From the President In times of great political and social division, the capacity to see others' viewpoints and assess one's own becomes imperative to a successful and meaningful life. A true liberal arts education enables students to see beyond any individual perspective, encouraging the understanding of a wide range of opinions. At Rocky Mountain College, we offer our students a comprehensive and practical approach to the liberal arts model, which I believe produces well-rounded future leaders who think critically about the world they live in. A liberal arts curriculum offers RMC students a different lens through which to view and interpret the ever-changing world around them. It is our duty to educate the student as a whole person, both inside and outside of the classroom, and to prepare them to make bold decisions that are right for themselves and for their community. Rocky Mountain College embraces its responsiblity to contribute to the health and strength of the community socially, economically, and politically. Throughout this issue of Green & Gold, you will find examples of faculty, staff, and students who have dedicated themselves to these goals. The Health and Human Performance Department has made great strides toward developing the most comprehensive health screening lab in the state (page 14). Our international programming—under the direction of Amber West Martin—is cultivating new and diverse ways of thinking through global cultures (page 7). The initiatives of Jill Washburn are making the transition from military service to college better for our veterans (page 26). Chaplain Kim Woeste has built a framework by which our students are engaging in faithdriven service that simultaneously reinforces our commitment to transformative education of the whole person and growth through stewardship (page 29). Meanwhile, our student-athletes are competing at the highest levels, winning national championships and All-American honors in their sports and academics; our football team played its first season on the brand new Herb Klindt Field last fall, the completion of which was the first major step in the College's impACT Today, Transform Tomorrow capital campaign (page 11); and the College has partnered with Visit Billings to bring the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament to Montana for at least the next two years (page 22). This wide range of successes is not coincidence. We are able to accomplish these great things for our school, for our students, and for our community because of our dedication to liberal arts and because we never cease to strive for something greater. On behalf of Rocky Mountain College, thank you for your commitment to making this possible. Respectfully,

Dr. Robert Wilmouth Rocky Mountain College President

Board of Trustees

Walker to Follow Kastelitz as Chairman of RMC Board At the start of the new fiscal year this July, the Rocky Mountain College Board of Trustees will have a new chairman. Rod Kastelitz (Class of 1991) will step down from the post he has held for the last two years, and his good friend—and fellow RMC alumnus—Mike Walker (Class of 1991) will take his place. "It has been a great honor to serve as the Chairman of the Board," said Kastelitz, who also serves as the Executive Vice President of Sales for EBMS, where he has worked since graduating from RMC. "There are so many great things happening at RMC and I am grateful that I was able to help advance the vision of the College" "Our Board of Trustees dedicates an unbelievable amount of time and energy toward ensuring the College’s success. I look forward to continuing my work on the Board under the leadership of Chairman-elect Walker." 6 Rocky Mountain College

The transition is certain to be smooth. Both Kastelitz and Walker were elected the Board of Trustees in 2010, nineteen years following their graduation from the College. Both competed as Battlin' Bears under then Men’s Head Basketball Coach Jeff Malby, who now holds the position of Assistant Athletic Director. Walker also served for three years as the Commissioner of the Frontier Conference. With nearly three decades of experience as members of the RMC community, Kastelitz and Walker are committed to demonstrating the importance of alumni giving back and staying engaged with their alma mater. "It is imperative that we afford current and future students the same opportunities we were given at Rocky" Kastelitz said. "There are many ways to stay involved at Rocky Mountain College without providing financial gifts. I would encourage

all alumni to get involved. It is an extremely gratifying experience when you help students to succeed. I am proud to be an alum, and I look forward to the future of RMC." Walker, who is Principal and Business Manager for NAI Business Properties, where he has worked since 1994, is eager to take on this new role for the College. "Chairman Kastelitz has done an outstanding job as board chairman over the past two years," Walker said. "The board is very thankful for his leadership and guidance, and I am fortunate to take over at a time when the College is doing so well with its growth and community connection. Rod has laid out a successful blueprint for me to follow to continue the advancement of the institution and growth for Rocky Mountain College."

Liberal Arts International Week Highlights Global Programming Since her arrival at Rocky Mountain College in 2011, Amber West Martin has developed the Office of International Programs (OIP) into a central intersection between academics and student life. Not only does OIP assist international students with their acculturation to life as a student in the United States; it assists domestic students in the pursuit of study abroad opportunities and collaborates with faculty to provide a variety of international academic programs. West Martin's impact has been immediate and powerful, and it is perhaps best demonstrated through her largest annual project, International Week. STUDY ABROAD The Office of International Programs belongs to a worldwide network of colleges and universities, equipping the College with the ability to offer a range of possibilities to students interested in studying abroad. These efforts have generated direct exchange agreements with universities in England, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, and Sweden. Forty individual students have completed study abroad experiences since West Martin joined Rocky Mountain College in 2011. In her capacity as Director of International Programs, West Martin works closely with each student who comes into her office, ensuring the best fit for study abroad opportunities. This involves multiple meetings and collaborating 8 Rocky Mountain College

with the student’s faculty advisor. RMC students have studied in Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Japan, China, Australia, Northern Ireland, England, Sweden, Finland, Thailand, and Morocco, among other countries. "Living somewhere with a different culture and language forced me to leave my comfort zone and immerse myself into something completely new and different," said senior history and political science student Molly Davis, who completed a study abroad program at Högskolan Väst in Trollhättan, Sweden, during her sophomore year. "Studying abroad was the best decision I made in college and I would urge everyone to go while they still can."

