BEST CAR WASH

Goo Goo Express Wash 1040 N. Broad Street, Rome 706-204-8715 googooexpresswash.com Goo Goo Express Car Wash has been open for around a year on North Broad, and employs 15 workers at this location. The Rome location is one of 39 nationwide, and strives to provide an “incredible car wash experience to everyone, according to owner and president Brian Dulaney, who is a third generation car wash owner. “The industry has changed and evolved since 1945 based on technology, economy, and the work force. This is an end result of 69 years in the car wash business, says Dulaney. Goo Goo offers the latest the car wash industry has to offer in wash technology, from soap blends & polymers to computer technology. “We have a 100% clean car guarantee, says Dulaney. The biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner – according to Dulaney – has been “Government red tape. What Dulaney enjoys most about the car wash business is being able to take part in community service and charitable fundraisers through his business. Goo Goo Express Car Wash is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Saturday, and 11:00am to 7:00pm on Sunday.

BEST ORTHODONTIST

Pridemore & Cox Orthodontics 23 John Maddox Drive NW 706-234-0877 www.smilewithpride.com At Pridemore & Cox they strive to help people live life smiling with award winning, board certified orthodontics. Dr. Pridemore began practice in Rome over 40 years ago and has perfected over 25,000 smiles in his career. To help continue the legacy of excellent service and care, he added Dr. Cox to his practice in 2012. Dr. Pridemore describes Dr. Cox as an orthodontist that possesses “God-given” talent that takes many orthodontists years to learn. He says that Dr. Cox has been one of the few people he has ever met that has been truly focused on orthodontics. At the age of thirteen, after finishing his own treatment, Dr. Cox decided that this was the career for him and took the next 16 years making it happen. Not only did he make it happen, but he is one of the youngest orthodontists in the country to become ‘Board Certified’. This is a quality that takes most orthodontists over ten years to accomplish and is something you definitely want to look for in the person providing your treatment. He has also published two articles in the orthodontic literature, has been asked to be adjunct faculty at the UAB orthodontic department, and goes above and beyond with continuing education hours. Dr. Pridemore states, that although I only work part time, you can be assured that the quality of treatment at this office has remained exceptional. Dr. Pridemore has lived in the Rome area for over 40 years and has become a well-respected asset to our community. Dr. Cox joined Dr. Pridemore to continue a legacy of engineering the most stable, long lasting, and beautiful smiles in North West Georgia. Dr. Cox states that his family fell in love with Rome when they first visited. They feel that the sense of community is strong here, and they look forward to raising their kids in a place that is so welcoming and friendly. “I believe that what makes our practice unique is the approach we take to orthodontic treatment” says Dr. Cox. “Although the American Association of Orthodontists and our practice strongly recommend an orthodontic consult by age 7, it is rare that treatment is necessary at that age. In fact, almost 80% of children can be treated in a single phase of braces once they have all of their adult teeth. As husbands, fathers, and a grandfather (in Dr. P’s case), we want to treat all of our patients as we would our family. We believe what makes us most unique is our strong belief in Christian family values and our dedication to portraying that in our everyday lives. We strive to provide excellent orthodontic care while also giving back to the community that we serve and live in.” Pridemore & Cox Orthodontics is open Monday – Thursday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

BEST NIGHT SPOT / ENTERTAINMENT BEST BURGER (INDEPENDENT)

The Brewhouse 325 Broad Street 706-204-8474 www.romebrewhouse.com The Brewhouse Music & Grill officially opened its doors on September 15th, 2012 and is honored to be in such a historic building in downtown Rome. The original intent for the Broad Street property the Brewhouse now occupies was built in the 1800s was to hold music and events. The original structure that stood here was called the Opera House and was built in 1880 by Mr. M.A. Nevin. The Opera House was the principal center for entertainment ranging from Dresden, Boston, and New York symphonies to local productions. The Opera House was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours of Dec. 31, 1919. The building was re-built in 1920 by Ike May and still today is called the May Building. The locals have talked about the Super D that was here for many years. Super D was open during the 60’s through the 80’s and was owned by a man named Paul Frambro. Before then it was Allen’s 5 and 10 Store in the 50’s. You can see the pic here of the old Super D store and some of you may have great memories pop up from years past visiting here. Since opening in 2012 the Brewhouse Music & Grill quickly became the spot for live music, burgers, wings, and ribeyes. Not to mention college football. The Brewhouse Music & Grill is your one stop for food, fun, and music! Sit back and enjoy dinner while tapping your feet to the music. “We are excited that this building is once again the principal center for music and entertainment where it belongs on Broad Street. We have been very fortunate to bring some of the biggest names in music since opening” says owner Jay Shell. Whether you are enjoying dinner with your family, watching your favorite team on the tvs, or listening to your favorite band here on stage, we hope you enjoy the laid back atmosphere, great food, and live music. The Brewhouse is open Monday through Sunday from 11:00am – 10:00pm.

