HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES FROM THE ANCHORMEN WRESTLING FAMILY!

Anchormen prove to be competitive as four place at Springfield’s Doug Parker; Rhode Island finishes 6th of 17 teams

(Left to right) John Georges placed 5th and is ranked 5th in New England as well, Victo Zabaulu placed for 2nd straight year, Shawn Giblin in now the #1 ranked wrestler in New England at 141, and Brandon Conrad reached his second straight finals. Conrad is ranked 3rd in New England. Both Giblin, Conrad, and Jonathan Costa (not shown) are among those nationally ranked on d3wrestle.com.

The Rhode Island College wrestlers showed they can compete despite being held back in the rankings early on. The Anchormen placed 4 at the Doug Parker earning 6th of 17 teams. RIC was ranked 10th and 9th in consecutive weeks, but proved that those rankings don’t matter when you go toe to toe. Brandon Conrad prooved that his off season dedication is paying dividends by reaching his second straight tournament final at 184. He won three straight including a pin. Shawn Giblin was disqualified for an illegal slam in his first match at 141, but bounced all the way back by winning 5 straight matches to finish

Conrad and Giblin led the way in points.

third gaining 3 sets of pin points along the way. Victor Zabalu also placed at 184. This is the second year in a row that Zabalu placed at the Doug Parker. John Georges placed in his second straight tournament at two separate weights. The junior is still getting a feel for either 197 and 285, specifically feeling out which is best both individually and as a team. Two noteable Anchormen, who were all-Region in 2015, did not place at the Parker. Both Jonathan Costa (149), who injury defaulted prior to placiing, and Mike Murphy (157), who is just getting back on board, will prove to be point scorers and help the team down the road

Georges and Zabalu helping to strenghten upper weights by earning place points. Brennen Liebel and Chris Kelly also earned some key wins in the tournament, but were just shy of placing.

Save the date for the ALUMNI/LEGENDS DAY on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12 at RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE for a tri at NOON w So. Maine and Plymouth!!