GOING GLOBAL Student interest in courses abroad has increased substantially on a national level and RMC students are no different. Over the last five years, more than 100 students have participated in faculty-led courses abroad. RMC students have multiple opportunities to travel abroad either individually or with a class. Shelby Jo Long-Hammond has taken the Debate Team around the world, including Greece and Ireland in the last two years, and has taken multiple groups of students to Ireland through her Irish Protest course. "When students have the opportunity

to debate people from other cultures, it adds a different dimension to the activity of debate," Long-Hammond said of her recent debate trip to Ireland. "There is a cultural awareness and understanding that becomes an experience that transcends the policy discussion that typically happens in a debate round. The Debate Team engaged in discussions with students from twelve different countries at the Trinity College tournament. This style of debate is transformative in nature." Karen Beiser and Precious McKenzie have collaborated to take business and professional writing students to England and Ireland. Mark Moak and Jim Baken have taken students to Italy for a semester to study art, history, and language. Lucas Ward and Kayhan Ostovar have taken environmental science students to Peru, Costa Rica, Tanzania, and the Canadian Arctic. This year, several groups are traveling abroad. Shelby-Jo Long Hammond and Precious McKenzie are collaborating to bring students to the United Kingdom in May to study British Romantic Literature and Ireland to study Irish Protest. Karen Beiser will also be traveling in May, to take students to Germany to study business. Kayhan Ostovar is leading environmental science students on a trip to Tanzania in July. In the fall semester, the Art Department will be guiding up to fourteen students on a trip to Italy from September 24 through November 16. Students will begin at the Villa Pieve with Italian language and art history classes, then move on to Florence and Rome for a two-week art history encounter, led and taught by Professor Mark Moak. After two weeks of touring, the program returns to the Villa Pieve near Perugia, in the heart of Italy, where students will continue to learn Italian from local instructor, Catia Melani, and will record and post their experiences in a blog. Additionally, students will take courses in drawing and travel photography. Professor Jim Baken will teach Drawing I and II and Dave Shumway, adjunct professor of photography, will teach digital photography and travel

photography. "Why should students study art history abroad? As far as the art goes, they can see it in context," said Moak. "Pictures in the classroom is one thing; being there is another thing entirely. In Rome, students can be overpowered by the colossal portrait of the emperor Constantine on the Capitoline and then walk to the Borghese and stand in awe at Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne. Or survey Florence from atop the Dome of Florence Cathedral and then walk a block and weep in front of Donatello’s Mary Magdalene." "But it’s not just about experiencing art. In our Semester in Italy Program, I have witnessed students stepping out of

their comfort zones and experiencing a different culture far from home," he added. "I have seen them building camaraderie with classmates who become colleagues and life-long friends, and I have watched the transformation of young people into confident citizens of the world. I believe in the benefits of studying abroad for our students and feel so blessed that we have the chance to lead them. After all, these are our future leaders." INTERNATIONAL WEEK This March, Rocky Mountain College celebrates its fourth annual International Week, a series of events sponsored Green & Gold 9

Flavya Siqueira Home Country: Brazil Anticipated Graduation: May 2018 Majors: History, Political Science Minors: Business Management and Pre-Law On choosing RMC... I learned about Rocky when an admissions counselor visited my high school in Roberts, Montana, a small town near Red Lodge, where I was a foreign exchange student in 2013. The exchange program let the host family choose the student, so I like to say that Montana chose me. On clubs and activities... I participate in the Debate Team, Students for a Sensible Drug Policy, and Young Students for Liberty. I also work for the International Programs Office. On working with The Fund for American Studies... My academic advisor, Dr. Matthew O'Gara, nominated me and helped me apply for The Fund for American Studies' Capital Semester Program in Washington, D.C., which included 30 students who were given the opportunity to intern with some of the most influencial organizations and offices in the country. I was an intern for the Embassy of Brazil, while also taking classes at George Washington University through a partnership with the University's Economics department. On her future... I have a one-year work visa for after I graduate, I would like to get involved in political lobbying or public relations while I am in the U.S. 10 Rocky Mountain College

and organized by the Office of International Programs and a number of other collaborators across campus. "Each office or program has an interest in internationality," said West Martin. "If I am to accomplish a large program like International Week and have a great impact across campus, I have to involve everyone, every office I can on campus. It makes us all better at what we can and want to do." Prior to the first International Week in 2014, the Office of International Programs coordinated several yearly International Dinner events, in which international students would hang flags from their home countries in the dining hall, submit recipes for traditional meals, and assist with the preparation of the dinner for their fellow students. Since joining RMC in 2011, West Martin has sought to expand not only the inclusiveness of international students and cultures into the Rocky community, but also to expand their representation within the student body. One of her first tasks was to address the declining interest in the International Dinner. Several international students worked with West Martin to come up with events that would interest the broader student body. The feedback she received led West Martin to establish week-long international-themed programming with a more comprehensive and conversational approach to replace the one-night dinner event. The first iteration of International Week focused on live music and other performances; an "International Coffee House;" outdoor recreation, such as rugby and cricket; and themed dinners that showcased the cuisine of a new country each night. International Week was an immediate success. Two of the dinners were open to all Rocky students and the foods offered were customary to the countries that made up the College’s international student population. The International Coffee House was packed, offering a variety of international beverages-boba tea, Thai lattes, papaya lassis, and frescas-as well as desserts, all free of charge. Students also attended a performance by Palestinian comedian Mo Amer, whose routine emphasizes a number of Middle-Eastern issues. The program has only strengthened since its first year. In 2016, International Week included a Soap Box Speaker Series, which provided opportunities for staff and faculty to get on the Soap Box and discuss matters close to their hearts within a global context. Topics included "Irish Protest," "The U.S. is the Best: Opportunities Here You Won’t Get There," "Discriminatory Names for Women and Muslims Around the World," and many more. This year’s International Week will include staff, faculty, and students on the Soap Box. 2017 INTERNATIONAL WEEK SCHEDULE This year's events will kick off with Irish-themed programming on Friday, March 17. There will be an Irish/English Wheel of Facts, tennis polo will be played on the RMC Green, and a Soap Box Speaker. March 18 will be Asianthemed, with Jian-zi (a shuttlecock sport) on the Green

and karaoke in the evening. The weekend will wrap up with a celebration of Africa on Sunday. The College community can participate in basket weaving and the playing of ga-ga (a dodgeball-like game played in an octoganal space) on the Green. Monday, March 20, showcases Germany and features rugby, Game Night in the library, and a Soap Box Speaker. TieDiversity will also be held in the Bair Family Student Center. Tuesday returns to the Ireland theme and will include archery tag on the Green, a Coffee & Conversation event, and an additional Soap Box Speaker. Wednesday brings Polynesian culture into focus. There will be limbo and a luau in the Student Center during lunch and a Soapbox Speaker in the evening. Thursday introduces French culture and issues to the campus, with French desserts being served in the Student Center, capture the flag being played on the Green, and a Soap Box Speaker in the evening. The English Department will also host an open mic poetry night in Fraley Lounge. The final day is dedicated to Latin cultures, headlined by the Grand Fiesta, featuring a performance by John Roberts y Pan Blanco on the RMC Green at 6:30 p.m. Each day's theme features a special dinner, prepared by

Sodexo, that incorporates cultural recipes from the country or region being celebrated. The international dinners, held in McDonald Commons, are free to all members of the RMC community on Friday, March 17 (Irish); Wednesday, March 22 (Luau); and Friday, March 24 (Latin). ABOUT THE POSTER Each year's International Week poster is designed by Maria Isabel Bonilla Uribe (Class of 2015), an alum from Colombia. This year’s poster (pictured above) has taken on the theme of the Hawaiian goddess Papa, who has the power to give life and to heal. In Uribe's illustration, Papa is blowing life into International Week and the countries represented on campus.

