered the courage to meet Josh in person and they went on a date later that week. Six years passed, when Josh proposed on a 150-acre working farm where Samantha serves as the executive director. Early in the morning, Josh secretly visited the farm and arranged flowers and candles in one of the greenhouses. It was there that he got down on one knee and popped the question. After an eight month engagement, the couple wed at the summit of the Banff Gondola with 360 degree snow-capped mountain views.

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow upon the reception, the atmosphere becomes an enchanting golden hour celebration. Pops of colourful arrangements styled with ceramic plateware, indigo linens and contemporary touches complement the countryside aesthetic wonderfully. The centrepiece of the evening is a cake that seemed to be plucked from a garden party soirée. Kakes by Kathie designed a delicious vanilla bean cake with raspberry cream filling adorned with delicate florals and butterflies fluttering about.
