Historic opener at Daniel Webster; the Anchormen participate in pioneer effort for wrestling in Merrimack Valley Nashua, N.H.- It was a historic night on November 12 for wrestling in Southern New Hampshire as Daniel Webster College opened its gymnasium doors for the first time for a wrestling match. Rhode Island College won the match, but it was more about the growth of wrestling in the region. Chris Gilmore, Director of Athletics at Daniel Webster said this, “It was a success for us on many levels and we had a packed house. I wanted you to know that your coaching staff and team were very accommodating to the situation and were exceptional in every way. Your student athletes performed at the highest level and were perfect gentlemen and sportsmen in every sense of the words. I don’t believe we could have gotten a better bunch of guys to be here for this match. They are to be commended.” It’s hard to look for a better compliment from an administrator today. Junior 141 lbs. Ricondo Cole was one of five Rhode Island College wrestlers to pick up a win via a pin and Head Coach Jay Jones picked up his 200th career victory as the Anchormen opened the 2014-15 season with a 50-4 win over Daniel Webster College on Wednesday evening.