Upgrades Bring New Opportunities to RMC Rocky Mountain College formally launched the public phase of its impACT Today, Transform Tomorrow capital campaign on November 14, 2015. This $21 million capital campaign includes $17 million to build a new science building and renovate the existing science building, $2 million for an operations and maintenance endowment for the science building, and $2 million for enhancements to the Herb Klindt Field. The enhancements to Klindt Field began with the official impACT Today, Transform Tomorrow Groundbreaking Ceremony (pictured above) on April 9, 2016, and were completed the following August. The enhancements included stabilization of the bowl; field replacement, which allows student athletes to use the field for games and also as a year-round practice field and reduces the risk of injuries; the addition of stadium lights, allowing for a partnership with Billings Central Catholic to host Friday night games on the RMC cam12 Rocky Mountain College

pus; and iron fencing and stone entry way. The Opening Ceremony (pictured top-right) for the new Herb Klindt Field took place on September 10, 2016, when the Battlin' Bears defeated Frontier Conference Rival Carroll College 21-20. Construction on Phase I of the new science building began in September and includes building a new $8.9 million, three-story, 32,972 square-foot science building. The completion of this first phase is estimated for January 2018. Phase II of the project will include renovating the existing Bair Science building and is scheduled to begin in Spring 2018 with completion projected for Fall 2019. The project will establish research spaces in every discipline of the natural sciences. Having dedicated teaching spaces allows faculty to create learning environments that meet the needs of a growing student body and help accelerate lab-based science instruction to a new level. Upgraded systems will also enhance opportunities for interde-

partmental collaboration and improve technology that will allow RMC faculty to employ the very best instructional practices. Due to a lack of space, there have been very few non-science classes taught in the current science facilities. However, the new science center will open doors to other disciplines, throughout the liberal arts, by sharing similar spaces, including those involving the environmental sciences. Through this building project, the original structure’s 25,000 square feet will be fully renovated and repurposed. The upgraded facility will allow the College to expand its outstanding Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, incorporate much-needed general instructional space, and provide laboratory space for the physics and geology departments. The new addition will be comprised of state-of-the-art laboratories for the biology, chemistry, and environmental science programs. This additional space also allows for the

expansion of the Health and Human Performance (HHP) program, which is one of the College’s largest disciplines. Every student at Rocky Mountain College studies the natural sciences and will benefit from these new facilities. Every student, regardless of major, will study in these new, state-of-the-art learning environments. The plans will include adding laboratory space, classrooms, and offices that reflect a modern interpretation of the campus’ historic aesthetics. A short walk across campus, Losekamp Hall welcomed the addition of the music department’s new Yamaha NU1 hybrid piano lab (pictured bottom-right). The nine digital/acoustic pianos combine a superb upright action-featured in Yamaha’s higher-end upright pianos-with the lush sound sampled from the finest hand-built Yamaha instrument, the CFX concert grand piano. Since the NU1 creates sound digitally and can be interconnected to other Yamaha hybrid pianos via audio outputs, a teacher can instruct from one instrument while interacting with many students at once, each of them learning in the privacy of their individual headphones. "I am very impressed with the NU1 because of its sound quality and am excited to be able to teach in a group learning environment where I can have all the students play at once, by themselves, or in small groups to utilize a full range of teaching pedagogies," said Dr. Jen Bratz, associate professor of music. "Since we’re a small school with limited resources, the opportunity to have a high-level instrument that doesn’t need to be tuned was a clear deciding factor." For Rocky Mountain College music students, the NU1 piano lab represents a significant improvement over the 66-key digital keyboards that had been the mainstay of music instruction at the school prior to this upgrade. A fundraising campaign culminating with a solo piano concert by Montana native Philip Aaberg, a Grammy-nominated pianist and composer who gained international recognition for his Windham Hill releases, helped make this improvement possible. RMC Health

Rocky Puts Community First with New HHP Tech The health and human performance (HHP) sector has transformed itself into a proactive body over the last twenty years. Instead of waiting for an injury to occur, HHP specialists are working with athletes to prevent the causes of most common injuries. No longer are experts in the field waiting for causes in order to find the proper effects; rather, they seek precursor causes to generate the desired effects.

"We believe that education is the greatest motivator to affect behavior. However, appropriately understood and applied education is not always easy to come by in a time of informational overload." "Our vision for HHP at Rocky is to create a wellness-centered campus unlike any other in the state, with an emphasized dedication to supporting the complete health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and community."

HEALTH IS BEHAVIOR

BUILDING THE LAB

This proactive and collaborative approach is the driving force behind the initiatives of Rocky Mountain College's Health and Human Performance program, including the development of the new HHP lab located in the Fortin Education Center. "Health is behavior," said Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance Nich Pertuit.

In an effort primarily spearheaded by Pertuit, the Health and Human Performance department has worked toward developing the most comprehensive health screening lab in the state. Thanks to grant funding provided by the Charles M. Bair Family Trust last summer, the department was able to lay the foundation of its lab with two key