BEST YOGA/PILATES STUDIO

Healing Arts Center of Rome 215 Broad Street, Rome 706-331-4631 www.HACRome.com Healing Arts Center of Rome is “ Northwest Georgia’s Heart of Complementary Medicine” according to owner and Yoga Therapist Beth Novian Hughes. They provide integrative medicine services and modalities including Yoga Therapy, Acupuncture, Wellness Coaching, Therapeutic Touch, Massage, and Chiropractic. HACR also has classes in Belly Dancing and a Mommy & Me play program. Hughes started this business because she wanted to “provide a collaborative one stop shop for Northwest Georgia. At the time there was no degreed acupuncture in Rome at all. We now have brought that to the town! And so much more. “ Hughes says that HACR is unique due to being “the only full service one stop shop for integrative health services in Northwest Georgia. Most of our providers are degreed in their modality.” Educating the Rome community on the difference between yoga and yoga therapy has been Photo credit to Healther Perkins of Ginger Hughes most interesting challenge. She explains “Yoga therapy is typically conducted one-on-one Snaps Photography. Instructor Beth Novian or in small groups. Often, a session more closely resembles an appointment with a physical Hughes and client Bethany Clayton. therapist or rehabilitation specialist than it does a typical yoga class. That healing modality is set apart from others by the focus on linking movement to deep, rhythmic breathing. Another difference is the emphasis on relaxation…. Yoga therapy is based on a view of the individual as a wholeness. For true health to occur, all aspects of a person must be addressed as a whole through the five sheathes: The physical body, the energetic body (breath), the emotions, the thoughts, and the spirit, if desired. “ Hughes adds she is working on a Master’s degree in Yoga Therapy. She is in the first cohort of the first degree which is only offered at one school www.MUIH.edu.” She is currently in clinical training and prepared to work one on one. Hughes also said “Thank YOU so much for voting for us! Our 1st class is always free but mention you saw it here and get a 2nd class free promo code 2 as our thank you for your votes. We are closed on Sunday + as well. (PS our back door is actually our front door).” For more information call 706-331-4631.

BEST GIFT SHOP

Living & Giving 401 Broad Street 706-235-5530 www.livingandgivingrome.com Living & Giving is a home, garden and gift shop. Their purpose is to provide an over the top, inviting and creative environment for their customers to shop in, and to provide excellent service. The store is creatively merchandised and located in one of downtown’s restored buildings featuring brick walls, tin ceilings and hardwood floors. They have a great mix of indoor plants and orchids, garden containers, porcelain cachetpots, mossy Tuscan clay pots, birdbaths, fountains, French soaps and lotions, original art and botanical prints, Caldrea and Thymes home fragrances, decorative accessories, lamps, pillows, books, gourmet food, jewelry, handbags and more. “I’m a retail addict,” said owner Lis Landry. “I have a background in visual merchandising and buying, store planning and fixture design, advertising and marketing, retail store management and sales. I’ve owned 2 clothing stores in Clearwater Florida and Dylons Antiques & Gifts in St. Petersburg Florida. My husband has a retail background too. He was the owner of MVP Sports in Boston Massachusetts and J. August Company in Cambridge. I guess we’re both retail veterans! I’ve enjoyed working in the retail business my entire career and I never forget what it’s like to be the customer!” Ira Levy and his wife Libby renovated the historic building. It was once Sturchi’s Furniture Store and one of the more unique buildings downtown. Living & Giving was the first retail store to make its home there and their customers have been excited to see how beautifully the building was restored. “We started Living & Giving when we moved to Rome from Florida in 2006. So many shopping needs were not being filled by downtown merchants. Our Realtor, Mimi Richards introduced me to Beth Bradford and she suggested a small gift shop that sold orchids. We certainly expanded on that over the years! So many factors make us unique! Our employees first and foremost! I have the most incredible staff of women working for me. We all make each other look good! Our customer service is special. You need to come in to experience it.” Living & Giving is open Monday through Friday 10:00am-6:00pm and Saturday from 11:00am-5:00pm.