14 Rocky Mountain College

pieces of cutting-edge technology: the Fit 3-D Pro Body Scanner (pictured next page, bottom) and the InBody 770 Body Composition Analyzer (pictured above). Rocky Mountain College now boasts the only lab in the state with the Fit 3-D Pro Body Scanner, and, combined with the InBody 770, students and faculty are now able to collect extensive health measurements both outside and inside the body, creating a wide variety of new ways of learning through handson methods. The Fit 3-D Pro Scanner is an innovative body scanner that captures a three-dimensional, 360-degree image of the human body and extracts the most commonly used measurements tracked for fitness. In only 40 seconds, the scanner creates a full-body avatar of the human subject and automatically compiles over 450 body measurements, including circumference measurements of the neck, chest, biceps, forearms,

waist, hips, thighs, and calves, so that users can visualize and quantitatively track health progress. This equipment is being used beyond the tracking of anthropomorphic changes for those looking at how their body adjusts to health and fitness routines; it also visually demonstrates how asymmetries in limbs can lead to injuries in the sport setting. "In less than one minute, the Fit 3-D creates an avatar that is an objective image of the user," Pertuit said. "To see the shape of your avatar change, and exactly where on your body those changes are coming from, is more motivating than just tracking numbers on a scale." The InBody 770 is among the most accurate body composition analyzing equipment in the world. It measures body fat percent, lean muscle mass, visceral fat, basal metabolism, total body water, segmental mass measurements, and intra-cellular versus extra-cellular water content for every limb. The overall purposes of this lab are to research and promote interventions and strategies that would improve overall health, fitness, and wellness, as well as prevention of injuries; provide the community access to affordable, state-of-the-art fitness assessments, health information, and individualized exercise recommendations to improve their condition, and reduce chronic pain and disease risk; enhance sports performance and athletic achievement through testing for sport-specific physical characteristics and developing personalized training recommendations based on the results; and enrich student learning by providing unique opportunities to participate firsthand in comprehensive evidence-based practices and research. The lab is already being implemented in health and human performance classes, and students are being trained in the use of the technology to both guide and track health progress and goals. College community members have taken advantage of the new equipment, as well, with many members of the faculty and staff participating in personalized screenings. "For the past year and a half, we have partnered with Granite Fitness to offer Rocky employees special access to Granite's Biggest Loser 20-Pound Challenge," said Kelly Edwards, vice president for institutional advancement. "This technology is allowing each participant to privately track their individual progress in conjunction with the fitness program, seeing visual representations of how their health is improving as they eat better and excercise more effectively. More importantly, health and human performance faculty are on-hand to provide meaningful insight and guidance." OPPORTUNITIES According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, occupations and industries related to healthcare are projected to grow more than any other field in the next decade. Total employment is projected to increase 19 percent between 2014 to 2024, "much faster than the average for

Dr. Nich Pertuit Title: Associate Professor Department: Health & Human Performance Joined RMC Faculty: Fall 2015 On choosing RMC... The mission and core themes of Rocky speak to me and align with my goals as an educator. I am constantly looking for ways to "cultivate critical thinking, creative expression, ethical decision-making, informed citizenship, and professional excellence," and I am proud to be a part of an institution and community that prioritizes these outcomes. I have autonomy at Rocky to work with students on projects that I am also passionate about, and I love that we put teaching first here. I get excited every day to come to work because I know the meaningful impact that we are making not only in the lives of our own students, but also the community of Billings. My wife and I both grew up in Billings. This place is home. On his teaching philosophy... Our students are the most important part of the institution. Everything I do as a teacher is fueled by what can be done to help our students learn more, expand their perspectives to increase critical thinking, equip them with problem-solving tools that can be applied in any domain, help them to understand how to regain an internal focus of control over as much of their life as possible, and to help them achieve their goals in their current and future vocations. all other occupations, adding about 2.3 million new jobs. This growth is expected due to an aging population and because federal health insurance reform should increase the number of individuals who have access to health insurance." "Over the next three years, we aim to be able to place 100 percent of our students into HHP careers or graduate programs within their first year following graduation, said Pertuit. “The lab is already providing a wide variety of new opportunities for all members of the Rocky Mountain College and Billings communities. For students at RMC, this means expanded opportunities in undergraduate research, more comprehensive data collection and analysis, and handson experience with state-of-the-art technology will provide a leg up in an increasingly competitive professional market. "The lab equipment provides me with unique experiences and insights that strengthen my understanding of things I learn in the classroom," said HHP student Will Peppard (Class of 2018). "This sets me apart as I prepare for a future in strength and conditioning." Faculty will also enjoy the increase in academic research opportunities, as well as a significant improvement in ways to implement interactive methodologies to lesson plans. The innovative lab, when fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, will significantly expand affordable health services and wellness programming for those on and off campus, while also providing unique educational and career opportunities for our students. It will also enhance athletic achievement through new and innovative performance testing for sport and body specific physiological characteristics.

Faculty Spotlight Dr. Julie Beicken Eager to Develop Sociology at RMC G&G: What are some of the challenges and opportunities you have experienced while teaching sociology at a small liberal arts college in Montana?

G&G: What brought you to RMC? Julie Beicken: Because of my wonderful experience at a liberal arts college as an undergraduate, I went to graduate school with the intention of teaching at a small liberal arts college when I finished. When I started to read about Rocky, I was very impressed with its dedication to the liberal arts as well as its unique aviation and equestrian programs. Rocky offers its faculty and students small class sizes, close relationships between students and professors, and the fostering of a true intellectual community. All of these are things I value immensely, and I have been very privileged to join the Rocky family. Also, my husband and I love the outdoors and were very excited to move to Montana. 18 Rocky Mountain College

JB: The students at Rocky are overwhelmingly kind and it is a pleasure to work with them in the classroom. It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to teach small classes where you get to know each student well and understand the complexity of their perspectives. This enriches me as a teacher because I can tailor my courses to fit the particular needs and interests of the students in front of me. In my larger core classes, I get to interact with students from all over campus, and this provides me with insight into Rocky’s other programs and the wide range of experiences students bring to the table. Another wonderful opportunity at Rocky is that I get to teach an array of classes so I can really explore sociology as a discipline, as opposed to teaching the same two or three classes over and over again. I am very pleased when non-sociology majors take a second or third class with me because they have developed an interest in the material. Any teacher will tell you that it is an immensely difficult job. Many of the challenges I face should be familiar to anyone who has taught—designing appropriate assignments that push

the students to think critically and creatively, developing activities for the classroom that enhance understanding of the material and keep the students’ attention, creating a space that is open to all viewpoints and ideas, and motivating the students to ask difficult questions. I have had to learn how to teach sociological material differently to students who are largely from rural communities in this region of the country. For example, one of my students at Rocky had 81 students in her whole high school, compared to the 800 in my graduating class alone. Sociologically, this means sometimes shifting the examples I give in class. G&G: Can you briefly share some information about the work you have been doing on the Crow Reservation? JB: Professor Cristi Hunnes designed a substance abuse prevention program at a middle school on the Crow Reservation a few years ago. I was asked to take over the program this past summer. I have continued the project that Dr. Hunnes began—a group of four RMC students and I collaborate with faculty and students at Little Big Horn College to work with middle school youth in Pryor. We do a voluntary after school substance abuse prevention program about once or twice a month. The program incorporates Crow culture, history, and

faces in the crowd

Traditions

tradition—spearheaded by Little Big Horn College—into an intervention designed to promote mental and physical health and deter substance use. The RMC students take a yearlong class with me where we read about Crow culture, historical trauma, and the empirical research on substance abuse prevention projects with American Indian youth, and they assist in designing the activities we do with the middle school youth. Additionally, the project seeks to measure the efficacy of our program. We are hopeful the project will continue as it benefits the RMC students to learn about the tribe of this region and the middle school youth—some of whom we hope will one day attend Rocky. G&G: Which of your classes have you found the most rewarding? JB: My upper division courses are always very fulfilling because I get to work closely with students I know well and dive deeply into sociological material I find very compelling. But Introduction to Sociology has been my most rewarding class. I really enjoy getting to know a diverse group of students on campus and it is a true pleasure to see them begin to think like sociologists. Even at 8:00 a.m., I have had some of the most delightful interactions, interesting discussions, and formative teaching experiences since I’ve been at Rocky. I always look forward to that class.

G&G: What are your goals for sociology studies at Rocky? JB: I’ve been developing a program that teaches students to make connections between their own experiences and larger historical and social trends. I see sociology as a central discipline of the liberal arts, helping students to think critically about the world around them. I’ve also developed a wide range of courses—from "Sociology of Sport" to "Punishment and Society"—to prepare majors for whatever aspect of sociology they might pursue after graduation and to have an array of electives for interested non-majors to choose from. I want sociology students to leave prepared to apply sociological principles connecting the individual to larger social forces to their everyday lives.

G&G: What is your favorite thing about working at RMC? JB: My ability to create close and lasting relationships with the students. Because of Rocky’s small class sizes, I really get to know each of my students well, and can cater my courses to their interests and to help them grow individually as scholars. It’s a very rewarding experience and I’m thrilled to be a part of the RMC community.

YWiB Leads Proactive Approach to Campus Safety Early during her presentation in the Fortin Education Center on January 17, Carla Verbsky asked the 200 women present to define self defense. The group was gathered in the Fortin Education Center gymnasium for the first G.R.E.A.T. Self Defense workshop for women to be held on the Rocky Mountain College campus, an effort spearheaded by the student organization Young Women in Business (YWiB). "The instinct is to think that self defense is about fighting or physicality," said YWiB President Shadya Jarecke (Class of 2017). "Carla did an excellent job of helping these women to understand that protecting themselves can be equally achieved through words and body language." Violence on college campuses— particularly sexual violence—is a national concern. A 2015 report from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center stated that one in 20 Rocky Mountain College

five women in the U.S. experience sexual assault while in college. In 2014, to combat the prevalence of sexual assault in college communities, the White House launched the It's On Us campaign with the specific task of improving campus cultures through a focus on prevention. The self defense class attracted students, faculty, staff, and other community members alike. Jarecke estimates that approximately seven-eighths of the participants were members of the Rocky community, highlighting the College's interest to address campus safety concerns proactively. "Shadya has a heart for young women, which aligns with Carla's," RMC Campus Safety Coordinator Amberly Tanzosh said. "The desire was for women to learn at least one effective technique that could save their lives, and for women to support one another, be on the same team,

and put aside what can be common petty behaviors." The evening began with presentations from YWiB, Verbsky, and Kori Keller of the Ramsey Keller Memorial. The discussion focused on how women can empower themselves and each other through a number of self defense techniques. "G.R.E.A.T. Self Defense is the platform I created so that I can share knowledge and life experiences with others, honestly and openly," Verbsky said prior to the class. "Through self defense, I teach character skills such as integrity, self control, respect, humility, compassion, discipline, and perseverance." "They come here thinking that they need a black belt, to be able to kick and punch. Then they leave with a smile on their faces and feeling like they have all the power in the world." Beyond the short physical lessons, Verbsky emphasized methods by which situations that make women

more vulnerable can be avoided. The martial arts instruction provided women with the skills to protect themselves when necessary. "I appreciated the way Carla taught the class," Tanzosh added. "She emphasized how self defense starts with doing everything you can to not put yourself into situations that would call for a physical response, such as being aware of your surroundings instead of having your eyes glued to your cell phone and using words to talk down a situation, rather than looking for a fight." The evening closed with refreshments and networking. Jarecke has been pleased with the results of the self defense class. "Since the event, many women who I had never met otherwise—which is surprising on such a small campus—were approaching me to share their appreciation for the class," she said. "It makes me feel good to know that this has impacted so many women at Rocky." With the success of the first session, YWiB and Verbsky are enthusiastic about holding a second self defense class at RMC this spring, but no details have been finalized. "We’d like to dedicate more time to focusing on the physical aspects of self defense and training," Jarecke added. "The goal is to continue from where the first class left off." The G.R.E.A.T. Self Defense class at Rocky Mountain College was co-sponsored by Stand Up RMC and RMC Campus Safety. The Young Women in Business club is open to all Rocky students and gathers monthly.

City of Billings, RMC Host NAIA National Tournament The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on September 7, 2016, that Rocky Mountain College and the City of Billings will serve as hosts to the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championships for at least 2017 and 2018. This is the twelfth national championship held by the NAIA in the state of Montana and the first since Great Falls hosted the NAIA Wrestling National Championships in 2004. The last major NAIA event hosted in Billings was the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, which were held in the Magic City from 1968 to 1972. Teams from Rocky Mountain College and Visit Billings, including Billings Mayor Tom Hanel, welcomed representatives from the NAIA for a short visit to the city in mid-August. Jamie Adams, NAIA Associate Director of Championship Events, said of the visit: "From the start, it was the energy [RMC and Visit Billings]...the energy the community as a whole brought. All the aspects were showcased." A few weeks later, the tournament was awarded, relocating the event from its previous home in Independence, Missouri. "We are excited about our Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship finding a home in the great northwest," said NAIA 22 Rocky Mountain College