BEST RIBS

Shane’s Rib Shack 315 Riverside Pkwy 706-291-6062 www.shanesribshack.com/rome Shane’s Rib Shack in Rome, Ga is an American fast casual BBQ franchise, serving slow-cooked baby back ribs, hand-chopped chicken and pork, and tasty Southern style side dishes. The appeal of serving top-notch BBQ and Southern dishes really appealed to the owner – Shane’s is a fabulous concept and this restaurant, in particular, is very much a part of the community; which was important. What started in a tiny little shack outside Atlanta in McDonough, Georgia has grown to become the model of fast casual BBQ. Founder Shane Thompson quit his neck-tie-wearing corporate job, dusted off his grandfather’s secret sauce recipe and along with the support of wife Stacey, made his dream of owning a family BBQ restaurant come true. It’s a very home-grown brand. Mark Monroe, their owner, is an accomplished entrepreneur who started, grew, and sold his first retail business in 2006. Mark was named to Georgia Trend Magazine’s “40 under 40” in 2003 and was named to Catalyst Magazine’s Top 50 Entrepreneurs in Georgia in 2002. Mark then started Sterling Restaurant Group, LLC in 2009. Within Sterling, we now have 19 Moe’s Southwest Grills and 1 Shane’s Rib Shack - and they continue to grow! They enjoy getting to help the community in a variety of ways; like partnering with the schools and helping non-profits raise necessary funds. “We are always trying to find new ways to engage our wonderful guests. We always want them to receive excellent service so we try to stay on top of our game in this area,” says Shane’s Marketing Director Julie Galich. “We have really enjoyed the Rome community. Having stores in all of Georgia and Alabama we’ve found Rome to have a real appeal that is completely unique. There is a greater sense of family and community connectedness that fits perfectly with our company values.” Shane’s is open Monday through Sunday 11:00am-9:00pm.

Owner Ginny Kibler has used her background of restaurant management, bakery management, catering, and culinary school to meet the challenge to “stay ahead of the game, to continue to improve, stay fresh with new offerings but to keep favorites and recognize how to best effect change.” She enjoys meeting people and finds that “In this business every day is different and what you thought you’d spend your day doing usually doesn’t happen. Look for the new Bar “Dark Side of the Moon” and new event space which will be located next door to the Harvest Moon. I am attached to Elrod’s Glass because my dad, Cecil Kight, owned the Dari-Delite that was located directly across from Elrod’s and I grew up with Mr. and Mrs. Elrod. After I sold Vend-Rite, I heard Elrod’s was available and I jumped at the opportunity to continue the legacy started by Mr and Mrs. Elrod.” “I love meeting the people and offering a service to the Northwest Georgia Community. I think Rome is a wonderful area to live and I love being a part of this thriving city,” said Knight. “The biggest obstacle for me has been learning all of the unique facets of glass and mirror. BEST ROOFING COMPANY