President and CEO Jim Carr. "We are confident that Visit Billings and Rocky Mountain College will deliver on a first-class event that will be an outstanding experience for our student-athletes, coaches, and fans." The 32-team, single-elimination contest will be held at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark between March 17-21 and will feature some of the nation’s top athletic programs. "We are thrilled to be named the host community for the 2017 and 2018 Women's Basketball National Championships," said Visit Billings Executive Director Alex Tyson. "While the economic impact and privilege to host the NAIA for this

event is appreciated as a city, being able to offer this caliber of play to Billings and regional residents will be an even greater opportunity as a community." As the host institution, Rocky Mountain College receives automatic placement in the tournament, which will be the first time that the Battlin’ Bears Women’s Basketball program will be competing for the national title under the guidance of Head Coach Wes Keller (pictured above). Keller is no stranger to the national stage, however, having served as assistant to Men's Basketball Head Coach Bill Dreikosen when the Battlin' Bears ran the table at the

2009 NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri. "We advanced to the national tournament three times while I was coaching in the Men's Basketball program," Keller said. "You have to get beyond the parade—that first round game. Once you get through the parade, anything can happen. You need to take it one game at a time and just enjoy each moment." "This is a great opportunity for Treasure State to show its support for women's basketball," Keller added. "We are excited to be competing with the best teams in the country." Leading the Battlin' Bears into the national tournament will be seniors Brandy Kumm (Class of 2017) and Jayde LeFevre (Class of 2017), as well as top scoring juniors Keisha Engelhardt (Class of 2018, 12.4 PPG, 6.3 REB) and Hailee Farstveet (Class of 2018, 10.1 PPG, 3.5 REB). Unfortunately, the team will enter the tournament without point guard Mikayla Jones (Class of 2018, pictured left, 13.5 PPG, 2.8 steals), who injured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a 60-58 win at University of MontanaNorthern on January 13 and was sidelined for the remainder of the season. The highlight of the 2016-2017 season was a strong November, during which the Battlin' Bears went 6-2, including a season-best, six-game win streak between November 5-25. "Rocky and Visit Billings put a lot of time and effort into bringing a championship event of this size to Montana," said RMC Athletic Director Bruce Parker. "Hosting and competing in the national tournament will be a great opportunity and a great challenge for the Battlin’ Bears. We are looking forward to it."

Benson Koech Claims First X-C All-American Honor On a windy day this past November, on the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill., Benson Koech (Class of 2019, pictured above) made Rocky Mountain College history. His ninth place finish at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships made Koech the first Battlin' Bears runner to earn NAIA All-American honors in the sport. "A lot of our runners don't know how fast they are until they compete on a lower-altitude course," RMC Cross Country/Track & Field Head Coach Mike McLean said before the team left for Illinois. "It's a great experience, especially for the two freshmen who get a chance to compete at the highest level so early in their careers." Koech completed the 8-kilometer course in 24:51. The Battlin' Bears sent two runners from the women's cross country team to compete in the National Championship race. Senior Mackenzie O'Dore (Class of 2017) placed 121st

with a time of 18:51 on the 5-kilometer course, while freshman Courtney Hallock (Class of 2020) placed 221st with a time of 19:41. "He ran extremely smart," Coach Mike McClean said. "I was not surprised by his placement at nationals. He was in the thick of it with the top runners in the country for the whole race." In his short time at Rocky Mountain College, Koech has already earned All-American honors twice, achieving the feat as a member of the distance medley relay team that captured fifth place at the NAIA National Outdoor Track Championships last spring. Also competing as members of the All-American distance medley squad were Gino Giovagnoli (Class of 2018), Brenden Leaming (Class of 2019), and Fred Petsch (Class of 2017). "He has tremendous, untapped potential," McLean added. "The natural talent is definitely there."

In addition to his All-American performance, Koech earned Frontier Conference Athlete of the Week recognition four times during the fall cross country season. Koech emigrated from Bomet, Kenya, and began his studies at RMC in January of 2015. His major is currently undecided, but Koech has taken an interest in biology. "I had been looking for colleges on the internet when I came across Rocky Mountain College," Koech said. "Coach Mike offered me a scholarship to run, and I was very impressed with the College." When asked what he likes most about attending Rocky, Koech said, "I really like Rocky's community in general. They are amazing people...My teammates have become my brothers and sisters, and my coaches and professors have played an integral part in helping me. I really appreciate them." Green & Gold 25

Campus Life RMC Focuses on Military Friendly Efforts A plaque, affixed to a large stone, sits just outside the entrace to the Bair Family Student Center. It is a commemorative item, recognizing one of Theodore Roosevelt's last collegiate addresses, which took place on the campus of Billings Polytechnic Institute—now the home of Rocky Mountain College—on October 5, 1918. During that address, he said, "This is the kind of school that builds character and trains for the highest type of leadership." Roosevelt is also known for saying that "a man who is good enough to shed his blood for his country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards." Recently identified as a "Military Friendly Campus," Rocky Mountain College has taken this recognition as a challenge to truly honor those who have served in the armed forces, as well as to provide better services for those seeking to further their education. Led by Jill Washburn (pictured right), a collaboration between the Office of Veteran Resources and the Student Veterans Club has led to identifying key initiatives, intentional programming, and steps to highlight and improve the veteran and student service member experience on campus. "RMC is sensitive to the unique needs of students that have served in the military, and we are committed to providing academic, social, and financial assistance whenever needed," said Vice President and Dean of Student 26 Rocky Mountain College

Life Brad Nason. "The College is dedicated to supporting and honoring our veterans and their families and we are grateful for their service to country." Utilizing a questionnaire from the Military Friendly Campus guidance, the group has been evaluating the answers currently provided by the College, while also starting to prioritize areas of improvement and clarity for the entire institution. "The ultimate goal for this exercise is to educate our current student veterans about what it means to be labeled as military friendly so that they can, in turn, educate others throughout the College community," said Washburn. One of the most significant im-

provements in military friendliness on campus was the establishment of the Student Veterans Club in 2015 This student-driven group has positioned itself as the front line for many of the initiatives designed to support veterans as they pursue higher education. The veterans in this club help with prospective student veterans or service members with the application and orientation process and often guide prospective students through the benefits available to them. Additionally, current veteran students mentor incoming veterans and service members through their first semester and provide academic peer advising when necessary.

The club serves as an advocate to the College in the interest of veterans and service members, and the group's members also function as experts on local, regional, and national programs and resources available to veterans and their families. The Student Veterans Club and Office of Veteran Resources are also working with the Office of Admissions to better communicate with veterans and active service members about the benefits of education at Rocky Mountain College, as well as the resources that are available to them as a result of their military service. "Recognizing the commitment and service of our veterans, active duty, and ROTC students to our country and our campus is at the heart of our mission as an institution," said RMC’s Dean of Enrollment Services Austin Mapston. With a more comprehensive approach to the overall college experience, the Office of Veteran Resources intends to better serve both retired and active service members from admission through graduation. During his speech as a President's Cup recipient at the 2016 Commencement ceremony, Larry Whitaker (Class of 2017, pictured top-right) said: "As a prospective student in the summer of 2013, I first met with business professor James Smith who answered my inquiries about the college, invited me to attend one of his classes, and encouraged me to submit an application for enrollment. Afterwards, I felt a greater sense of security in making a transition into Rocky Mountain College as a full-time student and discovered that professors here exemplified this institution’s expert knowledge and concern for student growth." "Hence, my success here at Rocky and very presence upon this platform is directly attributed to the faculty, staff, administrators, and fellow students who helped me throughout the administrative and collegiate process." In the photo, Whitaker displays the Navy Veteran stole he had received the prior April. Each year, graduating Green & Gold 27

I wanted to pursue a piloting education, get back into flying. RMC also accepts Yellow Ribbon benefits. Biggest fear returning to college? Fear. Fear of failure, not knowing how to transition from 14 years in the military to civilian life. What has contributed to your success at Rocky? The Aviation faculty are awesome instructors, and, due to their own military experience, they understood my fears and challenges. They have made the transition that much easier with advice, guidance, and expertise. Jill Washburn also helped with sponsoring events that encourage veterans to connect with other student veterans to promote camaraderie and acceptance. I also have to acknowledge that my success would not be possible without the support of my family. Advice for RMC student veterans? It’s going to be hard, but don’t give up. Only 13% of veterans who go back to college graduate; 87% give up. Don’t be prideful—use college resources. Use your money wisely! veterans and active military service members are presented with a stole bearing their military affiliation that they proudly wear during Commencement. The 2017 Military Honor Stole Ceremony is schedule for April 20 in Prescott Hall. While there are approximately forty veterans and active military members currently attending Rocky, one program in which they are most prevalent is in aeronautical science. "Our veterans bring discipline and leadership skills to their flight training that make them better pilots and makes our program better," said RMC Director of Aviation Dan Hargrove, a 21-year veteran and retired Air Force officer. "Most of the Aviation program staff and faculty are veterans, so I think we do a great job meeting their unique needs. They are very valued in our program." Perhaps the most visible demonstration of increased support for those who have served can be found in Battlin' Bears athletics. Through an effort coordinated by the Office of Veteran Resources, members of Warrior Wishes Montana present the colors at all Battlin' Bears home athletic competitions. Warrior Wishes Montana is a nonprofit founded and operated by veterans that is dedicated to providing support to veterans who are experiencing financial hardship, incarceration, recovering from a disaster, or pursuing higher education. Additionally, Rocky became the first college or university in Montana to dedicate a POW/MIA stadium seat at a ceremony during the Military Appreciation football game against University of Montana-Western on November 12 (pictured page 27 bottom). A similar ceremony was held during the basketball double-header against Montana State University-Northern on February 2. The chairs at Herb Klindt Field and in the Fortin Education Center, which bear the POW/MIA crest insignia, recognize the incredible cost paid by those who gave their all to preserve the freedoms we enjoy, those who fought and died for our country. Each will remain unoccupied to symbolize that there will always be a place for those who are still prisoners of war or missing in action. "Here at the College, we hold those who are actively serving and veterans in the highest regard," said Washburn. "This is just one small way we can show how much we respect them."

Spiritual Life Woeste Emphasizes Service Learning in Spiritual Life The Lillis Chapel and Office of Spiritual Life may be tucked into the southeast corner downstairs in the Bair Family Student Center, but the effects of the work that RMC Chaplain Kim Woeste (pictured right) has been doing there reach widely across campus. "Chaplain Woeste is deeply committed to our students and the College's heritage," RMC President Robert Wilmouth said. "She has worked tirelessly to reinvigorate our relationships with the church community, strengthen ties to our founding churches, and educate hundreds of students through faith-based programming." THE CHURCH TRADITION The story outlining Rocky Mountain College's church traditions is not straightforward. It begins with people of faith who sought to provide a quality education on the western frontier and it extends over the next 139 years through numerous locations, predecessor institutions, and transitions—all of which contributed to making the College what it is today: a premier liberal arts institution with ties to the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church, and the United Church of Christ. The early influence of the three religious denominations has resulted in a learning community distinguished by thoughtful inquiry, ethical decision-making, active citizenship and a focus on the development of the whole person. 30 Rocky Mountain College

In the 1870s, as people of faith moved into the western frontier, they established churches, hospitals, orphanages, and schools of higher learning because they valued the pursuit of knowledge and service to society. The founders of the College recognized no separation between a belief in God and a belief that all people deserve access to education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid. "Ultimately, the founders of those first institutions were putting their faith into action," said Chaplain Woeste. "I try to challenge students in that same spirit, asking them 'Because of what you believe, what do you value? What will you do?'"

In October, Rocky Mountain College underwent an accreditation process with the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. This was an opportunity for the Church to review the College's institutional integrity and church-relatedness. It also provided an opportunity for the College to affirm relationships with the related denominations. The review committee recommended the continued listing of Rocky Mountain College as a United Methodist-related institution without qualification. "A true liberal arts education should always include thinking about what it means to live a meaningful life," said RMC President Robert Wilmouth.