Midian Roofing 3945 Alabama Hwy S.W., Rome 706-232-3085 www.midianroofing.com “We do roofing above everything else, if we don’t know how to install a particular system we will learn it” says T.K Hamilton, the President of Midian Roofing. As for his background, Hamilton said he came through the “School of hard knocks and lots of prayer”. He has been in the business for 26 years and “started this business after seeking Gods will for my life and He let me know that this was my calling in life. I understand that people’s radars go off when someone mentions God or Jesus but if anybody knows me or my past life they would know that I am not smart enough to run a multi-Million dollar business without the guidance of the Almighty Creator.” He also feels God has given him wisdom about business above his “wildest dreams” and that God has guided him through some troubling times in business and caused him to avoid some other troubles in business. Hamilton offers “If you don’t believe in God or His help feel free to call me and I can share my experiences with you. I don’t claim to know everything about God but I do know He is real!” At Midian Roofing they recognize that they make mistakes in business, just like all other businesses, but they “believe the very thing that make us different is the fact that we put systems in place so we don’t make as many mistakes as other businesses in our industry and the fact that we inspect, inspect, inspect and re-inspect all products and workmanship.” They also have and maintain real warranties. The most enjoyable aspect of the business is “People hands down. We love to love on our employees, teach, train and mentor them not only about work but also life.” And the biggest challenge in the business is cash flow, specifically getting large corporate accounts to pay quickly. “If I could share anything with the readers it would be thank you for supporting us as a company. When you support us the money is well spent on taking care of family’s in and outside of our company, and we support quite a few charities and church families. We believe in the family! Midian Roofing serves Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee. The Home office is located at 3945 Alabama Hwy S.W. Rome, GA 30165. United Community Bank Rome: 307 E. Second Ave West Rome: 2436 Shorter Ave Mount Berry: 2760 Martha Berry Highway Cave Spring: 15 Cedartown St. 706-234-5800 www.ucbi.com/ Steve Kemp, Regional President; David Johnson, Floyd County President 307 E. Second Ave. Four locations in Rome and Floyd County. Home office phone 706-234-5800. The bank grew from the old Bank of Cave Spring, Home Federal Savings and Loan. First Floyd Bank and became a part of UCBI in 1998. United Community Bank leaders are quick to point to their employees as the reason for the bank’s success in the Rome market “It’s pretty simple, our people,” said Kemp, regional president. “It’s not anything we do to train them. “We have a very experienced staff who have our customer’s best interest at heart” “It’s a lot like the Golden Rule,” Johnson said. “You’ll treat your customers like you’d want to be treated if you were a customer. Johnson said that when it comes to mortgage lending, United Community Bank has seasoned veterans devoted strictly to residential mortgage lending. “They have experience, a desire to wait on customers and we try to make it as easy as possible for customers,” Johnson said. United Community has also been a major player in construction lending the Rome area for the past decade. “When a person walks in and wants to talk about a home loan we can put them into one of our in-house products or we can get them into the secondary market. We do what’s best for the individual customer,” Johnson said.

BEST PHARMACY

Winslette Pharmacy 2444 Shorter Avenue 706-290-0300 Winslette Pharmacy provides medication and information to assist physicians with the overall healthcare of their patients. Keith Winslette has been a pharmacist for over 34 years, working with several chain pharmacies, hospital pharmacists and the last 18 years owning, and operating Winslette Pharmacy. “I started the business to accommodate our patients in a friendly and personal way,” Winslette says. “It also gave myself and my employees some time to be with our families at night and Sunday’s, while being available to serve our patients. We put forth the utmost effort to know our customers and take care of their needs like we like to be treated with courtesy and respect. We enjoy being a part of the healthcare team to promote the health of our patients, as well as, getting to know them and their families.” Winslette Pharmacy finds that the biggest challenge for their business in today’s market is finding their place as an independent pharmacy while competing with large chains in a fair and transparent way. “We are very thankful and appreciative to all our customers and employees, and are blessed by the opportunities we have to work with them,” Winslette stated. “We work hard to earn our customer’s business, and are humbled that our customers choose us. Ultimately we give The Lord all the credit for the success of our business.” Winslette Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-7:00pm and Saturday 9:00am-3:00pm.

BEST GROCERY STORE

Kroger 1476 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome 706-290-8039 www.Kroger.com Kroger has been in the Rome community for 57 years, and for the seventh year in a row has been named the area’s favorite grocery store by the readers of the Rome News-Tribune. The store is located in the Riverbend Shopping Center and has undergone significant expansions and remodels to meet the needs of their customers. Manager Steve Van Meter said that the Rome store is a perfect reflection of the wants and needs of local customers. “We focus on taking care of our customers and associates at a very high level; that is our main goal,” said Van Meter. He said that if the company can keep its associates happy, that in turn, the associates would keep the customers happy. “We intend to satisfy every customer that walks through the door,” Van Meter said. Van Meter, who has been the manager of Kroger stores in Rome for 19 years, said that he is in the people business. “The employees are great. We’ve got a great team here, and I love the customers. I’ve known many of them for many years,” Van Meter said. “They are truly great for Kroger.” The store manager said that all the services the store provides, from the cheese section to the bakery, the meat and seafood to fresh produce and pharmacy, are designed to provide the best service to its customers each and every day.”