"Faith-based service initiatives remain a model for the rest of the College as we seek to expand our role in the community and continue our emphasis on responsible leadership. By learning how religious traditions have filtered into different cultures, our students open new horizons for themselves and become more informed and engaged members of their communities. Our students will appreciate difference, encourage dialogue and inspire others." Rocky Mountain College celebrates its religious heritage through a variety of traditional events during the year, such as the Yule Log Dinner in November, Lessons and Carols in December, Candlelight Dinner in February, and Baccalaureate during Commencement Weekend. The Yule Log Dinner and Lessons and Carols events bring all members of the Rocky community together for holiday festivities, showcasing the many talents of the College’s students, faculty, and staff. Candlelight Dinner, now in its 108th year, honors the first students of Billings Polytechnic Institute, who ate their first meal by candlelight on what is is now the RMC campus. Baccalaureate is a service of worship that honors a graduating class. The event celebrates learning and typically includes a farewell sermon delivered to graduates, as well as readings, prayers, hymns, and special music. "Traditions remind us of who we are and where we come from," Chaplain Woeste said. "By engaging our students with Rocky Mountain College’s religious history, we are remembering, reinterpreting, and applying those traditions to our goals and beliefs as individuals within a liberal arts environment today." LEARNING THROUGH SERVICE Faith-based service is at the heart of the College's third core theme—Shared Responsibility and Stewardship—and guides campus-wide initiatives to educate the whole person. "These initiatives remain a model for the rest of the College as we seek to expand our role in the community and continue our emphasis on responsible Green & Gold 31

Kim Woeste Title: Chaplain Joined RMC Staff: August 2012 On short-term goals for RMC spiritual life... I want to create opportunities for students to think about what they believe, to put faith into action, and to experience a supportive community. On long-term goals... I am striving to expand the scope of Spiritual Life programming so that it is understood in broader terms. When I think about what I do, I’m addressing needs that are spiritual. I am encouraging students to ask big questions, to care about others, to seek well-being, to be engaged with making a difference in the community, and to learn about different cultures and faith traditions. My goals are focused beyond the religious—I want students to understand growing spiritually in that broadest sense. On the relationship between faith-based service and RMC's liberal arts education... When students volunteer in the community, they are exposed to new ideas. They are encouraged to respect persons from diverse backgrounds. They are challenged to consider how their beliefs inform their actions. On upcoming projects... We’ve started preparing for the May Service Trip to Salt Lake City, where students will volunteer with the United Methodist Committee on Relief, making health kits for disaster relief, and working at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. We’ll be connecting with a few other agencies in Salt Lake City as well. 32 Rocky Mountain College

leadership," said Provost and Academic Vice President Stephen Germic. Several projects coordinated by the Office of Spiritual Life are designed to raise awareness about the problems of hunger and homelessness and to encourage learning about the larger social issues underlying these problems. For example, each week students make around 70 sandwiches that are donated to the HUB Drop-In Center for persons facing chronic mental illness and homelessness. This is an easy way to engage students with making a difference, since the effort is as simple as making a few sandwiches when walking through the Bair Family Student Center. Posters with statistics provide students with insight into local homelessness issues, and students often participate in visiting the HUB to interact directly with Billings' homeless population. This semester students have also been working with Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley, assisting hosts who provide dinner for families in the program. The experience gives homelessness a name and a face. This impactful program also gives students the opportunity to discuss expectations of their service experience beforehand and to reflect on it in a debriefing session afterward. In September, several students assisted with an ongoing project to renovate and revitalize the outdoor chapel (pictured page 31, bottom), located to the north of the Student Center. Volunteers dismantled the old benches and installed weather-resistant ones in their place. They also dug up and repositioned memorial markers and cleaned the area around the stone altar. Future plans for the space are to make it more versatile with the addition of landscaping and masonry. Last May, ten students travelled to Salt Lake City, Utah, for a week of service with several agencies, including the Depot—a disaster relief storage warehouse run by the United Methodist Committee on Relief—and the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This year’s trip will also include Family Promise of Salt Lake. While at the UMCOR Depot, students assembled health kits and learned about disaster relief efforts. At the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, volunteers unloaded donations, cleaned, and sorted inventory. They also interacted with families and were challenged to consider the realities of poverty housing. "I really liked the mission of UMCOR," said Giselle Bright (Class of 2018, pictured page 31, top). "If there's an emergency and somebody needs help, they’re able to provide the correct tools. You don’t need to have the biggest project in the world to make a difference. Small things add up." Chaplain Woeste will be leading a group of students to Salt Lake again this May, working with the UMCOR Depot, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and Family Promise of Salt Lake.

Rocky Mountain College is experiencing institutional growth like never before. Renovations to the stadium are already impacting the range and depth of our athletic programming; the new science facilities will greatly improve what we oer academically; and the recently installed piano lab reinforces our dedication to the arts. Along with a commitment to expand scholarship opportunities, this growth will directly result in RMC being recognized as a premiere destination for the highest caliber of students, faculty, and sta. — President Robert Wilmouth

Alumni Relations

Rocky Welcomes New Director of Alumni Relations Sarah Clark hit the ground running when she assumed the role of director of alumni relations for Rocky Mountain College on February 20. "My first week was a bit of a whirlwind," Clark said. "In only a few days, I had met with a dozen departments. It's been a rapid-fire, informative crash course in how alumni can be involved with all aspects of the College." "Everybody has been so helpful. The entire institution is dedicated to making alumni programming stronger, and I'm excited to be a part of it." Though she grew up in Billings, Clark's education began in Wyoming, where she attended Northwest College and studied photography. She then returned home to continue her education at Montana State University-Billings, earning a bachelor of applied sciences in history and communications. 60 Rocky Mountain College

Clark comes to RMC from Western Wyoming Community College, where she first served as an admissions counselor and later as a student success advisor, specializing in career employment and internships. She has a combined eight years of experience in higher education and has spent the better part of it helping students beyond their years in college. "We often measure student success by how well our students do after they graduate," Clark said. "I've always focused on ways that students can build lasting professional relationships through networking. This position is a great chance for me to continue that work and develop better opportunities for our current and former students." Strengthening the bond between alumni and the institution is Clark's top priority. "Our students and our alumni have a lot of pride in Rocky Mountain College and its traditions," Clark said. "I am very intrigued

by Rocky's role in the history of education in Montana." Alumni Relations has a number of upcoming events for which Clark will be at the helm, beginning with the 2017 Alumni Association Champagne Toast and Commencement ceremonies this May. She will also coordinate the annual alumni and friends golf tournament later this spring and the Homecoming and Alumni Weekend scheduled for September. Clark has already made a strong impression at the College. "I am thrilled to have Sarah join our team," said Kelly Edwards, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. "Her passion for education and building relationships, along with her spirit of warm hospitality, will be a welcome addition to the RMC family." The Alumni Relations office is located on the second floor of Eaton Hall.

"Whether it’s working out, eating right, or just life in general,

don’t let PERFECT be the enemy of the GOOD Aim for good, take the first step, and you’ll be one step closer to perfect than you were before you started."
